Just a few tips for your future PvP runs.
Scrapper is a lot about combos. Learn those and apply accordingly to the situations.
Hammer auto-attacks stack might (for each target you land your hit to), so you can get serious dps increase just by doing it.

All hammer skills might be used both offensively and defensively:

• Electro whirl provides very decent damage and reflects projectiles.
• Rocket chrage might be used both to chase\to disengage
• Shock shield blocks all incoming attacks (still beware of revenants), but beside that does decent damage and applies 10% vulnerability (!!!), so you might want to use it before your main burst.
• Thunderclap dazes, does some damage and it is electro field. Same good for offensive & defensive goals. I even remember myself saving downed opponent in horrible 1 vs 3 situation by “Thunderclap + Toss Elixir X” combination.

Acid bomb of elixir gun is also great for retreating + does solid damage and provides blast combo finisher.

Switch between Adaptive Armor and Final Salvo trait depending on composition of opposing team.

Beware of using elixir B if you are fighting necromancers.

Something else I can’t remember right now.

Nobody says “Hi everyone!” at the start.

Nobody types “GLHF” into the mapchat before the match starts.

Nobody says “Just focus on 2 points, don’t push far!”

Nobody is jumping around the spawn area.

Nobody is running DH.

If anyone does any of the above during the start of the match, I have a 90% chance of losing.

Some of you guys are being too categorical.
Focusing warrior isn’t always bad choice, same as pushing far isn’t always wrong decision and having dragonhunter doesn’t always ruin the team composition.

Leave this formulaic thinking, most of the things correlate with current state of match\separate skirmish.

I’ve come to an interesting conclusion.
From my personal experience, matchmaking works quite well when it comes to queueing in premades and not really when it come to solo queueing. Seriously, after I teamed up with some nice guys I started getting very good, competetive matches (mostly against premades like us, not full random teams), and I do not mean only winning, there were looses, very intense & interesting looses as well, except for the very few matches. And just I got back to solo que – guses what ? Three blowouts in a row when I could stay afk entire game and we would still win.

I don’t know, maybe somebody else feels the same…

In theory – yes, but on practise it is far from being so.
I was also very sceptic about all those comments about matchmaking in this season, but understood what folks were talking about when started actually playing. I had 3-4 quite close matches in the beginning and was like “wowie wow wow, S3 mathcmaking looks great”, but then the endless blowout mathces era have come. Seriously, I haven’t had a good competetive match from the day one I think. And I’m not on loosing streak or something, it just doesn’t feel good even when my team wins.
I still hope something will change in upper divisions, but for some reasons theory and reality of current matchmaking are two completely different things.

Recently, I was attempting to cap an empty far when 3 of them show up after defeating my team at Mid. They down me then all take off at once leaving me on the spot to rally and cap the point.

Strangest thing I ever saw.

This kind of things happened to me multiple times in 2nd season of ranked arenas, when I was running scrapper with sneak gyro. Some people simply don’t bother with stomping, prefering to walk away like a bauss.

I remember mesmers, who moa’d me just to focus fire on my full health teammate.
I remember awesome downstate fights on points.
I also remember thieves, committing suicide over & over, going like 1 vs. 3 or 4.

Well, I didn’t say “I like to lose”, of course I don’t. I myself always reroll and do anything that could help my team to win. But still, victory isn’t the only prime goal. At least for some people.

I could understand this kind of attitude if we were talking about some groovy tournament with high rewards or ESL pro stuff, but c’mon, it’s not the case.

The things that topic starter mentioned in his posts are very relevant actually. And I’m talking not only about the thieves.
There are so many arrogant, toxic players (especially on ranked arenas)… Funny thing is that usually they are the most useless members of team that basically cause the defeat.

And it’s not about being\not being adult. If you like to play in company of jerks and kittens just to get another victory – go ahead, but not everyone are like that. Some people prefer to loose the match, but get some fun rather than win the match with poker face while being covered in someone’s bullkitten.

It’s ok to be a bad player, but it’s not ok to be a jerk and kitten.
Some people simply need to think about it.

So here is the 1-week followup to collect some data. If you can supply some quick information, that would be great:

1) Day you started ranked league (e.g., last Tuesday was day 1)
2) Your division.
3) Is your win-rate below 50%?
4) Stuck, or are you advancing?
5) Are you experiencing huge loss-streaks?
6) Are you continuing to play in Ranked?

1. I’m not sure, but I think it was day 2 or 3 when I joined ranked arena for the first time.
2. Currently I’m in 1st tier of ruby division.
3. No, it isn’t. Before reaching sapphire I had like 80-90% win rate, but since I moved to 3rd division matches became way more hard, so it was about 60-75%.
4. Yes. Though haven’t played single ruby game yet, but was advancing before.
5. No, I don’t. Longest loss-streak that I had was 3 matches in a row and it was only once.
6. Yes, of course. I’m having a lot of fun there, getting very interesting and intense games.

And here’s one more tip for soloqueuers.
Get three professions ready for pvp so you can easily switch between them. Make them so they are able to take different roles. For example, a power-rev, a scrapper and an aurahealer. PRACTICE with those three in hotjoin/unranked until you know exactly which skill to use when and what is your hardcounter so you can avoid it.
THIS is absolutely necessary when you play soloqueue, and it will make the difference between winning and loosing when you are able to switch to aurahealer because your team is lacking support etc. As a bonus… this way you get your 3 profession wins achievements easily.

And I generally agree with this post, especially since I’m in the exact same situation (in the middle of sapphire, alternating victories and defeats – first two tiers were very easy for me by the way, only in sapphire I could feel the new level of my opposition).

And you know wha ? It’s kitten great, so many awesome matches I had since moved to division 3.

You know wha ? Neither I’m going with fantastic win streak nor I have depressing lose streak – most of my matches were quite close and competetive and consequently enjoyable. Most of them. And no, I’m not running necromancer.

But I can feel the difference between unranked and ranked games.
