Legendary armor for non raiders…you had 9months since HoT release. No infos until now.
You force players to play raids, but a huge chunk of GW2 players play this game, because it was different to other mmos with their raid endgame.
Do you have any plans for non raiders to get a legendary armor? Or do you stick with this stupid idea to link the legendary armor with the raid? You know, lots of headstart GW2 player waited 3years for a legendary armor.
If i want to play raids, then i definitely wont play raids in GW2. There are tons of other MMO´s, with more and better raid content.

So no new content for non raiders for another 2-3 months.
Screw those raids…all the work that went into them, for 2-5% of the playerbase that actually play them. What a waste of time and work.
And the raids did nothing for GW2, except making GW2 feel like every other mmo…its a shame, i repeat myself, from being a special mmo with new ideas, we got WOW2.0 with HoT.

What do we get with the next expansion? I hope for a new tier of gear, 30 new levels, oldschool quest hubs. And lets get rid of shared loot and those stupid farm nodes for everyone. /s

The first introduction of challenging content was fractals and it implemented a system that kept to this philosophy by having scaling difficulty levels. The first 20 levels did not require any type of ascended gear and even the most casual player could participate and experience the content due to the lack of difficulty. The only downside was smaller rewards compared to the higher fractal levels, but you were not blocked from participating in the content itself.

On top, you get upleveled to lvl 80 in the fractals….

I know, everybody has slightly different ideas of what “casual” means.
But spending 30mins to 1hour just to find a grp and organize this grp, isn´t that much casual friendly for me.
Oh, and someone has left the grp…just wait another 15-30mins to fill up the party again.

Guild Wars 1 Characters were made by:
- going into town and swapping around your build numbers
- armor capped out at certain stats
- armor was mostly a skin
- skills were everything, there were lots of them, and mostly everyone you met who was good did something you had never imagined quite that way (because there were so many skills
- focused on making a good story
- focused on great exploration and lore
- focused on PvP

Guild Wars 2
- had a good premise
- accidentally had awesome character and world development around Scarlet
- had focused on skin collection
- had focused on exploration
- had focused on WvW
- had focused on PvP
- failed to develop all of it
- allowed years of neglect on all of this create a momentum of entropy
- created powerful distrust within the community about the company for basically never getting on the forums
- cemented powerful distrust and now dislike by simply never flipping the “on switch” for things as simple as the Super Adventure Box after years of request
- concept art and presentation continues rival in-game content
- disregards consumer base
- behaves like an abusive deceitful parent

Raids?
Raids are wonderful idea.
Should raids be Guild Wars 2?
No.
What’s to do if you have already powered through Guild Wars 2 content because you’ve played any other MMO ever and thought you needed to do this or you wouldn’t be competitive / able to play?
Raids.
What’s to do if you don’t want to raid, bored with it right now, or your guild isn’t doing it just this very moment?
Nothing.

Did Heart of Thorns kill Guild Wars 2?
If it didn’t it’s surely trying.

As i wrote in another thread:
Just rework raids to guild missions, scaling from 10-150players…with different rewards, depending on the time the guild needed to finish the guild mission. People who want to play together, have nothing to do, except the same boring guild missions and spending money for guild hall inventory.
Let them achieve their goals together…let them grow by beating this content.
Raids in the current state force elitism and many guilds split because raid content always excludes a large amount of players.
I know players, who only play raids because of the reward…it´s not fun for them, but it´s the only carrot on a stick for them.
You can´t even experience the story, if you dont raid…and 99,9% of the time you cant even experience the story of the raids in your own pace. Talk to NPC? No, dont have time for it. Listen to this dialogue? No time…sorry…

Just a huge mess.
But hey…GW2 is now like every other mmo. Was something special from release till HoT…now it just feels like every other mmo.

Another big disappointment with HoT.
Nothing new for guilds except Guild Halls and scribe, together better known as the immortal gold sink tag team.

I think it would have been awesome, to see the actual raid content as a guild mission. Make it scale from 10-150 players, and your guild has actual something to do beside spending gold and boring guild missions.
Let them earn the GuildHall inventory…

It was a feature pack 2014…ANet introduced something everybody was asking for. Account bound legendaries and ascended items. Players wanted to share weapons they earned between all the twinks.
And you tell me, i am the only one, who shares his legendary weapons between his chars?

Exactly Sykper…. most people myself included if smart will still have your legendary set + 1-2 other ascended sets all with static stats simply because of runes…. why pay money to rune change on Stat changeable gear when you could just keep your old Ascended (WHICH ARE THE SAME TIER STATS AS LEGENDARY) and make each full set for a specific Stat.

Until free rune swap on legendaries is a thing i don’t see what the QQ is all about for this legendary armor that isn’t even in game for probably another ****NINE MONTHS****….

