High level fotm question

I’m at level 41 and I run full zerker and healing shouts. Agony is %hp damage, and heals are (fairly) static. Tbh, one of the better builds you can run is clerics gear with healing shouts. You get power and healing power to help scale up your heals a little and not lose too much power.

Running tank build is a bad idea just because you have tons of hp and no way to heal it. 31k hp and your heals do what, 6-7k? Bad. Take it from guardians, with their 15k hp pool and massive heals and regen, that’s the way to survive later fractals. Obviously i’m assuming you know to dodge the agony.

Higher level fractals, you can’t stand toe to toe with them. For 1 thing, the number of mobs you encounter gets ridiculous. Secondly, the hp and damage of those mobs also goes way up. As was previously mentioned, agony (being a %hp dot) hurts vit builds more (as healing isn’t %hp, but instead a [mostly] static amount). As a warrior myself, I can’t survive agony ticks as well as most other classes as warriors are pretty gimped on burst heals.

That said, warriors and guardians are definitely the top PvE classes. If you’re looking for pretty much any dungeon besides fractals, p/v/t is golden. For fractals though, you could do a shout build with full clerics gear. It’s about 2k heal per shout, 3 shouts. If you run soldier runes you can dump mending heal and get the healing surge (fills adrenaline and gives more heal bang for your buck). http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mMR9oMRNamMRNam9Mxx9cqzRb08070V7kNc70V8of2

I personally run (http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mMRzco0MzmRNamMRNnmGaax0VaoVzRb8khA7kii7khA7070M7kGU70V8ofY) but keep a longbow, sword and warhorn in my backpack for the various situations you encounter. The longbow AOE (and range with Tactics IV) I find to be so crucial sometimes (grawl elementals/ascalon adds and boss). It really is up to you.

One of my party members got a Vial from a jade colossus on either the 28 or 30 daily I did post-reset as well. I don’t mind though, i’d be happy to see the vials and globs reinstated.

Also as it is now you are basically punishing anyone that isn’t fractal level 20+ with the price of the NON INFUSED rings. Are you guys scared we are going to NPC sell them for a whopping FOUR silver or something? Non infused rings should cost a MAX of 2 of the new relics, 10 for infused rings. (I’m STILL of the opinion that you should have been able to just pick 1 ring from every daily, and it should have been, Rings for level 10, earrings for level 20, and a necklace for level 30, and they should ALL be infused since that’s the entire point of having them in the game at all! I guess I have more forethought tho…) Also, give us the ability to trade rings we DON’T want for rings we DO want!

I haven’t actually run a daily in the 1-9 range, so I don’t know, but if pristine relics drop there, and in the 10-19, 5 days of dailies and you’ve got a non-infused ring. If you’re running 1-9 dailies and 10-19 dailies for pristine relics, chances are you’ll get a vial or glob here or there over those 5 days, so you’ll be well on your way to an infused ring. I strongly disagree with your assertion that basically non-infused and infused rings should all but be laying on the ground. I appreciate that they aren’t super duper common. I really don’t have a problem with the method to get them as it stands now. That said, I disagree with the removal of vials from 10+ and globs from 20+. As Alucard mentioned, being able to break down shards into globs and globs into vials makes sense. Also, purchasing shards/globs/vials from a vendor for relics makes sense to me as well.

It’s not all bad tho, I’m glad to see cliffside taken out of such heavy rotation! It was beginning to feel like “Fractal of the Cliffside” for awhile there! Personally I would like to see an extra 15-30 seconds added to the timer of the swamp. As a guildwars 1 player the charr fractal annoys me, besides the lore aspect the charr model’s just run weird, if I wanted to play a charr, I would have rolled a charr. Overall tho I’m pretty happy with fractals, well not so much with the unavoidable jade maw agony and that somehow “more mod hp/dmg = harder” aspects, but overall they aren’t bad.

