Additions to Material Storage

Hey Lindsey! Great list! And thanks for putting in all the hard work (twice).

I think Golden Fractal Relics should be added to the list for the same reason that chak eggs and reclaimed metal plats and unid fossils are on the list.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind if you eliminated everything from cooking materials and scribing and dowels because the player has the option to make (or not make) those in single unit increments. Even if it’s used cross profession and a player has different crafting professions and different characters (as I do), they can still craft the needed quantity and store it in the bank, to be used directly from the bank, on character swap.

Hello VoS, I’m looking for a raid group that meets regularly preferably on Wednesdays about half an hour after reset. I only have a little experience in raids and mostly with wing 1, but I am very committed and open to learning and reading guides. Although I am still learning raids, I am very familiar with the mechanics of the game and my class and have played a lot of fractals and competed in dungeon speed clear tournaments in the past. I also have all three ascended armor and trinket sets ready and the resource to switch to any stat prefix required. If your group decides to resume recruitment and are willing to take on a new but committed member, please contact me. My IGN is Wonders Frostfire.

What's Missing from Material Storage?

First of all, I want to thank you for holding this discussion with the community and for your wisdom on imposing certain guidelines. I know that placing restrictions is often thankless, so I want to express my appreciation for your decision to deliberately NOT include things in material storage such as every crafted component, boosters, legendary gifts, etc.

Please allow me to give my reasoning for what should (and equally important, shouldn’t) be included as well as some suggestions. I feel items must be used for crafting, either mystic forge or crafting professions, in order to even qualify. Crafting items sold by vendors at set quantities but often have leftover when used are good candidate (e.g. philosopher’s stones, but NOT Anthology of Heroes). Crafting materials that are thrown at us in mass quantities are good candidate (+1 agony infusions). And finally, materials generated through crafting and harvesting seem to be sensible inclusions (e.g. blade shards, as you’ve already conceded). With that said, here are my suggestions, in order of urgency:

essences of luck
philosopher’s stones, mystic crystals
tenebrous crystals, shimmering crystals
bloodstone rubies, petrified wood
chak eggs, reclaimed metal plates
doubloons of all levels
crystalline bottles, milling basins
*major and minor vision crystals

*I know these are crafted items, but they’re also thrown at us by Mawdrey II, etc. and as rewards through various aspects of the game

queue pop shouldn't freeze screen

There have been a number of times where the queue pops and I have something else in the UI covering the pop. You’d think I’d catch on by now but it always catches me off guard, and I’m sitting there confused as to why my camera won’t move and why I can’t exit whatever screen I’m looking at (which happens to be hiding the queue pop) with the escape button. Then I get dishonor and I realize… got me again.

I enjoy PvE mostly and more than anything enjoy collecting achievements and titles. I play PvP for fun sometimes and for achievements, so I hope that there won’t be titles/achievements that would be unreasonably out of reach

Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary

If the new lengendarys are like most of the old ones, I’m still not interested in them: a disco ball on a stick, a party gun, a bow that shoots unicorns etc. Most of this are joke shop items at best more suited to April 1st.

Yeah, they’re cute (almost sickeningly so, in some cases!), but they should just have been sold as skins in the store; not touted as legendaries.

In fact, personally, if I were ANet I would just produce a few more really pretty weapon skins for the store (most of the ones ATM are pretty underwhelming, TBH), that can also be crafted (for people who have far more time than they do RL money) and be done with it.

Game isn’t supposed to be a gear grind, after all, so stick with that premise.

Your right not a gear grind but a skin grind the differance is you have to do the former not the later

Ugh, well I guess…

Except, when you make most of the endgame about looks progression, you risk making people feel obliged to do that grind, to get the skins, even if they don’t want to.

So, although it is marginally better than a conventional gear grind, as it is not absolutely needed for further progression, it’s still potentially not so very different (or not really different enough).

No, there is an objective difference between grinding for stats and grinding for cosmetics. If you try to run the Arah dungeon in level 60 greens or join a fractal 50 group without AR, you will be obliterated or kicked from the party. If you try to run those dungeons with the appropriate stat gear looking like a hot mess, people might snicker at you or you might feel like a clown but you’ll do just fine. The difference is that a stats gear grind is required for you to enjoy certain content in the game, while cosmetics is optional regardless of your “feelings” of being pressured.

