Being upset about an optional game feature is like being upset that a buffet table is offering tofu, when you came there for chicken. Nobody’s forcing you to do anything.
The prospect of hundreds of Quaggan roleplayers running around trying to be cute with their cooing and fooing is enough to make me book a ticket to Orlando just so I can punch a dolphin at Sea World.
I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. That was great. I suppose a racial locked quote would be irritating however I still find the Asura’s arrogance to be far more irritating than a singular word.
Agreed, I just find it out of place and odd.
+1 from me.
Well…Charr and Norn look slow because they have to. Ya can’t really have them run as fast as they anatomically should…otherwise Norn and Charr would outpace everyone and Asura would be waaaaay behind. It’s done for game-play reasons: they wanted to provide size variety, just not movement variety.
Fastest real-life race? Charr paws down, 4 legs faster than 2 anyday.
Exactly, we all know that. But just make the stupid Norn smaller, oh and the Charr. Just make them smaller. I dont care about lore. Im done with ArenaNet having lore as their main line of defense for terrible gameplay mechanics.
I’d rather have a higher quality game than a mediocre quality piece of text and scripts of cutscenes.
Do you played that far zoomed out? I love seeing my characters detail. But anyway. Yeah I suppose that does look good. Im still sticking to my “Combat initiated = Activation” idea but I do like the idea a bit more seeing it visually.
Im on board for this idea. +1
My sexy Guard <3
That’s a very funny looking Asura you have there.
I like the idea however there is one issue. One big issue. Screen clutter. If a number pops everywhere I hold my cursor its going to get annoying.
Maybe if it only initiated or popped up when combat started than I think it would be a great idea. Most MMO’s don’t really bother with range so it would be a neat little unique feature about GW.
I really want a dueling system like this. +1 from me.
I want to be able to test my builds against friends builds and such.
Especially for the players who love making their character look great. I think a mini Charr would be especially awesome since they would run on all fours. A mini Asura would be VERY hard to see though…
Still a great idea however. I’d buy one.
The primevil pauldrons/shoulders look great on them. However not the helm due to their teeth and ears clipping through it.
They did make them smaller. In gw1 they were much taller. Closer to ogre height.
Aha, did not know that! Never played Guild Wars 1 :-) Good to know!
But again, it’s still the main reason for me why I don’t want to play as norn or charr. They are just awkwardly big.
I agree. The Norn especially are just stupidly big. I dont care if it suites the lore. It ruins the entire game for me. It made their animations horrible. They look terrible and they even sound stupid.
Humans are the only viable option. Every other race apart from Sylvari have HUGE clipping issues. I mean the Charr cant even hold a shield for god sake. Any shield at all.
This is about the worst thing I’ve seen on the suggestions section.
Please note the “(Discussion)” in the title. If you aren’t going to progress this conversation or add any personal points apart from spouting negativity then you dont have to be here.

Anyway, on topic. I still think they have good potential as a playable race. I just think their racial possibilities are very unique. I mean what can Tengu do? Their birds I get it but… They have nothing unique about them. Just another large animal race. Like the Charr. The Quaggans seem different to any other in-game race and they have very unique features.
I agree to this idea. I’d prefer if they were on the Hero Panel/Page. I dont like them taking up room in my inventory since they aren’t there for any reason other than to take up room.
A slot for them would be much appreciated.
just because someone has breasts doesn’t mean they want to show them off.
If agreement was a form of currency I would have just made you a very rich man.
But still. The Asura already have to deal with non-existent weapons due to the scaling of them and no matter how awesome their armor is. No one (including yourself) will ever notice.
I feel that this game has been ruined by the utterly ridiculous size gaps in the races.
Norns: So big that movement feels sluggish and looks AWFUL.
Charr: Same issue as Norn.
Asura: Infinite amount of clipping and issues but more so than any other race.
If they had just made Norns and Charrs shortrt yet still larger than humans the game would be a lot better IMO.
And I still hate this issue with Asura armor btw.
Im just so used to every race having HUGE clipping bugs now that this has stopped bothering me.
Charr: Shields, Swords, Daggers and maces (Including clothes)
Asura: EVERYTHING (including clothes)
Sylvari: Daggers
Norn: Swords and maces
Human: Clothes. Especially shoulder pieces.
I love Guild Wars but the game is completely unpolished. I suppose it’s just the type of rustic charm this game has. But I have major OCD and it drives me insane.
I like that “Aevvi” has a nice ring to it.
I have an Asura engineer who likes to mainly use the grenade kit. I named him “Phragg Grinaid”.
The reason Asura armor looks worse (especially on the females) is obviously due to something. Lazy game design? Maybe. However, I was reading through the forums and I cam across this post:
DoctorWhy.3847:
" Take off all your clothes as other races females. What do you notice? They all (actually, not sure about the Charrs) have underwear. What do the Asura women have? A swim suit. Why? Because they don’t want to have any content that may be controversial in certain countries. Countries like Australia have a ban on any (even a tiny bit) sexual representation of a woman with no breasts. Why? Because they think it is depicting a child.
They can’t have Asura be represented as sexual, because some people may think they are children, and GW2 would be banned in some countries. But that doesn’t stop them from making the bigger, more older looking women from having sexual armor with a lot of cleavage."
===================
Could that seriously be the reason? Why not just give the Asura breasts in the first place than? It wouldn’t be seen as a child. I mean we have people who suffer from dwarfism in the real world with breasts. Size should not dictate maturity.
Any thoughts?

