Current mesmer state and ways to improve it

I only read 2 sections but I disagree on both and I think you are aiming in the wrong direction.

Clones / Phantasms die to cleave, so you want more. The real solution is fix cleave by giving AoE immunity (Or damage reduction) so they don’t get killed immediately. Increasing generation is a bandage that will impact other areas.

Then you don’t like Torment so you want it changed to Confusion. Again the real solution is to make Torment useful. I even think Torment fits a Mesmer just as well as Confusion.

I will read the rest later, but bare in mind that you need to fix the source of problems not just avoid them.

I don’t want more .The game is ok right now ! (beside the expansion is coming ) I just want some more clear rewards system (example : if I’m full ascended and I go make fractals or teq at the end I will recive a specific kind of item that if I collect enuf I will get that specific armor or weapon skin not some chest with low chance for an drop

Thank you all for replays and opinions !

I get you. All for removing the random but i am not sure the game has enough to want that giving an obvious path wouldn’t result in people getting things too fast, random keeps people playing.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

My issues as a new player:

1. Rewards I can’t get since I don’t have close to 10 gold never mind the 60 I could spend.
2. No idea where zones are and no way to get to half of them. And no idea how to find out IN GAME.
3. Zerg > flashy > dead. I can’t see what is going on with so much flash all over the screen. Maybe not specifically an event problem, but not an issue with my usual duo play.
4. No rewards. I dropped nothing from the first event and have no intention of going back for more.

SOLUTIONS
1. Rewards drop from either kills or event completion in a standard way (x from bonze, 2x for silver etc).
2. Turn in rewards for things that don’t cost additional gold (Or do you expect me to buy and convert gems?)
3. Less flash. A tutorial on ‘green patches mean this, blue patches mean that’ so I know what to stand in.
4. A single default waypoint to event zones or at least a waypoint and directions.

I already have ascended .Now I just wander around kill some mobs for some claws/organs or green items and don’t have an specific goal.

For me will be better if the system be like this : Do “that” to get “this” ( even if is super hard ) .Not do “that” and maybe maybe you get a piece that need to be combined with other parts (that are also random loot) to create “that”

This is my personal opinion and if you fell offended please just ignore my post . Thank you!

Your issue is that no matter how hard or time consuming something is you will finish it and be back where you started. MMO devs learned that they can’t please those people who always want moar nao!

Rewards have never been what attracts me to a game, but unobtainable rewards (Either via time, friend requirements or other) do put me off games, and I am far from alone.

Meta or be creative?

in Mesmer

Hi guys,

Nowadays everything just about meta builds.
What if a mesmer for example not a meta build, but something what is rather unusal in normal groups but it can survive and play along well with others?
That kind of character would deserve a kick from other players, just because not following the trend?

I would like to hear your opinion my fellow mesmer brothers and sisters.

Depends on your audience. As with every mmo 90% of players will have no idea about the meta and everyone talking on forums fails to realise it.

When HoT Starts...

People who can’t just wait a few hours mystify me. There is no reward for logging in first and you are not losing anything.

Specifically I don’t get why you are worried to miss the start? If you log in late it isn’t like you don’t get HoT, it isn’t a time limited expansion.

Really, if you think GW2 dungeons are fun and the raids should build up on what we got there, I really hope you will get disappointed.

I have seen games take this approach before, where new content is designed for new players not those who currently play and it almost always fails.

I have never done a dungeon yet (Brand new) and no idea about what I want from the raids but if dungeons are successful content in GW2 (Going by participation not opinion) then changing the paradigm is very risky.

Those who really dislike the gameplay have already left by and large, those still around are here because they like what is currently on offer and are the people that new content should be aimed at.

Could be worse OP. I bought GW2 2 days before the announcement because I didn’t want to spend more not knowing if I liked it. And seems I don’t qualify for the refund either.

I do like it so have dropped for HoT twice afterwards (GF and me). Don’t mind paying for HoT, but they got my extra money due to no trial accounts.

You know what? Its only £20.

Passive is best.

This.

I have seen people say that these powers proc at bad times, which is a good reason to remove them, but just because you don’t like passive is not a good idea.

Good game design allows passive and active, passive gives a set amount of power which can be trumped by well executed active powers, but not so weak that people don’t want them.

Yeah, because with trinity mmos, I never hated this part at ALL…

“3 DPS lf 1 healer, 1 tank”

3 hours later…

“3 DPS lf 1 healer, 1 tank”

The other two in my group turn to me and beg me to please play my healer or tank so we can just GO already.

And the whole WoW lfg finder only sort of fixed things, because 3 dps will still wait around for healers and tanks to join, when a healer or tank a group pops immediately (especially if you’re a healer).

