I don’t know if they’ve mentioned any specifics on trait changes, and excuse my ignorance as I haven’t played since…not long after launch. I’m just wondering if after whatever changes they plan on implementing, that you’ll still have to wait 30 levels before you can even start getting traits? I’ve thought about returning to the game, but that really kills my enthusiasm that for so long during the leveling process you’re not building your character in that way.

I was actually thinking about coming back to this game. Haven’t played since…launch, really. I felt the urge, and then I saw this thread. Wow, what a bad idea. It just sucks all the sense of progress at low to mid levels. Things will just be so…mundane and generic for almost all the leveling experience. I’ve really lost the urge to level a character now.

It depends heavily on the class. Elementalist, for example, is absolutely atrocious underwater. If there’s hearts or DEs to do underwater, I’ll do whatever method doesn’t involve actual combat. The damage is just painfully pathetic. Then you jump on an engineer, use grenades underwater and literally auto-attack kill things in 1/4 the time it takes an ele.

So basically…I don’t find the gameplay bad. But they need to do some massive balancing.

To many noobs in first video. Using 100 blades or whirling wrath without CC is stupid, guardians didn’t use teleport and bane signet, warriors without ranged weapon etc, etc. Thats what happens when not bad ele player plays against noobs. Btw, warrior can kill ele just using rifle, 2 skills for ~7-8k damage each and short cooldown.

Watching the necro spam epidemic in a 1v1, constantly applying vulnerability on himself made me want to bash my head against the wall. I swear the OP found the worst players to fight and cherry picked such encounters to make this ‘compilation’ video. That’s the problem with compilations: through editing they can selectively create any kind of representation they choose.

The skill challenge in the nw corner of the Plains of Ashford zone, around Tela Range, is bugged on this server. The skill icon appears on the map and mini-map, but no npc there.

One thing i do know is that the majority of these people crying will never be happy.

One thing I do know is that the insulting way in which to try and label anyone with concerns as a ‘crybaby’ or a poor player only serves to illustrate that you have no real argument to make.

Tanking 3 people and soloing 3 people are completly different. You shouldnt beable to hold off 3 people with a cloth wearing caster. And i wouldnt expect a guardian to do massive AoE damage and CC.
Do you people really think that all class should be on equal ground via play style.

You cannot roll solo as a Ele. You need to be in a group, not sure why thats a problem in “Structured PVP”.

I’m not saying the Ele is weak or strong. There are to many variables. But if you are asking ANET to give you the ability to tank(guardian) or STDPS or lol100blades, then you might as well ask for free gold, skins, and flying unicorn mounts that shoot rainbow out of there bholes….

I don’t think all classes should perform all roles equally. The problem with elementalist is that it doesn’t perform any role as well as other classes, who not only out-perform elementalists in one category, but usually several.

Should a warrior do severely more damage than an elementalist while having much greater survivability? While being infinitely ‘easier’ to play? How is that balanced? I don’t need to do the damage of a warrior, but I need some commensurate alternative advantage for the sacrifice. Why stance dance, pull off combos, kite like crazy just achieve par or sub-par results?

As far as your.. ‘You cannot roll solo as an Ele.’ ..do you really think that’s good game design?

Clearly you haven’t read the elementalist exploit listed on the gw2 subreddit to turn you into an unstoppable killing machine.

I have literally lost a single 1v1 in my time as a necromancer. It was against a ranger who blew me up so fast I still don’t know what happened. Other than that..have yet to see a class that can stand toe to toe vs. necro.

A lot of people missunderstand what people mean when they say the ele is weak, in PVE the proffesion is not weak in terms of being able to do content. The ele is weak compaired to other proffesions as they can do the same content BUT a lot easier along with less work (less button presses etc).

So it’s a case of, in PVE you’ll do just fine as an ele – however if you pick a different proffesion you’ll be able to do the same content a lot quicker and a with a lot less buttons.

This is the heart of the matter and what it’s really about. People will bicker back and forth about ‘learn to play’ and other nonsense that contributes nothing. But the -fact- is the person I quoted speaks truth. That is the core issue. At a certain point having to play so much better for equal (more likely lesser) results tends to get a bit frustrating and that’s what most people are upset about.

