I can see a lot of work has gone into this event, but firstly I was extremely surprised to see no intro or even an invite to the Halloween event in game. Even a mail explaining where to go and what is happening would have been expected as the barest minimum requirement. Then there is very little guidance as to what to do. If you do figure out to visit Lion’s Arch, one is left totally guessing as there is little or no instructions or tutorial, the only instructions I found was for the use of the candy powered matter meter, but even these are very confusing to say the least without some sort of tutorial. For instance with the food fight in Lion’s Arch there is no instructions or intro what-so-ever. One eventually goes up to the table and is asked to simply press F to food fight and that is it, end of instructions. I press F and I see myself throw something, but I haven’t got a clue what to do or what I’m meant to achieve. How do you food fight? Where are the instructions? What is the point of it, can you win anything? Do you target other players as they’re not red, if so which players? Is there any new skills as they’re not showing on the skill bar and if so how do you use them? How do you control throwing, is there different ways to throw? Do you avoid others and if so how, can you move away from the table or what? What are all the boons (buffs) I’m seeing on other players that I target all about? I’m sorry, but this is absolutely ridiculous and this is just one small part of the event that is not explained. Where else in the game world are the events going on if any, I found the event at Lions Arch, but I understand there is more going on? There is apparently a story too, how do you get involved with that? There is a complete and utter lack of answers or instructions and I’m close to simply giving up, my friend has already given up as it’s too frustrating not having a clue what to do or where to go. I’m amazed that something as vital as this has been totally forgotten, especially since it would have taken a fraction of the time it took to make the event to include a suitable tutorial and guidance. Okay one could hunt around on the Internet for the answers, but you most definitely shouldn’t have to do this and there is all sorts of information as you plough through the Internet, good and bad. At first there was very little information what-so-ever and much of the information is now from other users. I have never played any MMO where you don’t have an invite or intro to a new world event or festival, plus every part of the event is always explained properly with instructions and often a tutorial is added when needed too, this is normally common sense and expected as standard.
In hind sight now the event has already been launched in this condition I would urgently send out a mail to every member inviting them to the event with a full guide to each part as it progresses. This isn’t as good as a proper tutorial and guidance you’d expect in the game, but it will suffice as an emergency fix on this occasion. In future please ensure proper invites, tutorials Etc are included with any event as you’d expect. In fact the entire game could do with tutorials and I’ve already read of critics mentioning this as it’s very difficult for people who are new to MMOs, adding this to the game would be very beneficial to many people overall in the long term. I am however an MMO veteran and even I’m still struggling to understand the new Halloween Event, so newbies to MMOs probably wouldn’t have a chance.
Thanks for an excellent game overall. I provide constructive criticism in the hope of making this game even better.
I’m sure this must have been suggested in the past, but I really miss not having this option in GW2 over other MMOs that I’ve played. Players should however have the option to assign permissions to disallow other players from inspecting them if they choose as their personal privacy preference, perhaps they could either 1) allow all players to inspect them – the default, 2) Only friends and represented guild members can inspect, 3) Only friends can inspect 4) Disallow all inspections. Obviously anyone in the blocked list shouldn’t be able to inspect no matter what permissions are chosen.

Having no skill classes is part of what makes GW2 different and great, if a team wants to get together they could decide to choose roles if they want to, especially for dungeons in explorer mode, but no-one is tied down to a particular role throughout the entire game as a particular character.
Yes, I strongly agree and was going to write a suggestion about this myself. Adding a simple tickbox to only show items that are usable by your profession would be a great start (suggested above, but I was also going to suggest this myself) as well as perhaps adding more filter options as you’ve suggested.

Making it free to move to to major towns would be nice, but I don’t see it as critically important as if you really want to avoid paying you can take slightly longer to get there via Heart of the Mists as someone already mentioned.
As someone else mentioned, I agree that you shouldn’t suffer a repair bill in World Vs World PvP and I hope this changes soon. A simple solution would be to turn off equipment damage when you die in WvW completely. Maybe they could replace this with another penalty, perhaps introducing a revival debuff for a couple of minutes that makes you slightly weaker would be a better solution, they could even stack up the debuff if you die repeatedly before the previous death debuff has expired so forcing players to be extra careful for a while if they’ve died multiple times in quick succession. They could even add the option of purchasing tomes to remove this debuff instantly at the cost of gold and perhaps these tomes could occasionally drop from mobs or be sometimes included in chests too. These tomes would give players the choice whether to spend gold on tomes or use their one of a limited supply when they die to avoid the temporary debuff, but the important thing is players wouldn’t be forced to do so as the debuff, although giving a slight temporary disadvantage wouldn’t be enough to be game breaking. Unfortunately with WvW equipment repairs players eventually have no choice but to eventually spend gold and it can become very expensive in WvW PvP, sometimes so much that it can put players off WvW altogether as the benefits aren’t always worth the cost, this urgently needs to change. In fact the solution I have suggested could also be implemented in dungeons as again the repair cost is too much if you keep dying and then it’s often not worth playing at all.