On top of all of that any baddies that are saying no time for raids… they have been beaten start to finish in 16mins…

Afraid you don’t have the skill to aquire said purple armor…

On top, writing in capital letters even makes it worse.

Like i said…runes are not the problem…there are 2 expensive rune sets…the rest is round about 1g for a whole set.
But i begin to repeat, for people who aren´t even willing to read anything.
Pls stop with your random “everything is awesome” posts, it isn´t.
If you think it´s awesome game design, to wait and then buy a spot in a raid grp that will carry you through said content, then i can´t help you anymore. Go buy some arah paths and show off your dungeoneer.

Just because you can’t raid doesn’t mean the world is ending and there is no casual stuff to do. There is plenty of casual content in this game. The majority of it is still very casual. Adding different types of content to appeal to different groups makes sense. It’s rather selfish to feel that hard content should not exist because you can’t do it. Not saying you feel that way, but I’ve seen people here pretty much say that and I strongly disagree.

There is plenty of stuff…4 new maps, a little bit of story…and, yay, 3 new legendary weapons.
So, what to do today…DS? Did it yesterday, and 4 days ago, and the last whole month since HoT release. TD? Oh, yesterday as well, and 5 days ago, and the last whole month since release. AB? VB? Same…
Don´t get me wrong, i love these maps…they are mostly awesome designed, the meta events are most of the time very good. It´s not like you have seen everything after doing these maps 1 or 2 times.
But you can´t say that HoT offers that much variety…playing on 4 maps since HoT release is getting boring very fast.
The story is good, but it´s short as hell. The moment you think, now the action starts, the story is already over.
All those achievements don´t offer that much variety, cause you play those 4 maps and this tiny story for them again…and again…and again…and again…and again…

And i am not saying, GW2 shouldn´t offer different content for different playstyles and preferences. But you can make this content more accessible for all kind of players.
Just take a look at fractals…i guess most of you don´t even know, that you get upleveled to lvl 80 in there.
I played fractals with players, that never played instanced content (dungeons, raids etc) in any mmo before.
And it wouldn´t be the first time in MMO´s, that dungeons offer more then one possible grp size.

Enough said…

I can´t answer every single post here, and most of the time, i have to repeat myself, cause users like Skyper or Slitherin just refuse to read any comment, and come up with allready invalidated arguments over and over again.

I just want to say thank you for your constructive answers, and this nice little discussion.
Hopefully i was able to bring my arguments a little bit closer to you…
I mostly love the content HoT offers, but its a clusterkitten of timegating here, excluding players there, gating content all the way down the road. And all this in a game where everybody could do nearly everything when and where she/he wanted…pre HoT.

And judging from what’s in the game with legendary weapons and ascended weapons, it’s logical to conclude you can have multiple sets of ascended for the price of a legendary. You’re not going to need every single stat set in the game, even with raids.

As a vet, i dont care for gold…i care for convenience. I have 2 Accounts, multiple permanent bank expresses, permanent tp, permanent merchant, permanent hairstylist, i have 17 Char slots, mostly 20slot bags on all chars, i just started to name my twinks after what they carry around…“skins n equip” anyone?
I have dozens and dozens of different armor sets, 15 on my thief. I have to store them in my bank, cause his inventory is full of weapons and armors.
I have 7 Legendaries…and i am even thinking about crafting 1 or 2 underwater legendaries…yes, i am that bored, i think about crafting underwater legendary.

Perhaps i dont need legendary armor, but i want it. Convenience is my endgame…and legendary tier is convenience at its best.

The stat swap feature on legendary’s is a red herring meant to distract from the exorbitant cost of the item, as it’s arguably more convenient to have more than one armor set, given the amount of clicks needed to swap stats and runes/sigils on a piece of equipment (although, obviously not in terms of space management. In that case you open up bag slots in exchange for more work to switch stats around).

You have to think farther…i have to store many things on twinks, just because my bank slots are filled with armors and weapons from different chars. Now, when i wanna craft sth, or i am looking for a skin, a specific item or whatever, i have to log on to different chars. Thats very time consuming…and i have SSD, but most of the times this item is not on the first twink…its not on the second…
So i am looking forward having this 30seconds to switch stats and runes. Its way more convenient then searching the inventory of 3-16 twinks, just because i dont have enough bank space due to hundreds of armors and weapons.

Its 30seconds for switching everything, compared to several minutes of searching through different inventories, logging in and out, playing item shuffle…
I think the winner is legendary armor by tKO in the first round over hundreds of ascended armors.

€: I know, its a first world problem…and i know that many people have only 1 or 2 armor sets (zerker people). For those players, legendary armor is just for blingbling…
But for me, and i guess many other since beta vets, its convenience at its best.

