Armoured Scales come from Krait/Drakes in WvW, best place to farm it if you can take the risk of being in a pvp zone.
otherwise your stuck transforming T5 scales into T6 with the forge.
also Heavy Moldy Bags drop all t6 materials, albeit at a low drop rate.
My toon is a guardian, and my server is low ranked. Guardians as a rule don’t dare go near WvW since the nerf, and if I farm in WvW im effectively doing it alone. Repair price for me is 1.3-2.6 silver. And I effectively cannot defend myself from anyone in wvw, let alone a pack of 5 or more.
Sounds like either a gear or learn to play issue. You have excellent defensive utility with the proper traits, utilities, and weapon set. Maybe you’re an offense oriented guardian and frequently get outclassed by rangers, wind elementalists, and thieves? Your class still excels in dungeons, and a warrior, guardian, elementalist, and any two other classes can easily clear any dungeon, especially if they all go down the power tree (25-30 points), leave the precision tree alone, max out a defensive stat tree, and put the other 15-10 into either the utility or secondary defensive tree. With the right gear set this is really powerful! Or, a support can go two down the defensive trees all the way, and 10 in the utility tree, so that would be 30 earth and water and 10 arcane for great water tanking.
A set i can’t get because i can’t farm the mats. my best gear is some lv 65 traveler rare. Better than lv 80 green, but it’s all magic find so it’s not that powerful. I set all my traits for meditation greatsword before they nerfed it. I could learn a whole new combat style I suppose.

If you haven’t even found any t5 totems or scales, you are seriously farming in the wrong places and not quickly enough. Get a couple friends so you can kill things faster, go murderate some skales or uh, sons of svanir or something, and then promote 50 of your t5 mats to ~10 of your t6 mats using mystic coins and skill points.
Mystic coins come from your daily and skill points come after you hit 80 and get more xp.
Or if that’s not efficient, sell them on the TP and buy the mats, but it sounds like you don’t want to do that, even if it’ll save you money.
I can find tier 5s, and some tier 6, namely bones, ancient wood, and poison glands, but everything else is almost non existent. Upgrading is fantastically costly. I played for weeks to get the money to buy the gems needed for the parts to do the upgrade with, took a full stack of mithral i had mined, and made ori. got 11. effective price near a gold per bar.
So far as i can tell orichalcum nodes and scavenging has been removed from the game almost entirely.
This makes me curious as to where exactly you are trying to farm for your mats. Orichalcum nodes were not removed or reduced but simply put on a daily timer. As others have recommended, I suggest getting some buddies and going to the high level areas of Frostforge Sound or Cursed Shore.
Tried that. For days. The areas ae 2/3s bots and they make the spawns so bad it’s pretty close to suicide to try. Went in with 50 silver for repairs and i left with 13 the last time. The good farming areas are so covered with bots they are unusable, which leaves only the areas so dangerous and unproductive even the bots leave them alone.
personally, i’ve never seen an armored scale drop as well. but it’s all good as i can just buy them on tp or buy large scales and upgrade them.
upgrading is an option, but so far as i can tell it’s the only one. I tried upgrading mithral to ori. took a whole stack of personally mined mithral, and all the ingredients some bought from the gem store at a price close to 3 gold, and got back 11 ori.
While it’s frustrating, his angst is misplaced. Botters actually make items cheaper to purchase on TP.
and much much worse to sell. If you sell on the TP you sell at a cut price to the manipulators, and if you buy, you buy from the manipulators and botters both of which are ruining the game and make it impossible to play. I should support the people who are destroying me?
Purchase green gear from TP at the least
Looked at that. Rare 65 still better than lv 80 green
Weeks of farming and you cant upgrade to level 80 gear? Sorry to say but you are doing it wrong.
I said I can’t do it without buying mats from the TP. i am so disgusted with how the botters and market manipulators are ruining the game that I refuse to do it.
I actually want to play the game instead of trying to make a living off it, or as an opportunity to perform trading scams that have long since been made illegal in the real world. This behavior (actually playing the game) is strongly discouraged by the game mechanics.
It used to be at least possible to do this though. It was hard and slow but it was doable. These days if you want to play the game you actually have to pay the people ruining it for the privilege.
