Yeah, new Khylo sucks. I’m mostly roamer by playstyle and new Khylo is very roamable to me. Khylo was just small and map where many fights/kills happened every match and now its just smaller and more fights/kills happen. It could serve as a new deathmatch map if deathmatch is ever implemented again.

Vanilla class help

Not having HoT is a disadvantage, but not that big.
Vanilla necro seems fun to play, I just played a few matches and it looks good.
Out of other professions I can recommend Power Survial Ranger, GS/Hammer Warrior and Condi Shater Mesmer. Ranger is pretty great, with high DPS and can take a few hits, Warrior is really good overall, and Mesmer is so fun to play because of all the teleports and invisibility.

Where's the logic in "League Professional"?

I see no problem in the achievement. It’s very logical. When Ascencion was introduced it was meant as a somewhat prestige PVP back item that you should have some trouble getting. Now it’s just time consuming more than anything. To me it seems you only want to have the Ascension without too much trouble and only by playing one profession and that’s not how Ascension was made to be acquired. It was meant as a PVP back item and to get you should (or even must) be able to play more than one profession in PVP (in this case at least 3). And that’s only a good thing.
I kinda struggled with it too at first, because I needed to play another profession (and then another one) and I only played ranger until then. But then I had to play another profession to get the back piece which I wanted to have. So I started to play warrior and then mesmer as a third profession. And I really liked them also and I am glad that I played them, because mesmer turned out to be so much fun to play I played it exclusively for some time. There’s nothing wrong with the achievement as it encourages you to try other professions and maybe find a new favorite. In the end, achievement is category is called “Year of Ascension”, not “Log in and get Ascension”. It almost took me a year to get it (I didn’t play for a season and a half last year, so yeah there’s that).
Also there are off seasons in which you can play different professions than what you would usually play in ranked, or even play them in unranked during season. If you want Ascension you have to invest some time in it, it won’t just be give to you.

The tower things can be annoying. I liked Skyhammer more before when you could fall of the map. And the new Khylo is just meh, it’s more like Eternal Coliseum than Khylo, they made small map even smaller.

Yeah, this game has wierdest dc penalties. Yesterday I played a ranked match and game froze, let’s say it’s because of my internet connection. After like half a minute I shut down the game and logged back in. We ended up winning, I had 13 kills, 2 deaths and top stats with 2 revives. But, guess what – I got minus rank points for desertion and dishonor penalty. Just have to learn to live with dishonor in situations like that.

Changes to Ascended Vending

Great new currency. Like we needed it.
PvP ascended are cheap as kitten, but if they want to change them they should just slap a gold price on each armor part and be done with it – let’s say about 10 gold average. That could work. This way they will lose a lot of players who just played PvP for ascended armors and that may be a good thing because there are less players playing PvP just for armors, but that also means there are less players playing PvP in general. And PvP is probably the only game mode which needs increased population, sure most new player will suck when they start, but with enough games played majority could improve.
On the other hand, ascended armor is only really needed in fractals and I guess raids (maybe WvW).

Should zerk gear be used by casual players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chibi.2537

chibi.2537

Why not? Pretty much all of PvE can be played with zerker gear. By all of PvE I mean non-HoT maps (don’t have HoT so I can’t say for those). And as my main is zerker ranger I really learned how to move in a fight and that means positionig and a whole lot of dodging. The key is to attack from afar and take as much HP down before they come close, and prevent them from coming close for as long as possible. So, yeah zerker gear thought me to be fast in a fight and avoid damage as much as I can. That means in PvP when I’m not careful or I’m against someone stronger I can be downed easily. But I have learned to play in downed state also, mostly skill 2 and wolf’s f2 skill (it’s about timig but if done right it really pays out). I say play zerker if you want but at the end of the day it’s all about personal preference.

I blindly voted yes because it’s at least some kind of change. But when I saw that no has more votes I was relieved.
Profession locking is not the real problem. Real problem is profession stacking. Matchmaking should be reworked to put together teams with 5 different professions with maybe a limit to 2 per armor weight class. Or 2 same proffesions but still a limit to 2 per armor weight class. Those restrictions could work with profession locking.

Should Top Stats count toward rating?

in PvP

chibi.2537

I totally agree on top stats giving more pips.

But sometimes it’s hard not beaing rewarded for what a person did in a match. Example: Yesterday I had a match (Eternal Coliseum) in which two of my teammates dc-ed after maybe a minute of the match – both thiefs, one of them even came back for like 10 seconds to dc again. Before thy dc-ed we were in the lead (yeah, I know not that much of a lead after one minute but still lead). And the rest of the match was us 3 vs 5. I played ranger and I got top stats for kills (4 of them, yay) but necro on my team got 3, maybe 4, top stas (didnt’ really check because I just wanted to get out of the match). And if it wasn’t for him we would lost 500 to 30, but this way we lost 500 to about 250, and the necro should be rewarded for keeping us from losing by a big gap. The fact that opposing team had 2 guardians speaks for itself (they were actually good). So yeah, top stas should award more pips, and should prorbably be reworked becuse of players like that necro who did everything they could to try to turn the impossible situation around.

