PvE is so easy that any class excels (except maybe engi who is just a broken class imo)

Because Feast of truffle steak dinners cost about 30s to make and somebody is offering 50s for them maybe?

This hasn’t been the case for at least a few days (I would have noticed). FoTSDs cost 50s to make (+ getting the recipe)

All someone has to do is hammer the market down with even the smallest supply and this guy is kittened.

I pretty much cycle between the exact same ~10 items constantly and it never loses effectiveness. I branch out when I feel like it, but in general, I can “autopilot” a small set of given items ad infinitum.

In general, the higher the profit margin on a flippable item, the more investors become interested. The more investors, the more buy orders. The more buy orders, the more “overcutting”. Finally, the more overcutting, the quicker the gap narrows.

Now let’s say the item gets all the way down to 10% margin (from 100% for example). Practically no investors feel it is worth flipping and the pattern repeats backward:

Less investors are interested and the number of sellers exceeds buyers. The “supply” of buy orders slowly diminishes and the profit margin grows. This continues until the margin reaches a point where enough investors are interested and so we start all over again.

Think of it like a repeating wave function. In fact, I’ve approximated curve functions for certain bulk flippable items (such as cheap runes) and most of them remain VERY accurate over the course of time (with minor shifts in the curve up or down of course)

SO the conclusion that can be drawn is that you can effectively have two sets of “staple” items that you’ve found that reliably give a profit. Just alternate between the two sets depending on whether each set is on a “high” or “low”.

impressive and useful. There is an issue, however, in that the number of results per page for an item search is tiny almost to the point of non-usefulness. Is there a way to display more results per page? Even relatively specific categories have way too many pages to sift through, especially since the pages are randomly ordered. It only sorts items on a per-page basis and not globally, which practically makes sorting useless.

All of the other features are great though.

Life in most of the world is typified by forced competition to survive, and this game is supposed to provide diversion from an increasingly harsh reality.

And here is where we are irreconcilably different. I am a competitive gamer (coming from high level SCII, DotA, CS) who plays games because I love the competitive factor. You play games for a different reason which is fine. I could never see myself using a game as a diversion from some “harsh reality” though.
GW2 is already a REALLY casual game, though. To somebody from my background, it seems effortless to play compared to other games. Getting a Legendary is the ONE remotely challenging thing I can see in this game in addition to perhaps extreme fractal levels.
PvE other than high level fractals is a cakewalk, PvP is full of awful scrubs, and WvW is WvW. How much less challenging do you want this game to be? The entire game is casual. There is ONE element that requires skill, planning, or dedication and you want that gone. I do believe that is a bit greedy and selfish myself.
If I truly just wanted to play a game, not give a kitten about anything, and just relax (as you seem to say you want), I wouldn’t care whether I had a legendary or not. As long as I could do content and mindless activities then whatever. “Swing your shiny swords around nerds. I don’t care”

As for the crying about “everyone getting it”, again, it’s psychologically unhealthy to be proud of something only because you know it is denied to others, but many people seem to have bounded rationality in this way, hence what I am clarifying above.

Are you an elementary school teacher? This statement is completely and utterly wrong. If you enter a state or national competition, are you not proud when you win a 1st place medal? You earned it over the other 1000 competitors. According to your logic, this is a ridiculous way to go about things. Everyone should have medals! It’s unhealthy to be proud of the fact that everyone else is denied a medal except yourself.

People already get their participation certificate: Full exotics are very easy to obtain with the money from a single 100% map completion. Legendaries give no additional stats, no additional game features, no additional anything. They are purely cosmetic. They can be thought of analogously to the first place trophy described above.

So no: legendaries should be exclusive only to the tip-top skilled and/or dedicated percentile of players who really “deserve” a weapon with the status of LEGENDARY. I know this grinds against your carebear elementary school mentality, but you have to accept that there is something in GW2 that can’t be obtained by your average no-lifer just ’cause he played ’lots.

I believe most of the condescending sanctimony in this thread can be summed up in one of the following:

1 ) Player has little understanding that most markets are imperfect without intervention, and supply and demand in a market only produce a healthy one for consumers when anyone can enter the market.
(MMOs make both of these factors much worse, because the “markets” as they can be laughably referred to are entirely artificial)

2 ) Player “has his” and feels entitled to defend the misery of the vast majority of players who just want to be able to advance at a reasonable pace in a game (without their experience held hostage to insufferable people who are psychologically dependent upon the deprivation of others)

For point #1, a competent economics curriculum going beyond the 211 level along with accompanying courses in logic are sufficient.

There are fixes to #2, but not ones ANet can provide.

As a reminder from intermedate levels, many assumptions about what make “pure free markets” healthy break down under scrutiny (both in mmos and often in the real world, but MORE often in mms), including but not limited to:
1 – ease of entry for competition (both direct and indirect substitution)
2 – perfect distribution of information
3 – high elasticity of demand for any one product
4 – perfect liberty to bring goods to market (in the real world, when sugar gets too high, companies can sub in corn syrup. Not in any MMO i’ve seen)

points 1 through 3 also apply to drag down capitalism in the real world and create market imperfections which must be corrected through intervention to restore competition (though many are also CAUSED by intervention, but evaluation of this is on a case by case basis).

point 4 is unique to MMOs. Recipes are fixed, no matter how logical it would be to allow such substitutions.

Good job copy-pasting out of your textbook. Bad job saying anything meaningful.

Standard economic major style.