There are whole website communities devoted exclusively to gaming the economy. I am getting the impression that economic manipulation is the actual purpose of the game, and I was a chump buying the game to begin with and for even thinking i could actually play it.
The market is loosely based off Eve’s, and while other communities hate resellers in these MMOs it’s apparently not only acceptable, but a viable way to make fast money if you know how. I’d rather stick to gathering and selling vendor trash as it’s more reliable, but some like to play the TP.
If the TP didn’t exist there would be no bots. Botting is a giant problem in EVE as well. I am told it takes up to 4 YEARS these days to actually be able to play the game. it’s played not by actually flying space ships as much as obsessively watching spreadsheets, and buying various trading systems. EVE is basicaly nothing but a virtual stock market. The game as a game doesn’’t even really exist anymore.
If I’d known they based the economy on EVE I would never have bought the game.
I thought they had increased the ori and ancient wood nodes as I’m finding them more than ever. Also WvW I have had most mats from, T6 Scales from the Krait, venom sacs from spiders but again go with friends for backup from enemy invaders and to kill stuff faster. MF gear also helps a bit.
may possibly depend on the server. I have found a good amount of ancient wood.
http://orrmaps.com/maps/1027 says your very wrong (thats for desolation only btw)
website looks blank to me

Bones and poison glands are still available, but that is basically it. I have yet to find a single armored scale, despite literally days of doing nothing but underwater farming. and i have found a total of one elaborate totem and one vicious claw.
I’m still wearing lv 65 armor after multiple weeks at lv 80 because I literally cannot MAKE A SINGLE PIECE without paying the botters for the privilege.
Not the first post on this with evidence. They still won’t believe you any more than the republicans believe in global warming, and for basically the same reasons. The people making the money off the current situation want to keep doing it, and are too myopic to realize that are ruining EVERYTHING in the long term. Even themselves.

Another option is to create a 1-man guild and buy/earn the influence to upgrade Guild Vault/Treasure Trove. Might take awhile and is not very accessible out of town, but a ton of space to store additional stuff.
I tried that, but it takes a loooooooong time to get the influence. And, well, you get lonely out there without a guild!
So have only one toon in that guild. You can buy influence with gold and you don;t sound short of that at all if you’ve got 7 bank slots. My sympathy remains non-existent.
As my rosters of characters increases, I’ve been purchasing more and more bank storage space. However, I’ve apparently hit the limit, as I’m no longer allowed to spend gems on increasing my bank’s storage capacity any further.
This seems like a rather odd decision for a business. It’s like I’m trying to hand you more money but you’re telling me you don’t want it. It’s doubly strange since this is the main area you’ve been obtaining cash from me. I’ve easily spent more on bank storage space since release than any monthly subscription MMO would have cost me. So, why not allow me to continue to do so?
behold the sound of the world’s smallest violin. I’ve been playing almost as long as you, and probably have more time in. Ive bought every bank slot i could afford as I could afford it. I have less than half as many.
You claim you are spending real money on gems, but you could be just as well merely trading gold for them.
Sounds more likely to me that you are one of those market arbiters that are screing up the game.
Can you please explain, why buying low, selling high would push the prices up?
Buying pushing prices up… selling pushes them back down.
Where it breaks down is the complete purchase of the current supply with limited supply coming into the system. You can argue this is supply and demand, but the demand in this case is initially manipulated by a small set of players buying up all the stock then letting it back out slowly, at higher prices. RL diamond market may be a good comparison — although I hate to compare anything in an MMO to real life.
I agree completely with a previous poster about gold farmers as the root cause of the problem.
I would love to see some statistics from ANet on the economy. One insightful metric would be the distribution of wealth in the player base.
what it does is stabilize them into a creep. The direction of creep will go in the direction in favor of the largest traders.
And the largest traders are the already rich. Have you looked at the US economy lately? nearly half the country lives below the poverty line. We are turning into a nation of peasants and lords. This is what uncontrolled capitalism in a mature economy ALWAYS does, as much as the Chicago school economists are loathe to admit.
The exact same thing is happening here, for exactly the same reasons. The difference is in real life people can’t quit the game. Here they can. And they will.
Krait farming is crazy good money.
I dont really make money in WvW. But I cant really say I lose a lot. A ram or an arrow cart here and there isn’t all that expensive.
