A comment on boss mechanics design

Now that the boss health is effectively doubled, I’d like to comment on Anet’s boss fight designs, as they seem to get a bit repetitive.

Almost all world boss monsters in GW2 are quite similar in how they are fought.

1. We do a pre
2. We fight the boss (Normally by just zerg DPS)
3. After certain time, or health threshold (normally @ around 25%), a sub-quest begins. We have to do something different, e.g.. charge vigil megalaser, destroy the portals to the underworld, etc..
4. Repeat 2 and 3 until the boss monster is dead.

Now I haven’t really played other MMORPGs to compare, but this particular set of method seems like it’s becoming a “norm” within GW2, which can be seen even in personal stories. (Like the latest season 2 living story where we had to fight the Shadow of the something?)

Now that the boss health is doubled, the step 2-3 sometimes have to be done several times, which even in a single boss fight becomes pretty boring.

I think Triple Trouble, in this sense, is a “better” boss design, although each individual heads does the same set of method mentioned above, i.e. placing kegs, collecting toxins and such, but it takes a step further than that, so a “single” boss has to be done simultaneously over three different places.

VW and Breach, they are also “better” boss fights than the original world boss fights.

But, Triple Trouble is too difficult, and VW and Breach are endgame. Hopefully in HoT there would be more diverse methods in killing the boss that’s not too hardcore so it can be enjoyed by all PvE community regardless of level and experience.

I dunno about WvW zerg… but how many condition cleanses can a single roamer have?? it’s like 3-5 max with 30+ seconds cooldown, when a single necro can have like…
a million conditions constantly on you.

If there’s a new stuff coming out that can potentially disrupt your play style, then learn and adapt.

Sorry but you are misslead there, the “/stuck” command does not unstuck you it merely reports your position

/stuck – logs your position, use it when you are stuck to report it
- from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chat_command

Oh, so apparently Anet takes a look @ those logs and fixes the map?

But isn’t there a notorious “stuck place” in HotW p1? To whom exactly do we send these reports?

It’s possible to get stuck in something, especially when repairing a wall in WvW.

Apparently there’s a command that can get you out of those situations, which is “/stuck”

Does this even work??

I had to waypoint to spawn, and run all the way back in some important situations.

And just now, my friend got stuck in the most unimaginable place ever, and nothing seems to work other than WPing.

Why is there still no dueling?

Disclaimer: I haven’t read the entire forum post, so what I have here written makes no claim to novelty in points of detail ; and therefore I give no sources, because it is indifferent to me whether what I have thought has already been thought before me by another.

Kidding aside,

When dueling is implemented, no matter how “friendly” the system is, it will ALWAYS act as a central measure of skill, just like every other game that allows a 1v1. This is quite apparent if you think about a generic FPS game, and how people frequently say “1v1 me rust quickscope u n00b” in such an environment. As a competitive FPS player as well, I can confidently say how meaningless those 1v1s are (skill-wise), compared to a 5v5 legitimate team scrims.

GW2 is aimed @ collaborative efforts instead of focusing on individual skills, and if a serious 1v1 is implemented in the game, then GW2’s primary aim would be… more or less… diminished.

But above everything else, imagine all the QQ threads, balance threads, whining threads flooding the entire forum after losing a “friendly” duel.

VladeKR.9851

When fighting Lupi, there’s a thing where in the first phase we can push him into the wall and the guardian uses the Consecration skill Wall of Reflection on top of that wall, such that Lupi’s AoE attacks are all reflected. Is this an exploit??

I’m doing Arah now, and the party members are arguing whether or not we should do it.

And I’m the guardian.

I have to do the dirty work.

So I’m thinking of serious donation that will only be aimed @ cape development.

How much would I need for this to launch?

*Note: I understand this could be an unoriginal idea, and could’ve been brought up in the forums before.

For example, when we have a Superior Sigil of Something that does “Something” with 60% chance on critical, (5 seconds cooldown)

Then we could have a small icon of Superior Sigil of Something somewhere above the skillbar, and whenever it activates, it shows it goes on 5 seconds cooldown like the weap/util skills on the skillbar.

Same thing could go for the Traits, that gives us something every minute. Or has a cd of “x” seconds.

Same thing could go for the guardian Virtues of Courage, where it says “gives aegis every x seconds” we could actually show those “x” seconds, somewhere.

Because one of their profession mechanics is “Steal.”

Then that would also be part of my question as well. It is inherently incriminating, and I question the nature of Tyrian society where profession like such is regarded “acceptable.”

Thief is fine. Would you have preferred, Robber? Burglar? Bandit? Caper? I didn’t think so. Thieves are all about the stealth, and the challenge.

Imagine a parallel universe where the Thief was originally named Caper.

“Caper is fine. Would you have preferred Robber? Burglar? Bandit? Thief? I didn’t think so.” Nice confirmation bias right there =)

Google’d define thief : (n) a person who steals another person’s property, especially by stealth and without using force or violence.

Well I didn’t intend to nitpick on that part “no-violence.”

My main intent was that the word “thief” is inherently incriminating.

Can we have Guild-Chat app?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

VladeKR.9851

Anet wants to open up the API to allow this.
Most players would love this.

The problem is the security. I believe they are waiting for a fully completed implementation of OAuth2 before allowing open-source devs to produce such things.

API?

OAuth2?

Wuht???

I"m very sorry but that didn’t seem like English to me.

By context, I think you mean that ArenaNet has to release “set of codes” so that some other devs can work on it, while the entire game code isn’t stolen.

