As per usual. Maybe the 5 of us or so can throw rocks and it and wish reeeaaalllly hard. The entire server seems to have either disappeared off to more successful servers where their chances of victory are almost guaranteed, or have just plain given up entirely, and the only reason they show up is for the daily.

So I guess my question is: How is this event fair to servers like ours? We have people that know what to do, but we don’t have near enough of them to even dent this thing. Even at peak hours it’s a ghost town like that. Lowest I’ve seen him get is 75%. I see lots of people complaining about Overflow servers…. man I’d love to have one of those. Consider yourselves lucky that you’re not on the opposite end of the spectrum.

I think it was a bad idea in general to have a server stressing event like Tequatl where a whole bunch of people in one area are going to create a massive lagstorm, and something like these bauble achievements in super adventure box, where if you get disconnected right at the end, you’ve just lost two hours of your life and have to do that horrible place over again. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to get these achievements before this ends at this rate…

Yesterday it was practically unplayable from the lag, but I still somehow got through it and I got disconnected one bauble away from completing the world 2 zone 1 bauble achievement.

Today… the exact same situation one bauble away from zone 2. The worst timed disconnects of all time.

I’m going to have a heart attack I swear to god. lol. Anyone else having similar luck?

No it’s definitely not just you. The game has been really laggy tonight. I was trying to get all the baubles in 2-1, (which is absolutely nightmarish with this lag) and I literally just got disconnected before the very LAST one that I needed. T_T

I had so much fun with the first Super Adventure Box and went through and got every achievement, but this new stuff… I just cannot put up with it.

I’m fine with difficult jumps, and difficult combat, but world 2-1 is just infuriating now. First of all you adjusted all the crocodiles so that they’re just barely in range, or just out of range of the whip. Great. Thanks. I really have a lot of baubles to spare on slingshots and bombs after spending them all last time right? Did you guys consider that? I wanted to pick up where I left off, but I didn’t have the raw resources to continue in a lot of places. Those toads are absolutely un-killable without slingshots or bombs.

The worst part is though that when you TRY to hit them with slingshots or bombs you just miss. Because the targeting in Super Adventure Box is. the. worst. thing. ever. of. all. time. When you’re working already on limited resources and you keep missing your shots when you have the enemy targeted and you’re looking right at them, toes facing forward, pointing at them like an arrow, and your bombs and slingshots go flying off. I wasted like 20 baubles firing my slingshot at a toad in a furious rage. This isn’t retro hard, it’s stupid. When I swing my sword in Ninja Gaiden, it works.

And then I finally get past that second toad, take a second to watch the pattern of the two geysers and the fish going over, and then with confidence take my jump. I hope to the second geyser, land on it and Wuuhhh… I’m falling off and sailing down the river. 10 times I attempted that. Ten times I timed it correctly, ten times I failed. These rapids are AWFUL.

So I switched to tribulation mode. Jumped the spikes, walked a few steps… dead. Oh. I see. It’s ‘I Wanna Be The Guy’ GW-Style. Cool. Not for me. Was expecting a genuine hard mode. Though I will say, that it was pretty amusing, and the first time I jumped on that big rock at the beginning of world 1 and it flew up in the air, I think I almost had a heart attack. It’s a funny supplementary mode but I don’t have the patience for that.

I know you see a lot of difficulty complaints on these forums and I’ve read a lot of those threads myself in the past, but I just want you guys to know that this is the opinion of a guy that’s done all the jumping puzzles. I love them to death and thinks they’re the greatest part of the game, and I just cannot put up with this new Super Adventure Box design because your ranged attacks do not work properly. You should have done more testing to come to that conclusion yourself before putting it out in the wild. Just saying. So I cannot continue playing this unless it’s somehow fixed via a patch, because I will just end up crushing my Razer Naga into a fine powder in a delusional ragestorm. I do not want that.

What are the specific requirements for this? Is it stepping on each cloud and visiting each secret room? I’ve done every other achievement and I’m stuck at 26/27 and I’m not exactly sure what I’m missing. I’ve went through the zones again a couple of times making sure to get all the clouds and still nothing. Am I missing something here? It’s driving me nuts.

You can have two sets? I was not aware of this. Nevermind then. Problem solved I guess.

It’s still a little inconveniencing though, that maybe they couldn’t figure out another way to do it like hard coding in a seperate skillbar controlled by the numbers or something. Something to think about for future releases I think. Because it’s frustrating when you first show up and you find that your keybindings that are now like second nature to you, have essentially turned a fun musical adventure into GW2 QWOP. Hahaha.

Who uses 1-9 for abilities in an MMO? I mean honestly. So I’m sitting there going “Uhhh…. what’s this note… F? R? Oh god. Oh god. Oh god.” That’s the reality of this game for most people first doing it. I don’t want to have to reset all my keybindings to default to do this. It seems like a fun little game, but it’s not very friendly towards “most people” who have any sort of previous experiences with these kinds of games and binding their skills to more convenient keys and/or mouse buttons.