As for drops, they get much better in a party. It seems the mob tagging requirements are just lower in a group.
The problem with krait farming is the bot ball. you go swimming down there and theres a tiny ball of 50 toons on the spawn node randomly spewing damage. It’s like a giant flower of ranger’s bear tushies. (i actually have to write “tushies”?!)
the rest of the ocean is of course empty.
All the gold is hiding in the Centaurs’ saddlebags at their camp in the North East corner of the map. They don’t like parting with it though. Eventually their boss shows up and you have to kill him off too.
Also… if you can’t afford siege just use badges of honor to purchase them. 6 badges will get you an arrow cart or a flame ram.
Some people will run around WvW naked to avoid armor repairs. Yes it works. Make sure you take off your breather mask too. Weapons do not take damage.
I have only gotten 1 badge ever after a month+ of play.
I’m blessed with fighting for a server in a relatively tight match. I routinely spend money on siege and occasionally pitch in for keep upgrades. I come out ahead every night.
bully for you. This has not been my experience. Do you also play a guardian?
There is no mad money on WvW, neither ever was. WvW isn’t ment to make big amount of cash. There are plenty of thing you can do to get money on WvW by still PK-ing. Kill random mobs – they give items which you can sell. Farming this way can bring you 12-20s every 10min. Beside that if repair really costs you so much that you feel it, the kill ratio must be like 1:5.
kill ratio is about 1 for 5-8 deaths. Toon cant do damage except up close, the binding spell does nothing but make pretty and useless chains on someone, so you can’t hold them, and all the powers are slow short ranged stuff. i get 1-2 hits in, then i get mobbed by his companions. Guardian has no speed boost options at all except the staff, which is otherwise totally useless as a weapon.
I play a ranged class and I never over-extend myself, so I rarely die. I also never buy blueprints :P
That’s how I come up positive in WvW :P
so specialized classes and builds. no help for me there, i got a guardian which has the worst ranged in the game. used to have the best melee to compensate but that is no longer true. First class nerfed is always the last in the end’
(edited by bombastinator.8965)
I have NEVER come out money ahead playing wvw. to date i have lost about a gold and a half total.
my guild wants to wvw but i simply can’t afford the costs.
you get about 3 silver for winning an event, and dying costs between 1.3 to 2.6 silver per.
people claim to make mad money playing the game, but it seems if you don’t have a specialized build with top lv 80 gear you’re nothing but fodder.
Sure you can buy siege weapons, but the blueprints are fantastically expensive and i don’t understand how spending 30 silver to get 3 makes any sense at all.
can someone please explain how this is done without being a troll about it and saying something patently dumb like “kill more stuff”
name one that does not include the TP. i can make a gold in an afternoon farming cursed shore.
There, you just named one yourself. Three afternoons (or one long weekend day), if you walk everywhere and don’t die (which isn’t that hard), will net you 3g. Do you really think this is something less than 5% of players are capable of doing?
But every person you see with a blue arrow over their head? that costs 100 gold. It allows you to have 40 players in your party instead of 5. Am I ever going to see one? No. Not anymore.
Why not any more? If you’re unable to increase your wealth, even very slowly, then you’re doing something very very wrong.
Oh sure. but very very slowly still leaves you out of the market. Inflation happens in these games. Money makes money better than anything else and the more there is the more it makes. The bigger the piles the greater the cost to have a profitable concern, and the less profitable th smaller concerns become. this is why there are so many people sleeping in gutters in third world countries. The poorest nations in the world all have plenty of rich people. The difference between a first world and a third world country is mostly to what degree they allow the rich to victimize the poor.
I recall a story from friend of mine doing relief work during an African famine, where one of these folks was exercising his string of 50 polo ponies near a red cross refugee encampment.
At the time there were ads all over american airwaves begging for food aid. I wonder how much american grain wound up in those horses.

So by your logic if I played every day, nver died or bought gear or bank slots or anything, by now I would have about 300 gold assuming i started at level 80 and didn’t have to work my way up.
There are players that are much much richer than that. And they didn’t live for the last month glued to their chair ignoring their life and pooping in a bag next to their computer either.
3 gold an hour is more what they are making, and I’ve had people claim to me they do it.
