“The reiteration of the presence of the NPC being avoided brought to mind that we were being belittled for any thoughts that were not in favor of the NPC. From this I feel my opinion is completely unwanted. That it doesn’t matter. Because from there it will not be considered constructive.”

Yeah. Surprise. Your opinion, just like that of every other individual who thinks they should have creative control over the content someone else’s work or creative endeavor is belittled, ridiculed, and unwanted.

Amazingly Gaile’s post did none of those things. As for me, I’m just sad that you can’t take joy in other people really geeking out over this character – it wasn’t put in the game for you, or me for that matter, since for the most part I wouldn’t remember if the character had been Skritt, Norn, Hylek or Mordrem Thrasher pre-patch – I never notice this stuff. In fact, one of the most enjoyable things for me is watching other people geek out and have fun with this kind of stuff, I’m a jaded old fart and it doesn’t grab me the way it does others.

As for ‘agendas’ as it applies to other people’s personal choices and autonomy – for the most part this is simply a way to externalize ‘I don’t like this because I think it’s icky’. Get over yourself, I don’t want to think about you in your bedroom either.

Thank you Anet for including this character, as well as the other occasional LGBT friendly content – it’s not for me, but as long as it’s well written I’ll enjoy it.

Personally I totally geeked out at the two kids playing Belinda and Kasemeer instead of Logan/Rytlock (I don’t remember what characters from Destiny’s Edge the kids in the original Lion’s arch were acting as). I laughed out loud at that the first time, and it still makes me smile every time.

necro commanders in WvW

He was the only one who posted regular videos, he was hardly the only one commanding well on one. As I’m completely out of the meta and builds, I can’t offer any advice other than as a commander you need to survive. Your job as a commander has nothing to do with dps, and all about driving. Mobility and the ability to survive are far more important than anything else. How you specialize depends on what you are commanding and how hardcore you and your guild are. Most likely you are going to want to be debuffing with weakness and blasting dark fields to reduce incoming dps, but ymmv.

It’s only 2 days into the match up and already learned that ebay are some pretty sore losers….already have like 5 people guesting to talk kitten in our lions arch, classy work fellas.

Would you do us the courtesy of assuming they do not speak on behalf of the server as a whole. I suspect I know the names several of the people who do this, most of which are professional trolls. AR would do this to us for weeks, it gets the non WvW population and PvC people all riled up, which is actually kind of amusing for the hardcore WvW people and trolls.

Kaineng, you people are rude. Interrupting my attempt to solo the SM keep lord is really not good manners. I dare say you should have given me a shot at taking him down before interrupting. Especially when considering that the quality of your sweeping is of such a level that you miss a necro it would seem to be the least you could do.

Also, props to the uplevel necro for giving a 1 on 1 a try on the third floor.

Umm… Friday karma trains are nothing new. Now they are of course Karma/wxp trains.

All you need is two servers who can’t be bothered defending and you can swap bls all day long. This was par for the course on a couple of servers a while back.

W.r.t. to the poster who said you can’t defend a point and get more for it than the attacker. Seriously? I’ll gladly trade wiping your zerg 5+ times in a 3 hour defense of our garrison to your 1 cap. In fact after about 15min of defending I will have more loot, and more wxp than you will get from the cap (I think it’s 9min before the defender wxp has ticked over, not counting kills, but my memory is crap and I can’t be bothered to check the numbers).

This was a stupid critique.

I don’t like the way content X plays therefore it is bad. Lots of people don’t like PvE, doesn’t make it bad. Lots of people don’t like sPvP, which doesn’t make that bad. Lots of people don’t like WvW, or dungeons or jumping puzzles. Not liking something does not make it bad.

In fact, fractals are one of the neatest things I’ve seen in the game narratively and mechanically. Narratively they fit the same niche as a short story or vignette and are really cool. Mechanically they challenge you as a team (at least initially and at higher levels) and require you to be competent at multiple aspects of the game. This is a good thing. If all you want to do is kill stuff, there are tons of places for you to go. Some people need different challenges, and it’s nice that the game provides for that.

I love how people want to substitute EZmode for actually having to do the work to beat skill and patience. Most people don’t have the patience to stealth for 10min while you wait for your team to get their act together, most people don’t have the skill to avoid detection from a half-hearted sweep, and most people haven’t spent the time looking at how to hide properly. If you can avoid a proper sweep you deserve the keep, because obviously someone missed a spot. Put in the work and thinking time and you won’t lose keeps to stealth teams.

I’ll probably make this point every time I think of posting here in one way or another: Your playstyle isn’t the only playstyle, and whether or not you like solo trolls, small unit tactics, zergbusting, PvDoor, or whatever, there is room for you in WvW, and at the same time you will upset someone who doesn’t like “that style of play”. Upset them and leave a flame ram on their corpse.

Trying to make rules substitute for social engineering is generally a bad idea in small communities. Especially rules that have easy troll capability. Train your pugs better.

If you want a legendary, you should participate in every aspect of the game, or you’re not qualified to own a spiffy item like that. Simple as that. Just be glad they didn’t actually make it something that required anything other than patience and the occasional bit of luck.

