handicap players need a gamepad options

From my time playing around with Xpadder, there are 3 things I see needing to be implemented for gamepad support to be viable.
1. “Look Up” and “Look Down” – as of now, tilting the camera up and down requires mouse dragging, it would be nice if keys could be mapped to that.
2. A way to navigate menus/inventory.
3. Improved ground targeting, although the recent changes to quick cast help tremendously.

Other issues may include:
- Not being able to type (quickly without a keyboard).
- The engine doesn’t take advantage of analogue input (even when mapped to a controller, can still only walk in the 8 cardinal directions). This would be a pretty significant change.

Overall, I’d love to see controller support (dream: running GW2 on a Steam Machine), but I also recognize that there’s a lot of work to be done to make it happen.

Wallet for Convenience Consumables

I noticed the other day that I was sitting on a stack of something like 20 convenience items (Instant Repair Canisters, Boosters, Revive Orbs, etc). I don’t use them immediately because “I might need them later” and I don’t keep them in my inventory to use when I need them because “I might need them on an alt”. As such, the collect dust and occupy space in my bank.

I think it would be even more convenient if these types of items also were stored in a way that all characters on an account could use them instead of only the character with the item in their inventory.

Aside from color… I don’t really notice any of the details of any player characters in the world. I like customizing characters as much as the next guy, but in this context we wouldn’t even be able to look at our customizations.

Trait system - Worst part of the game

I’m not convinced there needs to be this extensive of a rework to address the problem of some trait bonuses not feeling impactful enough. I’m not saying everything is perfect the way it is, but I do feel like throwing out everything for something entirely new is a little bit of an overreaction.

From my understanding of game design, packaging the trait bonuses and attribute gains is actually a way of encouraging variety.

Given the way that attributes work, the objectively best way to output large amounts of direct damage is Power + Precision + Critical Damage (Berserker). Objectively, the best way to not die is Vitality + Toughness + Healing Power (no existing combo). Letting players choose which attributes to increase wouldn’t solve the problem of everyone going Berserker. Berserker would still be be the best way to output direct damage.

In fact, this may lead to even less build diversity since every class now has access to directly building Berserker. Packaging the stats together instead of just allowing the player pick what they want forces the player to think about trade offs.

While I definitely agree that some of the trait bonuses feel lackluster (and a list of which ones those are would be a very useful thing for Anet), separating traits like this doesn’t solve the issue, it just lets players ignore the less powerful traits.

It might be pretty difficult to get a translator going in a typo heavy environment (game chat).

The thing is New Krytan is english in a different font so typo’s won’t be a problem

Huh, I wonder how they localize for different languages that use the same characters? Does New Krytan have its own dictionary?

The /deaths prefix

I could understand not wanting to use a feature like that, but it wouldn’t really be fair to remove it since there are people who enjoy using it.

I know people who like to know that sort of stuff about their characters. It makes the game more fun for them to be able to know how well they are doing on a specific character.

Adjusting Tequatl Timers

The biggest problem I had with Teq was learning how to fight it. The first few times I did the fight, I didn’t really have any idea of what was going on. Between Teq’s Fingers, maintaining and encouraging proper use of Hylek Turrets, teaching people to waypoint on death (myself included), jumping the waves and the notion that there would be some trick to it to make it harder, I couldn’t quite figure out what the best thing to do was.

It was only after a few fights with much fewer people that I could get a better idea of what was going on (very much linked to my actually getting onto one of the Turrets and being able to read the skill descriptions). The concept of keeping people on the turrets and the fingers to enable others to just deal damage isn’t that complicated, but the chaos did make it pretty difficult to figure out in the 15 minute slots that we got.

It would have been nice to have some way to learn about how to do the fight besides reading guides online and just trying the fight multiple times. Being able to use the turrets when not fighting Teq was great, some of the other mechanics like Teq’s scales and jumping the waves weren’t as easy to prepare for.

I’m a little confused. Are you asking for a new font or a system that translates text?

It might be pretty difficult to get a translator going in a typo heavy environment (game chat).

Populate other cities

I think Lion’s Arch sees a lot of traffic because people use it as a place to hang out while they wait for their group to organize. The other cities are a little harder to use for that function, not only because their services are a little less conveniently placed (although I’d definitely agree on that point), but also because they’re less centralized.

Especially at lower levels, where people don’t have the full world explored yet, it can be pretty inconvenient having to travel the world to meet up with friends. It makes sense that if my Sylvari is meeting my friend’s Charr that instead of meeting up in the Grove or Black Citadel, that we’d both go halfway and meet in Lion’s Arch.

Personally, I like the idea of being able to redo Renown Hearts more because it’d let me join my friends who are completing hearts that I’ve already done.

Even though it was really fun the to finish up the hearts the first time, I think exploring new content is even more fun than higher difficulty versions of content I’ve already completed.

And with Living World, there’s always new content being added to the game. So maybe this suggestion is less about not having things to do and more about adding replay value to of different types of content, including those without the large group style of Living World content.

Report Fall Damage as Health %

Because level adjustment is often changing maximum HP, learning how far one can fall for how much damage (especially if that damage is >100% of health) can be a little harder. Stating damage as a percent of the players max health may be more intuitive (-30% rather than -300 HP).