TBH it sounds like you meant to sell it at 16s but actually ended up doing a “Sell to highest buyer”. I’ve done it on occassion and lost a lot more than 15s…
possible
Yeah, if you list an item for 16s, there is absolutely nothing any other player can do (short of actually hacking the trading post), that would result in you getting only 3s for it.
So one of the following is true:
1) There’s a bug that’s only affecting you.
2) You screwed up and did not actually list it for the price you thought you did.
3) You screwed up and did not correctly interpret the source of the 3s in your pickup tab, and the item hasn’t actually sold yet. While all of the following are definitely false:
1) This happened because of pump-and-dump.
2) This happened because it’s like the 1890s up in here.
3) This happened because the rich get richer on the backs of the poor.
that’s a false syllogism. You might be able to say that none of those are the reason this happened, but it doesn’t make them false. I’m a guildmaster and as such I look at a lot of guild chatter, player levels and what they are looking for. i also talk to other guildmasters.
the differences in wealth levels int this game is incredibly vast. Bombay level vast.
Here’s an example: Occasionally you will see a guy with a blue arrow over his/her head. That’s a commander’s rating which allows you to make a party of 40 instead of 5. They cost 100 gold. Parts for legendary weapons are selling north of 200 gold, and the guildmaster i talked to wasn;t worried. he had the cash, all he needed was enough karma to make his backup weapon set. the guy told me not to use magic find gear and instead use ominom bars and magic find boosters, which he keeps up constantly when he is playing. He does this by buying gems with gold by the way, he’s not just dropping loads of money into the gem store.
How many people reading this have those kind of resources in comparison to the numbers that don’t?
Maybe you accidentally accepted an order. Or maybe the item didn’t even sell yet but something else did?
16+ silver for lvl 50 rare item does not sound like an instant sale.
it was lowest price at the time. Was a berserkers greatsword. high demand item.
could be a bug but its happened more than once 13 silver loss. or more accurately I sold it for 16 and i got barely above merchant price
I also do not understand what in the Sam Hail you are talking about. Pretty sure the answer to the thread title is “No,” though.
look up the pump and dump and market manipulation threads. What we’ve got is an 1890s style stock market. and it’s going in the same direction.
The other day I was in a dungeon with someone who ran out of money to repair. I suppose by your ideals we should have no means of helping him out and should just abandon the unfinished dungeon and get no tokens, because clearly there are no legitimate reasons to be able to send others money.
Thats happened to me several times. Generally i wind up fighting naked. Still a full elite set costs only 11 silver to repair. Cutting the cap to 20 silver would not affect that.
name one that does not include the TP. i can make a gold in an afternoon farming cursed shore. most of the time though i have less than 20 silver on me. Crafting needs to be pumped, items need to be repaired, gem prices were 15 silver for 100 at the biginning of the game and theyre pushing up to 80 occasionally now. I can no longer sell an exotic item for more than the price of mats, so there’s no money there either.
I can maintain and get by, even improve my equipment very slowly. But every person you see with a blue arrow over their head? that costs 100 gold. It allows you to have 40 players in your party instead of 5. Am I ever going to see one? No. Not anymore.
nope. literally priced at 16 silver got back 3. i didn;t buy any of the mats i farmed them
I just attempted to sell a lv 50 rare to handed sword. I put a price on it north of 16 silver, and got 3.02 back.
The market manipulation is that bad.
It appears I am literally locked out of the economy, and as such the high levels of the game. Getting the high level items by sheer farming is effectively impossible.
The only people happy with the TP are those that abused it. As far as I am concerned the TP is too broken to be used.
What about if I want to mail my buddy a few gold so he can buy himself some armor or dyes or w/e? There are reasons to mail gold.
“a few gold?” You betray yourself. I would be amazed if more than 5% of the plares have had more than 3 gold at one time total.
The difference between rich player and poor players in this game is staggering. The guys who got in immediately and cheated and manipulated the market are on top, and they will stay there forever.
i just built a level 50 rare greatsword, put it on the market for 16+ silver and got 3.02 back. The pump and dump is that bad.
personally i would limit the mail to 20 silver. you don’t need more than that for a low level. Taxing high value mailings would also help. you want to twink a toon be prepared to pay.
no. There are no economies of scale. There are no reduced transportation or packaging costs. Everything in the TP is effectively a stock. The TP is an uncontrolled stock market and subject to the same manipulation schemes.
if gems were affected by economy of scale you would have people parting them out.
