I don’t know, I love the burst potential that we have now, combined with firefields and leaps, you can really make it powerful. And it is still AOE!
The tradeoff still is that you need to go melee to make it work but still. The new effect is really stronger when you build for it.

I love playing my burn guard these days, it’s fairly good against any meta spec that is not a diamond skin as people don’t run that much condi cleanse these days with all the CC thrown around

But it is true that when there are two eles or even one sometimes I swap for revenant because being helpless is no fun

I don’t understand why everyone is crying about the number of hero points needed to unlock the elite specialization.

I find it perfectly normal that you need to progress an acquire experience in the jungle before you become stronger.

In fact I find it quite fun because contrary to regular tyria, in the jungle you feel weak if you use a new magic unknown to you until you get some hero points that makes you stronger and stronger. All of that without having a new level cap like in other mmos!

I really think Anet nailed it. It is normal to not unlock all the expansion in one day, and I believe that once you get a decent amount of masteries unlocked, it will be quite fast to get the elite spec with your other characters so the system seems really well thought if you really think about it!

I apologize I didn’t understand that response. Did it address the OP’s points and I’m missing your point (sorry if that’s the case) or was that a somewhat evasive response?

I guess it means that if you want to proc it more often (get the most out of it as OP wants), you can apply boons with something else than a facet

So I played around 11 hours of revenant in PvP this weekend so here is some feedback.

First of all, I LOVE the class, been playing berzerker shiro/glint with sword/shield + hammer and boy it’s good! You pretty much counter any marauder or berzerker ammulet wearer if they are foolish enough to hit you during your herald heal.

The damage is really good (but not OP for a full zerker character), but I find it too easy to land, especially in sword with unrelenting assault. I think that dodging the first hit could cancel the damage portion. Another option is reducing it’s damage and giving a good buff to Precision Strike or putting more damage to the end of UA to help mitigating it. (this solution also has the advantage of making it better in teamplay if the last hit always hits the first target).

Hammer is also really good, but I would love seeing Coalescence of Ruin turned into a ground targeted ability like Warrior’s Whirlwind Attack.

Also, Glint could be toned down a bit by increasing energy costs (especially on fury and regen) and nerfing infused light duration down to 3 seconds. And please, make it so that the facet boons pulse independently to help us make most of shared empowerment cooldown!

All in all, I think I will be maining the class once HoT is out, thank’s for the fabulous work.

I only played physical damage Revenant in PvP and I really like the general feel of it excepted how slow it feels.
Just so you know, I main GS/Hammer War but play mostly GS/scepter+focus meditation guard these days. Today I played Shiro/Jarlis with dev/retrib/invoc and sword/sword+staff.

This spec is pretty cool for a heavy marauder character and there are some really cool and fun synergies in it. It feels pretty much like a mix of warrior and thief which is something I really like and didn’t find until I played meditation guardian.

Here I will expose what I find good and what I think should get some little changes to make the revenant (or at least the parts I played of it) nice to use in PvP in addition to just cool as it is now.


Sword:


  • Autoattack: Good pressure, nice animations, perfect as is.
  • Precision Strike: Lacks a little something, I find myself rarely using it. Other have suggested adding blinds and I think it would make the skill good to use.
  • Unrelenting Assault: This is I think the skill with the coolest feel in the game.
    That said, in terms of usability, while its single target damage is really good, it becomes bad in group situation where you get hit by every aoe and it’s damage becomes uninteresting.
    Other have suggested to add an evade, that would be cool, but maybe too much.
    I have the feeling that this skill should be damage against one target like now, but that if you hit more targets, you should get some defensive bonuses like evade, blinds, protection or stability, maybe have more bonuses the more different targets you hit. Of course, these bonuses shouldn’t extend past the skill.
    I also think that quickness/slow should affect the skill because I guess that it does nothing right now.
  • Duelist’s Preparation: this skill is really good and the only change it may need is being able to use the second part without requirement,
  • Grasping Shadow: this skill is nice but there are some terrain bugs making it hard to use consistently.

Staff:


  • Autoattack: good and feels good to use, gorgeous animations.
  • Punishing Sweep/Debilitating Slam: Nice attacks, good damage if used well.
  • Warding Rift: Awesome ability I love it.
  • Renewing Wave: Really useful to have condi cleanse because Revenant lacks a bit of this. The healing can also be nice.
  • Surge of the Mists: Really nice to use, rewards good positioning, really nice.