Also, I respect your desire for more options in the gem store and I suppose more options for everyone won’t ever be a bad thing. However, I feel like the more they do to make a clear and separate distinction between where skins come from, the better. I understand not all players are this way, but some players feel a greater sense of satisfaction obtaining skins through specific gameplay requirements. As many people have demonstrated with their “legendaries are meaningless because [even theoretically] anyone can swipe a credit card for gems for gold for a legendary” protest. So what I’m saying is, sure, add more gem store skins, but make them exclusive to the gem store (giving people the ever-present option of converting gold to gems of course). And also add more skins that are exclusive to gameplay, for the rest of us.

I’m glad you made it clear that this is just your opinion, but your opinion seems to be that there is only one “right” way to to enjoy the game- and that people should only enjoy the game a certain way.

For what it’s worth, my opinion is that everyone’s reasons for enjoying the game are equally valid, and that everyone should try to enjoy the game in whatever way suits them as long as doing so does not involve anything immoral or unethical (e.g. directly harassing other players, griefing, gloating over others, provoking others, etc.)

Some people find enjoyment through collecting items in game that are of grate worth and value in that it is desired by many but attained by few.

All I said is that you should probably play a game to have fun. If you don’t play the game to have fun, but instead as a way to feel superior to other people, I think you might want to seek help.

If the aqusition of virtual items to feed a superiority complex is how you have fun though, then great I guess. I think that is a poor way to find enjoyment and ultimately futile and empty, but it is your choice.

I think precursor crafting and account bound legendaries is a good thing, but I don’t want crafting a legendary to become impossible for casual players. This is because prestige doesn’t bother me or affect my personal enjoyment from creating, playing, and improving my character as well as interacting with other players to accomplish that.

And all I’m saying is that some players find enjoyment in collecting items of values. In a virtual game where everything is pixels, worth is relative to what people desire. I never said anything about a desire to feel superior to others; that was an incorrect assumption you made. I think if you constantly judge others who are different than yourself as inferior to you, perhaps you might want to seek help.

I think that precursor crafting and account bound legendaries is a good thing, and I also don’t want crafting a legendary to become impossible for casual players. However, I do think that it should take much longer for someone who plays only a few hours a week and spends only half that time progression towards their legendary than it does for someone who invests 6 hours a day into the game focusing every bit of it onto their goal of obtaining a legendary. Be it a thousand hours playing hours every night for a few months or a thousand hours playing a couple hours a week for a few years, it would be possible for anyone, even “causal players”, to obtain a legendary. What I DON’T want is something that I can accomplish within a couple weeks, and everyone else can attain within a couple weeks, because to me that requires no commitment, effort, or investment into the game and hardly feels “legendary” or worthwhile. It has nothing to do with being “better than” someone else or a “superiority complex”, as you love to so blindly criticize.

However, the vast majority of our experience in fractals has been with pugs and random friends. We have been watching [KING] and speed clear videos and would be interested in learning and practicing similar high-level strategies with a guild of like-minded individuals. As we are both guildless and searching right now, we are open to new guilds and would be willing to meet any standard rep required. If you make a legendary because you want to feel superior to other players then you made it for the wrong reason. You should do anything in game because you enjoy it. I make legendary weapons because I enjoy the look of them. Everyone should have access to content if they want to experience it. Gating things behind the requirement of spending ridiculous amounts of time playing or exclusive limited events only hurt people who have lives and the majority of your playerbase. If you can’t enjoy something in game because you can’t stand not being the only one that is a personal problem and in my opinion you are playing the game for the wrong reasons, perhaps as a way to feel superior to your fellow players. If that is the case then there is a place for that called PvP where you can distinguish your skills without detracting from areas of the game that should be open for everyone to experience. This is also a key part of why many people play the game, because they can do it without quitting their job and still reach goals that in other games could never be realized. Many of you look to older games that had weapons and armor that only a few dedicated souls could obtain, because they were able to ignore the real world more than other players long enough to obtain them. If you suddenly had a job and only and hour to play each day though you would also fail to manage those “feats.” That kind of prestige is draconic and only seems to push the notion that players that make the game a job deserve more than other players. By merit of being in game more they already have an advantage and now they want items that are only obtainable by them. This game wasn’t built on that notion though, and I would hope it continues to give even the most casual players a means to the same content that hardcore players can obtain more easily by spending most of their time in game.

Awwww okay! Well, if it helps, ive always collected the rarest skins in any game ive ever played, but i keep them for my own use even if they are worth a ton of money. I just like getting the Oooos and Ahhhs from other players!

My opinion is that this is not a morally or ethically wrong desire, and the needs of such players should be considered as well. I’m not saying that everything, every item in this game should be designed for such a purpose, but I don’t think that it is unreasonable to ask that at least some such items exist in the game, and the name “legendary” would seem to imply that it is the most fit.