The thing is, as long as there is any kind of inactive form of trading, whether it’s a player shop or an auction house, there are going to be people who put most of their time towards that.
And that’s pretty normal: You should never be forced to do a specific thing, such as farming or spending real cash, to acquire the gear you desire. That’s just bad design.
As for the point about everyone not profiting: Of course it’s not going to work that way. If everyone profits, everyone is wealthy, which also means no one is wealthy. Which will just end up with massive inflation. And let’s be honest, the last thing we need is inflating the costs when people are already discouraged from making it because the costs are mostly much higher than the coins you could make off it. Which, again, is another sign of a healthy economy.
Any market that is based mostly around an auction house depends about 60% on how much you know about item prices and 40% on your timing. Of course, with experience, the timing will start flowing to the knowledge part and then you’re pretty much set for a guaranteed profit. And it’s exactly because of the massive value put on knowledge, plus the high popularity of the game, that you won’t see people telling exactly what they do.
I agree with the premise, but thats not how the TP works. Uncontrolled markets are by definition manipulatable, and there is a lot of manipulation going on. To make it worse, the high end items in this game are so pricey that you bsically can;t get then without being one of the mapulators, and if you’re not already fantastically rich you will never become one. it’s too late. The market has matured.
Some moron has been listening go chicago school economic theory. Chicago school isn’t an economic system its a religion. With all the dogmatic ideology that goes along with it. Chicago shool economics to work, but only for a very short time BEFORE a market matures and stratifies. In modern real life innovation and changing circumstance mitigate this but here there are none. The world is the world and does not change. new inventions do not change circumstances, flood and famine do not strike, it is static. And so goes the economy.
Guildwars inst america, it’s Hati, and unless you’re one of the people living on the hill you will never get there.
the way people are making money on the TP right now is pump and dump. In real life it will get you put in prison.
50 gold is probably enough to get into it but there are those with far far more than you doing it so you will probably still get screwed.
the guild wars economy has stratified. There are the fantastically rich, and everyone else. The rich get richer by controlling the market. No, you will never have a legendary weapon, or a war commander for your clan. You didn’t get in early enough and do sufficiently unethical things.
The TP is an uncontrolled stock market. The methods for manipulating such things have been known for close to a hundred years. It is not a new science and there is evidence that a lot of them are being done. If you’re not already fantastically wealthy and familiar with illegal stock practice the TP is only going to screw you further
thee is a report button but it has no annotation system, or way to attach screen shots or video. video is most needed.
As for futility, it;s either going to be gotten under control or the game is going to go down the toilet and die.
I’ve never noticed a bot xD…I really never pay much attention to what others are doing so I have no idea how to spot one.
it’s a bit like diagnosing illness. Not all bots will all do the same things. What you are looking for is a preponderance of symptoms.
things to watch for:
-naked toon or one using crappiest gear available at high level
-toon repeats the same cycle ad infintum and always heads for the exact same points on a route, especially points that are NOT obvious points like easiest place to cross a bottleneck, or a spawn point.
-toon has a random name like ghxxfp
-toon attacks at nothing, teleports and does it again in a pattern.
-several toons following each other on the same route doing exactly the same attack at the same point.
- toon repetitively runs into a wall while casting spells at nothing (this is a big one) usually only happens when toon detects and attacks a mob that has been pushed out of it’s normal spawn point and is close to a ledge. toon will leap down, kill then get stuck trying to run back up.
-rangers with bears. Bears self heal so are the preferred botting pet, and rangers are the easiest class to bot with. you often see 3-5 rangers running in a tight group all wearing more or less the same thing and running with a ton of bears
toon repetitively fires at the same spawn point even when there’s nothing spawning.
If I see 3 or 4 or these I report as a possible bot.
(edited by bombastinator.8965)
last time i complained about the bot infestation I got warned and had my post deleted because there was another thread about bots on the next page. I have read 3 pages in and there are no bot based things I can see.
Heres the deal:
The bots are rampant. They are wearing clothes now, but other behaviors seem to be the same. was in the lvl 79-80 area east of fireheart rise, and the bots outnumbered players 2 to one. we were all stuck in one little area camping supply bags because the rest of the map was being systematically mowed over in a repeating pattern. There was nowhere to play.