Shiro:


  • Enchanted Daggers: good idea, but really bad heal. The delay between the dagger strikes really hinders it and make it usable only for the damage boost it provides. I would suggest getting rid of the delay even if it means nerfing the damage of the daggers (the heal should stay as it is now)
  • Riposting Shadows: really nice skill, the energy cost could be a tiny bit lower but good anyway.
  • Phase Traversal: I feel like the damage and the cast time are not needed. The unblockable part could be cooler if it gave like 2 seconds of being unblockable. If it becomes instant cast/break stun, it’s energy cost should be upped (30 or so) nonetheless.
  • Impossible Odds: Really nice access to quickness and superspeed, I think it is well balanced.
  • Jade Winds: Really nice and powerful ability, feels elite, acts elite.

Jarlis:


  • Soothing Stone: Good heal, brings some desperately needed condi cleanse.
  • Inspiring Reinforcement: Stability should get applied as soon as the cast is over. It could pulse short duration weakness to be a bit more intuitive. Also, I’m not sure it needs damage.
  • Forced Engagement: Too costly, you always have something better than this skill to use.
  • Vengeful Hammers: I love this skill especially in combo with sword 3, however, the hammers shouldn’t disappear near walls or strange terrain. It should get rid of it’s cast time to be usable a bit more defensively and avoid funny things like being able to legend swap mid cast time and having the hammers in another legend. This would also make them usable as offensive defense against CC as those are really powerful against revenant.
  • Rite of the Great Dwarf: Really lackluster. When playing, Jarlis is an offensive Stance for me because this is the only skill bringing real sustain and it is just not usable as defense. The cast time is far too long for it’s effect in PvP. I have the feeling that this elite should give the caster damage immunity for the entire cast and the duration of the skill after that but still be interruptable. The group support ability should stay like it is now.

For traits, most of them are pretty well made, however, Invigorating flow in Invocation line should trigger on any breakstun or have an other ability added because right now it is too situational.

Overall, I really love the class and am really looking forward to play it again!

I think for that for PvP, a skullcracker build using GS/MaceShield strength, arms and discipline with valkyrie or soldier with pack runes and signet could be a nice zerker alternative but unfortunately quite weak against condies

I think that arms could do some pretty sweet things with a valkyrie ammulet. Using signet, you could have around 50% crit chance from trait and fury alone combined with unsuspecting foe, you could have a sweet zerker like combo with significant toughness

the fact that ever since they announced HOT they have been scamming people to buy the original game because “it was needed for HoT”

This is what is wrong for me. 2 days ago (June 15) it was written in the FAQ that HoT needed the base game. I advised some friends to buy GW2 after the announcement of HoT because the expansion was a perfect argument to buy the game when it went on sale and the game was needed anyway.

Now, I feel like I lied to those friends and I REALLY don’t like it.

I expect some explanations about this bad marketing/communication because right now, I feel like I cannot trust ArenaNet anymore.
What if in two days the expansion gives you access to only one map and you need another purchase for the others. After all, it is so easy to change what is written in the FAQ…

You’ll have to use your current account for login rewards and treat your HoT account as your main account. Of course, if another expansion comes, you’ll be starting from scratch again when your HoT account transitions to being a second login rewards account.

I main warrior and I think that having CI as a minor would be overpowered I’ll prefer having just the adrenaline part instead of thick skin as minor and CI only affecting conditions.

Warrior sprint must NOT become baseline, that would be crazy OP!

As for fast hands, having it baseline would also be OP.
If they made it baseline, I would like to see it interact with adrenaline in some way.
For example, you can swap anytime, but if you swap under CD, you get penalized. You could lose some adrenaline or not being able to gain adrenaline for some time and it could be proportional to the remaining CD.

All in all, I am against buffs to things already massively used (for any profession) and I would love to see adrenaline becoming more nuanced in it’s usage instead of just buffs.

Am I the only one seeing a nerf to leap skills here?

For instance warriors that are always under 25% bonus speed and dogged march will basically get every leap nerfed. I understand that in some niche cases it will be better but for the rest, the mobility of the classes using leaps is just getting nerfed.

I think we should wait to see the changes with their pros and cons before crying OP everywhere.

You can try Greatsword/Hammer, I’m having an awful lot of fun!
With some good reflexes, you can 1v1 nicely with the stun chain as every hammer attack is a little death sentence and bladetrail->rush->arcing slice is a really nice finishing combo.

You can obviously tweak it, for example changing battle and strength rune for pack and energy or taking intelligence on GS.

It is nowhere close to the meta but really fun anyways

I like your ideas!
If I can’t get a land spear, I think that I’ll be able to settle for a quick, bursty dagger. Also, meditation can be a good skill type for us, although mantras could also be pretty cool.
And frankly, for our spec, I would love being able to perform some quick deadly bursts with some quickness thrown in there.

