My skritt brethren. I always cry a little inside when I do. The one line from the female skritt in Brisban Wildlands always makes me chuckle, “Nooo our shines! Bad men took them! Get them back!”
Do one dungeon a day and WvWvW for the rest of the time. It’s not grinding if you don’t make it grinding. You will eventually get the exotics you desire. Rare > Exotic is a very minor stat increase. You’re not missing that much. Honest.
But well-designed raids are actually Fun.
Go play WoW then. Raids serve no purpose in the Guild Wars universe.
There’s a difference between constructive criticism and whining that the game doesn’t fit your pre-conceived expectations. 90% of people are just complaining for the sake of complaining. Very few can give legitimate reasons as to why they are complaining, and even fewer can debate their position on the game without spouting off the same circular logic every post.
I’ve been reading these forums a lot over the last few days and a lot of the criticisms are not like that at all; they’re well written and do have very good reason. There are many similar threads on similar subjects, but I feel that’s a good thing. There are grave problems with endgame and it needs to be visible to ArenaNet that a lot of people are not happy about it.
Most, if not all of the criticisms are that GW2 is not like the other MMOs on the market. I don’t know what you’ve been reading but that’s all I’ve been reading.
Wahh I don’t want to grind.
Wahh there’s no endgame.
Wahh I played for 4 weeks non stop did everything now I’m bored.
Everyone has this predisposition in their minds that to obtain anything they have to do it now, or it will somehow forever be out of their reach. The only thing I’ve ever had to grind in this game so far is crafting mats, and even then it was only in stretches of 30 minutes to an hour.
You’re right there’s no endgame. The whole game is the endgame. So what if there isn’t stat progression. The game was’t made for that type of play. You can make an 80 as soon as you get a character to level 2 which takes all of 15-20 minutes. Name me another game that lets you do that.
If you’ve done everything in this game by now then I’m sorry you played it wrong in my opinion. Do people buy cars to drive them as fast as they can wherever they go to see if they can get it out of warranty faster than Joe Bob that bought his the same time? No! It’s a waste! There’s no time to drive around with the windows down and enjoy the road.
I’ve said it many times already. People need to stop rushing and just play. GW is not like other MMOs. Well it can be, but people will complain that it is, which leads to topics like you’re talking about. Once people sit back and realize that you shouldn’t play this like other MMOs, then and only then will they start enjoying the game for what it’s worth.
Err…When did I ever say I didn’t like the Mesmer class in GW2? I also believe this is a thread on how I as a player would improve the Mesmer class. You sir need to get off your high horse and realize that people posted their opinions on how they feel the class could be stronger and/or play better.
I also understand that this is a new game. There’s also the fact that Mesmer’s took the biggest hit with the reimagination from GW1. Every other class plays similarly to their previous counter-part in one way or the other. Mesmers on the other hand are almost 100% new with the Illusion mechanic. The potential was/is still there. I as a former and current Mesmer player am disappointed in the direction Anet chose, but that won’t stop me from loving the class.
I feel like anymore said on this would just cause you to pop some blood vessels and spray saliva all over your screen in a nerd rage. This is a suggestion thread. Maybe YOU should leave and let people discuss the topic of this thread.
EDIT: @EasymodeX
No I do not want to play the same class I used to. I would however like to see some of the utilities that made Mesmer’s so much fun to play in the previous game return, in addition to the Illusion mechanics. Like I said. There was soooo much potential with which direction Anet could have gone with GW2 Mesmers. They just left out too much of what was once good and added way more than was required on the Illusion side. My guildy says it best every day, “You just pop Illusions and it plays the game for you”. I don’t agree completely, but Illusions play too much of a factor.

They are no longer A master of illusion, misdirection, and control, the Mesmer subverts the damage-dealing capabilities of others, manipulating their perceptions to achieve personal goals. (Guild Wars 1 Wiki)
This is Guild Wars 2.
I enjoyed the Mesmer class in GW1 as much as anyone, but it’s a different game.
Just because this is a different game doesn’t mean that Mesmer has to be the only class that was without a doubt completely gutted into something that doesn’t resemble the previous iteration in the slightest minus skill names.
When I heard that Mesmer’s were returning to GW2 I was ecstatic. I played my fair share of Mesmer in GW1 and it was a blast. Unfortunately most of, if not all of the fun that the Mesmer class used to be felt like it was cut for some reason. I understand that there is no resource system in GW2 so that would remove some of the abilities that Mesmer’s were famous for in GW1.
To me, my ideal Mesmer is denial, punishment and confusion.
Denial in the fact that you cannot use the abilities that you want to use because I as a Mesmer feel that I don’t want you to. Case in point, interruptions, AoE knockdowns and conditions that make the enemy player choose whether or not to take the damage or sacrifice casting abilities.
Punishment comes into play when enemies try and forcibly power through our abilities and are in return rewarded with pain. Where’s my Backfire? Clumsiness? Panic? I should be able to cause damage when my enemies attack me if I feel like it.