€²: Or searching 1 specific armor from all those in my bank…happened just 2mins ago. Searched one specific set for several minutes…this is just not convenient for a game that is build around “play how you like and try out many builds”.

I wouldn’t save any bank slots as I have to run with different rune sets for different builds.

And how many expensive rune sets do we need? Most of the time you get 6 runes for 20s…and i have all those expensive runes allready on ascended armor.

Another issue with HoT…
Thousands of players enjoy the daily Worldboss tour…Worldbosses are a core feature of GW2.
And there is not even one new Worldboss with HoT. We rely on taxis for organized maps…

Then what do you think the mouth of mordremoth in Dragon Stand is? its a far better boss than 95% of the other faceroll bosses in this game, jungle wurm looking at you.

It´s not a world boss, its an event on a meta driven map, where you have to play for 2hours on this specific map, to get to this encounter. It´s not compatible with the WorldBoss timers, its impossible to join this map simply for this encounter.
And no, its not better or harder then mark 2, svanir, shadow behe…its just a faceroll boss. Glide here, dmg there…never saw anyone dying at this encounter.

€: On top, we have 2 slots open for new WorldBosses. We have 3 Bosses every full and every half hour, but we only have 2 for quarter past and quarter to.

^This precisely. Legendary armor is NOT a new gear tier. I don’t know why people still can’t wrap their head around this.

Well there are two schools of thought here.

1) It has the same stats as ascended so therefore I have the best with ascended so I don’t need legendary so long as I never change my build.

2) I know this content needs condi and all I have is this set of zerger, good thing it is legendary. Fast forward 2 minutes, “OK guys all set”.

As for not being a higher tier, there is absolutely no argument that one offers a ton of leeway in what you can do with it and the other gives nothing more than the stats you choose upon creation. You can change the stats on your ascended with a mystic toilet recipe now, but that again requires inscriptions, shards and ectos to do and is therefore not as convenient.

I am of the belief that if you have legendary you are in a much better position than the guy that has only ascended so therefore I consider it a new tier.

At least, as a vetaran, i would save a lot of bag and bank slot with legendary armor.
Dont nail me on that number, but after some small calculations, i would save round about 150 bank/bag slots…i guess i would save many more, but i dont want to exaggerate.

I wouldnt care…ANet take my money…i´ll buy 20 more bank tabs. Just make it possible.

After 10years we went from “endgame is what you make out of it”, something a huge chunk of the community was very proud of, cause it was nearly a unique feature in MMO´s, to “endgame is Raids”.

I will guarantee that this will not last. It happens for a time. This stuff is gated behind hard content. This pleases the hardcore players. They get to feel better. They get to have exclusive stuff. Then down the road a change will be made. The raid will get nerfed. Or the gear will be available in other ways. The content will now be accessible to the masses. This will please the masses, while the elite players can look down and say “I got mine when it was a challenge”.

This is not the first MMO I have played and I have seen this cycle repeated in other MMO’s

I know…i expect an armor precursor hunt or sth like that in the future as well.
But i didn´t expect that this could happen with the GW franchise. I expected it in every other MMO, but not in this game. And while reading the forums, it seems i am not the only one.
And like i said, this wouldn´t be a problem, but due to the lack of content after 10 month of nothing new, we have all those negative feelings here.

If you feel that changing stats on the go is advantageous, I suggest you make multiple armor sets.

I have 15different armor sets for my thief…mystic forged 4-5 sets lately, because of limited bag and bank slots ( i have all maxed out, before you may ask)
For my first twink, necro, i have 10 different sets…mystic forged some lately as well.
For all my other twinks ( every class at least one lvl 80) i have at least a power, condi and a toughnes set…mostly they have 1-3 other sets as well.

€: Thats only the armor part…its a big mess of not enough bag slots possible.

I am sorry for this thread…this wasn´t supposed to be a rant and discuss thread.

I just wanted to point out my feeling, that ANet forgets where the strength of GW2 is and the GW franchise was.
The possibility of “making your own endgame” was the reason, why me and many other players i know spent year after year playing GW1 and then GW2.

Now, in reference to Swagger, ANet delivers an Addon, designed for a completely different playerbase.
I know that new players mostly spend more money for gems then vets do…i havent bought gems for over 1 year, i just change gold to gems ( but the HoT ultimate Edition…ANet take my money) so acquiring new players is very important for a 3 year old game.
That wouldnt be a problem, but the amount of HoT content is very small. We have 4 new maps, a little bit of story, and one raid wing. Old content was nerfed, and to be true, after 10 month without new content, i am done with Fractals, Dungeons, Silverwaste, Dry Top, World Bosses…
New Fractal rewards is not new content…
I am about to finish nevermore…just xp missing and some leyline sparks.
I just have the feeling, i have finished HoT…just a month after release.

