The problem is if you give another line as much condi clear as water, you could take that line AND water and conditions would roll off you nuthin.
Time will tell how they balance the numbers, and they for sure need balancing. But I hope they leave may as it is in beast mode and nerf sic em a little
Good read. The thing that soulbeasts seem to have the most trouble with is all the condi bombs, especially scourge. How you holding up against them?
No one knows what’s going to be nerfed yet, or even how much things will be nerfed. Thank you for actually sharing something you’ve had success with. Imo waaay too much whining going on in this forum. I know drawing attention to stuff is more likely to get it changed, but talking about builds etc. that are putting in work is nice too.
Might get torn apart from saying this, but I feel like someone has to say something positive in this thread. I watched phantaram play weaver on twitch for a long time yesterday. It did take him a while to figure out weaver, and while he couldn’t make a power build that worked, he eventually found a condition build that worked really well. He was dominating with it for hours, even against some other top streamers/players he recognized. He did strong condi burst damage, survived and escaped out of a ton of tricky situations, had decent healing, etc. Looked like a very strong dueling build. The spec for sure needs a bit of work, probably some different power scaling and some bugs with traits worked out, but it isn’t the worst spec ever with no good qualities.
I know devs are crazy busy but would be super nice to know if this is a bug or not. Kinda makes or breaks the class imo. The wording seemed pretty clear
As long as it’s a bug and not intentional, I’m happy. Weaver definitely needs some condi removal
How do the things that affect your pet affect you? I read sic em affects you. What else?
Can anyone finally show what earth 3 for sword does?
As for me, Im more excited about traits like Live Fast, Essence of Speed, Second Skin, and the newly introduced Rugged Growth thanks to recent patch. Protection with healing and reduced condition damage, depending on your choice. Pair with 10sec CD Beast skills like Swoop, Bear Bite, or Crippling leap from Canines thats almost perma protection if you take Nature Magic on the line too. You can be either condi or power. Lots of choices coming up looking forward to it.
I was thinking of this too, but I feel there’s too little protection available for ranger to really focus on it. Remember you can’t take Essence of Speed and Second Skin together, which is a bit of a bummer. So you just have 2 seconds of prot on dodge and protective ward.
Thats a good thing, we have choices on which traits to take, would you take increase in boons with Essence of Speed or Condition dmg reduction with Second skin, with this build sample: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJAzXnUqA1Ci9CCmsAUtAhMhyL8Eox7kNAOgTaVjXB-TJR6gA+XAgs9HAeAAxlBAA
you can increase Protective Ward up to 8 seconds on an 18 CD. Per dodge 4 secs of protection. With Essence of Speed per quickness gain you get an increase of 2 seconds, not considering the type of pet youre melding with, not sure how much a Versatile pet can add for these boons, plus Moa stance (if youre running it) and your main dagger 3 in 15secs CD. Not sure about the numbers but I think we’re pretty close to perma protection.
Ah I get you. Thought you might’ve been thinking we could get 100% uptime with Second Skin. Personally I think going for more healing power for less concentration would be the way I’d like to go I think. You lose on a bit of protection uptime but the scaling on healing power is nuts for Rugged Growth. Something like this – http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJAzXnUqA1Ci9CCmsAUtAhMhyL8Eox7kNAOgTaVjXB-TJR6gA+XAgs9HAeAAxlBAA
I had this in mind as well it seems your link is the same as mine :P. But if youre going to run menders amulet in PVP focusing on healing power, Protective Ward would heal you for a total of 2987 for the duration. With Diviners amulet you get 2712. But keep in mind that you want protection to last long not only does Rugged Growth mitigate damage but it also reduces incoming damage while you have protection on, I guess it all boils down to timing when your protection would proc in the most useful situation, with Second Skin thats another story if you have it on
Whoopsss, sorry I linked the wrong one haha, was comparing the two in different browsers. This is more what I was thinking – http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vNAQJAzXnEqA1CiNsAmsAUtABOhqH2KNA8AfAO8TaVjXB-TJBQABnfBAAY/hUfAARXGAA
The only real changes are a couple traits, and menders and runes of the grove. You do get less prot uptime but it heals for almost double, and offensive stats are the same. Still get a 30% prot duration bonus and 240 concentration, so about half the bonus you’d get with your build. Of course your build means higher uptime on all boons which is huge. Theorycrafting for this spec is insane

This thread makes me so sad. Love the gameplay style and variety of both gs and sword, and was hoping to give gs a shot when pof rolled out. :C
Having a hard time deciding if power or condi is the way to go. With power you could pick up Soften the fall and wilderness knowledge for more condi clear and fury. And then replace Skirmishing with Marksmanship and get lesser signet of stone, longbow traits, and all that opening strike goodness, which synergizes well with the fury everywhere. This is so hard to pick
Curious to see how predator’s cunning works. It seems to have no icd, does it work for each application of poison? If so, poison volley especially would be a pretty big heal, especially in a group if you took piercing arrows trait…
FYI, Poison Volley pierces baseline.