For me, most of the changes changes are looking really promising for us warriors. However, I feel that some of the traits could be changed a bit.
For me mostly:

Strength
Being able to take distracting strikes, physical training and body blow is a really good move, however, I feel like you should be able to take restorative strength and physical training. Right now, restorative strength is just in a weird spot. It is useless with healing signet and of limited use in a shout heavy build with healing surge already condition resistant (especially with warhorn). But where it could really shine is in use with a traited mending as this combo could compete with cleansing ire. I think that having it compete with body blow would make more sense for “physical” builds.

Arms
Unsuspecting foe is a great trait, but having it as minor feels strange given how little it interacts with the rest of the line. I have the feeling that the crit chance could be reduced but it could interact with more soft/hard cc (slow, immob quickness?) that way its placement would feel less strange.

Tactics
Powerful synergy
This traits looks really fun although a bit lackluster. It should reduce the cooldown of leaps or make them longer or we could get a new field to really make it synergise better with the rest of the build and not only longbow.

Rifle needs love. To compete with longbow, I have the feeling that it needs to change a bit. (Bring more utility to the table)

-Add 100% chance vulnerability on crit (2 stack 5 seconds) to crack shot (maybe not on auto)

-Change brutal shot into:
Quick maintenance Cast: 1/2 s Recharge: 30 s
Rapidly clean your rifle exhausting residual fumes and powders blinding nearby foes with a smoke cloud and making your next rifle skill deal 20% more damage.
Number of Targets: 5
Pulses: 2
Duration: 2s
Interval: 1s
Radius: 120
Combo Field: Smoke

With these changes, rifle could become an interesting ranged choice against longbow. I know a smoke field could be OP on warriors but the access is limited with the cooldown and Warriors could become a really interesting class with one more field (adding depth and combos) and for me, smoke feels like the only field fitting thematically.

Totally agree for Warriors, even one of these buffs would be a for QoL. They would also help a lot for build diversity, especially for non-celestial warriors and being less reliant on this amulet is needed for warrior in tPvP now to make non longbow specs a little more viable (they are not unviable but the utility lost still hits hard without LB).

As for the other changes, I don’t play the other classes that much but I would say that the change for rangers should exist with a drawback, like only when out of combat or when pet is sheathed. This would make the ranger able to kite more, but with a little cost.

For mesmers, diversion should cleave more the more clones you have(single target with no/1 clone, then up to 5 targets with 3 clones and IP). For deceptive evasion, I guess that clones can replace phantasms if there are already 3 so that should be looked into not to unintendedly nerf builds.

TL;DR: Warriors, great!, Ranger, maybe tone it down to not make them ultimate kiters. Mesmer pretty cool if diversion is not AoE without clones and make sure that deceptive evasion doesn’t kill phantasms.

Personally, I don’t see any problem with the cost to replay past content. The cost will probably be less than 5200 gems (or 65$) a year. I see that a lot like an expansion that is free if you play regularly which is on paper a really good system. Let’s just hope that there will be an expansion worth of content added every year.

If what your saying is to increase the cap on condi’s/no cap at all….its not going to happen (i hope)

say you’re in a zerg, going into SM lord room, at the same time so is the other server defending it. You get to the lord and your zerg autos the hell out of it. Chances are it has 25 stacks of bleed now. Now if there was no cap….this would be way more than 25 stacks and 1 simple epidemic would kill anyone it affected. caps are needed condition damage is overpowered for armor and boons will not help you. there is just not enough condition removal.

I am not saying that there should be a decharge at 25 stacks, but at 625 and I think that at this point, it wouldn’t really matter for pvp because no player can take 625 stacks (I think)

So with my proposition, in your situation, people will maybe have the equivalent of 25 to 50 (at maximum) I think stacks of might. This is far from the 625 required for the condi burst.

I’ve read the whole thread and I think that there have been some pretty good ideas. However, arguing that conditions doesn’t need any change because they are fine in solo battles is useless. The problem is conditions in group. The goal here isn’t to know if conditions need a boost, I think they don’t. The point is that the cap mechanic handles the situation of a condi group really really badly.

I think that the idea of super condition is pretty good. Averaging (or something) the 24 or 8 conditions already applied and creating a new one on this base could be a good problem fix.
They already added torment so I don’t see why they can’t add conditions to overcome the caps limitation. These super conditions wouldn’t be much of a problem in their stacking because being able to stack up to 625 (=25×25) bleeding would make condi build viable in dungeons, in small pve group or even for some of the open world bosses.
I also think that once the cap is reached for a super condi, the condi damage could burst the damage of the last super stack because at this point it doesn’t really matter if the damage stays over time or not because if your target resist that much, you won’t see any difference.

Anyway, this what I thought after reading these pages. (And sorry for my english as it isn’t my native language)
