I was playing in an enemy borderland and noticed that the tower’s waypoint closest to our spawn wasn’t contested even though it belonged to the enemy. I clicked on thw waypoint and it warped me inside the enemy tower! :O
Is this intended behavior or a bug? if it is intedned, then why the heck are people allowed to teleport to enemy towers?
I don’t mind the complexity of the new BL maps. I actually like it and I’m sure others will too when they get to know the map better.
However, the map is way too big and the keeps/towers upgrade way too fast at the moment.
I’m loving the fact that now you can actually defend in this game! Defending is much more fun and satisfying than running around the map pvdooring keeps and towers.
Thank you ArenaNet for finally thinking of us defenders! =)
Someone hear me out please. Last night, 40+ DB took EB keep in 3 minutes.
This happens on all servers all the time. A zerg of 40+ can take any keep easily if you don’t have a zerg defending. The game mode is seriously flawed when it takes hours of hard work to get a keep to Fortified status and sieged up, but it only takes 3 minutes to lose it…
For this reason I don’t bother playing anymore.
Your changes have focused on making siege a stronger and more central part of WvW while the community at large wants siege to be a supplement at best.
Speak for yourself. You don’t represent the entire WvW playerbase.
Indeed. Siege IS a central part of WvW and all these arrogant people who say “no one wants stronger siege” should get off their high horse and just shut up already. If you dislike siege, it doesn’t mean everyone else dislikes it too. You are just one loudmouth with an opinion, that’s all.
I admit I’m as disappointed with WvW as anyone, but Devon and his team is working hard it seems and I truly believe WvW will improve a lot in the near future. If it doesn’t, then I guess I’ll start crying too.

Why should a group of 5 people be able to hold off 60 people.
Well, if a keep or a tower is fully upgraded, I think it shouldn’t be easy to take no matter how big the zerg trying to take it. It’s way too easy to take a keep if you have enough Golems as the gates melt in seconds and there is no way you can defend against a huge zerg at the moment. Paper gates and walls should melt in secons, but not fortified walls and reinforced doors. That’s just ridiculous and stupid.
This is a great topic and I hope some day defending towers and keeps will be made possible and more rewarding. ANet better take notes!

Indeed. Defending in this game is too hard and doesn’t even reward the player.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love defending and I don’t care about the rewards, but other people do. Since only mindless zerging is rewarded in www, people don’t bother to defend… It’s so disheartening to always be one of the few who remain behind to tick siege, to scout and to man siege when the enemy force appears.
And what can a few dedicated defenders do against a zerg? Absolutely nothing. If the enemy zerg has Golems, the gates will melt in seconds, and all your siege on walls will be also destroyed in seconds because there are no safe spots to place your arrow carts and ballistas.
WWW would be so much better if there was a nice balance between offence vs defence. Now it’s just very frustrating and a gold sink for defence minded people like me. WWW has so much potential but it’s all wasted by awful design decisions by ANet.
TL;DR: Anet started balancing rewards with the new dungeon revamp (time+difficulty=reward). Next step would be applying this to open world content. Spending time doing events shouldn’t feel like a waste of time. Farming shouldn’t feel like a waste of time. Running around on maps shouldn’t. Nothing should
This is such a great post!
No kind of gameplay should be punished. Instead, all kind of gameplay should be rewarded. There should be no diminished return punishment for farmers for example. Also, exploring the world should be more rewarding. Like the OP said, there should be some kind of a randomly generated treasure on every map that you could only find by exploring. I would love that since I love the huge and beautiful world of GW2 but right now all the maps are empty and there’s nothing to do, all the greatness is going to waste at the moment…
And don’t get me started with WvW… It is insane how mindless zerging is rewarded but defending a keep or escorting Dolyaks is not encouraged at all because the rewards either suck or are nonexistent…
WvW needs more love. I hope ANet has noticed this thread…
Well, this game does have pretty awful dungeons. They’re linear and filled with enemies. Arenanet seems to think throwing hundreds of enemies constantly at you makes a fun dungeon, well it doesn’t. GW2 dungeons are boring, unfair and unrewarding. I wish the dungeons in this game were a little more like the dungeons in The Legend of Zelda series where there would be more exploration, more puzzles and the fights would be fun and exciting instead of boring and tedious.
I am really happy that the Arrow Carts are finally useful! Thank you for the much needed buff, ANet and Devon!
I know it’s not always easy to listen to all these whiners here who are always dissatisfied with everything you do, but just keep believing in what you’re doing and keep up the good work, Anet Staff!
All the complaining in this topic is ridiculous. It’s reset night, what did you expect? Of course the queues are hours long! I’m on a high population server and if I can’t get to Eternal Battlegrounds like tonight, I just go to a borderland and have fun there. Or if all the borderlands are full on your server, then maybe go to a lower tier? Problem solved.