Yeah, that was fun never playing dps because nobody wants to be a healer or tank when the dps charge forward then blame you for not taunting enough or not healing enough.

Forget that crap. I’m happy that people have to not be dain bramaged and know how to dodge, how to take care of themselves, how to stack boons and strip conditions and play as a team. And if you don’t think that’s what happens in pve and wvw and even pvp, then I hope you get the opportunity to play with more experienced individuals in the future.

Experienced members of GW2, take a newbie under your wing, bring the community up. This trinity stuff pops up most on the forums from people who don’t understand how the game is supposed to function and have only played trinity mmos and rpgs. Lets change some hearts and minds when you see it in game.

You just compared the bad people who play trinity to the good people who play GW2.

Not advocating either but the good people who play trinity help bring up new players just like the good players in GW2 and the bad players in GW2 still run around as heedlessly as the bad players in trinity.

2) It’s a MMO. The whole point of that type of game is to play with other people. There is a WHOLE other type of game if you like GW2 but only want to play solo. It’s a single player RPG and most of those have better story and gameplay than GW2.

I love people like you who are 100% right all the time. How very dare the OP try and play alone in YOUR game!

Its end game content, I seriously hope they don’t buy into giving it out pre 80. If they do I have an entire list of requests I fully expect them to give me.

Classes* are not content. Multiple games make that mistake and all of them undo it later.

People who are already invested in the game will play it anyway, people who aren’t invested are the ones tempted by the new classes are not going to play until level 80 just to try it.

All I have read so far is “Waaah I had to level so should you”.

*I am aware it is not a class, but changes gameplay to such an extent that it might as well be.

I have only played for about 2 weeks prior to beta (Level 25 in live) so don’t have enough experience to really comment on the changes but I really enjoyed playing around with the various builds and had a lot of fun, which is the entire point of the game so I think a “well done” is deserved.

Loving Alacrity

Maybe wrong but I thought a Staff based condition build was most fun, and felt the most powerful too. Just going to be hard when I do reach level 80 and don’t get all that gear for free!

I have more things then you, (permanent merchant, airship pass, royal terrace pass, home portal stone etc) then you, and Even to me it doesnt bother. Keep the top bank tab clear. Send all your items there, reveive on other char, set, takes like 3 min.

Why is there always one person who doesn’t want a quality of life improvement?

I haven’t got any of those items yet it makes perfect sense.

Even further items like that should be accessible on an account wide menu so no swapping at all is needed. Just let people get the full benefit without the hassle.

You are all talking from the position of someone who has a level 80 already, and most expansions (Including this one if the free 2 play is anything to go by) is about attracting new players.

New players want the new content quickly and having to wait until the level cap to unlock features has been tried in almost every mmo and is always a decision they reverse later on admitting it was a bad one.

I only bought GW2 a few weeks ago, specifically to play Chronomancer and having to wait until level 80, and by the sounds of this then spend a long time getting the extra point just to play it sucks.

So I have played Mesmer until ~25 then level 80 Chronomancer in beta and there is very little difference by way of playstyle so excuses about ‘learning’ are irrelevant.

I understand wanting to award the high levels, but class choices like this are a bad way of doing it.

Chronomancer / Domination / Illusions

in Mesmer

Posted by: Yvi.5762

Yvi.5762

Hi all,

First post so be nice

I am brand new to GW2 (Not MMO’s though) and Mesmer is my first character. I am only level 20 so far so have limited knowledge of the game but in my downtime I have been reading a few of the Mesmer guides and I am not quite sure they cover what I am after. I am one of those who needs to know the destination in order to enjoy the journey.

So this starts with a build, based on the current Chronomancer powers as shown on the gw2skills editor .

The specific build I have come up with is designed around rapid creation of illusions (Not planning to let them to much fighting so clone / phantasm doesn’t matter much to me) and shattering them as soon as possible, feeding them non-stop at the enemy in order to cause damage and inflict multiple conditions (Single shatters deal less damage than multiple shatters, but damager per illusion is higher so I will keep them to singles and doubles mostly).

I have gone with Sword / Sword for general use and melee survivability, with Staff for range and improving condition generation.

The specific build I have picked is Chronomancer / Domination / Illusions with Illusionary Reversion (A skill that I scarcely believe to be real) allowing for a constant stream of illusions for shattering. I could probably go with Leap > Swordsman > Continuum shift > Diversion > Frustration > Continuum shift flips back > Diversion > Frustration > Leap > Swordsman > Signet of Ether > Swordsman > Mind Wrack .

Is this feasible / useful? Have I missed anything that would improve this style?

Also: Why did the word kitten end up in my post?

Edit: Silly me I missed out that this is to be a PvE build and will probably be open world and pug dungeons. I doubt I will ever get to raid etc.
