Well before your thread gets locked with the ususal comment that reporting bots should be done in-game I have to agree that it takes them too long to do something about it. The economy is affected already, by what degree is anyone’s guess, but it definitely affects the legitimate players in a negative way.
The thread “about bots and what we are doing about it” is over a month old. I am no expert but it seems to me that this should be enough time to gather data.
Maybe they are not so keen on solving the issue as they want it to appear. I saw a group of 6 bots also in the same guild running in circles teleporting towards mobs. I reported them but it does not seem to have any consequences short term or medium term to those accounts.
So either ANet has a really good long-term solution or just wants to silence the issue as much as possible. I hope for the first.
At least spamming via mail by goldsellers has gone done.

Well, Arenanet really drives people to the gold sellers because
a) EVERYTHING costs tons of money in this game + it’s hard to earn money regularily
b) the gold sellers sell at a MUCH better rate than Arenanet

The problem starts with the players that want everything asap. This is a question of character and maturity.
See I am fine with things being expensive and even though I could afford to buy lots of gems or from goldsellers (I will never do that though) I won’t. I like the feeling of accomplishment, to earn something. So if it takes me a year to get great gear etc. I am fine with that and once I accomplish this it will feel great.
Many players do not want to wait that long and need everything here and now but they want to pay as little as possible hence your point b) being valid.
ANet needs to have some things in the game that either take a long time to get or will cost you money.
On a last note: I do not find it that difficult to earn money in the game. Do some clever trading, crafting, events etc. and you have enough but not to afford everything. Again this needs a change of attitude from players.
@GaileGray
Yes any kind of third party buying of gold etc. will damage the game as it shifts balance, the economy and creates unpredicted problems. I fully agree.
To answer the OP’s: I believe that ANet should consider banning (temp or perma) gold buyers. I am sure they have ways to investigate this. I do not think that they have to be too hard and too frequent on this as I believe that a buyer of gold will come to the forums and moan. The word will spread that accounts are being banned for buying third party gold and though this might not solve the problem altogether but it will decimate the business of the sellers.
People will think twice or three times before they buy gold and risk losing the account.
Welcome America to the world. The timezone is set to Greenwich time which for a global product makes sense. If it was linked to the local time then your buddy from the west coast could not play with you on the east coast (of the USA) or the times would be wrong again.
I am sure OP will eventually get over it, you only have yourself to blame and now you know and you learned something.
“Kick in the nuts”?! Stop being so melodramatic.
Thank you for the news and your efforts.
Regarding our efforts in reporting bots: I reported 2 bots yesterday although there were many more present in Brisban but stopped reporting them as I feared a ban on my account as your policy states that the chat log is the main factor. I cannot see how this would work with bots but it put me off.
I understand that ANet needs to put off people sending wrong reports but you should not discourage valid reports.
So I hope the reports I send will still be looked at and those bots banned (they were standing and teleporting towards mobs for hours in the same area, so everything I read about bots fitted).
If I made an invalid report due to the lack of chat-log evidence I would like to hereby apologize for it.
Hi I would like to suggest a method to possibly improve account safety.
It would be nice if we could block log-in attempts from certain regions or even countries of the world.
I do not want to sound prejudice but my friend had 48 attempted logins (over night) all from Chinese locations and myself I had 3 of them from China as well.
We changed our passwords already but this makes me think if say the regions of Asia, Africa, North and South America would block a login due to a regional block set in my account this would give us more security.
I understand there might be some issues with people moving etc. but it should be customizable for the account holder.
Yes, it is not a race to level 80 because then you might get bored soon. Enjoy the ride to level 80 and wherever it may take you.
Any profession gives decent XP.
The problem lies with the attitude of the players and not the game. The “I want this now mentality” is bad for this type of game. Yes someone spent 4 days farming for token or so to get what he wanted asap. But could this not be something you could take some months to achieve and split it up rather than doing the same task over and over again.
Take your time.
That is poor logic. Are you saying that someone who plays a game avidly should be penalized because they have a lot of free time? If I spend 6 hours playing a game while you spend 1 hour playing the game every day, why should I be on the same plane or level as you? That is not how a game should be built so I doubt that was the reason for the increasingly lowered drop rate. Also, a “full time job” doesn’t mean you can’t play for 6-8 hours per day. I know plenty of people ages 35 and up who are friends of mine with full time jobs who play this game for 6-10 hours per day. There are more then 40 hours in a week, what you do with the other time is up to you.
Penalized? No, but discourage farming and botting. So it is not poor logic but one that you seem not to understand or like. And the ones with 6-10 hours and a job surely have no wife or children or any other life (or do not sleep). I think you did not get my point. And yes you will be further ahead nevertheless but with the daily kills progress etc. someone with less time on their hands can still make progress effectively. And the people who have 1-3 hours per day to spend are the majority of players.
If you don’t like this then I suggest you play Diablo 3 instead.
We should talk again once you have a full time job and a family, maybe then you understand that those 20 h spent farming for one item or so is not an option anymore. And the time spent should still give you the sense of progress and it does.
A bit like ordering a meal in the best restaurant in town and then throwing it down your throat without chewing or tasting it properly and then go complain that it was not that good for the price.
If you are already level 80 you rushed things not necessarily by total playtime but how you spread it out. It is just not a race to get to level 80 asap. You ruined the game for yourself and I suggest finding another hobby away from the PC to keep you occupied. Try sports or art. If you play just 1-3 h per day on GW2 it will last much longer and the overall experience is better imho.
So if you are bored with the game already you can only blame yourself.
This sounds like a classic case of “working as intended” to me. I am pretty sure that this happens to prevent botting and gold farming. I could be wrong but I am almost certain that this is intentional.
If that is the case then I welcome this. So you can farm a bit but discourage botting and gold farming. I hope that is the way it works so that “normal” people with a full time job can also proceed in the game and not only players with 6-8 h daily logins. Good choice by ANet
Also consider that not everyone sees the game as a competition and fierce rivalry. Some people are just kind to others, even strangers and feel good about having helped someone. I know this is rare nowadays and absent in most online games but I welcome it.
