I think the biggest reason I’m against this, is we already have people complaining that there’s too few viable builds for each class. If we had meters, people would crunch numbers and we’d have even less. It creates the FOTM on steroids.
I also hate how it creates elite-isms in PVE. People being asked to leave groups, people being refused entry to groups because they don’t have the right build or the right skills…
I just prefer to leave some things in the dark.
Z
Yeah, they’re just like Blizzard, making you wait and wait for anything good to come out so they can take your money every month!
The nerve!
Be patient. They took their time releasing the game, and have much more planned… I’m sure they know what they’re doing because what we already have rocks.
Z
because pvp is about spike dmg and not continuous dps as pve is and thus dmg meters are completely and utterly useless to pvp players with a brain
Agreed… especially in pvp theres SO much more to being good than the damage you do. We don’t need no shtinking meters!
Z
It’s practice and an introduction to the maps… when I want to “warm up” or practice a new build or class I play 8v8. There’s always plenty of people running around to fight.
Another reason I feel they leave it at 8v8 is because so many people leave the game if they’re losing. If it was 5v5 and 2 people left the losing team, it’s now 5v3. If it’s 8v8 and 2 weenies leave, there’s still 6…
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Z
Simple fix for this… if you live in Europe play on the EU servers, and if you live in the US play on US servers.
See how easy this is to fix?
Z
They posted elsewhere that all recipes WILL be available for crafting indefinitely IF you have the mats…
Z
I don’t get it… why would anyone even “want” an endless tonic?
Z
Yes… yes I am. (and I’m expecting them to go a lot higher than 12g)
Z
I bought around 40 skins… it’s going to be a good 2013.
Z
I spent around 1 hour in the Laby and got an exotic from killing a Champ, 2 yellows, 3-4 greens and plenty of blues.
I don’t think they nerfed it at all.
Z
No… the shoulders, the daggers and the rifle skin are all going for less then 2g… the only ones above that are the ghastly shield, greatsaw and the scythe.
What’s this guy smoking?
SHOW ME how you get the shoulders, dagger and rifle for under 2g…
Z
What?
HOW can you get them for 2g15s? Or even 4g?
Your math is way off.
Z
I just came to the forum to see exactly what I’d have to do to get one of the weapons, and I’m TERRIBLY disappointed.
For starters, I’m a sPvP person. I rarely leave the Mists, and it’s already pretty sad that since I don’t pve much I’m a low level outside of there. IE; All my guildmates have great looking armor and weapons and I’m stuck wearing crap looking padded leather. I don’t leave the Mists often, but it’s sad as hell that with 200+ hours played I look like a pauper and have around 80 silver to my name when I do.
Yeah yeah, I look great when in the Mists, but 90% of the time I’m in a match and am chaged to red or blue anyway… anyway, that’s not my point…
My point is I thought "since I don’t PvE much I can leave the Mists and PvE for this event and get some special/great looking stuff.
Pfffft.
I mentioned above, that since I PvP I only have around 80 silver… so I already know, here at the START of the event, that even if I PvE’d 10 hours a day, there’s not a CHANCE I can get a permanent weapon skin without spending RL $… and even if I do buy a dozen keys, from what I read here, the chance is still almost zilch.
I can’t afford to buy the items from the TP because I have 80 silver… and don’t have the time to farm them.
I feel that even though I’ve played close to 250 hours that I’m totally jacked for choosing to PvP…
Come ON ANET! Throw us a bone and give us a way to get something while PvPing that we can wear OUTSIDE of PvP, AND let me have “some” credit for my 250 hours that I can apply towards the skins.
Howbout letting us buy the skins with 50,000 Glory?
It sucks that these will be so rare… and of course the skins will the sell for 500 gold each too.
The rich get richer.

Best Pvp strategy for Ranger. Switch to a different class. Seriously.
I watched a friend play her Ele in WvW today and I almost cried when I saw how much more damage she was putting out compared to my Ranger.
Rangers are good for solo PvE in easy areas. Good PvE beginner class.
It used to be good for PvP in Beta before the GS was overnerfed. Now it is a beginner class.
(and don’t forget about the Shortbow nerf with the recent patch)
This is ridiculous. I own people with my ranger when I’m playing well… ranger can bunker, 1v1, roam. There’s a lot of room in the PvP game for them.
Z
I don’t feel either of them is OP… I can beat either with my ranger or guardian 75% of the time.
What I DO think i OP is their downed states… with my guardian I knock people away and 3 seconds later I’m dead. My ranger? Forget knocking anyone anywhere, I’m just dead, period. Pretty much the same with elementalist, certainly with warrior. Necro you turn and run a few secs then they’re dead.