But can’t Anet develop a chat app themselves? I mean… they developed this game. Lol. I’m no programmar/ software developer, but a chat app seems like a much easier job than an MMORPG. Correct me if I’m wrong.

"Outnumbered" serves no WvW benefits

in WvW

Posted by: VladeKR.9851

VladeKR.9851

*Introductory note: I dislike creating threads with the same topic as some old thread, but search/sort function of GW2 forum is, quite unreliable. I suspect SOMEONE must’ve had the same idea and posted it on the forums, but couldn’t find any through search function.

First I would like to introduce my world: Kaineng. We constantly battle against Eredon Terrace to not be the first (from last).

Of course, WvW being WvWvW, any other world we face against other than ET has a lot more participants. 90% of the time I have this neat “buff” saying we’re “outnumbered”

But let’s look @ the buff benefits.

“The enemies greatly outnumber your forces, be careful out there!
+33% Experience
+20% Magic find
+25% World Experience
Take no armor damage on death”

In my opinion, these “buffs” are too self-centered when the WvW should be about the team (world) and thus should give more “worldly benefits”.

1. Experience : 33% more Experience? Great! But it’s only for you and your teammates, but not to the world itself.

2: Magic Find: Same goes with the +20% Magic Find. Seriously, if you find a precursor in a WvW drop, the chances are you’re leaving WvW game immediately to craft legendary or something.

3. World Experience : This would be the only real benefit to the World-game itself would be +25% World Experience. This, in my opinion, is fine.

4. No armor damage: Now that armor repair is free, I don’t even know why this would be a “buff”.

Some suggestions:

1. Longer “Righteous Indignation.” The standard length of time of RI is three minutes. Three minutes is a long time to wait, but it’s a short time to get somewhere, and cap a point. This means, by the time you’re done capturing a point, get the RI up, and move onto your way to another capture point, the chances are the previously captured point has lost its RI hence re-capped.

The argument may be that WvW isn’t just a capping game, but also a defending game. But seriously, you are “outnumbered” good luck defending against a swarm of zergs.

The longer RI would serve to give the outnumbered team to strategically time their cap points to get the resulting World-Points.

2. Give a buff that actually DOES help when you’re facing off a larger force. This would mean not more experience. And there would be tons of way to do this.

a. Reduce cooldown time of elite skills.
I’ve read the forums that some of the elite skills have way too long CD, but the power they give are too underwhelming. I agreed, and thought to implement it somewhere.

Movement speed buff
Self explanatory.

c. Faster capture speed
Self explanatory.

d. Bonus expendable World Ability Points (that is nulled when the “outnumbered” is finished)
Doesn’t have to be ability points, but rather the buff to give one or two more “sub-ranks”
e.g. If I wanted two more subranks on the “Guard Killer” Upgrade from rank 7 to 9, I would’ve needed 45 WAPs.

e. Easier to demoralize/help mercenaries

These are some examples that DON’T directly buff our characters, but rather the World itself. Frankly, I thought the direct buffs like the movement speed buff mentioned above are quite “boring” and “dull.” If the Anet isn’t too creative, then they could just replace the buff to like “+n Power, +n Vitality, +n Toughness” whatever.

The point is that the current buffs don’t buff the World as a whole, and I think it is quite serious to the Worlds that are frequently “outnumbered” and everyone knows being outnumbered in WvW is an extremely hard challenge.

I’m a relative newb to the WvW, just hit rank 58.. or something

I’ve captured the SMC 6 times so far, but I’ve only gotten the reward 4 times.

The last two consecutive captures didn’t give me any “event rewards” and the last capture happened just 2 minutes ago, resulting me in rage quit.

And this isn’t only SMC specific, this happened once more when I was capturing a tower.

I’ve already posted this before in a General Discussion forum, with no replies so far =(
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Excessive-Boosters-make-the-game-buggy/first#post4075561

I initially thought this was a booster-related bug, as I was spamming various boosters @ the time.

But this time (few minutes ago), I wasn’t using a single booster. Thus, my “booster theory” is garbage. Something’s bugging the WvW (Now I’m doubting mass zerg caps)

Is this intended? But how’s it even possible to take down SMC without a zerg.

Excessive Boosters make the game buggy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: VladeKR.9851

VladeKR.9851

After awhile of playing… I had like a big stack of boosters I never really used, like Speed boosters, karma boosters, world experience boosters etc etc etc… and I was like.. what’s the point of stacking those, they are meant to be used. So I used them.

I played around 2 hours of WvW after activating the following boosters: 1hr karma-gain, 1hr 50% WvW experience, 1hr Speed (15%), 1hr 50% Magic Find Increase. (as I said I played TWO hours of WvW, total of 8 boosters were consumed)

Now for the buggy part.

I’m still a relative newb to wvw, ranking @ 53 Footman (finished 2k14 wvw achievements for “Mist Runner” title but anyways) so I’m not entirely sure if this bug is booster-caused.

What happened was, when I was capturing a zone i.e. Camp, Tower, Castle, I didn’t get the “event-completion reward”. I’m in Blue team, so whenever we cap a zone, a blue circle appears on the ground. Stand inside it, you get it. But that’s not what happened when I was capturing the SMC in Eternal Battlegrounds. The event completed without rewarding me. Happened once again when we were capping a tower. (I got around 12k karma for this run, sooo.. the percentage of this “bug” would be around <5%… but I MISSED THE SMC REWARD!!)

The reason I suspect this is a booster-related bug, is because this never occurred to me before, when I wasn’t using any boosters.

Is this a known issue?
Or am I just tremendously unlucky?

I don’t even expect Anet to respond.