Swamp timer is just fine. It’s tight for the further wisps , but completely doable. If teams are unable to complete it with the current timer, they need to figure out different strategies, figure out where the traps are, get familiar with the map, etc. It’s a player skill failure, nothing more.

As for the Ascalon fractal, I really like it. I did roll a charr, but i’ve been transformed into a human for things like transformation potions and the like, and I don’t mind it. I like the fact that it’s different, it’s new, fresh, and what it means for possibilities in the future. I think I read somewhere that someone was hopeful for a Primordius/Asura siege type fractal. That sounds really awesome and exciting, and I would expect nothing less than being turned into an asuran! I rolled charr, but I don’t mind getting a flavor of something different for a few minutes of a fractal.

As a player that enjoys fractals a lot, I wanted to add that I appreciate the effort and fixes you guys have done. Cliffside was a….chore, to say the least, in the past and having run it twice now on 28 and then 30 for dailies, it seems solidly fixed and working properly, like it did originally when it was released (before I knew about the aoe seal glitch).

One of my running buddies upgraded an ascended ring to its infused version through the MF as well, and that’s really neat. However, i’m slightly concerned as the cost is 5 vials, 3 globs, and 1 shard, plus the ring. The cost itself isn’t a big deal, but in combination with the removal of vials from 10+ and globs from 20+, and the fact that shards/globs/vials already have a very low droprate (one of my running buddies with over 400 fractals completed got his first shard yesterday), I am concerned i’ll end up having to grind the 9- fractals for a length period of time just to get some more vials if I want to, say, create an infused Lunaria and Solaria. I can see if this is possibly a technique to get more players into the lower level fractals to help out late-comers to the fractal game. Nonetheless, if the drop rate wasn’t buffed considerably for vials/globs/shards, I can see this becoming it’s own form of an RNG gating mechanism that people will whine about.

So a question (I have three for this post actually) is: Why were the vials and globs removed from the droptables of the higher level fractals instead of an across the board increase in drop rate? It seems like it’s at odds with the two ideas I see (getting more people into lower level fractals and helping people get through the tier (10/20/30) gates).

Second question would be: I read that you guys were looking into, and were unhappy with, the current upgrade costs of things like backpieces and infusions. I’m really quick excited about what you guys did with the T6 mat prices and 1-2 from bags (I save up my dredge bags til I get a stack and open all at once, love the dredge loot, please don’t nerf it), however I went to upgrade my relic backpiece and noticed that it’s still 250 ectos, which is disheartening to say the least.

Why would you decrease the T6 mat costs for upgrading ascended gear/infusions, but then leave the most expensive component (ectos) at the full stack limit? I feel 100 ectos for the 2nd upgrade and then another 100 to make it super glowy and epic to be far more reasonable.

Last question: I participated eagerly in the fractals the day they were released. In the beginning, I was getting upwards of a dozen rares per run in those level 1-5 runs. This was addressed as an error, and nerfed, understandably. In the patch notes yesterday, the loot was claimed to be updated so higher level fractals would drop loot more accurately appropriate for the scale of difficulty. I ran a 28 daily and then a 30 daily (8 fractals, got cliffside twice, dredge, swamp, underwater, and svanir). The svanir and swamp and very low on lootable mobs (most skip the three groups of svanir hunters between the now named blizzard causing elemental and final boss, and only the summoned dogs drop loot when lighting the fire to get through the ice wall). However, the cliffside drops loot decently, underwater mass krait also drops a fair bit of loot, and ofc the dredge loot (at 30). I killed all the mobs on the jade maw fractal both times and in total for those 8 runs I got 1 yellow item, 0 exotics, and 2 cores (chests, including jade maw, and back pieces, and vile/putrid essences all factored in). No rings or skins from the dailies either (which is ok, I understand those are still low drop rates, one of the guys I ran w/ got a spear skin (nice skin btw)).