Mesmer and thief and their invis and tp’ing around is ridiculous… it takes so long to finish them off 50% of the time a certain kill with any other class ends up with help coming and saving them because it just takes too long.
Z
LOL… you say necro is terrible, then you say you always win 1v1’s?
Which is it?
And if you beat 3 people alone with your warrior, they must have been 3 blind people. I can’t remember the last time a warrior beat my ranger or my guardian.
Z
So make it even harder to play with friends? Bad idea…
If you feel that TWO people on the same team make it that unbalanced, you really need to study builds or strategies or something and just get better. Two people that play together make no real difference in a team of 8 even if vs 8 random.
If it’s that bad play tourny or make some friends.
Z
If they don’t give timed points just for standing there, maybe add a defensive bonus that’s given at the end?
Z
So, is sPvP basically only for Necros, Mesmers, Thieves, and Elementalists?

It’s interesting the classes you seem to favor. I also play a ranger…
I rarely lose (I’d guess I win 8.5 of 10) 1v1 to an elementalist or necro, easy stuff… but I HATE going 1v1 against an engineer and lose 75%. Thieves and mesmersit’s 50/50 depending on their playing skills, warr’s and guards I can beat most of the time.
It’s just odd how we both play the same class and have trouble and beat different classes than one another. I think it’s in our heads and varies more by build than class.
Z
Please give us spvp gear progression. 10% difference from baseline-best.

I AGREE with the “NO”!" stand 100%…
BUT please let us wear the PvP gear (looks only w/trans) outside of the Mists!
Most of my friends aren’t into PvP and have lev 80 PvE characters. I hardly leave the Mists and am low character level. Occasionally I leave to go to a guild meeting or run a dungeon and I look like crap because I have level 10 gear, and all of my friends are sporting great looking stuff.
It’s depressing. (and I’ve put a lot more time into my char!)
Why can’t people have the “looks” of their gear anywhere? Let the people who have high level PvE gear wear it in the Mists (cosmetic only) and let us have the looks of our high level PvE gear outside.
What makes it even worse is that we’re turned red/blue when we’re in a game anyway, so even IN the Mists all of our work to earn great looking stuff is wasted unless we want to hang around outside of the game maps doing nothing showing off our kittens.
No stats change, just looks… we work hard for it, let us wear it anywhere.
Z
We’ve given him at least 5 solutions to make it “easier” to fight mesmers. For every bit of help we give him, he gives back some excuse about how we’re wrong.
I play a ranger. By using the suggestions I wrote above, I can beat mesmers 1 on 1 more times than not. (I’d say 70% of the time I win) However, he lets all the help pass right through his head without listening.
This guy has it stuck in his head that they can’t be beat and are OP… so he will NEVER beat them. No matter how much help we give him he’ll continue to believe they’re OP in his mind, so it’ll never change. It’s all in his head at this point, and nothing anyone says will change his mind.
It’s sad that so many people have tried to help…
Z
2- When you first see a mesmer in the game, you and the rest of your team MARK’s the mesmer before he spawns anything else. Problem solved… the clones do NOT copy the mark. Kill the mesmer.
Except,it doesn’t work with decent Mesmers. Teleporting removes the mark.Clearly, you just read this somewhere, didn’t you.
Then you REPLACE the mark. It’s one button. I don’t need the mark, I just can tell who the mesmer is and attack him.
I was trying to help the OP, Clearly you’re in as tough a spot as he is, lol.
Z
I don’t think mesmer is OP. YES, they’re tough, but there’s several ways to beat them.
1- When there’s a handful of clones, RUN away 20 steps. The clones won’t follow you. The mesmer will. Kill the mesmer.
2- When you first see a mesmer in the game, you and the rest of your team MARK’s the mesmer before he spawns anything else. Problem solved… the clones do NOT copy the mark. Kill the mesmer.
3- The mesmer is the guy moving around compared to standing in one place. Kill the mesmer.
Now those spirit rangers always get me! I never know if I should attack the character or those spirits.
Z
Some good ideas, thanks…
I wasn’t trying to find the “best” class, what I’m trying to decide is what’s most in demand. What’s is the one class teams seem to be looking for when putting together a match.
I’m already pretty good with the Ranger, although I know I can get much better and will keep practicing. I’m just looking for a 2nd class to work on as well.
Z
Guy’s not even playing GW2, playing some war game.
Z
So what do you guys think about those cookie cut builds warrior and thief are useing?
in PvP

Defense specs slow down death…dont prevent it…tried a sword N board defensive spec warrior for a while…3100 armor/ 26k hp…still some dps spec thieves slaughtered it…which is sad…kinda defeats the basic paper rock scissor concept…like they pick and choose when this cliche should be used in game and when it doesnt go
Sometimes that’s all your job is though… stay alive long enough for help to come.
