Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses. I’ve run sword before and I feel like while it does a fair amount of damage, it requires, well, melee range. On my Thief or Warrior, that’s not an issue, but I feel really squishy when I get in that close. Could just be a L2P issue.

In terms of lacking damage, perhaps in comparison to the other builds it does. It feels strong to me but it may just be that I haven’t been able to take full advantage of the shatter builds. I seem to have plenty of burst with GS 2 and 4, as well as with shattering my clones. Possibly that’s just my perception.

While scepter is certainly not a damage dealer, it does let me keep some pressure on with a bit of condi while moving to defense from range.

Guess I just need more practice.

So I’ve been trying to do some research to figure out what build to run. I’m new to the Mesmer class but not to GW2. Been playing on and off since release. Started with Thief, then Warrior, and now I’m trying a Mesmer since I’ve always found them annoying, and wanted to be on the other end for once.

I’ve read that PU got a nerf, and that all the veteran Mesmers out there think its a kitten made for noobs that don’t know the class etc… I admit I fall under that category. I am both new to the class, and lack a complete understanding of all the ins and outs of the class.

I don’t really queue for anything but sPvP, not team or solo tourney queue, and as a result I may be running into less seasoned players there but I’ve been pretty successful.

I’ve tried straight shatter builds, including the new meta. I’ve tried lock down builds. I’ve tried phantasmal builds. I keep coming back to the PU build. I’m just finding more survive-ability there.

I’m not sure if it comes from playing as a melee class exclusively before and I just need to work on positioning better. I’ve been trying to make sure to attack from afar and in inaccessible locations. But I just really like the stealth. Its far easier to disengage and heal up, and reenter the fight.

So my question is, is this build truly viable or should I just practice with a shatter build. While it seems to be working for me, are my choices just uninformed and misguided.

Healing Sig not working

Anyone else noticing that healing signet is not active upon entering a sPVP match? You have to actually use it and let the cd expire before the buff actually starts working.

It doesn’t happen to me every time, but close to it.

Am I the only one experiencing this or is it a known bug.

Situational attack is situational.

Five sentences was to long? Do you have any experience with Flanking strike. The point is not that it is situational, which all abilities are, but rather if any situation really warranted its int cost.

Question for sword/dagger thieves out there.

I get the whole stealth to daze is its go to mechanic. However, I’m wondering if you guys are using flanking strike at all, or just auto attacking.

The damage seems kinda so so and the side step doesn’t always hit. Paying attention to position helps me make sure I hit with it, but am I wasting int by hitting it two or three times after the daze? Should I just be auto attacking and saving it as a kind of dodge? Or should I just forget its on my bar?

Let me start out by saying that I’m awesome and I should never have to lose.

So I have an issue with auto balancing and I’m sure I’m not alone. It really sucks when you’ve been fighting hard with your team, and have a decent lead, a lead you helped create, and people on the other team start quitting. Then you get the whole volunteer and take my chances and all that non-sense and zap, now you’re on the other team.

This is really frustrating to me. I’m not all that inclined to want to fight an uphill battle against all the progress I just made on the other side.

Now, before we all get self righteous and say its random and therefore fair, I realize this is their attempt at fairness. However, by giving us a choice that really isn’t a choice, and then randomly throwing someone to the other team, I would argue that its not fair.

First of all, who is going to say, “OOH! PICK ME! I WANT TO GO OVER TO THE LOSING TEAM!!!” Not many. Sure there are some people who think this is a “challenge” and therefore fun, but in reality most people aren’t going to volunteer.

Secondly, why should the winning team be penalized by at best losing a crappy player and worst by losing one of their better players for the actions taken by the opposing team.

So here is my solution: I’m all for auto balancing if accomplished in a way that isn’t a penalization for actions taken by the opposing team. i.e. give them the player with the least amount of points.

There are two reasons I believe this is fair.

First, they are not that great, or aren’t trying as hard as the other players. Yes we all have bad games where we just don’t seem to score as many points, but if you are at the bottom and auto balancing comes up, expect to get traded. This may actually encourage some of those players to try harder so as not to be on the bottom.

Secondly, they joined late, and don’t have as much invested as the players that have been hard at work since the beginning of the match.

This random nonsense, while an attempt at fairness, is a poorly designed game mechanic that I personally would like to see changed.

So I know this wouldn’t quite fit the lore but it would be awesome if there were a V for Vendetta style medium armor. Then silly thieves like myself could run around in Guy Fawkes masks and feel good way down inside.

Actually stealth is working as intended. This game was built with the idea that you can dodge all attacks be it sword arrow or spell, they can all be dodged. Similarly if you are in their path you will get hit by said attack. Therefore, being stealthed doesn’t change your position in world space, nor does it transport you to some other dimension where you are invisible or some nonsense. You’re still there, just invisible. So if you stealth and they’re mid swing and you don’t dodge, expect to be hit. If there is a channeled spell in progress, same deal. The abilities run for their duration whether you stealth or not.

With over 50 items salvaged, between items from chests, crafting items to be salvaged, using tournament tokens in hopes of getting an arcane crystal… nothing. There’s bad luck and then there’s broken. As I said, I got these all the time prior to hitting deer, now they don’t exist for me…

I have been though at least 15 silver boxes, 10 copper ones and a gold one and have yet to get a single one of these. When I was at the rabbit rank, I seemed to get them pretty regularly. Now that I’m deer I haven’t seen one yet. I’ve read on the gw2 wiki that they should drop in higher rated from silver boxes and so I’ve been trying to focus on those.

I realize that they are only the second most common ingredient after the orbs which I have like 40 of, but it seems like they aren’t dropping at all. Anyone else running into this?

Stacking UV's and the thin red line

This is a very minor issue that in reality has no actual effect on the game. I realize there are more pressing issues at hand and by no means am I suggesting this should be priority #1.

However, in many of the clothing models, you can clearly see a thin red line running down the center of the back or front of the model. in other pieces you can also see red lines along the edges of the model as well. I’m guessing the background color you’ve chosen for your texture sheets is red and that color is bleeding through a UV edge. In most cases it seems as though its in the position where you’d have stacked UVs or where you have two shells meeting.

Again, its not a huge deal but it does kind of pull me out of my immersion. I’m a little surprised your art team didn’t spot this. Personally, I’d just change the background color to something more neutral like grey so it doesn’t look quite so obviously like a seam.
