Siege weapons provide World XP when destroyed.
I cant be the only person who sees the impending issue with this.
This is a very bad change IMO. We already have enough issues with people building siege to hit Siege caps, now it will get……ALOT…..worse……
Modify the lyrics to “You build a ram and ill build a ram, Honey. You build a ram and ill build a ram, Baby. You build a ram and ill build a ram, and will fight and screw our servers all night and day. Honnneeey Babbyyyy.”

Some great news. Thanks for getting everything worked out Devon and server crew.

Well, Australian players gets shafted again. Shocker.
10-11am on a Saturday morning was too perfect to last, I suppose.
Just quoting this because the primary focus of this thread continues to be NA vs EU for some reason that i cant comprehend.
Turns out this screws over Australian time zones as well. 2 PM PST / 5 PM EST = 7 AM their time. Not exactly what i would call optimal or convenient either.
Nice to hear that Devon has this as a top priority. Hopefully it gets worked out soon.

I play Tier 7…..and there is a queue. The last 4 weeks (when SF was in Tier 8 ), there was a queue for multiple borderlands.
SF is obviously a T8 server in terms of population
/facepalm
Tier 8 with a queue. The point is how poor of a change this is, and it screws many people over.
I would imagine that there are other servers with queues between Tier 8 and Tier 3. Saying he should leave Tier 2 to not have a queue is really what deserves a facepalm….
Focusing on anything other than the fact that a better solution to this problem is needed is straying from the point……

Our guild was really starting to drift away from GW2 earlier this year. We were looking for other games to play as a group to keep us together. But with the culling fix, we recommitted to the game, because it looked like Anet were themselves committed to making WvW better. (And no culling made small group work possible in the high tiers again).
Screwing NA reset, however, tells me that Anet does not understand their own game. For serious WvW guilds, Reset is the night around which all other things revolve. Guilds have to communicate the most then. That’s when you test out your strategies to see if they will work in the hardest environment. And it’s then you have to play at your best. The rest of the week feels like casual play until reset comes around again.
Anet, you take that away at your own peril.
Exactly. My guild has events every night of the week. The only one i look forward to is Friday night WvW reset rush; where everything is hectic and tons of fun.
This will absolutely kill that.
Don’t play on a T2 server then.
I play Tier 7…..and there is a queue. The last 4 weeks (when SF was in Tier 8 ), there was a queue for multiple borderlands.

Hey, in all seriousness here……………………………….Why not a Saturday mid day PST reset time?
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM?
Does it NEED to be Friday?
Because they don’t want to force the team to work 6 days a week?
Is this seriously the concern? I am a bit out of touch, and i really am asking if that was an answer the devs gave.
Cuz i mean…..why cant this be automated like the actual daily resets are? Is there manual calculations that go into place to decide who moves up and down a tier? Cuz again, that seems like it could be automated.

I love how their initial reaction to any game change that causes an uproar is to lock the post to keep people from commenting. They really need a PR person to advise them that doing things like that is not in their best interest.
It was rather smart of them to lock it though, since it was more or less only people flaming, no real discussion.
Step 1, EU servers complain about something that inconvininces them (Rightly so, btw)
Step 2, Anet decides EU has a point, and makes a band aid fix that doesnt actually fix the problem and screws over NA players
Step 3, NA players complain about being screwed over with short notice, and voice much hate for a kitten fix on Anets part, and no forethought planning to seperate reset time due to region
Step 4, Anet throws up their hands in frustration, lock/delete all threads that hint at the topic, and hope the issue magically goes awayPredicting Step 5, People start seeing that Anet isnt taking this stuff seriously, and start to seriously look at other games to play.
oh noes the sky is falling in.
….
Anet were in a kitten if they do, kitten if they dont situation> I assume they looked for a solution that worked best the biggest proportion of their playerbase. and this is it, its not ideal for anyone, but its making the best of the situation.
No, this was a “lets ignore this and see if it goes away….oh it didnt? OK guys, what can we do to quickly address the specific complaints with the minimal amount of effort”. “Did i hear someone say shift the inconvenience to the group that isnt yet suffering? BRILLIANT! That will give us another 8 months to try to figure something out.”
Followed by “Woah, the community had a good idea on the forums. Hey Bill, can we separate the EU and NA reset times? ……….Ya i know this is a really last minute question, and i should have asked this months ago when you had time to work on it, just give me an answer! Not without alot of work, you say? About 2 months worth of work? …..I will just tell them it isnt possible.”
/scene
This in no way reflects what actually happens at Anet, and is meant as a dramatization from someone having some fun and venting at a very poor change to a game he loves. I will now await the incoming moderation.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
So in conclusion: Split EU and NA, and stopping the bickering between EU and everyone else.
Agreed.
It is kitten funny that it has taken them, eight months to do this little band aid fix. Your telling me that in eight months, some planning couldnt have been made to separate the server regions so that reset times could be convenient for all?
For eight months you let EU complain and suffer, and now your just going to shift the pile of crap onto a different region’s back?
Amazing.
The developer responding to us JUST asked the server guys if it was even an option the other day? Jesus tap dancing Christ guys…