They should be allowing the user to decide within the limits of reason so it doesn’t cause any serious problems, E.g. allow a FOV setting between 60 and 90. My graphics card is never used more than 50% at 30FPS (capped), but most of the time the usage is around 33% and I have an Nvidia GTX480 graphics card which was extremely powerful about 2 years ago. Even though it is still a respectable graphics card even today there is a lot better available like the Nvidia GTX680 or even better the GTX690 (dual GPU) card. In other words any respectable graphics card will cope with some performance loss and it won’t be a problem if you have a low end card as you’ll still have the option not to set it too high if you don’t want to, but I strongly suspect the performance loss won’t be that great anyway. Even if some work is required to achieve this they should be listening to what people want, the more customisation and options are available, the happier more players will be with the whole game-play experience.
I wrote a suggestion earlier, they simply need to put it as an option, it’s unfair that people with decent PCs should have to put up with a reduction in quality because low end PCs can’t cope with a feature, that’s why there are graphic quality options so people can get the best out of what they have. Also even with a low end PC one may decide they would rather have this feature on at the expense of another quality option being lower to compensate, it should be up to user preference.
I like the way it is now, although perhaps they could make certain dyes sold for gems account wide at the relevant higher price. Some rare dyes may cost 5 gold in the trading post, but this works both ways as you can make a lot of money selling unwanted dyes too. Also if you’re lucky enough to pick-up a rare dye from a drop, you’re left with a decision as to weather to sell or use it. If any dye collected could be used on all account characters it would reduce their trading post value as it would be much easier to get more dyes when playing with multiple characters, this would mean that more people would want to sell unwanted dyes and this would push the price down significantly. Collecting dyes is fun, selling them also adds to the game experience, but making each dye unlock on the whole account would certainly reduce this experience.
The update today (October 8th) has disabled camera smoothing for every player and not surprisingly it is already causing numerous complaints. This is unnecessary if you have a decent PC and without it the camera now feels jerky and unpleasant to play, it worked perfectly fine for myself without any issues before. It may suit some people, but it certainly won’t suit many. Surely it would make common sense to have camera smoothing as an option in the camera or graphics settings? Similarly one wouldn’t for instance force everyone to play with low quality textures just because people with low end machines get poor frame rates with high quality, of course not, there is an option to choose.
This is really is not good enough, the trading post is a VITAL PART OF THE GAME and any MMO, yet it’s been down most of the time since launch and now without any notice it’s brought down yet again for a long period without even an update for many hours on this official website and there is still no ETA or any useful information what-so-ever. On top of this we have experienced masses of bugs and problems including not even being able to login for most of the 1st day during the so called 3 day head start, instead of seeing updates regarding all the very serious issues after 3 days were instead updated all about the staff celebrating with their cake shortly after the main game release and even the forum was down for ages. Basically Arenanet are keeping their customers totally non informed and in the dark yet again, what good is information stating that we can’t give an ETA, this is NOT an update? Why has this vital part of the game gone down yet again in the first place and why for so long? What is really happening, what is the problem, what are the programmers saying? All customers should certainly now be receiving some sort of compensation in game at least for all this inconvenience.
Now it’s increasingly difficult to progress as you cannot get good enough equipment to do so. I am now close to formally demanding a refund for a game which is incomplete and not fully playable, it is certainly below merchantable quality under the Sales of Goods Act in the UK, in fact beta releases are often more functional and complete. Also support has been non-existent, my friend and I have given up trying to get any reply as you never ever seem to get one, I read of a few people getting useless computerised replies and nothing else no matter what they write.
There is nothing worse than being kept in the dark, writing this is about as good as talking to a brick wall, but I yet again as for proper information and updates.
Where are the announcements on the Forum, where was the notice of this maintenance, where are the apologies, where are the regular updates? In fact I’ve struggled to find anything about this very serious issue and I can’t find anything anywhere on the official Guild Wars 2 website apart from this thread that has been posted unofficially by a player. Something so serious should be on the main page with constant updates and should be treated with absolute urgency. Overall since launch the trading post has been down a lot longer than it’s been available, yet Arenanet haven’t even apologised. The trading post is a vital part of the game and trading is a vital part of any MMO, yet Arenanet don’t seem to have grasp this fact as it’s been down for almost 24 hours already and it’s planned maintenance since it was working before they chose to take it down without any notice to players, main will have items tied up in the trading post too. One cannot upgrade equipment easily and soon you won’t be-able to progress as equipment won’t be good enough to complete the personal story until the trading posts comes back online. It’s like talking to a brick wall, but I ask yet again for Arenanet to give us proper updates and notice of planned maintenance like this.
Gold Sellers (no relevant topic to put this in)