(And by “disappointed” I am referring to the statement of ““people avoiding charr & asura are missing the strongest story stuff””)
============
I chose a human due to the fact that I wanted to play a Norn or a Charr however the Norn males are hideous and their animations are god awful. Charr’s cant hold a shield without it clipping through or way off their arm and their tail goes through most armors by clipping etc etc. And they are both SLOW. So I went with the boring old human.
The most likely race to be released next is the Tengu which is just yet again another large animal race so I’ll just stick with my human after them as well. I’m waiting for a magical race. Something like the largos etc.
This is the first MMO I have ever rolled a human. I only did it due to the Norn males having worse hairstyles, movements, animations than any other MMO race I have ever seen.
============
TL;DR?
Were you forced into playing a human due to something?
OR
Did you choose a human simply because you wanted to roll a human?
Norn females have higher grade animations, tattoos, voices, hairstyles, physiques and faces. Norn males are the lowest quality characters I have ever seen in any paid for MMO. Im just used to them being disappointing at this stage to be honest.
This idea has been brought up many, many times. However a lot of people like this idea and it makes a lot of sense. Yes, they are very polite however I feel like their rage-form or “angry-state” would make a great racial ability/necromancer type of ability (The defaalt necro F1 class skill).
Plus it would open up more variety in the place of their areas being underwater. Plus it would add a second small race to make the Asura not seem so out of place.
The only issue with them is that their skin becomes crusted and uncomfortable out of water, correct? But im sure that could be fixed with some newly added lore. Such as the Asura creating something for them so that they could stay on land etc.
Here’s a short video with more info on them:

They seem so versatile and fitting as a race. I’d definitely love to roll a Quaggan.
It really is painful. Same with the Charr sword animations. They are so hunched over that any kind of swinging animation (especially axe) makes it look like their shoulder is dislocating every time the movement ends. Their shoulder literally pops in and out and it is very noticeable in heavier armor.
I am pretty positive that not a single norn tattoo looks like that (or even that good).
If anyone could prove me otherwise with a simple screenshot or direction to where that tattoo is than that would be handy.
EDIT: I have checked and that tattoo is in fact not in the game. I knew it was too good looking to be a male norn tattoo. It didn’t look like a 5 year old drew it, it was a dead giveaway.
(edited by Vis.8471)
Okay, first of all. I just think that the male norn tattoos look utterly horrible. I just cant bring myself to sugarcoat it. They look atrocious. Like a 5 year old drew them with a thick felt pen. I know they are supposed to be a tiny bit tribal and viking-ish but still… The female tattoos just look much much better. To me at least.
Also I found this. It’s an old picture of when GW2 was still being released.
Norn male tattoos do not look that good and as far as I know neither does their armor and I run the game on the highest settings. But that might just be me thinking that.
However I am almost 100% positive that male tattoo is not in the game which is a shame since it is by far the highest quality one I have seen.
Gotta bump this back up into the active side of the forums, I am Vis and I give a Skritt.
I understand there would be A LOT of issues with the Skritt becoming playable etc but… I just… I love them so much.
The Charr, their faces… They are based on…
THE BEAST! The beast from beauty and the beast! How did I not see it earlier?
I can’t believe I never thought of it before…
And I don’t care what ArenaNet say, it’s totally based on the beast. Even if they don’t admit it for fear of copyright or something.
It’s totally based on the beast. I care not for any of your counter arguments. This is now a fact. Deal with it.
Okay, I’ve read all these types of threads before. A lot of them. So before I begin, let me state a few things:
- I understand Norn and Charr are large and it works well with their “Lore”. Please do not bring that up as a valid defense for their sizes.
- I understand these races are supposed to be bulky due to what and who they are. However, once again. This will not be a valid defense or excuse for their sizes in this thread.

So as I said, I know the Norn are big and it goes along with their lore and persona. I get that. I honestly do. That’s not the issue. The issue is that from a gameplay perspective it seems like a less than desirable move. Why make them that big?
I know you can make both races smaller but all (or most) of the races NPC’s will always be max height. So that won’t fix it. It’s just odd.
This game is an RPG. An MMO, yes. But still an RPG. One of the main goals of a game like this is too become better and better. To become stronger and advance. But as an Asura or any other of the races that aren’t at their max height sliders, whats the point? Why would I bother working so hard for this awesome looking armor and weapons when most of the other players cant even see me? It feels awkward fighting something when you’re up to its waist.
Max Norn height is around 8"7 if I can remember correctly. And I think max human height is 6"3-6"7. I know Norns are supposed to be huge. But thats way too big of a gap. As a norn, humans look stupid. They just look ridiculous. They look like tiny little sprites. And as a human or even an asura the norn just look stupid, they look like huge compared to me and if I happen to be playing a Human warrior at the time then I just feel silly. Im supposed to be “The big bad powerful warrior” but its hard to feel that way when im up to this norns chest or lower.
I agree that the Norn and Charr should be larger than other races, but the gap between the max heights needs to be shortened by a good amount.
Sorry for the long post by the way.
Any thoughts? (Once again, please do not bring up the “lore”. This is from a gameplay perspective)