And on the other hand people like those two thiefs should be punished, but I guess dishonor is all we have now for that behaviour. I played against one of them in a match after and he dc-ed again halfway trough match. Maybe they have bad internet connection and that’s something they can’t directly control but if that’s not the case they manipulated the match and deserve every minute of dishonor they got.

Yes, as I don’t have HoT I lately play most with condi mesmer. And I can say it is hella fun. 7/10 of my kills are from condis, and then there’s high mobility and invisibility. Also distorsion and a few blocks/evades. It’s really a fun class to play as.

It hasn't gotten any better

So, it’s match-class-balance that you want? Fair enough, that could be improved.

But do you at least find the skill of your fellow and opponent players to be better than before?

I’d say 60% of the time my team hasn’t got a clue or the skill to win.
That isn’t a claim by me that im better than everyone else, but when 4 die to 2 its a given.

I’d say match-class-balance could be improved to let’s say 2 of one class per team max. Today I played a match when my team was 5 mesmers and we won without even thinking of losing (I mostly roamed the map from close to mid helping defend and sometimes cap far, and in the end had 10 kills and 0 deaths). Yes, it was kinda fun to see all other clones/ilussions and mesmer teleporting/being invisble but it was in no way fair. Same as when there are 3 or even 4 guardians on one team, or even 3 thiefs (they just sneaky cap everything). These kinda games would be better suited for some private/guild servers but not in ranked.

As skill level goes, I’m not the best ever nor is it my goal to be. But yeah, I also had some unfair matches, and I’d say maybe 1/4 max. But on the other hand there was maybe the same amount of matches when my team was clearly better. So that kinda evens out. What I hate most is when people spam in chat and rage instead of playing. If they just played and not raged we could have won 3/5 matches. Worst is when they rage about fighting off point and then spend the net minute or two fighting off point when at least two points are empty or there’s one player on point. I could then rage at them, but instead I go and cap the point.

I’d be okay with this.

Me too, seeing as I don’t have HoT. But maybe make a new queue for non-elite specs would be fine too. It really noticealbe how superior they are. But until that I’m fine with this too, it’s not like I’m playing for money so I don’t mind losing, it’s just a game and I play it for fun.

What ruins pvp?

in PvP

chibi.2537

3. Troll builds.

Any for mesmer? I don’t have HoT and condi shatter so far works for me cause it can do massive condi damage and I like it better with scepter (skill 3) than sword for more condis. But I think mesmer has great potential for trolling cause its really fun to be invisible or teleport around and confuse people who were not prepared.

And what ruins pvp for me is the fact that HoT elite specs are very superior to non-elite specs. I don’t pay much attention to people raging/afking/ insulting me or someone else – just report the and block.

I main a Mesmer and I’ve been utterly amazed at how many people can’t tell the difference between the player and clone in downstate. In combat I understand how it can be confusing, but it is so obvious in down state. The only reason a player wouldn’t be able to tell difference is they don’t play pvp enough or don’t care enough to learn.

Oh my god, so much yes. I’m currently playing mesmer, a little change from ranger. And i laugh when I’m downed. Yesterday I was downed so long I created 3 clones and one backstabber (or whatever it’s called) and eventualy ressed myself, it was on Niflhel mid. I was laughing so hard.

Best Class Build None HoT Upgrade?

This. It’s just great – great survivabilty and you can tank anything. And Rampage is one of the best Elites.

Honestly, it’s really visible that HoT elite specs are better than vanilla but there are a few vanilla builds that are worthy. I didn’t buy HoT but thaknfully there are a few meta builds that are viable – Warrior GS/Hammer; Ranger Power Survival and Mesmer Condi shatter (I play those 3). But you can take the meta build as an example and change a few thingies here and there and that can maybe work better for you.

Why don't new fractal players say anything?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: chibi.2537

chibi.2537

Honestly, it’s pretty simple: people don’t admit to being new, because a small part of the community ruined it for you. Sadly, that’s not even the GW2 community, it’s the “plays MMOs” community.

It only takes one or two instances of being abused for being new, and asking, to learn that you should never, under any circumstances, admit to not knowing things. Doesn’t even matter if it was over in WoW, or LoL, or something radically different, that lesson sticks.

Which is why I adopted the approach of: if the mechanic matters, just explain it in one or two sentences. No asking if people are new, no giving a kitten if experienced players know it.

If that kittenes off someone so much they quit the group, that’s probably a rage bullet dodged later anyhow. What it does do is cue the new players without them having to admit to anything.

Pretty much that. When dungeons were popular back in the day, some players started to think they were above everyone else if they could finish idk 10 dungeon paths in one hour. And then started speedrunning and so called elitism and of course, lets not forget pinging gear. So players new to dungeons quickly learned to shut up and be quiet about their lack of time invested in dungeons because otherwise they would be kicked out of party. That spread to fractals.