I couldn’t find a suitable topic to place this in:
Gold sellers are becoming a big problem, I am now often receiving mail hounding me sometimes a few times a minute. I cannot block them as every time a different name is used, they often appear to be bot / randomly generated names. When someone reports a user for gold staff should be-able to respond quickly. As well as this the map chat channels are getting spammed like hell making normal communication more and more difficult. The problem is getting worse and worse, eventually if nothing is done it will take over all chat channels and mail to the extent of receiving 100+ mail messages a day. One will be constantly be alerted of mail throughout play and will have to sift through pages of gold selling spam to find important messages.
I am reporting each and every one of them, but nothing appears to be done to stop it. More and more gold selling sites are appearing and it’s obviously going to be greatly unbalancing the game. To me it appears that you are losing the battle to these relentless people who are happy to destroy a brilliant gain so they can make real money illegally, especially since much of the gold on sale is almost certainly stolen from the 1000s of hacked accounts.
More staff need to urgently be allocated to deal with this increasing problem to actively ban all seller accounts involved for life. I strongly suspect that the sellers are creating temporary characters which are deleted straight after sending out lots of spam so a system needs to be implemented to easily track offending accounts from reports even if the user has been deleted. Some gold sellers are almost certainly from people’s accounts that are in control by hackers as you’ve found out. This is grossly unfair on this person as not only to they end up without any gold, but much worse they also end up with an account ban for something they haven’t done. More people need allocating also to help these unfortunately people who are the victim of a crime and even more needs to be done to increase security as it’s clearly still not enough.
Well I have an AMD 6 core processor running at 3.4Ghz with a respectable Nvidia GTX480 graphics card, yet I only get around 25-30FPS in many areas even when my GPU usage is often less than 50% + my CPU usage is less than 50% too with some cores almost idle. I get a smooth experience on high settings, but this machine should do it easily when it only just manages it. Some people however with lower spec machines seem to get better performance which doesn’t really make sense and it’s not my PC as I get good performance in other games. I have to say however that I’m impressed when there’s loads of players all using abilities in one area, it’s the first MMO that I’ve played where I haven’t noticed slow down.

There seems to be a major problem that has not long happened as cannot login, getting unable to access the server at this time on Ring of Fire, but I think numerous people are having problems as reporting on Twitter. There is no planned maintenance.
Render sample set on "native" causes transparency

Had exactly the same problem with my Nvidia GTX480 after I updating my graphics driver to 306.02 (Beta), with an older driver it worked perfectly fine. The workaround of turning off reflections worked and similarly it also worked in supersample render sampling instead of native with the reflections on, although this puts a lot of extra load on your GPU for minor improvements unless you have a large monitor where it is probably more noticeable The best workaround however is to simply turn off ambient occlusion in Nvidia control panel, you only have to turn it off for Guild Wars 2, now it works even in native with full reflections enabled. It is still a bug however as it worked perfectly with ambient occlusion with an earlier driver. I much prefer this workaround instead of installing an older driver as the newer drivers have considerable performance improvements in various other games and fixes. Thanks for the advice above, you’ve saved me a lot of time diagnosing the problem.
I’m not official tech support, but it would be helpful to know what graphics card you’re using, I assume it meets the minimum requirements for the game? Have you tried running on low settings? If it works try increasing them gradually until you get the problem back.