Confusion should be the mental state that comes into play when facing a Mesmer. You should know that you will be punished for trying to do damage. You should know you’re going to be interrupted and denied access to your abilities. Being able to control opponents like that is what made a Mesmer an amazing class to play in GW1.
On to GW2 now after my trip down nostalgia lane. I don’t really know how to begin with the whole Illusion thing. It works, yes. It works well, but there is so much more that a Mesmer could have been when you take into account the template that came before it. Right now as it stands we’re way closer to a Jack-of-All-Trades-Master-of-None sort of deal. I don’t like that. It makes me feel like I’m a burden on my team when I play because I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing.
First things first. We need to take the damage away from our Illusions and give it back to the player. Why the fish am I hitting with my Greatsword for 500-900 damage when my Illusionary Berserker is critting for 2-3k? Why do my Winds of Chaos hit for 200-400 when my Illusionary Warlock crits forkittennear 6k? There was too much invested in the Illusions and not enough in the Mesmer potential.
Next we need to bring back the old and mesh it with the new. I want my Controlled Chaos back. That is essentially what I would call the Mesmer’s of old. I want my AoE interrupts/damage back, my denial of abilities, punishment for attempting to do damage and most importantly my ability to make my opponents to think whether or not to do something or to regret their actions for doing so.
Don’t get me wrong. The Mesmer class in it’s current incarnation works. It just such a drastic change from the way they once were that it’s sad. They are no longer A master of illusion, misdirection, and control, the Mesmer subverts the damage-dealing capabilities of others, manipulating their perceptions to achieve personal goals. (Guild Wars 1 Wiki) They are like many people have been saying, a pet class who rely on buggy AI to do the damage for them.
TL:DR:
Give me back my damage from my Illusions. Give me more denial utility. Give me a defined niche in the group that doesn’t attempt to imitate others.
So?
No seriously what is the problem? You don’t want the “baddies” to have the same cool looking gear as someone as awesome as you?
Why not have a sight at each vendor that says:
"
—->
You have to be atleast this Awesome to purchase gear here"Amirite?
Yes that is exactly what I’m getting at. Why should I have to put in the work to complete Arah explorable while you run through Catacombs and get the same looking gear I have? It defeats the purpose of even doing the dungeon at all!
Making tokens universal is just going to create a Justice Points system which in turn makes gear easier to get. When you can run the easiest dungeon to get Arah loot that is also another way of asking for easy mode.
I do agree with you though, the farming runs and 2 boss shard farms are hurting the dungeon system more than asking for universal tokens. In my opinion though, one should have to put in the time at the place required for the loot to be received. Not take the easy route and farm the lower end to get higher end gear.
Case in point the WoW heroics giving raiding gear. Granted it wasn’t heroic stuff, it was still the same model. Less effort = same reward for the people doing the proper path for gear. Making universal tokens is a step in that direction and I feel it would create more problems in the long run with people “burning out” because they’ve finished their characters.
I run dungeons with my friends who understand that people have different needs. They are willing to do other explorable modes for me because they know when they ask for help I will help them. Sounds like you need to find a group of friends, or a new guild.
Being forced to do something that I don’t enjoy…yeah…
Is someone in your house placing a gun to your head and saying FARM ARAH OR ELSE!!
You are forcing yourself to grind and farm for the gear. It’s your fault you want it fast.
Why don’t you ask Anet to reduce the ridiculous cost of items so the only way to get a set from Arah isn’t to farm for 5 hours a day doing speed runs for 2 weeks straight or without speed runs, for 12 hours a day for 6 months straight?
This is supposed to be a casual friendly game where people with jobs, families, and normal lives can have a good time but as of right now it’s looking like just as much, if not more, of a grind fest than every other MMO on the market.
You understand that you’re creating an artifical grind in your own right. Correct? No one said you had to get the Dungeon set ASAP. You’re not sharing drop tokens with everyone. Yes it will take time. I don’t know how many times I have to say this but, It’s freaking supposed to. Why is that so hard to understand?
No I believe you’re just trying to justify a bad idea to try and fix a problem that doesn’t exist.
When did you kill her? I know this weekend when myself and my group did it we were unable to kill her. The sparks were bugging out, not activating the circles they were supposed to go in and by the time we got the sparks into the circles she was above 50% again and we had to start all over again. Here’s to hoping that Anet too my ticket into account and fixed it for everyone else.
No you run ascalon to purchase Orr boots, but if you want an Orr chest peice you would need to run Orr.
No way does it make it easier… If you want a full set of any gear you would need to run EVERY dungeon making it HARDER. Now you cant just farm the first 2 bosses of Orr to get your dungeon gear you actually will need to complete the entire dungeon. Also you would need to complete other difficult dungeons instead of facerolling the same 1 over and over again.
Oh i forgot farming the first 2 bosses of Orr is really hard for you….
Purchasing items from running separate dungeons goes against the whole dungeon set philosophy. You’re wanting an easy way to get a set without having to put the work in that is required for it. Universal tokens is not the answer.