I sometimes play a defensive ranger and I can also hold off 2-3 people for a decent amount of time. 1v1 vs a thief I’m history… vs a warrior I usually win.
Z
I “main” a ranger that I alternate from sb power to condition builds on, and can play a trap build as well. I find I do the best with my condition build but play each decently in sPvP. For the most part, I consider myself above average with the ranger.
I also have a Guard, Engi, and Elem I’ve played with a bit, but not seriously. I’ve not played a thief, warr, necro or mesmer.
I want to get serious with a 2nd class in addition to the ranger.
What class is most sought out by mid-high level teams that there seems to be in demand, or a shortage of?
Z
Join a game with 14-15 people in it.
Z
This will never happen my friend.
As for you spending just as much time in game as your guild mates and looking like crap compared to them because they have earned their gear in WvWvW/PvE.Put the shoe on the other foot.
You have earned your cool looking gear in sPvP so when they come in sPvP they look like crap compared to you.
You cant have it all ways, if you wanna look good outside of sPvP then you need to invest the time.
The shoe shouldn’t have to be put on the other foot… and you CAN have it both ways. I’ve already “invested the time”, I have more hours played than most the level 80’s in this game.
The people who earn gear in WvW or PvE SHOULD be allowed to wear it in the Mists… cosmetically. Gear you earn should be able to be worn ANYWHERE, there shouldn’t be two sets of gear for two different places.
It’s ridiculous and has never been done on another game. It’s taking the genre backwards a step.
Z
Engi vs Elem of the same skills and the Elem is dead in 20 seconds… and theres no comparison how much better the Engi is for the team.
Engineer ALL the way.
Z
I prefer to PvP over PvE and two things really suck.
One, is when I leave the Mists I’m broke. Flat broke… I had to borrow copper to teleport to a WP.
Secondly, PLEASE let us wear our PvP earned armor outside of the Mists! My guild has events/meetings and the such, and our level 80 pro-pve’er slook great, and I have a set of studded leather armor.
I’ve put in just as many hours as they have, but the armor I earn can’t be seen, and when I go into a game it’s changed blue or red.
The way it is now, it’s a waste of effort to get the better looking stuff unless you intend to stand somewhere in the Mists and show off your kitten. If you’re “playing” or leave the Mists it’s useless.
Z
I feel SB/LB is redundant… no need to have both is PvP. I prefer S or L/bow and Axe/Torch.
I can light people up with either, have a slow, and the ae of the SB or CC of long.
Z
Sorry OP, but you’re just plain wrong. Elementalist isn’t underpowered or weak, just hard to learn, because it really emphasizes a lot of the things that are different between GW2 combat and standard MMO combat.
If you know how to play, it’s plenty viable. And don’t give me that nonsense saying “BUT IF YOU DON’T KNOW-” I don’t care. If you don’t know how to play, you’re going to fail, period, regardless of profession. Doesn’t matter how much work that knowing is. Some are going to be easier than others. This happens in all other MMOs, and yet people still complain about it, as if it’s ever going to change.
Elementalist is the profession you play when you want something complex. You either deal with it, or reroll, but don’t you dare say it’s not viable, when itkittenwell is.
This is wrong… maybe it IS harder to learn and harder to master… but take an equal skilled player with the same level of mastery in ANY of the other classes, and not only is the elementalist dead 1v1 BUT doesn’t bring as much to the table as the rest in a group fight.
It just doesn’t have the sturdiness or damage that other classes have.
Z
Having played every class in sPVP (the only thing that matters, and shows how each class fares vs. another), Elementalists are a joke, a complete joke. They’re a free kill with a terrible downed state being the only class that cannot interrupt a stomp.
Well put.
In sPvP Elementalist is just bad. Unless it’s a highly skilled elem vs a bad player with ANY of the other classes, the elem is toast. You can argue that it’s not a 1v1 class, and that may be true, but you have to be able to hold your own 1v1 because it’s inevitable that you’re going to be put in that situation, like it or not. If you die every time you meet someone 1v1 you’ll spend most of the game lying on your back or running to fights.
Even if you never 1v1 somehow, it still doesn’t do much more than anyone else in the big scheme of things.
Z
I have played over 200 sPvP games, around 75% pickup and 25% tournament… and I have never even SEEN an elementalist. What does that tell you?
I’m sure they’re out there, but there’s a reason they’re hardly played in Spvp.
Z
My character is level 30-something… but almost level 16 in sPvP. I love my guild, but the people in it don’t PvP much, and many are level 80.