Why the Elementalist is Underpowered

I have two main problems with the class: melee viability and underwater combat.

First, melee. Our dagger weapons. They don’t do enough damage and they don’t have near enough damage mitigation. While other classes can switch to a ranged weapon if things get nasty; elementalists have no such option. If you’re using daggers you’re full melee. As such our daggers need to give us more defense than other classes, since we can’t get out of melee range without rendering ourselves obsolete. There are some tools, but not nearly enough and they’re far too weak.

Daggers need to provide things like protection, stability, vigor, and much better personal heals and regenerations. Things that affect the elementalist, not the entire group…as that has a tendency to get out of control and hard to balance. With no ranged alternative once we equip daggers we have to be able to stay in melee and keep ourselves alive. Right now we can’t…not even close. Especially with such low base health.

On top of that dagger damage needs a moderate buff. Melee is supposed to gain the advantage of superior damage due to the superior risk. This is true for other classes, but not for elementalist for some reason. Yeah you can tear out a decent fire burst once every 40 seconds but that’s hardly a consistent design.

Next, underwater combat needs a major damage buff. Seriously…it’s pathetic.

Last, downed state needs to be improved. The root is ok, but useless against a mob that kills you in melee (where our biggest problem is), and the vapor form takes too long to come off cd (usually defeated before it does), it doesn’t get the mob off you, and it doesn’t last long enough. Downed state needs some kind of chill (without having to trait) maybe, vapor could regenerate you while you’re moving, last longer and be impervious to conditions. And a way to get the mob off you for a little while would be nice too.

Other than that the class seems very nice. I like the staff and the sceptre and focus are decent and serve their purposes well. Melee however isn’t even an option and underwater is horrific. Fix those and we’ve got a class.

I’m trying to stick it out, since it is a very fun class to play. There’s really no class that is so active and requires so much micro-management. Maybe engineer, but that’s not my style. Anyway, I love those things about elementalist, but all that extra work and effort leads to sub-standard results. So I’m trying really hard to put fun first…but it ain’t easy.

People that say Ele is fine…probably don’t play an ele. I kinda thought all these complaints were silly, until I made an elementalist. It truly is a lot of work and effort for sub-standard results. I do love the hectic playstyle of stance dancing and comboing abilities. But the payoff just isn’t there. Other classes do more damage with far less effort, while also having greater survivability.

I’ll say in a group setting the elementalist is quite potent as others benefit greatly from your fields. So maybe that’s a reason ANet has decided to have elementalists rather weak going solo. I understand there’s really no reason not to group with other people, so maybe ‘solo potency’ isn’t a major concern of the designers. Hopefully that’s not the case.

By the way..for the love of God buff underwater damage. It is PITIFUL.

Dude, necro is the weakest class in s-pvp if you don’t believe that then go play with some warriors or guardians against or with them, and see for yourself.

Obviously you’re doing something wrong, since Necro wrecks either of those classes. Or any class, for that matter. It’s the most powerful class in the game.

At least I haven’t met any class that can beat me.

Trait consecrations for longer duration, shorter cd and ground targetable. Sanctuary lasts like 12 seconds on minute and a half cd. Between that and 8 second staff 5 you can keep an entire enemy team from coming through narrow openings or up ramps for 20 seconds. Plus I think you could add hammer 5 to that for another 5+ seconds. It’s pretty ridiculous.

What about the grenade kit? Any chance to make them throwable directly at the enemy instead of area targeting? The same behavior as underwater. If not all of them at least the first skill so it can be set to auto-cast. This will really easy the pain on out fingers.

I’d definitely be in favor of an auto-attack skill 1 rather than the area targeting. Nerf the damage if necessary to make that happen.

After just watching the Maguuma server cheat to kill the castle lord (and us), it turns out you can aoe target the upper room where the lord resides through the floor from the room below. You won’t even aggro him, but can damage him and anyone around him. Just stand in the room below and spam your aoes at the ceiling.

Testing out the Elixir Gun. Tooltip for Elixir F says 6 second cripple, 6 second swiftness. Both last 3 seconds, not 6.

5. Kits: Upon swapping to different kits, the auto-attack functions are not being saved. This is requiring the engineer to re-apply the auto-attack each time they swap kits. Which in combat is far too time consuming.

This one is quite annoying.