BTW, I’ve only done the Seer’s path in Arah. I couldn’t finish it because the last boss was nigh unkillable. Look her up. Her name is Simin. She’s lovely. I’ve never done a shard run, because I’m not in a rush to complete everything as soon as I see it.
@Yukishiro (Can’t multi-quote for some reason.)
Just hop between dungeons. It’s not that hard. Everyone is all up in arms about grind this, farm that. It takes toooo much time. Wahhhh. What everyone fails to realize is that Anet didn’t want these sets to be gained easily. You choose to grind if you want to. In the end you’re only hurting yourself. Yes it might take MORE time to get the full set, but enjoy the game. Save up for the set so when you do finish it, it feels like an actually accomplishment. Not that sick feeling of never wanting to go back to a dungeon because you just spent the last 5 days/8hrs a day grinding for your set.
Everyone is up in arms about anti farming code, anti grinding code. The reason why Anet did this is to make people slow down and actually play the game. Why does everything have to be a rush? Rush to 80. Rush to Dungeon sets. Rush to complete achievements. That’s why MMOs are stagnating. Everyone is in so much of akittenrush they forget to stop and smell the roses.
Fix) Revamp tokens. Make a head, shoulder, leg, chest, glove, boot, offhand, and (main head/two hand) token for COMPLETING a dungeon. There is 8 dungeons and 8 pieces of gear, this requires players who want a full set to run every single dungeon. Allow these tokens to purchase ANY token gear, so people who want dungeon set A can play with players who want dungeon set B. This will spread out the amount of players who were originally playing the same dungeon.
is will Force players to actually FINISH the dungeons rather then “farm” the first 2 bosses.
Um…you’re asking for tokens to revamped thus making it easier for gear to be gained. Why should you be able to run Ascalon Catacombs to be able to purchase Orr gear?
So you want to exert minimal effort for extreme rewards? Sorry. GW2 is not for you.
Dungeon gear was not meant to be gained easily. Please return to a game that allows instant gratification and stop trying to petition for GW2 to become another WoW/Tera/Aeon.
That is my mistake Synthetics.6709. I meant to say Prestige armor. Which is what the dungeon sets equate to. They have high costs because they look amazing. They look is justified by the cost. I didn’t see anyone complaining about the high cost of Obsidian armor back in GW1. Everyone was like “OMG It’s so cool! I can’t wait to save up to get that armor”.
Also,
Thank you Robert for your explanation. I’m glad to see that you’re upholding your dungeon design and not caving to the mass hysteria.
Elaborate please?
As far as I know everyone is up in arms about things being too hard and token cost being too high. If it’s about making money, there are tons of other ways, easier ways to make money rather than chain running dungeons.
Copy and Pasted from another topic:
Exotic armor should NOT be easy to get. Everyone who is complaining that the “easy way” of getting exotic prestige armor got fixed is in the wrong. So you can’t run the easy path anymore to get your exotic armor easy. That is intended. If anyone has played GW1 and remembers Obby armor, or 15k armor you would see the dungeons in a different light.
Too many people are focused on the now, now, now. I want my rewards NOW. If I don’t get them NOW I’m going to bekitten It’s pathetic that everyone has been conditioned to be able to get everything they want when they want it. No one has to work anymore for anything. I for one am ecstatic about having to work for my exotic skins. It gives me a purpose to play the game.
Stop rushing. Start playing.
P.S. Much like someone else said. Crafted Exotics have the same stats that dungeon exotics do. They might not have the stat spread that you want, but they have the same level of stats. Dungeon gear is purely cosmetic. Stop treating it like an easy to obtain set. It’s not SUPPOSED to be.

Honestly, gold is not hard to make. There are guides all over the internet for Orichalcum farms that take at the most 30 minutes a day. That alone will net you ~1g. Factor in if you do events along the way that’s another 5-20 silver. If you get super lucky with Orb hits on Orichalcum veins then that’s another 15s per Ruby Orb as well.
Not everybody wants to spend their time farming!!!!
So now 30-45 minutes of gaming is considered a lot of your time? Um…Why are you playing an MMO then? Gold doesn’t magically appear. How else will you get it?
Sounds like you need to stop using waypoints like a personal chauffeur then. There’s Asura gates that make long distance travel easier, and if you have to get back to Lion’s Arch in a hurry just “Go to the Mists” – > Asura gate to Lion’s Arch.
There’s easy ways to save money, and there’re easy ways to make money. Don’t say that you have to farm your face off and sell every usable thing when there are obvious solutions to your problems.

So you’re saying the Solution is to Farm to Grind
To sell everything useable Kitten other people that are probably in your guild that could use them. It’s all about you It’s all about how fat you can make your wallet and if someone else is having a bad time Kitten them tooYeah that just SCREAMS Breaking from the Norm MMORPG mold…
So you should just have money handed to you for doing nothing then? No wonder the waypoints cost too much. You don’t feel like working for anything.
30-45 minutes a day is hardly a bad grind. There are many other things in this game that can be considered a grind, but a daily Orichalcum run is quite possibly the easiest thing you can do to make money. You don’t even have to kill anything!
