Pretty sure I read somewhere that this is already in the works.
I think I read in an update log somewhere that the gates ARE always open except for if an event is going on right outside (I.E. the High Wizard event).
If they aren’t, well then i’m sorry you wasted your time finding a group for a dungeon that you weren’t able to do, but thats the risk you run for Arah, CoE, and CoF.
The exact way that the rewards are given is largely irrelevant to the suggestion at hand. Triple them, double them, quadruple them…it doesn’t really matter. The point is that the OP wants some sort of system put in place that encourages experienced players to not exclude first-time runners.
I think this is reasonable. Lets decide whether or not we support the idea of a bonus like this in the first place before arguing over the specifics. (that way the devs can get to work on the system as a whole and tweak the numbers later, lol)
Along the same lines, I would like to be able to disable certain “5” traits. Particularly the Necromancer’s trait that summons that useless jagged horror whenever you kill something. I can’t tell you how annoying it is to survive a reckless pull of 8-10 undead, only to have that stupid minion (Minion AI is abysmally bad by the way) go pull another two or three things on its own, which keeps me in combat…
Well said Kitanas, I was just about to bring up the subject of waypoints being a gold sink. Gold sinks are in games for a reason, and while it could be argued that there are too many gold sinks in this one (tp fees, waypoint fees, repair fees), the fact remains that gold sinks are an important factor in stabilizing a game’s economy. Adding mounts into the game that were more than just cosmetic (i.e., they provide a speed boost) would majorly circumvent this gold sink and ANET would probably find somewhere else to put one, which would then just be complained about.
Leave mounts out of the game and be happy with your instant waypoint travel.
Yes, the chest at the end gives badges, but I think the point is that people should be able to actually play WvW and get badge drops at a reasonable rate, rather than having to farm jumping puzzle dailies, which really isn’t in the spirit of WvW to begin with.
You guys are completely misunderstanding me here. I’m not complaining, I’m not asking for my name back. I’m simply saying that that is what happened to me, and so if the feature didn’t exist, I would support its implementation. It seems that the feature DOES exist, and that’s great, I’m happy that it does.
I did this during beta as well. I’m not saying they didn’t fix it, I’m simply saying that that’s what happened to me. It was a while ago, and we all know that launch week was buggy as hell anyway. I’m sure its been fixed at this point though, so the OP doesn’t need to worry about this happening to him.
I am in favor of purely cosmetic mounts for collectible purposes. I love collecting cool things. Beyond that, I don’t want them.
Blakkrskyrr, we’re talking about a delay in which your name stays locked to you so that others can’t use it. If you were able to recreate your character within 10 minutes and get the same name, then that does not indicate the absence of a delay.
I had a character that I deleted in order to recreate as a different class. In the 10 minutes it took me to recreate the character my name was taken and I was forced to use an alternate spelling that I liked significantly less. This was during launch week though, so I support some kind of delay for unlocking the name if this hasn’t already been implemented.
Moas ftw. I support this suggestion because moas are awesome. Along that line, I really like Foostivoo and would like more Quaggans dressed up as different things.
+1 for the Dueling system, I think this would help alot of people who want there to be more of an open-world PvP system.
+1 for the Follow feature.
The trading system I find mostly unnecessary anymore because anything I want I can buy on the TP, or mail between my IRL friends. However, I see how some people might want this.
Mounts
My friend and I were talking the other day about how we would love to see mounts in the game, but only as a cosmetic item, i.e. they are another prestige thing you can get like minipets or weapon skins. They would provide no movement speed bonuses or anything of that sort, and thats not really a problem because waypoints are literally everywhere. If mounts were implemented in this way, I would be fine with them.
As far as dragons as mounts goes, absolutely not. For two reasons:
1. Dragons are the absolute most evil things to exist in the world of GW2. This isn’t like other MMOs where dragons are “everyday” mythical beings that you can stumble across and are violent, but mostly “unaligned” (to use D&D terms). Dragons are evil. Owning one is completely impractical within the GW lore.
2. Dragons are not populous. The Elder Dragons are the only dragons we have seen beyond their direct, and very powerful (from a lore standpoint, not actual game mechanics standpoint), minions. This means that there are something like 12 known dragons in the entire GW2 world (5 Elder’s, 3 Champions in the Arah story mode, Shatterer, Claw of Jormag, and Tequatl). People see dragons in the game and automatically jump to “I want to ride dragons”. But implementing a way to actually acquire a dragon mount would have to rip their established lore apart.
