Your chance of getting a skin or tonic for halloween was extremely low. You should just go ahead and open them if that is your plan. At worst you could sell the skin.
As for the new chests… I just posted about my concerns for another method of gambling for skins again.
So I noticed a chest in the event page next to the BLTC stuff. Does this mean we can expect a similar time as with halloween with chests dropping rare skins that cannot be obtained otherwise? Will the drop rate be so abysmal that players need to open a huge number with a slim chance of getting one?
The way minis were handled for halloween was great however and I enjoyed that. But I am wary as I like skins but am not anxious to be tempted to try to get them only to waste my money.
Staff also has a projectile and blast combo finisher. Apart from minion bomb, our only combo finishers. I often go staff#3 → #4 just for the area weakness/extra damage when conditions aren’t a problem. Combine that with Light/Dark wells for different effects.
The amount of work Arenanet put into the event and everything added was amazing. I sincerely hope the clocktower becomes a yearly staple for people to try their luck against every halloween. The theme and the events were wonderful with a very cool backpack reward.
The level adjustment system allowing any level to enjoy it was very well done and satisfying. I really can’t think of anything but praise for the event.
The rewards on the other hand needed some adjustment. In particular all the weapon skins. Those available in game permanently are prohibitively expensive (100 lodestones? 40 elonian wines?), to then have them randomly drop from the chest at the dungeon (dungeon was amazingly fun btw) was disappointing. I would have very much liked to get one, but the RNG wasn’t in my favor and they are incredibly expensive to forge. Maybe eventually, but it felt like the already rich players could do it with ease, and a few rare lucky folks but most people were left dry in the water.
The black lion chests also severely needed to be done in a manner that rewarded people for money spent. Consider people who spent real money on them (myself) and got absolutely nothing. (also myself). It just left a very bad taste that did dampen my enthusiasm for the event (still had fun), but the skins shouldn’t be so rare that they do not drop at least once for somebody who spends $40 on keys.
I hope you guys take note of the areas that people were very dissatisfied with, but otherwise this event set a standard for amazing holiday events that other games should follow. Had a blast.
Wow you have completely described my two problems with the gem store. Apart from costumes needing their own storage, only the black lion chests feel bad. And you nailed the two problems I had with them. I am a bit of a problematic gambler, and spent $60 primarily on keys from chests during this holiday. I have a deathly pauldron to show for it (an item that is currently worth about 300 gems or so in gold). The pauldron is heavy armor, of which none of my characters can wear.
I got absolutely nothing of value out of the black lion chests and it severely dampened my enthusiasm for the game. They are a neat idea, but the reward for opening a chest needs to have the value of somebody who spent actual money on it.
Oh and now I have 15 or so harvesting tools all soulbound to my character that I have to hold onto until I find a good use for them.
Will we be getting some form of town clothes storage?
Some method similar to GW1 is gonna be necessary if there are free hats given out during holidays along with purchasable costumes as well. In the long term these are going to crowd peoples banks and they might get deleted to make space. These items are very cool but without providing a benefit (note I am not asking for a benefit to them, I don’t want one) they take up inventory space. I seriously hope Arenanet looks into implementing a method of storage for them. (perhaps along the lines of the mini storage if its not like the gw1 method) Note that the Gw1 method is vastly preferable for someone with many alts like myself especially in regards to a costume I paid ~$8 for. Is there any word of something like this coming soon?
On another note, if town clothing (the basic clothes) are deleted, is there a way to reacquire them? or must I hold onto mine if I decide I don’t always want my character to be the mad king.
@Mike,
That is just to get the recipe for the gift right? So if I get all the recipes I can make the weapons once I can get all the regular components correct. As only the mystic forge recipe creation uses halloween stuff.
Does anyone know if I save up candy corn and the rare pieces I will be able to make the “gift of …” recipes from the mystic forge even after the event is over? I would really like to eventually get the skins, but it requires a very large amount of expensive resources I do not have yet. If I save up can I get it later as long as I get the required pieces now?
It’s alright, somewhat similar to summon balthazars hounds. Honestly though I wouldn’t say its entirely worth it. I got it only because I got the entire collector’s edition.
I would say carrion because of the vitality as a minor stat. Rampager isn’t giving you any survivability.
Thanks for this response Anthony. Although I disagree with what this guy is saying, I am concerned about the population levels in other zones below 80 which have severely declined I have noticed.
Perhaps upping the proportion of level appropriate loot. As well as making travelling around the map cheaper perhaps to reduce the cost of travelling to lower level area.
This always struck me as very odd to see this, which made a ton of sense to get karma for telling people to get to safety, but yet nowhere else in the game can you get small amounts of karma for helping people. Isn’t that what karma is?
So while on my human thief a day ago I was going through the personal story lvl 26 quest. At the end of it you talk to the 3 orders and decide which plan you want to use to save the queen/join. However in the middle of talking to the priory representative in order to learn more story behind each order I misclicked (since it takes you back to the original chat each time you finish a portion of the conversation) and accidentally joined the order since there isn’t a second confirmation portion.
This is my thief, the character I have put the most time into (since launch day) and I wanted him to be a part of the order of whispers for the armor and the awesomeness.
Why isn’t there a second confirmation (ie. ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO JOIN US?), a way to change my mind, or anything?
I really do not want to have to restart my character for this. Anyone else had this problem before?
Legendary weapons are only the skin. They have the same stats as the exotic weapon they are made out of.
However I agree with you blackgoat about them not being particularly interesting for a thief. Particularly compared to the absolutely spectacular greatswords.
“more Violets, less violence”
I love the sylvari theme but I swear I hear the same lines from them all the time.
And those of you who find heart vendors with cool recipes, should go update that there wiki!
You need to remember that the well is a utility skill. Those of you mentioning the greatsword seem to have forgotten that it is an elite. Compare elites perhaps, but don’t compare the greatsword to the well.
Green portals are involved in a different event chain in Queensdale (underworld). This swamp event chain is very likely on a timer. Every so often it begins to occur and a series of events (killing off lesser minions) proceeds until the worm fight.
A: the starting town clothes are fairly high class
B: Oh I am sure they will get to it. Its obviously something they intend to expand on as time passes.