I may never hit level 80 because I like to PvP. When I leave to go to guild meetings/events, they’re all in their lev 80 gear they’ve earned, and I’m in my level 28 studded leather… and look like crap. Heck, I can’t even wear it (cosmetically) in WvW!!
I’ve put in just as much time as they have, I deserve to at least “look” good when outside of the Mists. Heck, even in the Mists when I go into a game it’s blue or red.
PLEASE vote and bump this thread up and ask for us to let us transmute our sPvP gear! I don’t want the stats, just the look…
If the offside is each of our characters has its own PvP locker so I can’t feed good looking armor to my leve 2 alt, sobeit… or if that’s a problem, make us have to be level 60 to transmute it in the “outer world”, but PLEASE give us some option!

It’s buggy, it’s still going, next time you login you’ll likely see it.
Z
You get better looking gear, things used to make better looking gear, rank points and glory.
The gear rocks, what sucks is nobody will ever see it, because you can’t wear it outside of the Mists, and in games it’s all turned red/blue anyway. A huge detriment to the bother IMO.
Z
That sucks. My friends are all WvW kittens… I like it ocassionally. I love sPvP and nobody ever sees my stuff.
Z
And I’m just as disappointed about the opposite! I don’t “pve” much, but I pvp all the time… my guildies look great out in the world, and I am forced to wear lower level bleh stuff… after hours working to get great looking pvp gear, nobody sees it.
At LEAST let us wear our sPvP stuff in WvW? Just cosmetic of course…
Z
I don’t PvE much, but I LOVE sPvP… I’m a mid-high level pvp rank, but I’m a lower level “character” rank.
The majority of my guild are much higher level and sporting some REALLY great looking armor and weapons they’ve got doing pve dungeons, etc.. I have great looking pvp stuff, but when I come out “into the world” I look like any other low level.
I spent just as much time getting my armor as they did, but nobody sees it… not even in WvW.
I’ve tried transmuting… but it won;t work. Does anyone know a way I can wear my pvp goodies into the world? I don’t want the attributes, just the skins/cosmetic with my pve stats.
It sucks when we WvW together, they’re all looking fine, and I have studded leather.
And if it’s not possible… (I SO HOPE IT IS!) why not? No matter where we are in the game, let us show cosmetically at least, what we’ve earned.
I hope someone can tell me how to do this…

The Order of the Silver Hand
Established- Sep 3rd, 1999 (Asheron’s Call)
www.theorderofthesilverhand.com
Who Else Wants to Join an Established Guild That Has a Super Reputation, Values People Over Winning, AndTreats its Members Like Family?
Tired of Logging in and Your Guild is Gone? That Will NOT Happen Here!
The Order of the Silver Hand (TOSH) is a thirteen year old guild that killed its first mob together on November 2nd, 1999 in Asheron’s Call… and have created long-time friendships in many games since!
In Asheron’s Call we grew to be one of the most active guilds in the game, and have been in dozens of games since. The “Silver Hand” name is recognized and well known among many long-time gamers, and has allied and fought alongside some of the biggest and best known clans and guilds in the MMORPG genre.
We’re looking for new family members for both PvE and PvP to join our tanks in GW2!
If you’ve joined guilds before that were active for a few weeks, then slowly disappeared, or you logged on one day to find yourself “guildless” and your guild no longer in the game, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a good chance that we’ll outlive most of the other guilds on the server! We know this from experience, we’re here for the long term, not a flash in the pan.
We value fun and friendship over “winning at all costs” and although we have some extremely hardcore players and members, we enjoy the journey to end-game as much as the destination….
…we’re looking for casual pve players who want to work together to traverse the worlds of GW2, as well as those that lean towards pvp to help capture world pvp targets. In addition, for those who dare, we’re looking for a more competitive group to compete on a higher level and round out a team or two in the ranked pvp brackets. (our founder was on a team that held the #1 spot in GW1 for a period of time)
Although structured and always thinking about guild events and activities, we are non-military, and have very few rules besides “have fun”, and “don’t make the guild look bad”.
We’re a mature group, most of our members usually average from 25-40 years of age, (even though some members have socks that are 25 years old) but we welcome players of all ages and all levels. We don’t judge people by age, but by actions… and expect all members to do the same. We try to keep our chats as clean as possible, but realize that sometimes the passion of the moment can overwhelm us…
We expect to be a medium sized guild, with players focusing on all aspects of the game. To join us, we won’t expect you to be interviewed by 11 members, send a blood sample, and write a 46 page application backwards in Gaelic to be accepted. We’ll assume you’re a “keeper”, and boot you later if not, lol.
After proving ones self character-wise, we hope to have new members take responsibility within the guild as well, IF that’s something you’re interested in. Leaders are welcome!
Find us on the Ehmry Bay server! (it’s worth the transfer!)