Additionally, I am completely against flying mounts in this game, and a dragon mount that couldn’t fly is just a horse with wings.
I don’t want to turn this into a lore thread, however it has been stated that the reason Elona is currently off-limits is because Palawa Joko rose again, conquered the lands outside of the Desolation, and currently reigns over Elona as a king. So yes, he is very much alive.
I would love for us to have to “unlock” the ruins of the old Chantry of Secrets through some event in Elona that would give us access to the UW and FoW if they were ever implemented again. (see? see? I still managed to stay on topic!)
I was “using the brain a bit” by thinking of the possible negative impacts that flying mounts could have on this game, considering what they have done to other games.
However, if flying mounts were completely unusable outside of this new “Sky Realm” then I wouldn’t have a problem with their implementation.
On the topic of the sky realm’s implementation though, I would much rather visit Cantha and Elona again before any completely new locations are created. There is alot of lore surrounding the fate of those two continents over the last 250 years and, as a long time GW1 fan, I very much would like to explore those two historical places before any sort of new realm with no current lore behind it.
I agree with 90% of your points, especially in regards to WvW and sPvP.
The two things I have to disagree with you on are your points about events not effecting the world, and spontaneous pvp.
Events:
There are tons of events throughout the world that do exactly what you are talking about. Recently I was in …Sparkfly Fen I think, and I stumbled across a small town overrun by Risen. Every NPC was dead, including the merchants and heart-npc. Clearly, an event had arisen to defend this camp, and the players had failed. It took myself and 3 other players about 10 minutes to clear out the 30-ish risen required to “drive them off” and be able to reuse the town.
Events like these spawn all over the world, that is just one that I can remember immediately. Just because they aren’t huge-scale seiges on capital cities (which are separately instanced zones by the way, so it would be difficult to have queensdale interact with divinity’s reach event-wise), doesn’t mean that there aren’t constantly events going on that are effecting outposts and towns in a negative way.
Spontaneous PvP:
No. It goes completely against the lore of the races of the world putting aside their differences and uniting against the threat of the elder dragons. Even if they were to implement factions, they would have to make them the evil npc factions (inquest, flame legion, etc), and implement storylines for those factions as well.
Guild Wars is, and always has been, about uniting under one banner to defeat a greater evil. How would you even begin to explain the existence of “The Pact” in faction-based game? Would you be forced to join it for the story’s sake regardless of your faction? Would late-game zones be PvP-free because you’ve all agreed to cooperate and take down the elder dragons?
Even if they made the world PvP not faction-based, like TERA Online did, it simply is not in the spirit of Guild Wars to have players randomly slaughtering each other in fields. The whole idea of cooperative DE’s would go completely out the window, and players would never do anything with one another for fear of their current ally suddenly turning around and ganking them.
Keep PVP in designated areas, or arenas, as this series always has.
Once again, I thought you made good points and agree with you on almost all of them. These are just two things that I found I didn’t agree with you on.
flying mounts are a terrible idea. They completely destroyed any sense of world exploration in WoW, and would do the same to this game.
I don’t even want to think about how badly it would effect the sense of wonder players have with the world and all the little things you can find in it, when all you have to do is fly wherever you are going. Not to mention, jumping puzzles would become obsolete, as well as all the little vista challenges.
Underworld and FoW were realms of the gods in GW1. They weren’t destroyed, however the only two methods of reaching these realms are inaccessible to players. One is located on the off-limits continent of Elona (unless Palawa Joko has destroyed it), and the other was a small shrine in Kryta, which I can only assume has been destroyed some time in the last 250 years.
Would be a cool idea, and easy to implement. Simply tie the titles into the completion of the personal story achievements already in the game. +1
Just wanted to say that I agree with just about everything here, especially the thing about legendary weapons. As it stands, legendary weapons are simply a massive grind for materials, and don’t really feel legendary at all from a lore standpoint.
However, my biggest gripe about Legendaries is that they can be bought/sold on the TP. Why on earth aren’t legendaries Account Bound? The fact that some filthy rich auction house player or some kid whose parents bought him a ton of gems can go and simply BUY a legendary off of the TP completely takes away from the “legendary” aspect of the weapon. Crafting a legendary should be an epic personal journey, rich with lore, that each player has to undertake themselves if they want to weild it. It shouldn’t be an endless gold grind so I can just buy the sword that someone else worked to forge. Its a Legendary weapon for goodness sake.