Well, we finally transfered to Tarnished Coast. Played WvWvW for a couple of hours and I’m already enjoying it here. SoR is an annoying opponent but TC battles well against such big numbers. Love how some people have different roles that they play, but I guess that was expected if this is the RP server of GW2. Hoping to make a difference during EU prime time, no matter how strong the opposition.
(edited by Xavier.2176)
Another EU player here. I’ve only heard good things about TC and I’ve considered moving over there for some time already. But I have to admit I am a bit discouraged by Sanctum of Rall’s WvWvW domination over TC in Tier 2. I’m one of those guys who really love doing all the important stuff like walking Dolyaks, defending and upgrading towers etc and I’d hate to see all my work going to waste when most TC players go to sleep and Sanctum just PvDoors everything.
So does TC have any chance against Sanctum during EU prime time or is it just how I fear it is? I’d really love to join you guys with my tiny EU guild but I’m tired of being on a server that loses everything during non-NA prime time and that’s why I may be leaning towards more even tiers like Tier 1 or Tier 6…
I understand that the “final” area of a game needs to be hard and unpleasant, but that final area could also be made in an interesting way. Placing a map full of undead isn’t an interesting way and I feel that the Anet people who did Orr either got lazy or are just incompetent. The least Orr could have is some breathing room between all those hordes of undead and some more enemy variety. Final areas should be fun too even if they’re hard. Now Orr is nothing more than a huge borefest and one of the worst designed final areas I’ve ever seen in any game.
I transfered to Yak’s Bend last week and I have to say the server is full of great and committed people. Everyone fights for the server, not for themselves, just how it should be in Wx3. Everyone on Yak’s Bend has been friendly and people seem to know what they’re doing. And the server never gives up it seems! Sometimes we have the outmanned buff and the enemy sweeps through the EB taking everything, but instead of getting discouraged we just take everything back and more! I’m impressed by the great fight spirit and the great tactics I’ve seen so far. And I’m even more impressed by the fact that there is no fighting or childish bickering going on in the chat. All the other server’s I’ve been on had that foolish stuff but on YB everyone is fighting united.
I can definitely recommend the server to all guilds. It’s a great and mature community with a never surrender attitude.

I couldn’t care less about rankings, all I care about in WvWvW is having fun and doing battle with great comrades. But it seems to me that the quality of WvWvW in the low tiers is nothing compared to that of higher tiers.
I transfered from a T8 server to a T3 server and the difference is huge. In T8 you have people running around selfishly in zergs to get easy exp/karma, no one cares about defending, escorting Dolyaks and all that stuff that is crucial for a server’s success in Wx3. But in T3 you have commanders with great tactical minds and people who stay behind to defend our keeps/towers etc. Also, the amount of siege in one signle tower is incredible compared to what I witnessed in T8. Keeps and towers kept flipping like crazy but in T3 everyone defends their keeps/towers and that makes Wx3 feel more like real war to me.
I made some good friends in the last tier and there are some really skillful players there, but the overall experience is just so much better in higher tiers where the battles are fun and tight. And people in lower tiers don’t need to get upset at me, this is just my opinion. I actually considered going back to Eredon Terrace where I started months ago, but when I visited there when the transfers still had that 24h restriction, there was no one online during the time I play (EU). It was really sad to see ET in the state it is, it is literally a ghost town…

3) to avoid excessive repair costs (if you’re broke)
Excessive? How broken are you people in game really?
It costs 10s if i got 1 item on redly broken.I can get 5x 6x more than that atleast before i have to pay 10s.
The repair costs are indeed excessive for some people, believe it or not. For example, I don’t have that much time to play GW2 and all that time is spent in WvWvW doing the stuff that gives you no rewards (escorting Dolyaks, scouting, defending, trebbin). I like doing the important stuff that other people find boring, but I get no rewards from it. That’s why I’m broke all the time and I perfectly understand if people want to ALT+F4 because of it.
I’m very tempted to ALT+F4 as well because of the ridiculous repair costs, but I only do it in cases that I feel I have been killed unjustly (by an invisible thief or zerg, because of a glitch etc). But other than that I’m more than glad to give loot bags to those that deserve them.
The heart of the problem there though is that the ‘system’ as it is designed is highly against defending. Meaning there is no reward most times for many hours whatsoever. No gold, no karma, no xp, not even any fun. What happens is that you spend a night chasing after some camps if your lucky which is irritating at best.
It’s true that Arenanet has done an awful job with the WvWvW rewards as only mindless zerging gets you personal rewards, but I also blame the mindless zerg people for ruining WvWvW. Why should there always be personal gain in everything you do? WvWvW is not about karma and exp, it’s about your server.
I was on a server that had too many selfish people running around in zergs going after easy karma/exp all day long. No one cared about defending, scouting, escorting yaks etc. The best example I can tell you is that one day I was defending a fully upgraded tower alone, but I was doing fine because the enemy zerg was small and the tower was full of supply. I asked for help in the chat but the response I got was “chill out, let them take it, we will take it back later for easy karma!” My jaw hit the floor. We could have saved the tower if at least 3-4 would have come. But no. I lost all my will to fight for a server like that.