As for your concern about time commitment and effort, that is not a valid reason because there will be no time limit. Even for casual players that have a job, a family, and other irl responsibilities and can only play a couple hours a week can get a legendary weapon, it’ll just take them much longer- a year, maybe a few years. There will not exist any players who absolutely CAN’T attain a legendary because they lack a certain level of skill, because they can’t out compete other players, or because they aren’t able to spend a certain amount of hours in the game within a set period of time- the only players who won’t have legendaries are those who don’t want one or those who are not willing to do what everyone else is willing to do to get one. IMO it would be unwise for the game to cater to the type of players who are impatient and have the “I want it and I want it now but I’m not willing to work for it” attitude because when those same players get what they want easily they get bored and move on to a different game. It would be much wiser to cater to the audience of players who are willing to put in a thousand hours of play time for a single weapon, because whether these players put in those hours by playing 8 hours a day for a few months or a few hours a day for a few years, they show more commitment and dedication to the game.

why should a legendary take 100-1000 hours of playing? you are concerned the new legendaries will not be prestige?

just for information: i made 20 (all) legendaries in 5,300h – I didn’t use credit card. Right now you can do all the work for a Legendary by just farming gold all day long. Very boring and very easy.

I admire your skill and tenacity sir. Whether you played the tp very intelligently or ran dungeons very efficently or solo’ed and sold dungeons for profit, you have done things that (I feel anyway) does require much skill. If you didn’t do these things but found a “very easy” way of amassing gold so efficiently in such a short time without using a credit card or being ungodly lucky, please share those methods with me.

It’s easy to despise what you cannot have.

Perhaps that’s true. Why can’t you (the same generic you from the above quote) have it? If it’s because there’s level of skill required that you can’t meet, or if it’s because you’re not lucky enough, or if it’s because you’re not rich enough IRL, or if it’s because other players are better/faster at doing/getting xyz in the game and there’s a limited supply, and those are the reasons why, then maybe your feelings are justified, and it’s reasonable for you to despise these things and a system that prevents you from attaining them.

But what if it’s not that you CANNOT have it, but are too lazy/impatient/unwilling to attain it? If the new legendaries require a lot of time and effort but can be attained with minimal skill by everyone if they put in enough time, and there’s no time limit, then the only people who won’t have one are those that don’t want it or aren’t willing to do what it takes to get one.

I feel like the game should be designed in consideration to the first type of people, and forget about the second group, the type who are like “I want it and I want it now and I don’t want to have to work for it”

I think it’s rather selfish for you to say that other people’s reasons for playing are inferior to yours or matter less just because the game caters to your desires.

It’s not that it is inferior. It’s that in the long run it is unworkable in a game like GW2. Why? It’s simple – catering to it makes more people dissapointed than satisfied. By design. And no sane developer would want majority of their players to be disappointed..

You can get away with doing this to minor things (like liadri mini) but anything that is more front and center must be possible to acquire by everyone. Even if most people will find themselves unwilling to put in the required effort. Making something that is supposed to be desired by majority, and yet is limited by skill so that only a minority can possibly get it is asking for a riot.

Perhaps you’re right. I guess it’s not necessary that the exclusivity comes through the inherent competition of a market. However, I hope they set the bar high enough so that while anyone can get a precursor by crafting, it would deter most people who don’t have the patience. I don’t necessarily believe that there should be items that are desired by the majority with an circumventable limit to the amount of players that can ever attain them, and you gave good logic for why that would be a bad idea. Creating an artificial limit using skill, as with your example with the Liadri mini, might not be a good idea either. However, I think that creating an artificial limit of time investment isn’t unreasonable at all. I think the new process should take at least 4-6 months and several hundred to a thousand hours to complete. This should deter everyone but the most patient and invested of players, and is “fair” in the sense that everyone can work on it at their own pace without losing progress and it is attainable to everyone who is willing to do so.

Limiting an item through competition (only players who are better at PvP THAN other players, only players who acquire gold at a faster RATE than other players bidding for the same object, etc.) is not the best way of doing things.
Limiting an item through luck is obviously so kittened that I don’t even need to delve into it.
Limiting an item through skill (e.g. Liadri) is not the most fair way of doing things, because you will have players who will inevitably be unable to meet that standard.
Limiting such prestigious items through willingness to invest time into the game when there are no time limits, I feel like is the most fair and ideal solution. (Though mark my words, there will be people who will complain that it takes too long or is too grindy or they can’t play how they want because they’re forced to do a certain activity)

So, revisiting my original question, where I stand now is that I believe that account-bound precursor/legendary crafting would be an improved system if the requirements were extremely time intensive. I actually like the idea of that a lot, because as others have pointed out, I’ll be able to collect every single one of them, even if it takes me 7 years, and every time I see someone with the same legendary as me I will know that they obtained their legendary by going through the same process that I did.