Well. Shows what I know. Been playing with longbow too long(bow).

Second Skin also seems really good, but there’s not too much protection available to ranger without making pretty big sacrifices I feel. And it competes with predators cunning and essence of speed, which also seems really good. If rugged growth stays as good as it is it might be an option to really focus on protection for a build. This tier is gonna be hard to pick from.
I’ll make a prediction:
When the devs have all left and are programming total immersion narratives, when a terabyte is something your watch will laugh at (AI), when FTL is used by consumers just to get to the shops on 39ly Trappist 1f…
… there’ll be a hardcore Tyrian hosting the game on his nanibot quantum TV/matter transporter
Thank u this wat I wanted. I’m gon take yo word as gospel
I know I won’t be playing it for 50 years, but I’m sure that in 50 years going back and playing this game will hit me with a ton of nostalgia. I also have a hard time understanding private servers, maybe technology Wil be so advanced that your phone could have a private server on it in the future. I guess there’s no point in worrying, but I do love being able to pip in old cartridge games I played 20 years ago and relive old memories. Just wanted to know if anyone knew I’d be able to do that.
This will probably be swallowed by all the crazy stuff happening right now, but a question. I love gw2, it’s probably my favourite game. What happens after its not supported? In 50 years, will I be able to play this game somehow, or will it be gone forever after its servers close? I’m pretty clueless when it comes to this stuff, but at the same time it would be a huge bummer if I could no longer play my favourite characters anymore.
The hardest part about soulbeast is picking how I want to play it. So many choices!! That being said I don’t think we should go too crazy over the numbers, some seem way too low and others too high.
I like how Beast abilities were snuck in there. Looks like soulbeast will benefit pretty heavily from beast mastery
Edit: Beast tooltip for abilities I should say
Absolutely. Sword 2 is a leap, water 2 is an evade, air 2 is a shadowstep and earth 2 is an evade. It seems like its a get in and get out concept.
This. Looking only at #2 skills gets me so excited, they’re far from a real #2. Fire 2 is a leap and a fire field, so you can use it defensively, to simply run away. Or even use air 2 in said fire field to get fire aura, proccing aura traits (Protection/fury/might swiftness depending on traits) and dazing the opponent. Earth 2 in fire field also works well, as it gives you an evade, might, cripple and bleed. And those are just a couple tiny combos off of one skill. Same goes for water, though it combos even better. And that’s only a couple skills!! Really feels like they put a lot more thought into this spec than past ele stuff
Personally very happy with the way soul beast works. If the spec actually turned into an animal, you wouldn’t get to see your armor, which is a huge reason I hate playing wow druids. Plus it would take away current weapon skills.
No offense, but that is one hell of a jump to a silly conclusion. The class looks great. Check out the wiki, has all skills and traits, courtesy of bogotters video.
There are five so far. The ones on the wiki, and two more, going by the pet icons. One is a lionish creature, the other seems to look similar to the soul beast elite spec official art
Unfortunately you only get bonuses from the first attunement.
a better view on things:
Thank you so much for this. With this we have aaaalmost all the sword skills, at least, and to me they look like perfection. Oh geez just remembered focus sword gives even more dual skills. Holy moly
While it’s not really the same thing, there seems to be other things that will benefit fresh air eles with weaver. If you take a look at traits, there’s a grandmaster that says – Lose conditions at a rapid rate while under the effects of superspeed. Gain superspeed when you are inflicted with inhibiting conditions. Which seems huge to fresh air, as you’re going to be having supahspeed all the time.