Fortunately not all servers are like that though. I transfered to Yak’s Bend last week and boy has it been a completely different experience. YB is full of great and unselfish people staying behind doing all the “boring” but necessary stuff like escorting Dolyaks, staying on watch in our towers, running supply and staying on a treb for hours. I love it, I really love it here! These YB people realize that WvWvW is not about personal gain, everyone fights for their server. And that’s why YB is doing fine even though TC and FA have more people (I’ve seen the outmanned buff on EB way too many times…).
So in conclusion, some blame goes to Anet for only rewarding mindless zerging in WvWvW but much more blame falls on people who don’t either understand WvWvW or just are in it for the personal gain. Unfortunately people in general are like that these days, everyone knows about their rights but no one seems to have any responsibilities. You can see that clearly in GW2 and WvWvW with too many people running after karma/exp and not caring if anyone remains behind to defend.
/end of rant
Oh and I almost forgot to say that I’ve never had this much fun in WvWvW than I’m having right now. Looks like our tiny EU guild has found a permanent home in YB if I just can get my other guildies to transfer here.
(edited by Xavier.2176)
Me and my small guild are getting really tired of our current server and tier. The tier has become very uneven because one server received many new guilds. Also, our server has too many people and commanders who seem to know nothing about Wx3. Everyone’s just running around aimlessly, not coming to defend when a tower needs help, running past Dolyaks that need help etc. Really frustrating and not fun at all.
Tier 3 seems to be the most fun and even to me (I’ve been following the rankings for a while now). I’d really love to transfer there. I don’t care about winning at all, but I do care about smart tactics, having fun and fighting till the end, so can anyone recommend which of the 3 servers could be the best fit for us? I’ve heard some good stuff about Yak’s bend (how they’re mature people and know how to WvWvW even though they don’t have great numbers). Anyone want to shed some more light on tier 3? Thanks.
the WvW Population needs to be balanced out or there is going to be alot of major issues
keep it simple since there are 3 teams no 1 team should out number the other 2 teams combined
say Red has 15 players and Blue has 20 players
Green should have a limit of 35 placed on them
I do want to see more balance in WvWvW, but this is the worst possible idea ever. A server should never be punished just for having more players.
The best and only reasonable way to help the outmanned servers is to make the Outmanned Buff useful and helpful. It would be a simple change for Anet to do, I have no idea why they haven’t done it already. For example, make the Outmanned Buff to give the outmanned side some stat boosts so they do have a chance to fight against bigger numbers. Also, it would be great if upgrades would cost less for the outmanned side because who sane person would waste money on upgrades if they know the money will just go to waste.
My idea would be to have a Gradual Outmanned system like this for example:
Slightly Outmanned ( +10% to all stats, -25% upgrade costs)
Outmanned ( +20% to all stats, -50% upgrade costs)
Seriously Outmanned ( +30% to all stats, -75% upgrade costs)
I know it’s not a perfect solution, but it’s the only reasonable one in my opinion. An outmanned buff working like that would give the outmanned server a better chance to fight against big numbers and would probably make more people join the battle and upgrade towers/keeps due to lower upgrade costs.
Another good idea that caught my eye in these forums some time ago was an idea of a NPC Army that generates for the outmanned server and randomly attacks enemy camps/towers/keeps to help the outmanned server. The NPC Army wouldn’t be anything too strong, but a serious enough threat to keep the spawn camping enemy server busy every now and then. For example, the army could be easily taken care of with a few siege weapons and defenders, but an unmanned tower/keep with no upgrades would fall to this NPC Army.
I know this one is much more harder to implement and I don’t know if it is even possible, but it would give some much needed help for the outmanned side and also make the PvDooring side to have at least some challenge if all the human players have gone to sleep.
Thanks for making this thread, Kita. I completely agree.
I despise all those bandwagon fairweather guilds that change server the moment things aren’t going well. Many servers have been ruined and turned into ghost towns because of this. We can only hope Arenanet does something about this soon (get rid of free server transfers) but that seems unlikely…
WvW is the only thing keeping me playing.
Yeah, same here. Please never stop Wx3 for any silly PVE event, thanks.
This is going to be a tough week for Kaineng and Ferguson because DR is everywhere… Can’t wait for the day when Devona is promoted up a tier.
Oh well, I should not complain about numbers as that’s just how WvWvW works. We simply have to work harder but it seems like everyone on Kaineng has already given up…
I love being a guardian as well. I’ve tried some other classes but I always come back to my awesome Sylvari Guardian who is very tough to take down!
However, I do hate the fact that we don’t have a great ranged weapon to use. Scepter is our only option and it just plain sucks. But other than that, the Guardian class is perfect.