I highly doubt it will be in any way extremely easy to accomplish, as well. Maybe you’re okay with spending obscene amounts of money just trying to get your grabby hands on something shiny but myself and many other people would rather that not be the case.

Was that incredibly judgmental statement baselessly directed towards me, or more a reflection of your bitterness towards having violating your own convictions and buying gems and gold with money for your legendary in the past? Either way your hypocrisy is ironical. I have one legendary and sixteen precursors. I have never converted a single gem to gold and I (obviously) have never purchased gold third party. I’ve purchased tons of gems, and used 100% of them for gem-store only items (mining tools, inventory space, outfits, etc.). I do not plan on selling/flipping any of my precursors. And the Sunrise that I have now, I completed it by farming every single component even if it would have been faster to purchase some items through the trading post.

I worded my original post poorly. I think that making the new legendaries account bound is a good thing, and I think that making the precursors craftable isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I just feel like the process should be time intensive enough to deter impatient people.

Guess its the cynic in me, but never stated for or against if it would be used by him/her self.

So collecting rare items that alot of people want but few can attain due to low % rng drop then selling them for great gold value is what I get out of that sentence

I’m sure others do, but I definitely don’t. I find the need to be “exclusive” to be silly, really.

The game shouldn’t be designed around people’s desire to be envied.

The game shouldn’t be designed solely around people’s desire to be envied, but it should allow room for players who share that desire. It’s great that you are not motivated to play by the desire to be envied, and I’m glad that the game accommodates your motivations for playing. I believe that the game should provide as many motivations for people to play as possible. I think it’s rather selfish for you to say that other people’s reasons for playing are inferior to yours or matter less just because the game caters to your desires. That’s like a PvP player who finds satisfaction in dominating over their opponents saying that the game shouldn’t be designed around cosmetics, PvE, etc. etc.

If the drop rate of precursors is %0.01, then only the top %99.99 richest (or luckiest) players will have a certain legendary.

That is patently not true. It would be true only if said drop chance was checked only once ever per each person, but, as you well know, it’s not so. In fact, there are people that are producing precursors (just as there are people that random dropped more than one).

Currently the precursors are being obtained by several categories of players, and the biggest one is neither the luckiest, or the wealthiest, but simply people that are willing to put some effort into it. And if currently most people are not willing to do that, i see no reason for the situation to change after HoT. It’s not like these new precursor collections will be a cakewalk.

And the new legendaries will not be buyable, by the way, which will make them far more “exclusive” and “prestigious” (as much as a virtual set of data in a computer game you are certain to get if you are willing to work for it can confer any prestige) than current ones.

Thank you for thoughtfully addressing my concern. I would agree with the idea that in an ideal scenario, precursors should be obtained by neither the luckiest nor the wealthiest (though purchasing gems aside, in game wealth is usually an indicator of effort and/or skill), but by those who are willing to set forth effort. I do not believe that is the case for the current system because in-game wealth can indicate skill (dungeon solo/selling, speed clearing), effort and time commitment (doing the same dungeons or other easier tasks that generate gold… for a much longer period of time), or, as others have pointed out, luck or converting irl wealth to gems to gold. Please explain why you believe that in the current system and the new system, those who put in the most effort are those who produce the most precursors. Finally, I agree that the new legendaries would be more “prestigious” in the sense that they signify an amount of dedication and commitment because they can not be purchased, and I believe that is a good thing.

Nope. I see Legendaries everywhere. What makes having a credit card prestigious?

As I said, the old system has flaws. One of the biggest one would be that it is indistinguishable whether someone got a legendary through luck (precursor drop), through rolling a credit card, or through effort and commitment (running dungeons or play the game to obtain gold and materials sheerly through gameplay).

I admit that the new legendaries eliminate the first two variables and ensures that everyone with a certain legendary has endured the same trials and put forth the same effort, which is great! It’s ideal. However the new system lacks the competitiveness inherent in a market. (In the old system, it’s not about having a set amount of gold- it’s about having MORE gold, or obtaining gold at a faster rate than everyone else. At one point in time, 30 gold could buy you a precursor, or 300 gold, or 1200 gold. The price adjusts as more gold enters the system such that it will always cost the amount of gold that reflects that which the most dedicated players can amass).