Thi is gettig REALLY bad. I suspect this game will not last much longer. If I was a new player and heard about this problem at the level it is now I woul not be buying the game.
The gold sellers make money one way: They mail large quantities of gold to players who have bought it from them off site.
This behavior is trackable.
please do something or shortly i think no one is going to have a game anymore.
(edited by bombastinator.8965)
the problem with killing bots is they’re probably a lot tougher than you. Also there’s a good chance they;re Chinese. Ive been in games where folks started killing gold bots and the Chinese took offense as a country. They wiped every other player who wasnt shinese out fo the game. Totally. The game needless to say died Shadowrun maybe or something like that. It was an early all pvp game
Botting is going to destroy this game though in frostforge sound the bots outnumber players 2 to 1.
I hope the devs make their cash off this game quick to keep their company solvent, because as things stand now the game is going to be gone in 6 months imho.
vistas are a huge problem for anyone that hates jump puzzles as well. I don;t mind that they;re there, I hate being penalized for not doing them though.
gate costs go up much faster than income and become untenable.

Posted by: bombastinator.8965
my current toon costs over a silver to gate anywhere, 10-20 times what it cost at low level, yet his earning potential has barely doubled. As a resultm while getting to usable areas takes longer and longer, prices for gates go completely out of reach.
I have given up partying with my guild because it takes too long and is too expensive to go to the areas they are in.
Does this get better, and i’m simply in some sort of bucket? or does this game a forced single player unless you pay (more) money to actually be able to use it? It’s clear WvW is more or less that way. you can easily piddle away 2 gold in an afternoon, just on armor repair and blueprints. That has also become too expensive to do. I’m getting quite frustrated here. Half my game time is spent traveling through previously explored low level areas.
because for every character you have to do it all over again. Every toon has different map completion.
I really don’t think there’s an issue here. The monthly achivement is supposed to be a cross-section of the whole game… dynamic events, kills, player kills, etc. Now, I primarily PvE – but spare a thought for the people who mostly WvW and the stuff they have to do to get the same achievement.
you know what the monthly requirmnt is? 50 kills. tht means an average player will die 50 times getting those kills. A level 50 player gets charged 104 copper per death, with a 50% fine for not repairing armor immediately.
thats assuming you don;t buy seige weapons, which are very expensive. (and the only way for low levels to not simply be pummeled to death repeatedly)
that monthly requirement is going to cost most players several gold t a minimum to accomplish.
i could deal with it if it was PVP OR WvW, in mists at least you get equal equipment. Not so in WvW. WvW costs lots of money. you need to build seige weapons and die a lot. one afternoon there cost me 80 silver.
i cannot AFFORD to play WvW. it;s too expensive.
why do u even bother with achievements? i hate them, so i ignore them.
they’re for kitteners or people with ocd :Pps: since when is kitten a swear word?
I don;t like achievements either, particularly the dang vistas, but they have implemented them as a requirement in high level play. You want to make a legendary weapon? gift of exploration (every point on the map) is a required ingredient.
they kittened me too btw. It’s kind of clever really, it forces you not to swear int he first place. Kind of heavy handed IMHO, and implies they are less interested in dealing with players as people and more as just a skinner box full of money.
(edited by bombastinator.8965)
yeah but there are tons of gankers out there. open world pvp would have been easier not harder to code. The entire game desgn seems to rest on how they felt they should deal with pvp. You want open world pvp you want a different game.
for every player that loves pvp there are 5 that hate it. Open world pvp is a known game killer. This has been proven multiple times in other games. You may like it, but the devs would be pure idiots to implement it.
My prediction: never ever gonna happen.
so the solution is ump your toon every couple days becase he’s gotten too high level?!
That’s beyond asinine. Somebody needs a good slapping.
Well how much jute do you really need? Are you trying to make money selling it in the TP?
nope. I got one toon with tailor/artificer and another with armor crafter. I’m just trying to get past lvl 75 with them so I don’t have to deal with jute anymore. The low level jute monkey toon is working though. He does nothing but sit in caves killing bandits trying to avoid gaining xp. I just hope I don;t have to do this for all the mats.