Are the droptables properly configured for the higher level fractals? If so, in your experience, did I just get two very poor rng runs back to back? Or are the lower level fractals supposed to get 0 rares (if i’m getting 1 in 8 fractals, I pity those playing the level 1-20 scales)?

tl:dr
Compliments followed by 3 Q’s.
Why were the vials and globs removed from the droptables of the higher level fractals instead of an across the board increase in drop rate?
Why would you decrease the T6 mat costs for upgrading ascended gear/infusions, but then leave the most expensive component (ectos) at the full stack limit?

When do I get Ascended rings?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: White.6193

White.6193

At 250 fractals completed myself. Got two rings early on, then when I got to level 20, got two infused rings on my 2nd and 3rd dailies. Two weeks later running 10 and 20 dailies every day, I just got my 5th ring total. It’s RNG. Not ideal by any means, but if you’ve only run like 10 dailies and haven’t gotten a ring, there’s really no reason to whine, you haven’t run many at all. Don’t even need any resist until level 20 anyway, just learn the animations and mechanics and you’ll be fine.

So, my group completed this last night. It’s very unfortunate (yet seemingly a trend) that Anet fixed the only really viable way to kill her (dps her down while she’s invis to counter healing) by making her invuln while invis now. The problem I have is that while they fixed what seems to have been a bug (still taking damage while invis), they didn’t fix the unbelievably buggy and broken spark on pad detection coding. 9/10 times you’ll get 4 of the 5 sparks all locked in and then the last spark will just chase you around the pillar as you try and kite it into a pad, until a minute is up and Simen is uncloaked at 75-100% hp. It’s a shame.

Anet, fix the spark on pad detection coding so you can bring all 5 sparks on and they’ll be detected instead of floating on top of all of the pads numerous times without being noticed by the game mechanics. Thanks.

Fractals - ascended ring drop rate?

Took about a week for me to get my first ring, got a second the same day (reset). When I got up to 20, got an infused ring on first and second try (total of 4 rings) and haven’t gotten any rings (or weps from 20) from either daily for about a week now (14 daily chests). It’s a fickle thing indeed. Fortunately I was frontloaded.

Swamp is the best fractal

Bruno, it’s very doable. While I am certainly no expert on the swamp, just taking some time out and wandering around the map to see the traps and the routine and where all the possible entrances are, exploring the thing, really have helped me. I’m only at level 9 as i’ve been helping guildies get their levels but i’ve got over 70 completed fractals and feel that the swamp one is one of the more exciting ones. It’s never the same thing twice, which is refreshing when some of the fractals start feeling a bit repetitious.

The amount of whining and garbage from ‘normal’ (laughable to call themselves that) players is completely out of control. There’re a few simple facts that you super self-entitled players need to wrap your heads around.

1) You purchased a game and got it as-is. What you purchased was what you got. The event this last weekend where a very small fraction of players got a precursor and everyone got exotics was NOT guaranteed to you by any means whatsoever when you purchased this game. It’s not owed to you. Period. You got what you paid for, everything else is EXTRA, not deserved.

2) Fractals of the Mists is a single dungeon. All of the other ones are still around and perfectly viable. They didn’t somehow disappear or wander off or get closed or anything like that. Go play them and have fun. If they were fun before, but are no longer fun for you now, even though they haven’t changed, then the problem lies with you and your perceptions, not with the game.

2a) I play in Stormbluff Isle, one of the larger servers, and I see groups looking for levels 1-3 in fractals in every LA shard I end up in. It’s nonstop. If you aren’t seeing the same, I imagine it’s because either your server is smaller, you’re on at ‘off-peak’ hours, or you’re just not giving it any time at all. If you can’t find a group, try and pop into another shard, try being proactive instead of passively whining and moaning on the forums.