I watched all wooden potatoes stream, and while it was good, he only moused over like maybe a third of the traits and skills. It was a great stream, but like I said it would’ve taken so little effort just to mouse over all of them so we could pause and read them.
It’s so simple, the tiniest thing. Would it have killed any of the presenters to spend like 20 seconds mousing over all the new skills and traits, so we could at least screen cap them? I know they couldn’t go in depth on everything but that would’ve been enough. We’re chomping at the bit here
Aurora just showed 30-40 min of it on her stream
Argghhhh I was watching Wooden Potatoes haha. Shewt
Wooden Potatoes showed a decent amount for the ele, nothing too in depth but showed the mechanics of it at least. So the weaving of the skills applies to all weapons. If you have a staff and are in fire, then go water, your first 2 skills become water and the middle skill is a hybrid of the two. You don’t have to be sword at all if you don’t want. One thing he was talking about how insane it is is Fresh Air. It still works, and the cool thing is you can swap to air to change your first 2 skills, and then swap to air AGAIN to change your last two skills. And each time you swap to air you get the benefits of swapping to air. Soooo double fresh air.
this sounds wrong. this would essentially mean we have 8! attunements to keep track of and it would be insanely annoying trying to figure out if my next swap is now the first 2 or last 2 skills (heat of battle).
the elementalist is already viewed as being to complicated to speedily grasp, them adding this would multiply that issue.therefore i don’t believe this is how it would work (simply seems to cluttered and confusing)
Could a CM, or equal, pls confirm how this functions?
Ooookay, but like I just watched the video… I’m sure it’ll be up for you to watch somehow

WP did a showcase of a lot of weaver skills, hopefully someone can get screencaps of all the skills?
While I’m sure a ton of people are gonna hate, I am beyond excited. Love animal themed characters but hate how pets are useless in some scenarios. So glad we have the option to be petless. I really hope it’s a toggle type deal that can last as long as you want, not like a 10 second thing with a cooldown or whatnot.
Well… if the point of elite spec is to get a different use of a class, i dont see a prob with not having lots of heals and or condi cleanses… This spec could be focused on dmg and toughness instead of support…. that way tempest will still be extremely useful.
Still, there is no point on hanging on things that are not even confirmed.
I think that’s some of the problem though. We get a lot of heals and condi cleanse from water, it’s almost mandatory. I wish there was more build diversity but as it stands they have to balance around that. The new spec could have zero condi cleanse or healing but then you just spec into water and earth, and all of a sudden you’re hard to kill. I feel like the devs have dug their own grave a bit here. Maybe if they could make the other vanilla specs more attractive, or spread out some utility… I guess I really don’t know how I’d fix it
Always hated using a pet. If ranger becomes petless it’ll likely become my main
I’m not worried about it being a bad spec, they have to make it good as an incentive to buy the next expac. All elite specs thus far have been the meta for most, if not all, game modes. I do hope that it actually gives us a different style of play though. I feel like core ele and tempest both perform best as team support, and while that is nice, it’d be cool to have a different way of playing. Hopefully that’s what this nest elite spec does – takes away some of our tools to make our remaining ones stronger.
Yeah I still don’t fully understand. You have 2 attunements but one weapon, and the 3rd skill is a mix of the two. Can you switch attunements for each half? Like if I had D/F I could pick earth and fire, and pick earth/earth, fire/fire, earth/fire or fire/earth?
While I know that ele’s can successfully support in pvp and wvw, it seems they’re pretty terrible at dueling. It disheartens me a little, as I love playing ele more than any other class but roaming and dueling are probably my favourite activities.
I wish more classes were like mesmer, having a higher skill cap. Not that they don’t have braindead builds I suppose, but it seems like a lot of pro players can do crazy things with mesmers, while other pros that use other classes don’t seem to do anything much differently from your average player. They just seem to have a better grasp of the game in general I suppose.
