Has Anet changed methods on bot "protection"?

I’ve never experienced this “DR” before, actually. The longest I spend in an area is maybe 1-2 hours @ cursed

Probably why. I’d spend probably 8+ hours in a zone if I want to farm.

Thanks guys. Sigh, me and friends loved gw2 but when we found out about the DR we jumped ship.

Hoping they changed if we gave them time but no luck =\

So yeah, popping in since I kind of want to start playing again however, do not particularly want to start playing if….

Shortly after launch Anet announced that they would take away/drops are subject to ‘diminishing returns’ if you grinded for too long, usually to counter bots. Is that still around?

Mmkay, so you know what your doing. My advice now is you read up, summarise what to do and tell the others. Eg. Boss in AC does a AOE pull. Everyone just needs to press V when he looks like …(insert animation summary).

Mark the target that you want to focus down. (I think it’s SHIFT-T, default keybind? Could be CTRL.) This helps a lot in trash pulls.

To some people they’re pretty simple once you’ve gone though them at least once, or just read up quickly. There’s plenty of guides around.

Frankly as group of internet friends (5 of us) just had trouble the first time we ran them. Once we know what’s going on, well you can clear it easier.

Unfortunately, you need people that are smart and they’re far and few.

Why are a lot of gamers unsociable?

People unreliable. If you screw up you’ve only got yourself to blame.
Also, don’t like people =)

Yes tell us the exact mechanics in public so the I can start scripting my bot to avoid it and ruin the econ more. Don’t worry these guys wont cry about bots I promise!

Yes, let’s implement a lazy way of countering bots when you should develop an anti-cheat protection embedded in the client like Warden, or even if that doesn’t detect botting (I believe it’s more geared to detect programs modifying client memory) develop something.

The point is, not telling your players about a mechanic that can potentially take loot away from you because their way of countering bots is flawed is pathetic. Grinding to get my legendary or even my exotics from dungeons has to be efficient, else what’s the point? I don’t want to get half my tokens because my guild is good at clearing.

“We’ve relaxed our anti-exploiting system for loot and events.”

So I was pretty hyped about that, I might actually start playing again with my friend, but then I remembered, there’s probably STILL no information on the system so…

How about actually telling us some details about the system? Security on a mechanic (for a lazy way of countering bots) via obscurity in a game is ridiculously stupid.

As far as I know, there’s no sticky and wiki page. I checked about a week ago.

Honestly I think that doing videos of the issues I run into is the best thing to articulate what i’m talking about. Only problem is, I’m not familiar with After Effects and/or Videos.

“I’m only level 62 and I’ve hit dozens of them….Maybe pay more attention?”
I’m not saying all the time I can’t find them. Just some places were like, barren.

“You complain that the dungeons mechanics don’t suite you and are of “fabricated” difficulty.”
Fabricated difficulty. Being one shot because you didn’t react within 100ms, plus here in Aus we constantly have over 200 ping doesn’t help. PLUS it’s incredibly hard to see the animation with lots of spell effects hitting it or animations are terrible in general. OR, if you miss dodging ONE thing or not even knowing the fight – your kittened. Instant down. Megaman series is a good example of how difficulty should be. Taught. It may be a different game but it’s still a good example. Diablo 3 is also a perfect example of such a thing.

Remember, this is just what I think, I don’t really want to get into a full blown argument about it, it’d sap way too much energy. Discussion is good, arguments are not.

Reserving a space later for Dungeon difficulty regarding pugs + bugs. Forgot to talk about them.

@kKagari. I watched it. Yes, basically waiting around and waiting for them to talk at the speed of a turtle and pressing f on people around the place.

@souldonkey
I know I sound disrespectful, but I’ve always believed telling it straight and blunt is the best way to address things. It’s how I’ve always said things. It may sound bad, but it hits.

Yes, there are places that npcs run up to me for help and it triggers an event, but my path to 80 had a scare number of them.

@kKagari
I don’t want to slow down. Efficiency and speed is my game. I don’t want to wait around and HOPE that I get the next DE or something. Oh kitten, I sat there for 10 minutes and nothing happened. Well kitten Controlling a way a player plays is a no-no. If a player wants to slow down, he/she can by himself.

Hi, this is just some feedback on why I just do not want to play anymore. I’ll be addressing numerous issues and just things I like.