3) I played Maplestory (Nexon’s premier game before Vindictus) for a while, was one of the very top players in my server, and am quite familiar with the Nexon model of business, and I can tell you first hand that GW2 doesn’t play the same, at all. Go take a look in the cash shop and tell me how many items in there are only purchaseable via real cash and give anyone any statistical advantage over other players. Moreover, you can buy gems with in game currency. Last part on this point, Nexon bought 15%, not 51%. 15% is no small deal, but it certainly isn’t some 100% vice-grip that a vocal minority (but boy are they obnoxiously loud) of chicken little’s seem to think it is.

tldr; OP and the other whiners need to grow up. You paid for the game and have gotten WAY WAY WAY more than you paid for. You don’t deserve anything extra, you aren’t entitled to it.

T’was a mockery. With all of our glitchy traits, completely underwhelming combat, basement level skill ceiling for most weapons, and we get combo finishers and proper icons. Oooooh, Aaaaaah. What a joke. When there’s blatently broken stuff to fix, please focus on that. I’ll take a fixed trait over slightly inaccurate and very irrelevant (for anyone that’s used the skill/trait a few times) descriptions and icons.

Hammer/Rifle advice.

White.6193

As a hammer warrior, I can tell you flat out that hammers are a complete blast. Especially if you tack leg specialist on as well. ‘3’ for hammers radiates out this cone of cripple that’ll also hit for a 1 second immobilize. I’ll usually use my burst skill into a zerg, drop my ‘3’ skill, then combo in with ‘4’ and run back out before dying. Hammer doesn’t seem to have the 3 mob cap on aoe for some of the skills, so you’ll end up smashing and throwing people around like nothing in zergs.

If you’re just in a group of maybe 5-10 friends and you’re running around capping supply camps and picking off enemy stragglers, the pure CC of the hammer (esp if you have a gs or sword+warhorn secondary) means basically no one can escape.

Only gripe I have with the hammer: Weak and slow. I understand there needs to be a trade off though. If hammers hit hard like the gs, warriors would easily become one of the quintessential characters in zergs. 10 warriors with hammers can turn the tide of a battle very very effectively.

Nonetheless, I can always wish that hammers will get a damage and speed buff, they do need it truthfully.

I’m running an i7, 8gb ram, amd radeon HD 7770 2gb dedicated ram rig, and I routinely find myself surrounded by an invisible zerg that only loads up on my screen after it’s too late for me to escape. Those of you saying you don’t experience this issue, congratulations, but you are far and away the significant minority.

11/9 Sigh SBI vs. BG vs. JQ again....

White.6193

I can only imagine how angry JQ is at tonights puzzle camping marathon on EB. My guild held it against a zerg of 60 JQ (some camping entrance…some trying to get the top of beast room cleared). Pretty hilarious considering we did it for 2 hours with only 10 players.

Just rubbing it in now ;p

Camping the JP is easy, its not an accomplishment to do it. Plus spending 2 hours camping JP is just sad in itself to even be bragging about lol

Why? It was fun, I had an absolute blast. I don’t know about you, but I play this game to have fun, which I had (a great deal of).

Before you say it’s not helping the server to camp the jp, think about it like this: 10 (actually less, maybe 7) SBI guys denied 50+ JQ their jp chest for hours. Let’s put that in perspective, less JQ free siege weaponry, and a few hours of JQ time where they were stuck and not out on the battlefield fighting. 7 guys for 2 hours is 14 man hours of fighting, 50 JQ for 2 hours is 100 man hours of fighting. I’d say we came out on top of that.

And just in case you are so uninformed, JQ looooves their jp. There was never a single moment where we weren’t chasing and killing off JQ guys. In two hours, never a moment, not a single instant where we weren’t firing the balista/catapults/arrow carts and charging into the masses of JQ. We weren’t sitting around twiddling our thumbs, we were raking in the badges (I came out with 55 at the end of the night excluding chest).

I salute you JQ guys though, I get pissed off and bail on the jp after dying a few times but you guys were dogged in your determination and persistence. Far more than I have been in your spot. Cheers!