So, basically players keep their mouths shut about not knowing what to do so they could do it and get to higher lvl fractals – otherwise they will be kicked out of party and not finish the desired fractal. Because there are a few players that rage about everything but majority is nice people with patience to explain something to someone who doesn’t know it.

And also there are always groups on LFG with min AP restrictions. Which is absolutely nuts because AP is nothing more than means to acuire Radiant Armor (or Hellfire if you want). AP is in no way nor it will be in my opinion measure of someone’s skill in this game. You can have at least 7k without touching fractals/dungeons and honestly doing a certain path/fractal a few times you get the idea what you need to do/improve and there’s not much else to learn. Yes, you could go into details to everything but the more you do same things the better you are at them.

Item Shortcut / Action Bar

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chibi.2537

chibi.2537

I don’t see that as a problem. The thing that distinguished GW1 from WoW and other MMORPGs at that time was the fact you only had 8 skills to use and that was it. No quickbars to take half of your screen and no need to have every item in your bag mapped to a key. The beauty was that you had hundreds of skills per char and you could only use 8, and you had to think about which skills you’re going to take on which mission/area – not like WoW just take all the skills all the time.

Similar thing is in GW2, you have 5 weapon skills, 5 slots for profession/racial skills and f1-f4 profession mechanic skills. That’s it. So, like in GW1 you choose what skills to have at which moment.

So, as far as those quick slots go, to me they are not needed at all. And if they ever find their way in the game there should be just a few of them, but I don’t see any other use for them than to bind food or oils/sharpening stones to them because I think these items would benefit more from these slots than summonig ogres’ pets/elementals which have 30 min cooldowns and other players are better to have around in lvl 80 areas than rock dog. Those items are pretty musch useless because you don’t have to be in a party to benefit from other players nearby and almost always you can jump on a champ train and do it without problems.

Who to take to 80?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chibi.2537

chibi.2537

I always suggest having an 80 Mesmer for one reason, if nothing else: World, JP, and minidungeon exploration is orders of magnitude easier due to Portal.

I agree with this. And seeing as you mainly play PvE it’s a good choice to level mesmer. On the other hand, it’s really not that time consuming/hard to level a character to 80 and as you play mostly PvE it really doesn’t matter that much which profession you play as Dungeons/Fractals/WvW are where it starts to matter. Honestly the best answer I could give to you: as far as PvE goes – play what you like.

[Discussion] Your Main Issues With The Game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: chibi.2537

chibi.2537

1. Pets
Ranger/Archer/Pet master is always my main in every MMO, and I wish I had more direct control of my pet. First I would like to be able to see what buffs/conditions my pet has and have more direct control of his non-controlable skills/attacks would be nice. That also applies to Necro’s minions, and it wouldn’t hurt if they regenerated health out of combat as chars do. And as an added bonus pet evolutions from GW1 would be cool also with pets changing in size depending on level.

2. Skill/story progression/freedom
When I made first char in GW2 the thing that amazed me the most was freedom and unlocking weapon skills. It was so simple and natural, you use your weapon and unlock skills for it. Sure, come classes (elementalist) required more time to unlock skills for single weapon then others but that’s ok – you have more time to play that weapon weapon and see what skill does what and choose your weapon of choice. And you had freedom from the start, there was TP guy right at the beggining and I went to see who he is, and realized it will come in handy later. Hearts/vistas/skill challenges/POIs were all unlocked from start and you saw an empt heart or vista and went to see what it was. And then story missions, lets say you had astory mission for level 14, and you were level 10 – if you wanted you could do it and finish it. That was also cool because you didn’t have to be exact same level as the mission to access it. And hearts were a beath of so much needed fresh air – it was a quest, ok; go kill these boars, or pick these flowers… and the best part – when you’re done no need to come back to the “quest giver” for rewards (except that he is also a trader). Ok, hearts stayed the same but all those other things changed for the worse for me. I mean you don’t have downed state till like 5th level (I’m not sure really) and that was also a surprise because when I lost my health for the first time I thought: “well that’s it” and then I got a second chance. All those changes were made because players were “overwhelmed” with content from the start and they needed to level gate it, and level gating skills is so underwhelming compared to how it was. I am a player who likes leveling alts so that became really boring for me, good thing I have many Tomes of Knowledge.

3. Underwater combat
This was also a new thing I haven’t seen a lot, if ever, in MMO. And it was cool, New skill for underwater combat – ok, nice. And I regret not playing PvP when the underwater map was still in rotation which I think I would like however unbalanced it was. They just swept it under the rug and left it there. Because it’s easier to put/take out a few things instead invest some time in it and balance it.

4. Dungeons
Haven’t really played dungeons since they revamped them. But they made them almost insignificant in terms of rewards per path. Instead focusing on raids.