Who says that precursors and other legendary mats SHOULD have reliable sources? They aren’t required for any content. They are entirely optional. Legendary’s should only be for a small minority of exceptionally skilled, dedicated, or lucky players. As it is, I really notice someone who walks by with a Twilight on their back. The players who own one are few and far between. I don’t own a legendary, but I look forward to having a truly special item when/if I obtain one. Dilluting obtaining a legendary into merely a lukewarm achievement is highly undesirable in my opinion.

U. Dye bubble?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: demonwing.5843

demonwing.5843

The price of unidentified dyes has been rising at an astronomical rate over the past week. Very recently, it has risen upwards of 60-70% above the price. Although this can be partly attributed by a rise in expendable player income as more players turn toward cosmetic items, the price inflation is being even further accelerated by speculators who have noticed (pretty impossible to not notice) this upward trend.

It is pretty safe to say that there is a rather substantial supply of uncirculated, unused U. dyes sitting in banks and inventories for speculative purposes. This is a perfect recipe for a market crash especially if a couple big investors decide to dump their supply at some point.

Then again, maybe U. dyes really ARE just that popular and demand will eat up any built up supply. Maybe the market will just stabilize.

What are your thoughts on U. dyes? Speculation/fad bubble waiting to crash or a real trend of increasing demand? Are they worth it as a long term investment?

I personally am making a profit off of riding short-term price fluxuations because the item moves so insanely fast. I am not/would not make any sort of long term investment. Any supply I buy is flipped within a couple days.

Dueling in?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: demonwing.5843

demonwing.5843

Whatever makes you think Gw2 is based on PvP- I guess that is why they spent 5 years developing a huge world to PvE in?

I would use a block botton if there is one- that won’t solve the problem of open world dueling in a game that is essentially designed around co-operation.
It won’t solve the problem of DE’s- where some people would rather duel the players than help with the actual objective.

I ask again what is wrong with having an arena to dual in?
The fact that everyone who wants to duel seems to ignore this suggestion makes me just think that the anti- duel faction has a very good point.

As for the game being stale- speak for yourself.
As for people not wanting dueling being selfish- what about people wanting dueling?
There are hosts of other games where you can do so- why must GW2 conform to every other game out there for you to be satisfied?

How slow are you? No alarms went off in your head as you wrote this illogical drivel?

How are DEs relevant? You’re proposing that everyone would suddenly catch the “duel flu”, drop everything, and start dueling each other whenever an event started? That’s kittening hilarious. Might as well take out all PvP with that logic. “But there is the issue with DEs. Everyone would rather log into PvP/WvW than help!” That’s kittening dumb. How did that pass the stupid filter in your head and hit the keyboard to begin with.

as for “how am I selfish but you not?” Must not have thought about that one very hard either. Dueling is an optional feature that does not affect those who do not duel. Basically if you don’t duel it’s none of your kittening business. Again it is like someone saying “I don’t like WvW so just TAKE IT OUT I hate it”. That would be selfish because many people like WvW. He can just ignore the tab and it would have zero affect on him. Hard concept I know but try to bear with me here.

As for your arena thing: why? Why is it necessary. “Why not.” isn’t an answer. Besides that, there are actually several reasons why not. Primarily, if everyone is forced into a single area to duel it would take a performance hit for a majority of users. It’s also just plain inconvenient. Let’s say you are waiting outside a dungeon for your party to form (main application of dueling). Wanna duel with your friend? better drop 4 silver round-trip to waypoint to the dueling arena. Finally, dueling shouldn’t be that big of a deal. It’s a super casual 1v1 generally against friends. There is no reason to put such a large amount of resources into some crazy elaborate system just so sensitive Morrigan doesn’t have to see duelists in the distance from time to time.

Wow. How selfish can you be? “I don’t like duels so I don’t want you to duel either!! Wahh”.

It doesn’t affect you and it’s just for fun. If you want to duel you can duel and if you don’t you don’t have to.

“But people spam me!” First of all, this almost never happens to begin with. If it’s REALLY that big of an issue though and you REALLY thought REALLY hard for a second or two, you’d know a simple “ignore duel requests” function would be a full fix.

demonwing.5843

I hate pointlessly bashing people who try to provide community content (even if it isn’t necessarily top-notch quality) but bro you need to drop the attitude and stop coming off as a giant kitten. You brashly assert that others are “uneducated” and unintellectual when you have the rhetorical skills of an idiot. It was legitimately frustrating listening to you try to speak. You also have the nerve to ridicule those who value in-game currency when you’re ENTIRE GUIDE is on making in-game currency. Making fun of your target audience is a bit insane wouldn’t you think? Finally here’s a reality check smallson: you aren’t making kitten off of your youtube channel. 3k subs (bare minimum required for pay-out) with less than 1k views per week? Enjoy your check for $2.50 at the end of the month.

As for the actual guide, it’s full of extremely obvious and overly vague examples and information. You hardly need a 14 minute video to cover what you covered. In addition, your general conclusions are way too long-term and require way too much capital to be usable by a vast majority of the playerbase (and, frankly, if they did have the capital or diligence required to pursue some of your investment concepts, they surely already know everything you have to say anything).

Good effort, though. I truly hope you do somehow eat and pay your bills off of your guides.

The only reason people skip those fractals is because the others are too easy. Buff Swamp and Water.

Level 20+ fractals are NOT “casual” content and are NOT meant to be breezed through by a team of randoms. There is plenty of casual content in the game. Why would you take the small amount of high-tier content away from those who enjoy it? That’s pretty selfish.