Leveling:
You guys got this right. This probably has been one of my most favourite leveling experiences in a game. Even though I cannot grind (I’m one of those players that love grinding. I like my JRPGS, so grinding has been instilled in me) exp at a good rate outright, the offset of it being so immersive is good.

Dynamic Events:
However, dynamic events somehow don’t sit right with me. If I’ve finished my hearts in the area I don’t want to be waiting for an event to pop up or just run around aimlessly in the hope that I’ll run into a DE. They need to be triggered in a way or something. I’m just providing feedback, not ways to really fix it.

Also, putting dynamic events on a timer is silly. I don’t want to run a piece of software for when Jormag spawns all the time. Doesn’t feel right. You really could have revolutionalised the questing system but you half kittened it in the end. Disappointing.

DR/Dungeons:
Why why why would you do this. When I was leveling after taking a break for exams and assignments, I heard a constant stream of complaints about how kitten the difficulty of bosses/pulls are in Dungeons. Not everyone lives in ’Merica, Arenanet.

It’s basically dodge or die. Here in Australia, we have real trouble with such mechanics. We have to see past all the bajillion effects and animations going on with the boss (it gets really hard to see with lots of spell effects and whatnot) and watch him with absolute clarity, the very millisecond he starts to cast or something, we have to dodge within about 500ms otherwise we’re going to get hit.

Building on that point, make it easier to see who the boss is going for. It’s stupidly hard sometimes when you’ve got 3 people in melee standing on each other, and it suddenly keeps changing from one person to another, making it chance-link for me to ripose – bleed the boss or dodge.

Stop making things so reliant on dodging. You’re creating a fabricated difficulty level. Dodge or die is silly. Things that one shot you are stupid (Marksmen in CM). Things that stunlock you are stupid (First boss in CM, you get hit with that shotgun, it’s all over). It’s all fabricated and FALSE difficulty.

Regarding DR. Stop it also. Think of another way. This may just be me, but I have some memory problems. I don’t want to run multiple timers using software or other things just to tell me when I’m able to run a dungeon at peak efficiency. Stop limiting and controlling the way I play, why would you do this when cookie-cutter builds don’t really exist and I can play with the loadout I like.

If I didn’t hear complaints on my Mumble server about getting a lower amount of tokens in Dungeons, I may not have noticed for a few runs or something.

Conclusion: Man Anet, I really wanted you to be the next company that tops Blizzard, I really did. I don’t want to go back to WoW just to curb my MMO need. But I seem to have developed an intolerance for stupidity/dumb mechanics.

Nodes/Gathering:
You have to put in some kind of feature that allows me to find specific nodes in a world. Or allow simple mods or something. I need to mark the map with a good farming path. I just recently took up a new profession, so I ducked into the early maps. I feel like an idiot just running around looking for copper ore just by running around the map not knowing where to go.

Summarising,
Leveling. It’s fun, immersive. But change things to be able to get a constant stream of exp, not staggered, waiting around hopefully for a DE to trigger, because you cannot know nor remember if a DE is here or not or because you have no hearts left.

DE:
Change them from timers to triggers or something. Your all vets, you don’t need to be told how to change it from a random MMO player in Ausland who’s just starting in Uni.

Dungeons:
Stop using fabricated difficulty. Things that one shot you are not ‘hard’. Stop making things SO ping reliant. Not everyone has 100ms, nor abnormally fast reflexes.

DR:
I have no idea why you would put this in. This is the reason that’s tipping me over the edge of not playing. STOP CONTROLLING THE WAY I WANT TO PLAY. If you don’t want someone’s getting geared up in a day, think of another way. Dailies are stupid. Dailies are possibly the worst mechanic in an MMO. If I forget to do something, efficiency is lost. I can’t remember everything.

Gathering:
Needs a new feature. Running around the map like a headless chicken looking for a specific material is terrible.

Thanks for reading my 2 cents, I know it’s probably hopeless to bother with feedback as no one will care, but I feel like I really don’t want to leave, going back to Blizzard after they pulled a fast one on my kitten with Diablo 3, because of a few issues that is really breaking the game when they really could be fixed with some simple logical thinking.

Not 80 yet but I did take two weeks off. Otherwise would be 80 within the first week.
Do everything. Crafting and Dynamic Events are probably the best things you could do for exp. Do personal storyline asap when you hit the required level.

Sounds like your net connection. Don’t know where you live so I can’t say what steps to take because I don’t know your net type, eg ADSL, Fibre.

Do a power cycle/isolation test/different modem.