I like that the new system (for the new legendaries anyway) eliminate extraneous variables. I hope that it will be difficult and time intensive enough to attain that it will deter the majority of the population, or otherwise incorporate some element of competitiveness such that only the players who are willing and able to invest the most time and effort and perhaps some level of skill will be able to obtain them.

I’m concerned that with precursor crafting, legendary weapons will lose the exclusivity associated with them. Part of the allure of such weapons for some players is that they are desired by many, yet attained by few. The old system has many drawbacks, but one advantage is that by controlling the precursor drop rate, the prevalence of legendary weapons can be controlled. If the drop rate of precursors is %0.01, then only the top %99.99 richest (or luckiest) players will have a certain legendary. A similar principle exists in PvP, where only the top x players on the leaderboard are awarded with mini llamas or glorious hero’s armor.

I believe that an account-bound precursor/legendary crafting would be an improved system if the requirements were extremely time intensive. I think that making the new legendaries exclusive by using time investment as an artificial limiter is the best solution. I think the new process should take at least 4-6 months and several hundred to a thousand hours to complete. This should deter everyone but the most patient and invested of players, and is “fair” in the sense that everyone can work on it at their own pace without losing progress and it is attainable to everyone who is willing to do so. It’s also fair in the sense that anyone who has one of the new account-bound legendaries will have gone through the same process.

This is great! For a casual player. Gone are the days when I had to lament over getting nothing but two greens and a blue. Now, I can freely enjoy casual activities such as jumping puzzles, world bosses, and random events, and rejoice when I receive fine and masterwork gear as loot. After all, a third of the time the equipment will salvage into silk, which was worthless before. But now, the silk I get from casually playing actually has value, allowing me to sell it and slowly get any exotic gear I want, a high end grade of gear that allows me to experience everything the game has to offer, from open world exploration to WvW to dungeons, without much of a hitch. I’m so glad that silk prices are going up, because now the loot in the game just feels so much more rewarding.

Come back when you’re trying to gear up in ascended light armor(or any), would love to hear what you have to say.

I’ve obtained a full set of ascended armor for each weight class, so 18 pieces total. Except for a little bit of the light armor, I was able to do so purely from drops and salvages, without having to buy silk off the tp. It took a while, but it was worth it. So I guess what I’m saying is that my position remains the same

Thanks, however what i meant was if you are in a pre-made team of 5 people who are CHOOSING to play with you, then the dishonor system itself isn’t necessary to apply to that scenario. We don’t need dishonor in a scenario where you get to choose your teammates.

You and your friends may decent and honorable people, in which case the system wasn’t designed for you and shouldn’t affect you.

I kind of see where Solstice is coming from. Dishonor is necessary if there is at least even one pug member, but it can be argued that the system should always be disabled for full teams of five because it is not necessary. After all, if you rage quit on your friends (or even if you constantly d/c on them) that’ll act as it’s own dishonor system (no one will want to q with you anymore).

OP, I actually think it’s awfull this has changed your fun in the game that much.

Though I would like to help you with my opinion on this, I’m a PvE player myself but I do most of my dailies in PvP

- Win as class doesn’t require you to do combat, you just got to win the game (might take a few games but eventually you’ll win one)
- Capture a point, you can walk up to a point where nobody is defending and capture it (I have had this multiple times, as I’m still low rank myself)
- If you’ve got to kill people in PvP, just run along with another team mate of yours. Try to stay by his side all the time, if you hit them and he kills them you’ll also get the credit
- Gain Rank points, I believe if you focus yourself on capture points and then run to the next one – should give you enough rank points in one game to get this

I’ve got no advise for the WvW dailies, maybe someone else got easy tips for you there?

If there’s anything I could help you with, just hit me up in-game I’d love to help you in PvP

Please be sure to do this in PRACTICE mode. This allows you to leave matches at will until luck would have it you can join a winning team. Also, more importantly, you’re much less likely to be harassed by PvP players who want a serious competitive match.

I’m concerned whether forum specialists will truly condense all viewpoints in an unbiased matter. Whether or not they get new accounts, or if their identity remains hidden, I feel that for the sake of accountability it needs to be clear what information the FS are presenting to the GW2 employees. If an opinion, however the minority or unpopular, is neglected, overlooked, or otherwise brushed off and undrerepresented by a FS, there needs to be a way for the general public to speak up about that.

I like the new system. I like that I only have to do 3 achievements of my choice for a full 10 AP. I like that the cap for dailies and monthlies have been combined and I can still potentially get as many AP from the new system as from the old. I like that I only do more achievements because I want to, for the nice rewards, not because I need to in order to not fall behind with the AP. It makes it feel much less of a chore. I like that I get rewards for simply logging in, because I’ll probably keep on doing that no matter how busy I get.