Alternatively, a way to save a set of keybindings, so I could switch back and forth between the default for things like this would be mighty handy. As it stands I just don’t want to put in the effort to switch everything around, and so I’m missing out on something that looks pretty cool.

I know you likely won’t fix it this year, but next year, and in future events like this, you might want to consider the fact that probably at least 70% of MMO players don’t use 1-9.

Maybe I just haven’t payed enough attention, but is this building new? It’s by the Claw Island Portage waypoint and has a deactivated Asura Gate, some symbols that I don’t know the significance of, and it just looks kind of odd.

My main complaint as many others have stated is that if it goes live at midnight PST then it should be the 23rd not the 22nd. If I would have known that ahead of time, I wouldn’t have to had wasted all this time in front of my computer all night, instead of doing something else. I only have limited time to play the game, and I squandered all of it tonight waiting for an event that’s not going to happen until tomorrow. I was waiting last night as well assuming it would be coming at midnight. That’s the thing people are taking issue with. You guys got the date wrong.

At the very least some non-Halloween related patch notes would do wonders to hold me over until tomorrow. I don’t think that would ruin the Halloween atmosphere. I know you guys are all like “chill it’ll come out soon.” but I have to go to bed soon, I gotta work tomorrow

Yeah I support this thread completely. I had a bunch of vanilla before the patch, and then when it came time to make some max level food, I had found all the vendors that used to sell them no longer did, and that I’d squandered the new most valuable resource in the game on discovery recipes, instead of stocking up on useful food. I have one Vanilla Bean left and I’m terrified to use it.

Yeah it’s amazing to me how ineffective reporting bugs actually is. I saw nothing but threads about people complaining about the diminishing returns system yesterday, and there’s dev posts aaaallll over those millions of threads, but with a simple issue like this, it’s gonna take upwards of a month to get solved. Oh well. Maybe by then, I’ll actually be able to afford the armor. :P

I have had this problem a few times with this dungeon. My only suggestion is to submit yet another bug report, because me and a few people I’ve grouped with have already. The higher the volume of requests, the greater chance the problem has of being looked at and solved.

Well I’m back from work now, so I’ll post a screenshot so you can clearly see the problem. This is the same with all 3 sets of the light armor. They also have the same armor value of 97 as the other medium shoulders, so they definitely appear to be itemized as medium armor, it’s not just an item description error. I’d love to get this fixed up in the next patch. It’s a rather cool looking set which I wouldn’t mind having in the future.

The shoulder piece of the light armor sets for SE are mistakenly labelled as medium armor. It was like this before the patch, and it still hasn’t been fixed. I haven’t actually purchased it, so I don’t know if it actually is medium armor, or if the item description is just wrong, but you guys should fix that.

I’m just assuming that it’s exclusive to this dungeon because it’s the only one I’ve had trouble with, but anyways:

The problem is: If a group member gets disconnected in SE, they are unable to join back into the same instance as the rest of the group. This first happened to a group member of mine the other day and I didn’t think much of it at the time, but it happened to me today and now I’m very confused.

Upon logging back in, I was presented with the option to “Join group in Sorrow’s Embrace” but when you click the button, nothing happens. If you try to re-enter the portal manually, you’re given the option to “Enter Story Mode” and it puts you in a new version of the instance, separate from the group.

Furthermore, if a group member decides to come outside of the instance with you while this is happening, they will also be stuck and be unable to get back in. Which means that they’re unable to recruit a replacement member, they’ve just lost another member, and now the run is essentially over for them. That’s a pretty bad situation.

Now I tried many various methods to try and debug this myself including logging out and back in, leaving the group and getting reinvited, shutting the client down completely for a minutes and restarting it, and a bunch of combinations of those things together. Each time I was presented with the same “Join Party” option immediately upon logging in, but the button didn’t do anything. I’ve also submitted an in-game bug report about the issue.

Anybody else have this issue with any other dungeons? Or is it limited to Sorrow’s Embrace?

About the Zhaitan Fight [end game spoiler]

Finished this today, gotta agree that it was very disappointing and the weakest part of an otherwise cool dungeon.

After you kill those Eyes of Zhaitan there is literally NO more resistance. You just sit on a cannon and spam the button until he’s dead. That’s not right. Something is wrong there. Zhaitan should rip players off the turrets at random, or summon a bunch of adds that have to be dealt with, or put down a bunch of AoE or something at least. He just sits there like a frightened Koala Bear clinging to that ruined pillar for his life. Of any of the story mode dungeons, this one is the one that should be hard.

I want to be dodging around like a maniac avoiding fire, dealing with mobs, firing the cannons, and screaming like an idiot into my microphone. I did none of that. I want to die and have to try again, I want to have to learn the fight. You guys made a big mistake on not including more of your higher level content in the public betas. It clearly needs testing. Not just this dungeon, but most of the Cursed Shore zone is just a mess of bugs.