Anet really screwed the pooch on this one. I am really starting to have my nerves worked by kitten solutions that dont fix a problem, just shift the burden onto another group of player’s shoulders.
Im thrilled that there are no more server reset rushes for me. That is going to make it that much easier to burn out of the game and move on.

Another quick FYI. An uplevel in a golem….is still a golem.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Well both the Anet’s were on upscales, and they were following a commander just like everyone else there. Just sayin..
Sorry, but when you lie it makes me disregard the rest of what you say.
See that screenshot that i linked? See the Arenanet tag on the person being targeted? See the lack of a green up arrow?
Just….sayin…..
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Yes, NSP has two Anet “tagged” people who run around from time to time. I’ve talked to one of them before. It’s only an artist and his girlfriend. They aren’t giving us anything special, they are just playing on their own time. If you ask them, they’ll tell you.
If one of them is a mesmer we saw him yesterday outside of SM in EB….Trust me he wasn’t invulnerable, lol we tested it over and over and over and….
As far as the invulnerable golem thing? Who knows, I wasn’t in that BL when that went down, so I can’t say…But it would be pretty dumb on ANETs part to do that, so I doubt he was truly invulnerable.
To be clear, i am not implying that golem was invulnerable. I didnt see that myself, and i am pretty sure that it went down.
My point was just that it is funny to see people say that the developers helped out SF too much by moving us up in rank after we dominated Tier 8 for MONTHS, and implying we dont deserve it, but are OK with developers getting a golem army going for their server and taking over an entire enemy borderland.
Hypocritical stuff like that tickles my funny bone line nothin else.
Invulnerable or not, advantage or not, if a Pug sees a developer tag you can bet your kitten he will follow em to victory.
One of the biggest hurtles of WvW is getting your server working together…. And in that regard an Anet tag >>>>> blue commander icon.
Im not going to say how developers play their game, but if they are doing it on their own time i think it is pretty silly to do it in a way that could clearly provide an advantage, if in coordination alone.

The main point you mindless zergers seem to miss… Is just because Anet allows your mindless Zerg to win most fights because of the numbers you have (I.e 25 people fighting 5 people at a supply camp) doesn’t mean youre honing any skills. It means Anet has allowed you guys to win those fights. Has nothing to do with your organization or talent and everything to do with the fact that you have 20 more guys than the opposing camp defenders to mash #1.
First, I do not zerg so drop your attitude. Zerging is part of WvW whether you like it or not. This is a fight to WIN, not win without hurting the losers feelings. Anet doesn’t ALLOW us to win, we win with strategy and tactics with zerging being ONE of those tactics.
Myself, I prefer smaller, more organized groups that perform the real work before AND after the zerg does the their work. And sure, we join the zerg for precision strikes to speed thing up or help with stubborn defense.
And it is honing the zergs skills. You sound like our friends over in T8 when we first started beating them each week. If you are so worried about numbers then just be patient while we win some match-ups and we will move into T6 sooner or later.
Remember, it is just a game so have fun in whatever you are doing!
Tell me what you are winning? How long has SF been in tier 8? What has all your “winning” gained you? All your “score updates”? You guys have been in T8 for months. Doesn’t seem like you have won anything. All you guys that say WvW is about “winning” never have an answer for Anet putting you on the top of the scoreboard and KEEPING you in the same tier.
So your response for “Zergs reasoning for fighting that style is to win” is just a funny argument. You guys get on everyday group up behind blue Doritos and bang on keeps and towers which end up being retaken half hour later. Doesn’t gain you a thing…. You say “we are playing for points”….Again what do those points gain you? Months and months of the same thing to MAYBE move up to be the bottom feeders in the exact same process?
So the mindless hours spent in a Zerg (not honing skills by the way… You can press #1 and kill just about anything) are spent towards a meaningless non-outcome changing score….
So the answer (unless you are 100% casual only) is you should at least work on becoming a better player.
I started reading the last page of this thread to see some recent stuff, ran across this post and realized i shouldnt even bother.
People are always going to think the enemy server has more players which are all fully decked out in Greens and Blues (ironically matching their color on the weekly matchup), while their server is full of 5 man highly tactical groups in Pink Ascended, taking out 50 man paper zergs.
“The only reason my server ever loses is because we are outmanned, and X server doesnt deserve the keep they just took.”
Until you try defending a keep against a group of Anet golems, dont talk to me about a developer helping out an enemy server too much.