PSA: Beta Ladder Starts Tomorrow (2014-12-16)

in PvP

Posted by: Wonderly.1324

Wonderly.1324

Current ladder is an utter joke (no offense meant)

Most of top players are just pvp bots with <50 games won and over 9000 games grinded.

Please don’t belittle other players like this.

Ladder should reflect skill (winning %, personal scores etc.) over time spent in pvp.

The goal of this scoring method is put emphasis on both skill and effort. Take Rank 1 in both EU and NA. EU has virtually the same score as NA, but had NA to play more than 150 games to achieve the same score. Both represent things that deserve credit: perseverance, consistency, and skill.

We know some players would like skill to be weighted higher than effort, all I can say as that we will review the data and be looking at feedback throughout the season, and especially at the end.

Also, do not forget that the current ladder data isn’t a good test of the system. We had matchmaking errors, configuration changes, etc, not to mention the ladder had a false start where data was being collected before people knew it would be visible.

I’m glad that the current system takes into account both skill and effort. It allows players who are dedicated and willing to work hard to achieve the same status as those who are naturally talented.

Hope this helped.

Thanks for the reply. I was specifically referring to the in-game option. To clarify, my confusion is that the sub categories don’t make it clear how the bugs for Living Story instances should be filed. Should it be under Personal Story? Or General PvE? Those two seem the closest, but either way, the sub categories don’t offer anything that seems to fit.

I can’t get the Dancer in the Dark achievement because the challenge mote seems to be missing. I completed the Tangled paths story on two characters and entered replay mode on both characters, but can’t find the achievement mote at all. It’s not where Dulfy’s video guide shows it to be; it’s not anywhere in the beginning area. When I enter the instance I can see the buff for all 3 achievements, but as soon as I enter the first area with mobs the Dancer in the Dark buff disappears. Is anyone else having problem finding this?

Wonderly.1324

Gonna have to address some of those

1) We don’t know about the forge rate increasing. All we know is a change was made to help diversify outcomes which included downgrades…..not something that’s agreed upon to be a good thing.

tl:dr While gold might be easier to come by, most things also cost more. Targeting specific items is still heavily gated by rng and dr.

1) We do know specifically. It was early in the game, a few months after Lost Shores I think, or around that time- they specifically stated that they would increase the drop rate of precursors from the mystic forge

tl:dr His point negates the cost of materials on the trading post. The assumption is that you can earn your precursor without buying any of the components off the TP, but just farming and generating everything yourself. And, it is possible. I’ve done it. Back in the days when it was (arguably by Wanze) harder, for that matter.

That’s your perspective and your opinion, which, while I respect as being perfectly valid for you, must add that it’s not the absolute truth for all players.

My experiences and opinions differ from yours. I do not consider purchasing and converting gems to gold an option for obtaining anything that is meant to be obtained in the game. (I have purchased plenty of gems to support the game, but only to spend on gem store items). I was able to forge my first legendary and three sets of ascended armor by normal gameplay, farming every single component (e.g. I did not buy a single lodestone off the TP; every single scrap of silk that went into all 3 ascended armor sets came from armor that I salvaged from excess gear I got simply playing the game). My own experiences has proven to me that it is possible to gain at least high end gear like ascended gear simply from playing the game.

As for high end cosmetic items (legendaries, 2012 Halloween weapons, etc.), those are not necessary to participate in or enjoy any part of the game. You can be top PvP without a legendary, and you can WvW just fine without the Ghastly Grinning Shield. Same for dungeons, fractals, Living Story, and general PvE. My point is that these high end cosmetic items which you desire do not hinder you from experiencing or enjoying any area of the game in any manner. That being said, for these items to be truly high end and be of value, they have to be exclusive, meaning only a limited number of people will have them.

I will never have a set of Glorious Hero’s armor, because though I participate in PvP, I’m not a top level player. I want a set, but you know what, I don’t deserve one. Because I’m not top 20, and I shouldn’t take away that prestige and the value of that armor from those who are.

In PvE, the rarest treasures belong to those who have the skill and dedication to commit the time required to amass the gold for these items. Running dungeons takes skill; more so if you want to do it quickly. Playing the TP takes skill, time, effort, and research. And contrary to what you say, I will agree with John Smith that, while a skilled TP trader can effectively make gold, you can make just as much gold from skillfully playing the game alone.

