I appreciate the need to change the animation to deal with the cancel-casting, and I can’t say much about the other races animation or the DPS change (though it does seem to feel slower, but i’ve not tested it).

What I can say however is that the female human axe animation right now is just… not good. The old animation was very nice; dynamic and fast – it looked really good and I loved playing it. Now it just looks clunky, slow and ridiculous.

That so many people thought it was a bug and not a genuine animation change should be testament to how bad this new animation is (on human females, at least).

The relevant part to this thread being:

“The ‘common’ language, while generally being a game mechanic that makes the most sense, DOES have a piece in the lore. In the previous cycles of dragons eradicating species in the past, there was an incident, led by Glint, when she saved portions of several species in her small haven, she was able to communicate telepathically with them, but they all had different languages and couldn’t speak to each other. When that attack ended, the surviving people banded together in a ‘maybe we can win if we can talk to eachother.’ Some races were too proud to do so, and not enough banded together to take down the dragons. Hence the few remaining fragments of those species are the few that spoke common and found ways to survive, even if they weren’t the majority of their race.”

I’m not going to make any claims of credibility or reliability to this mind. I’m just posting it. Don’t shoot the messenger etc etc.

I have this same problem, noticing it mostly in Edge of the Mists as well. Sometimes I can get it to work again by strafing, but just as often it doesn’t work.

Less frequently i’ve also gotten this problem with the necro staff auto-attack. Makes me a very sad necromancer.

I’ve had this as well, started for me on Saturday (9th) after about midday. Primarily it was in Divinity’s Reach around the bank/TP area, where I had a serious crash five or six times in the space of an hour from just standing around doing nothing – in comparison to having been able to do a full AC run just before it. I’ve not gone back to DR yet to test (though I did just get one in Kessex, first time since Saturday).

From my own asking around i’ve been told that it’s a memory issue of some kind, a memory leak? That in a recent patch Anet accidentally changed how the game handles loading and unloading characters/models. Meaning that they could possibly not remove the occupied memory at all. Eventually it leads to the memory being full and so the process crashes.

Though I know nothing about PC and tech stuff so that’s just a copy-and-paste of what i’ve been told. Either way it’s really annoying.

Necromancy and the Sylvari

  1. There are some cases – such as the Daithor the Drill event chain in NE Kessex Hills – that imply that they still are made from flesh and bones. I’ve also seen players comment about Trahearne saying he summoned his minions from the Mists? Though I don’t recall this so take it with very loosely. Magic has overall become far more powerful than in GW1, so I wouldn’t expect it to be the same. But typically I view it as summoning the bodies deep in the ground. However, I’d say this is pure mechanic – one of the biggest downsides of playing a minion master in GW1 was that you couldn’t get your little fleshy army up until the battle was more or less done, and they often died of degeneration before the next battle.

I think what everyone refers to in regards to Trahearne and his undead is the line from the personal story mission ‘Reconnaissance’ where Trahearne states that his minions are unable to be corrupted by Zhaitan because they were never alive to begin with which begs the question of where they’re coming from. I suppose you could argue there’s something to be had in the minions (at least for the skill Bone Minions) popping up out of a black well-like circle.

At the least I don’t think it’s implausible for necromancy to have advanced to the point where the flesh and bone needed for a minion can be created from magic itself when there is no corpse available.

Just realized I will also have to use the ugly witch hat if I want to use my Witches outfit, guess I won’t be dressing up for Halloween anymore

That’s another thing alongside the town clothes-to-tonics issue.

Why are the costumes all becoming one whole set? I rather like having my character’s face and hair visible (I also like to pair the witch outfit up with the bunny ears), and this wasn’t a problem in GW1. Let me keep my bunny-earred witch please!

Turning town clothes into individual tonics is a terrible idea and one that I’m opposed to. It would be a much better idea to just let us have the town clothes over the armor like with the costumes, and I wonder what on earth was going through the developers heads when they decided to scrap them (and therefore the choice of customisation by mix and matching pieces).

Don’t turn them into tonics. Keep them as individual pieces to wear!

I noticed the option to buy Elegant and Savage back banner skins from glory vendors (or at least from glory vendors rank 1, 10 and 20) is no longer available. Has the way to obtain these two back skins changed or is this a bug?

I do agree with this. Rank as a number and supposed show of “look how good I am/how much I’ve grinded” can go, but keep rank emote progression in the game. Don’t just turn that off.

I really liked the blog post overall. The upcoming changes to PvP Match Rewards, the achievements, the universal gear, the Gold replacing Glory change. These are all good things for GW2 PvP.

Where I stumbled on however was the removal of the rank in favour of ladders. I understand why dedicated PvPers are in favour of ladders, and I certainly think its implementation is a good thing, however as a more casual PvPer who doesn’t spend really more than than five or six hours a week in PvP (combined time of both hotjoin and Solo tPvP) ladders will be useless to me. I’m not going to be able to put in the time to go up the ladders so will likely remain at the bottom, whilst no longer advancing slowly up a personal rank system. I liked slowly filling my purple bar until I get to the next rank tier with a new shiny emote.

Honestly, I don’t see the harm in keeping the personal rank system. I thought it was kind of cool. As I’ve seen staff from arenanet say in response to other people they’re thinking of adding other things that reward in lifetime play instead of rank which is certainly something at least, i’m just worried it will differ to greatly with rank as a personal thing is now whilst i’m punished for my more casual way of playing PvP in the ladder system. And I am NOT saying I should be given the same rewards as the people who put in hours and hours of game play – not at all – i’m just worried that the time I will put in will be disproportionately rewarded.

I don’t want to be rewarded for how much I play and win in a ladder season. I want to be rewarded for my overall PvP progression.

It’s because they don’t want you to run in this tonic all the time. The fact that you can fight in it for 5 minutes is a tremendous bonus and is enough of a benefit to offset the cooldown timer.

After this event is over people won’t even bother complaining about this minor issue.

After this event is people won’t even bother using the tonic. It will end up being forgotten about, I can guarantee it.

I agree with the points raised above. The tonic needs a longer duration – endless whilst staying in the area/cooldown upon zoning out seems like a more than reasonable fix to be honest.

As it is with five minutes duration/25 minute cool downs, it’s basically useless and forgettable.

I found that because of the way the removal of culling is working – namely with those unattractive pink default models we’ve all seen in WvW – there are some unforeseen problems cropping up.

One is the whole weapons sheathed/not sheathed thing. I’ve been told this has something to do with the default basic models not having a sheathed mode so when people’s characters are put on top of said models their weapons are out (despite being sheathed for the specific players) and stay out until manually unsheathed and re-sheathed by the individual players.

Another one is continuous emotes such as /sit. My guild and I were all sitting around a campfire when i fell afoul of the meanie inactivity kick with no warning. Upon logging back in, everyone is standing on my screen despite not actually standing in the game itself.

I find this one the most foo. And im reasonably sure it has nothing to do with my laptop capabilities or my graphics settings (both the settings related to culling are on the “Highest” option).

I respect that these problems aren’t particularly… serious, but they are rather annoying – especially for roleplayers. If anything could be done to fix it so that other peoples characters are displayed accurately to other people I think it would be well appreciated!