Yeah we did slowly whittle him down but it took an eternity. I’m not saying it’s impossible, and I’m not saying the mechanic is completely unwelcome, but not in a story mode dungeon. It’s just a little absurd to spend that much time doing a story mode, especially when the explorable is much, much easier in comparison. It just needs a little tuning is all.

First of all let me say I’m a big fan of the difficult dungeons, and especially the explorable modes. They’ve been quite a challenge for me and my friends. Good job. But….

I’m sure most of you know the golem of which I speak. The fire spewing son of a gun. Not so difficult because of the fire, but for a Necromancer? Nearly impossible to do damage because he heals from conditions. I was auto attacking with a staff, and throwing down the one damaging well that doesn’t inflict any conditions. Our mesmer was in a similar predicament.

I payed attention to a lot of the hype you guys were putting out before the game came out about how you wouldn’t need specific setups to get through a dungeon, but having condition based classes SEVERELY hinders you in this encounter. I very much doubt a group composed of 5 Necromancers could get through that.

Well I think that an ability like this is perfectly suited for an explorable mode type dungeon, to have something this difficult in the Story mode… it could use a bit of a tuning down. I mean the fire is enough trouble for most unco-ordinated groups to deal with. It’s just a dramatic spike in the difficulty that doesn’t need to be there, especially considering he’s only one of two minions of the boss in that encounter.

I dunno maybe I’m crazy, or maybe there’s a way to deal with him with environmental weapons that I’m not seeing, but that guy is very rough for condition based classes to deal with.

Ahahahaha. I completely agree. It drove me absolutely crazy by like level 20 something and I haven’t used it since. I don’t even care about it’s usefulness, that is the worst sound in the world and I will not ever use a Staff again until it’s fixed. Glad I’m not the only one being driven crazy by that sound effect.

This is funny. Hearths do not give karma anymore yet completing a heart turn corresponding NPC into karma merchant? See the karma icon on a completed hearth.

Yeah it’s like they scrapped their whole original concept because players were gaining too much Karma instead of just fixing the levels awarded…

Well… as much as they won’t like to cooperate, I’m now going to attempt to get my friends to submit a bug report about gaining karma from renown heart events. Because like it or hate it, everyone’s gotta have an even playing field here.

Wow. Ok, well they may want to look into the bug of people still earning karma from renown heart events then because some of my friends definitely are with their tens of thousands of karma.

Also it’s very confusing to be a beta player and then have a drastic change like this without saying anything. Maybe you guys should have posted something about it? Kind of upset that I’ve been wasting the last two weeks with customer service for nothing…

Yes I’m quite certain. I bought a lot of that cheap WvW gear in the beta with karma I’d earned from renown hearts. Plus it was actually working for me in live on the first day, but on the second day it just sort of disappeared, and I could only get it via dynamic events.

The whole concept of karma is based around renown heart events because the idea is when you help out the npc, you gain karma points for your efforts. You can see Arenanet talking about the whole concept of it in some of their blog posts and videos leading up to release. If you aren’t gaining them like me, then you’re encountering the same issue.

I was gaining karma from them in the beta just fine, and also everyone else I’ve talked to is also gaining karma as normal from them. You must be having the same issue. See the problem with this little bug is that it happened so early that new players thought it was just how the game worked, so people don’t even know that it is an issue unless they played before it happened. As I said, on the second day of headstart this happened. Everything was normal day one. This is getting interesting. I wonder what caused it. o_O

Thank god the forums are up, now I can see how many other players are experiencing the same issue.

I have been unable to gain karma from renown heart events since about the second day of headstart. This issue is account wide and effects all of my characters. Upon the completion of a Heart event I get no “contribution medal” pop up, but I do get an achievement progress towards all the renown hearts in that zone. I also get xp, I’m not sure if it’s for the achievement progress, or for completing the event. There is no change in my karma totals though before and after one of these events. The only way I can actually attain karma at this point is through dynamic world events, which do pop up with the contribution medals, and award me karma as normally.

This pocket change amount of karma has been enough to sustain me to this point with levelling my cooking and patching up my character with occassional gear upgrades, but I would really love to be able to earn karma again properly.

So, to Arenanet who has deemed not to answer my ticket correctly already once, I am simply making you aware of the issue once again. To the players however I would like to ask if any of you are experiencing the same issue. It’s quite a frustrating one, and I haven’t seen any public acknowledgment of it’s existence as of yet.

I don’t know what would cause this, but I can attempt to reason my way through a solution. If you look at the total karma I’ve earned, total amount I’ve spent, and the number of renown heart events I’ve completed, you’ll hopefully be able to see the difference in numbers there and ideally you would be able to get me that missing karma back.

I’m not sure if posting my specific ticket in question in this thread would be against the rules, so I’ll hold off on that for now, but if you need any additional info, trust me I’m all effin’ ears. Been trying to get this solved for quite a while.