Legendaries are top treasures that should remain exclusive to a select few. If you do not find it worthwhile to put in the time and effort to acquire such a treasure, that’s your decision. You can certainly throw a temper tantrum and threaten to quit the game because you weren’t handed what you want without putting the required effort, but it would be invalid to say that you’re leaving the game because a “required grind” barred you from experiencing or enjoying the game to its fullest potential.

Please don’t pull random statistics out of thin air. You can’t know that “half the playerbase experiences d/c”.

At any rate, I agree with Anet’s stance- if a player has bad internet, that doesn’t excuse them from being a hindrance to their team. Even if it’s not with malicious intent, constant d/c’s cause a problem for both teams, and there’s nothing wrong with discouraging players like that from spoiling the fun for others. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to play with someone if I know that there’s a 50% chance it’ll end up being 4v5, even if this person is a friend. I’d find some other way to enjoy the game with this person. And if I know my internet causes me to d/c 50% of the time, I wouldn’t be so shameless to PvP, because that’s not fun for me or the 9 other people playing.

The only thing is though, sometimes there are server issues that cause everyone to d/c. In those cases, I do feel like it’s unfair for players to be penalized for something that’s entirely on the game’s fault. I think a reasonable suggestion would be, any time Anet detects a server failure or lag, for them to nullify all dishonors issued within the past few minutes.

Sad truth of playing the ingame instruments

Because they do not give a player a gameplay advantage, Customer Support does not intend to take action on people who play instruments using macros. We don’t recommend any. We don’t support them. If a macro causes your refrigerator to explode, we’re not going to get involved. But they are not against the rules, because the rules pertain to gameplay advantages, such as faster kills or more effective defense.

I can personally gaurentee that you will see an increase in instrument sales. In fact, I think I’m going to go ahead and pull out my credit card for the whole set now.

But back on topic; I have the utmost respect and praise for those who can play music without a macro, even if they make occasional mistakes. If I buy a CD mp3, it’s not because I want to emulate or mock the artist, but because I want to appreciate their talent and their song even if I can’t perform it myself or hear them live.

I was one of the many collectors that made the gem purchase deal with real money to get the mini mr sparkles.

I can see some time in the near future they may do a similar deal for the mini llama or mini mystical dragon.

I for one and many of my friends will never spend real money for any more due to this horrendous mistake.

Infact if I knew this was going to happen I would have never bound all my minis.

If this is not fixed I would like to unbound the minis slso I can sell them as of right now I will never complete the collection so there is no point. ;(

I feel the same way. I want to remain open to understanding why Anet decided to create an item that is extremely low chance RNG + account bound + costly + temporary. But if no explanation is given, I’d have the same outlook and request as you, wanting to unbind my collection, mini Karka and all.

Wonderly.1324

I will add as a mini collector and a avid gem purchaser, I am rather ticked that the only way to get this mini is all based on RNG. I have already opened over 5k bags and nothing. I always buy the gem mini’s to complete my collection. I will have to stop now due to this matter.

boohoo to me I know, This is now the only aspect of the game I enjoy ( I am a digital Hoarder)

I understand, Vladimer. I am the same sort — I’m still playing sometimes for a MPB (Miniature Polar Bear) in Guild Wars during the Wintersday event.

If you continue the quest, I will wish you luck, as one collector to another.

I’m not sure you really understand the mentality of a collector, Gaile. I have every single mini in the game. Every. Single. One. For the sake of completing a collection, I purchased 2000 gems for Mr. Sparkles. For the sake of completing the collection, I’ve purchased every gem store mini, even the ones I thought were ugly and would never use. For the sake of completing a collection, I begged and bribed and formed a ToL team and trained for weeks to win a Mini Llama. I’ve spent thousands of dollars on gems, but always on gem store items, because I refuse to convert gems to gold for rewards that can be earned within game. If this mini were to be so unrealistically unobtainable that the statistical expected return would cost over a thousand gold in ToT bags and moreover this amount has to be amassed within a 2-week time frame, it would destroy my collection and eliminate my desire to continue pursuing a complete collection. This would eliminate my desire to further spend gem store purchases on minis, and also remove a core goal that drove me to play and enjoy this game.

I’m not trying to point fingers or start an argument. I’m only giving some player feedback on the matter. I only hope that my feelings are understood and considered, and I also seek to understand Anet’s perspective as well.