Also, even as someone who both enjoys WvW and PvE I can’t stand people asking for PoIs in WvW. Either go grab some rams and take it, or get your guild together for a WvW PoI raid night, that way you are helping the server instead of diverting the server’s resources for your own selfish ends, obviously if your PoI happens to coincide with the commander’s goals, feel free to provide the extra superior siege to make it all happen faster. I’m also sure that commanders are more than happy to help you take a target (if possible) in return for say a donation of superior siege (can’t ever have enough superior siege).

CD/SBI/SOS and pvp bots

This happened a couple of weeks ago on EB, when, iirc, we were playing DR. DR’s bots would head straight to the water and cap the quaggan nodes by continuously fighting Krait in the areas around the nodes. The solution is as with bots in PvE

1) Have as many people as possible report them directly. This can be hard, but being in the area, grabbing a screen and reporting works.
2) Bug report the area as bot infested. This is slower, but when combined with 1) it works pretty well.

because I really don’t care whether or not you find it fun, it’s not a relevant criteria for my actions —- I am after all not your free xp/loot/wxp, you need to work for it.

So they need to “work” for xp/loot/wxp, but you don’t. Hiding in a keep and fighting guards after everyone leaves isn’t hard work. Don’t kid yourself.

a) You deliberately misunderstand me or simply fail to understand. I’ll generously assume the former. I’m not going to make things easy for you, what you do for me is your business. Which brings me to the obvious: Part of the game is usually making it hard for the other team to acquire xp/loot/wxp/ppt. If you don’t want to play the denial part of the game, that’s fine, but the only thing that happens in that you make it easy for the opposition. It doesn’t have to be.

b) You don’t think hiding is hard, which just means that you haven’t tried hiding against a good active search or spent hours practicing to get good at it. Clearly it’s easy against you, because you aren’t good at playing that part of the game. It would also seem that like so many others you assume that whatever parts of the game you don’t enjoy or find annoying are easy and take no work and skill to achieve. You are of course wrong, a point which BP already has understood and has resulted in them trying to work on this aspect of their game. Just like EB as a server, and guilds on EB have decided to work on aspects of their game that are weak.

To give an example: I occasionally play a thief and mesmer, but I’m bad at hiding, I haven’t spent hours sussing out the best spots and the best movement patterns in the various towers and keeps. I am however above average at siege usage, but I’ve also spent hours practicing siege technique to the point where I can throw down trebs and catas in the correct orientation and often hit my target on the first shot. The only reason I can do that is that I studied under our good siege commanders, watched videos, and have spent hours trebbing and cataing targets. Work. I put in the hours.

The [Hax] team paid their dues, the fact that you missed a spot is because they are good at what they do and that you haven’t put in the work to beat them. If you don’t want to, that’s fine, but then you will have to live with losing things you just captured because you didn’t put in the effort necessary to keep it.

At what point will people realize that when they fail at a task most of the time it’s not because someone cheated, but that they themselves failed.

Sweeping well is difficult and requires a fair amount of dedication. And whether or not you find it fun is beside the point, because I really don’t care whether or not you find it fun, it’s not a relevant criteria for my actions —- I am after all not your free xp/loot/wxp, you need to work for it. Thus you can have your fun doing whatever you like doing, and we’ll have a blast recapping the keep, because, surprise, that’s fun for us.

Also, you might want to consider the amount of work and time that went into working on hiding spots, hiding strategies and hiding tactics. I’ll give BP credit, they figured out how much work went into it, and decided to counter that work with cash incentives and work of their own.

Is this fair?

As soon as you notice there are problems with the login server you need to tell players on your server not to switch maps and go on the defensive if you are down people. Obviously if people have to leave, they have to leave, but often just telling people that the login server is down and reinforcements/reaction switches aren’t available will ensure that things don’t go to an inquest test facility in a hand basket made from quaggan pelts.

No, I play this game because it doesn’t have a subscription fee. I would not even have started playing if it had a fee, there are too many good games out there that have no fee or always online requirement (I still haven’t played Witcher 2 for example) to bother with a game that wants me to pay for the privilege of playing beyond the initial purchase.. I’m happy to give them money for a) new content b) cosmetic stuff if I like it c) non-gameplay advantages or gameplay advantages that are available in-game but hard to get (xp boosts, BL-chest keys etc).

If the game is good I obviously will be more free with my cash, partly because of good will and partly because I’m not spending a lot of my gaming budget elsewhere. And if the game is bad I can leave and not have to worry about continuous CC charges or even CCs being tied to the account.

I’d bet that for [insert random number between 50 and 99 here] % of what everything people are claiming zoom hacks and cheating for, it’s just someone who has spent [insert arbitrarily large number here] hours playing WvW in their class who knows a) how to manipulate the camera as is, b) where to place siege so said camera can be manipulated, or c) knows their class inside and out as in every offensive use of ele skills shown in this thread.

If you think it’s a hack or glitch being exploited, report the person in question. If you don’t know how to play the game well enough to tell, you are probably better off asking the good players on your server how do replicate what you are seeing, or make some friends on an opposing server so you can practice.