DAoC: 46 unique classes, 3 unique realms.
GW2: 8 classes, 1 realm.DAoC: Huge frontiers, slower paced territory control, ultimately pushing on heavily defended relic keeps.
GW2: Playground sized frontier, siege keep A from keep B’s wall. Objectives of imaginary importance.DAoC playstyle options: Zerg, 8man roam, small group roam, solo, stealth, DF, Labby.
GW2 playstyle options: Zerg or be zerged, solo roam and fight 1 of the 3 other masochists. The main difference is DAoC was much more rock paper scissors, but this is exactly what promoted competitive teamplay. With GW2 everyone is essentially a DPS class, with (light) shades of support and control. At the rate these games have been going, pretty soon we’ll all just pick a color instead of a class, and we’ll all be given the same standard-issue beating stick, so that we can be absolutely sure we’re all on the same playing field. It’s going to be so fun!
Sorry, but saying that rock paper scissors is competitive team play, while GW2 isnt….is silly. (but then again, this entire thread is pointless)
If that comparison was true, why is it that a well organized 5 man can take down a group 3 times its size?
I feel much more pride that my Mes/Guard/Ele beat someone else’s Mes/Guard/Ele, because we outplayed them with skill. NOT that my class happened to be the rock vs their scissor. i kittenin HATE rock paper scissors.
What your complaining about is a difference of opinion, and that you prefer the DAOC system instead of the GW2 system. So…on behalf of the community, we are sorry that this game isnt designed specifically for you.
I for one prefer GW2 in this regard. I was tired of “I only lost because you had a kittenton of claw spamming Vampiirs. BTW, Nerf Hib class and buff Alb!”
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Thing that still stands out to me for DAoC was the unique classes for each realm, I know warhammer did that but was only 2 diff factions. Pity those that try/tried to balance all that in a pvp setting and still have the classes be unique.
Having fun in GW2 atm but eh to me its nothing like DAOC around SI times.
I happen to like that GW2 doesnt do unique classes for each server/realm. While it is a cool idea, it is not something that can be balanced properly.
If you try to come back and say Mythic managed it, i will be forced to laugh at you.
Its a kitten 11 year old game that had tons of flaws and still everything that came after it was worse.
DAOC was worse than its predecessors as well….
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
(edited by Voradors.5381)
All that said, RvR was still done better in DaoC then it has been since, and taking the good ideas and what worked in an older game is not a bad thing. Mythic screwed the pooch in Warhammer because they didn’t follow in there own foot steps. Anet will also not follow in DaoCs foot steps (sadly) well DaoC was player friendly in RvR for its time it is brutal by today’s mainstream standerds.
Each Mythic product was worse than the last……
And i am going to have to 2nd the other person who questioned what was brutal about DAOC by any standard?
Mythic listened to mainstream when they did DAOC and took out looting all gear off the person you killed. (which was in their previous mmo)
Sorry to break it to you, but DAOC was a carebear game compared even to other Mythic games…….and Mythic was prob smart for going that route. Most people dont want that kind of kitten in MMOs….
Fond memories are one thing, but enough of these comparison threads….
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Not sure what the point of this thread is, and i dont think GW2 should try to model their game so closely after an older game…
They are trying to improve WvW, and are making good progress so far. More is needed to be done….but DAOC wasnt that great when it came out either.
That said……….. DFC: The Crusade >>>> DAoC any day.
DAoC was Mythic’s 2nd RvRVR game, so they had some experience on how to do it right, and still screwed it up a bit (and made it WAAYYY more carebear btw).

According to a developer post, population are “home server accounts”, not determined by time of the day.
My only guess would be they might be looking at WvW populations? This also doesnt make much sense though….
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
This is definitely a good time to revisit this.
Hopefully there are some Oceanic guilds/players out there that are willing to transfer to a server that would be willing to work with them to fill a much needed coverage gap.
D W, according to the Anet blog post Sorrow’s Furnace qualifies…

Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Have you tried using the linking system? As in, shift click a POI at a tower, or a WP in a keep.
People catch on to the attack/defend idea or whatever is needed pretty quickly with that.
We have a large spanish speaking population on my server, and we get through the language barrier that way sometimes.
Just a thought.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
My entire guild and I were wishing that this was an option last night.
Should really allow it to be toggled on and off.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Last night was fun. I tend to prefer smaller fights, but it was a nice change of pace to have so many massive fights goin on.
Cant wait for to get off work. Cant wait for Friday reset.