I think it’s great that some things are account bound, to indicate that the player participated in a specific event. I think it’s great that some things are really costly to obtain, to indicate the player has invested a lot of time and effort into the game. I think it’s great that some content is temporary/seasonal, to indicate that the player prioritized and participated in certain events during that time. However I think you need to carefully consider which combinations of these you put together, and combining all three, I propose, is a terrible idea.
I’m fine with Tequatl weapons because even if I kill Teq every day for a year and don’t get one, I know I’ll always have time to get one eventually if I’m dedicated enough.
I’m fine with precursors being the price that they are, because I know that I’ll amass the gold eventually, if I play long enough.
I’m fine with (and I have) every temporary living story skin that is no longer available, because they were all obtainable within a reasonable amount of time/effort/gold within the time frame that was allotted.
I am NOT fine with this Mini Gwynefyrdd because it is unreasonable to put in the amount of time/effort/gold required for the statistical yield of this item, within a two week period. Do you understand?

Lets talk about the new Gem conversion [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wonderly.1324

Wonderly.1324

Ok, here’s a suggestion, without ranting or complaining:

Allow us to purchase gems in different bulk amounts, not just 400 gems at a time. There should be buttons for 25 gem, 50 gem, and 100 gem conversion options, along with the 400. (And maybe add 800 and 1000) as well.

By doing so, restore some of the functionality to the new system that was lost, without losing any of the pros of the new system.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Wonderly.1324

Wonderly.1324

I’d like to start by saying that RNG itself is not the issue here. The main issue (as far as I’ve been able to suss out) is that this game has very, very few ways to decide what type of RNG you’re up against.

Here’s the comparison that makes the most sense to me, since it’s drawn from years of experience: in WoW (yes, that game, but where it’s from is not the point) there are various levels of RNG. Most of the time, if you want a specific gear item you can look it up and see that it only drops from certain bosses, often in the 10-25% range. These are what you could consider typical items, not meant to be exclusive. Other items are meant to be difficult to obtain, and so have drops in the 0.01-2% range, but are still dropped by specific mobs. Then, you have what are known as “world drops”. These are items that have often a 0.05-2% drop range, AND have a very wide pool of mobs it can drop from, often across multiple zones. In other words, for “typical” and most “exclusive” items, you can mitigate the RNG by knowing specifically what to kill, thereby limiting your pool of possible drops. For “world drops”, you essentially cannot mitigate by limiting the item pool.

The underlying problem in GW2 is that almost all desirable specific drops, including exotics with unique skins, are “world drops” or very close to it. Only in a few specific instances can you limit your item pool, as with the Sunless weapon chest. Otherwise, there is no way to specifically “go after” or hunt for what you want – at level 80, you could have a precursor drop from the gate guardian of Arah… or any random Risen mob… or a level 5 fish in Queensdale… or from a champ box… or in a dungeon… or from a JP or other chest. You get the idea. Now, I’m not suggesting that each precursor should have a specific list of mobs it drops from since maybe that’s asking too much, but I definitely would have no problem with other unique skins or more “typical” gear and vanity items having more specific methods of acquisition than a completely random world drop. The chance to drop doesn’t even have to be radically better, it just needs to give you a way to feel like you’re on the right track so to speak. It would also be nice if some more common or less prestigious skins could have more like the 10-25% drop rate, say skins from dungeon bosses.

They do this to support their “no grind necessary” slogan. You see, by spreading out the drops, it makes it extremely difficult for “hardcore” players, bots, and gold farmers alike to “farm” up wealth through a specific method. However, the casual player who wanders the world, goes from map to map, and kills random things without hunting anything, is bound to get some T6’s, a few named exotics, etc. which they can then sell on the TP. Since these items are required in large quantities only for exclusive, end-game, COSMETIC items which do not prevent or limit players from experiencing any aspect of the game in any way (e.g. you are just as effective in a dungeon with a “berzerker’s pearl sword” as you are with Infinite Light), and since there is no clear effective/efficient way to produce these items, the value of these items will always be high on the trading post. This is good for casual players who inevitably come across these items (lodestones, T6’s) because they can sell them for a higher price. And although it’s not apparent at first, this is good for hardcore players, because the rarity and high cost of the big ticket items allows it to maintain it’s prestige. And this is good for the game in general, because even the most casual players can acquire all the gear that they need for most areas of the game with ease.

The only type of people this is NOT good for are the people who want all the best and most exclusive items but don’t want to put in the time or effort necessary to earn these rewards.

I think it would be great if the black lion weapon skins had set-specific weapon tickets which could be purchased for the same price in black lion claim tickets as the rest of the weapons in the set. I would be more incentive to purchase enough keys for at least one set-specific exchange ticket every time a new set came out, because I like having the security of knowing if I ever decide I want a weapon from that set, I won’t have to pay the inflated price in the future.