Is this generally right? Is this just kind of where eles have settled in, being support bots? I know that important, but it would be nice to see more builds do well. Easier said than done, I know, but I guess I’m looking for a bit of hope.
With the release of the pirate armour, I just wanted to post somewhere that we absolutely need cyborg body parts. Robotic hand, eye, leg… could be sooo cool and I really hope it happens. Plz Anet!
This is sure to get swallowed up by all the HoT stuff and junk, but this thread is just a humble request; can we get an earth elemental? As an ele myself, I would love to roleplay as a mostly earth ele. But for whatever reason, earth ele is the only mini elemental that isn’t available.
Please let us buy little earth ele! Pet rock doesn’t count T.T
Finished first small mission, where rytlock shows up the first time, but when I exited instance it logged me out, I’m assuming cause of new patch. But now I can’t get back to jungle. Big red circle with a line through it one the portal. Redid holdout and such, still nothing.
Would really like to get to new area T.T
So are you saying overloads do nothing when your channeling them? They do and some of them mostly air and fire are stronger then “spamming 1 like a dummy.” Water overload heals for a lot and removes a lot of conditions earth overload is a good soft cc tool AND a good stab. That an your getting protection and other effects when overloading.
I don’t think he’s saying they do nothing. I think he’s saying that using them paints a target on your back. Sure, you gain a bit of protection, but even with that and your stability, you can’t use any other defensive tools. No dodgeing, healing, condi cleansing, etc. And of course you’re locked out of your attunement if you switch out, making water and earth riskier to use.
Edit – Ninja’d.
What about when applying a magnetic aura, gain invulnerability for 1 second? Would allow for clutch plays to save allies or self. And it’s not like magnetic aura is something that you can apply very frequently.
Some of my opinions of tempest skills;
Heat Sync shouldn’t share just might, but also shouldn’t share all boons. A middle ground should be found.
Wildfire really needs boon stripping back. Another boring fire field is too samey, boon stripping adds much needed newness to the spec.
I personally love both water skills.
Cyclone is very lackluster. Pull is super small, damage is almost non existent. I feel the only thing this skill will be used for is swiftness. Maybe add a stun after the pull, to synergize with other air traits. Or a blind after? Idk, but it needs something.
Lightning Orb, as everyone knows, has piddly, crappy damage. It should be a nuke on single targets if they are the only target.
Sand squall is half decent. It’s boring, only being used for blast finisher, protection and aura. The extra two second boon duration is pointless, especially with a cast time.
Dust storm is the my most hated skill. Too little payoff, hard to see where it hits, blind duration is super small… there’s nothing I like about this skill. Personally would love to see some kind of invuln/evade or something on earth. Maybe even in a small area, that would be amazing. Probably too late now.
Didn’t get a chance to give my feedback earlier, hopefully it doesn’t get buried.
Though I’m mostly going to be posting about changes I think would better for the class, I wanted to say I was blown away by it. I am crazy excited to play it.
Not sure if it’s too late or not, but I do think that being more plant based would be better than space based. Minor, cosmetic detail, but I think it fits much better. Glyph of the tides should be switched. Pushback is more defensive: it would be better suited for celestial form. The pull would be super useful for other aspects of the ranger too, like melee ranger or pet abilities. Tidal surge feels a little strange, being a channel that you can’t combo off of, since it’s channeled. I understand this is probably for balance purposes, but it feels strange not to be able to.
Other than that, love the synergy within the specialization. It’s wonderful, and my favorite thing about HoT.
I’m with you for everything up to the traits. While they need tuning, your suggestions are practically a complete rework and unrealistic. Very cool ideas, but no way Anet’s going to completely redo dragonhunter this far into development. Suggestions should be slight alterations at this point.
I feel the bow is too disconnected from the guardian as a whole. The weapon feels like it has little to do with the profession. I get that it’s an attempt at a different play style, but it should have synergy with other guardian skills. I would love it if it would interact with some other traits. Throwing some kind of a block on it would let it interact with a ton of traits; aegis even more. It does have a symbol, which is good. A heal would be good, or maybe a trait that allows for some kind of sustain. Even boons are practically nowhere on bow, just stability when traited. My feeling if the bow were to have a few of these things, it would fit the guardian way more, and would mesh together much better.