True enough about FC and EB with the 2 breakouts. My mistake. I just saw the bottom right corner and laughed, knowing that it would be bottom left if you were at SF.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Such an outdated score post… Here is some actual points.
PS: Oh look, we’re outmanned!
Made me laugh that there is no outmanned buff in the screenshot. Just the breakout NPC vitality buff.
I guess if you get the 2 confused, it is easy to think your constantly outmanned.
Edit because, funnier still…..your on FC borderland. Goes against the standard “We are always outmanned by SF!”

Honestly, while i would always enjoy more support on my server (Sorrow’s Furnace), if you want to stay on a Tier 8 server, I would say ET and FC are in more need of reinforcements to help make things balance out a bit.
Possibly FC more than ET from what i have seen on the field.
That said, if you are a late night player or Oceanic player, Sorrow’s Furnace could use some WvW reinforcements there.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
It would be great if some Oceanic players joined Sorrow’s Furnace.
As Manoa said, we have developed a solid day crew and are continuing to work on our coordination; however our Oceanic WvW player base is still pretty sparse. We could definitely use some reinforcements there.
While logging on in the morning to find alot of areas to recapture is fun, losing so many points overnight is not something that we can afford when we move up to higher tiers.
So, if you are interested in joining our server, you would be greatly appreciated and welcomed with open arms!
If you would like to speak to someone about it first, i am sure Banjo, Manoa or myself would be more than willing to answer some questions.

That was a fun little fight. The back and forth was enjoyable.

These kinda things make me laugh. Downtime according to who?
In NA alone timezones span between UTC – 5 and UTC – 10 …. a 5 hours diff. (not including Alaska… )
Then you have to accommodate 3rd shift NA players. Why should they not get to play WvW?
What if your active time happens to fall into the official server downtime? If you are raging now, i imagine it would be worse if this happened. The idea of shutting WvW down at X time needs to just die already….
He’s talking about the downtime this morning EU time where all ANet services were down.
Site, servers, you name it it was down. It was scheduled maintenance. On one hand, it kinda makes me laugh that happened, on the other hand it’s kinda like “…they didn’t freeze stuff? really?”
Ahhh, my bad. I thought it was another rant about 3rd shift people taking control of the map while others sleep.
I keep seeing that come up over and over again, and it is ridiculous.
Ya, i cant understand why they wouldnt freeze scores for maintenance.

I think the whole ranking system should go away, and we should set up a “season” system where everyone plays everyone else a few times, match-ups change every single week, the wins and losses are totaled, and a score is arrived at based on the quality of your wins and losses. Server rewards should be based on current score, and after each season, it should reset. This rankings system just leads to people feeling superior for no reason.
Wouldn’t this just result in “T8” servers getting destroyed by lots of different servers week after week?
If everyone plays everyone, “T1” servers would almost always win, “T8” servers would almost always lose. It might be good from an accurate rating perspective, but it would make WvW unfun 90% of the time. It would just be blowout after blowout after blowout…
I agree with this.
I briefly debated a season mechanic as well, but came to the same conclusion.
It would be worse than the rating reset that Anet planned, because the lower servers would have to constantly get thrown into unbalanced match ups ever couple of months.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Earlier this week Mos.millenium had SF score as going down. Even after we stomped ET/FC.
Yesterday, Anet posted the official scores and had SF score going up by 56 points.
Now, mos.millenium shows SF as going up by 56 points as well.
Does this mean Anet is actually doing something to balance things out?
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
God NO.
There is already an issue with spies and such from enemy servers, imagine how many people would boost kills in some small corner of a map?
Way too much potential for abuse, and not a good mechanic to add to a WvW game type. This should just be in PvP.
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
Not really going to read this whole post, but wanted to come here to point something out.
If FC and ET ally against SF to try to win this week, all you do is keep all 3 servers in the same tier for another several weeks.
Why not just play as normal, and let things balance out naturally? Maybe you guys will have better luck against HoD or whatever other server comes down here.
Just sayin……………………………………….
Kesshin [Shin] guild leader
It is nice that Anet listened to all the people who complained that the ranking were reset, but…………..It really does feel like they arent planning things out on their end.
Sure, you need to see how things go after the free transfers were removed and populations settled down a bit. However, why wouldnt you wait for that before doing a reset in the first place?