€: I change the stats on my legendary weapons very often.
Runes and sigils dont matter…there are not that many expensive runes or sigills. I already have all of them on different ascended/legendary weapons and ascended armors.
I want to play with my builds, change everytime i feel i wanna play something else. Spending 1gold for a runeset is not a barrier. But Bag and Bank and Charslot space is a barrier.

Meh, if it were more powerful than ascended there might be an issue, but as it is, not too big a deal, similar to how you had to do WvW and crafting to make your own legendary weapon.
I’ll also assume anet will be releasing more in time, if you don’t want to do raids, don’t sweat it, unless the armor is that amazing looking.

Legendary armor is more powerful than ascended…you can switch stats everytime you want. This is the top armor tier, not ascended.

And no, its not the same with the wvw part from the legendary weapon crafting process. You can get those batches with AP, or simple do the pve part in WvW…or play pve on the edge of the mists.

It’s not the first time. There was a time when ascended rings could only be found in fractals. That was amended later.

Holy kitten…i am not sure, i would have to search the wiki history. But i guess you are right.

€: I think i know why i cant remember exactly. Fractals where much more accessible.

Another issue with HoT…
Thousands of players enjoy the daily Worldboss tour…Worldbosses are a core feature of GW2.
And there is not even one new Worldboss with HoT. We rely on taxis for organized maps…

It’s not our problem that everything isn’t just handed to you, heaven forbid for once you have to be a decently skilled player and work for something.

Stop trying to get content nerfed because you’re not good enough to figure it out or you’re not willing to work hard enough to do it. 99% of everything in this game has been handed to us whether you’re a fantastic player, or mediocre.

Great coordination and play should be rewarded, getting rewarded because you “tried” shouldn’t cut it in end game raid content.

Welcome to exclusivity where the men are separated from the boys. There is nothing wrong with how difficult this raid is nor what it requires out of players. This is what raiding is and should be.

If you cant read OP, stay out of the forums…

I am not sure, OP.

I doubt raids will destroy GW2, but it will change it for sure in a new direction I personally dislike. The frirst guild made the entire raid in 11:20 hours a day over the span of 3 days. Tell me what you like, that is not casual. A timespan like this over an extended period of time is a very good reason to get frired, divorced or socially awkward.

I am a little bit happy about the chance to get legendary armor the really hard way by failing the boss and then call it a day. This is indeed important for people like me who are both unwilling and unable to spend their whole gaming time in a raid. It´s something I would normally not give a flying kitten about, but legendary armor is not just a convenience item. it means that you can take on chances most of the time you can´t take if you don´t have a closet of a multitude of other armor sets. Then there is also the nagging feeling that you are a second class citizen if you are not willing or able to do raids. Does anyone really think that people pay for the privilege to be second class, barely tolerated citizen with their own ghettos(read up the description of the word ghetto in the dictionary if you think this has something to do with right wing nationalism only) and camps(core Tyria)?

Hot catered to groups of people I loathe and/or have sympathetic mercy with, hardcore raiders and jumpers. I don´t regret buying HoT either, it would have nagged to much at me not to do it because I wanted to see where it heads and how it looks, but from my perspective it is around 70% grind and jumping garbage with 30% novel and enjoyable ideas.

I really, really hope that Anet takes a nosedive with this strategy and gets more casual friendly again.

I dont like Raids, they are just a big time sink…in every MMO. There is no challenge in this raid, the only challenge is, to find 9 other players, who can decide on their own, when they want to eat and when they have to go to sleep. And sadly, thats a really hard challenge.

I wouldnt care about Raids, i wouldnt even waste a thought on Raids…but ANet decided to gate the legendary armor behind this huge time sink called raid.
I know, its just a cosmetic item, but cosmetic items are the endgame in GW2…and after 7 legendary weapons, it would have been nice, to work on a legendary armor.

The intention to draw new players with this raid content is clear, but i dont get, why they dont pay any attention to the playerbase that supported GW2 for the last 3 years.
I should be happy about new players, but now i am annoyed, cause of the legendary armor in this raid.

PvE Players who dont like to raid, have 4 new maps and a little bit of story…old content like dungeons are nerfed. The new Fractals system is not enough to make me play them again…i think i have seen every single fractal more than 100times, there is not even one new fractal.

The other thing that makes me upset: where is the challenging content? Sure, its more challenging, to coordinate 9 other players, then to coordinate 4 other players. But that should not be the definition of challenging content…or at least, that is not my definition of challenging content.

I think this raid content would have been a great Guild Mission, just make it scale from 10 to ~150 players…but thats another issue. There is nearly no new guild content. They redesigned the ui and the guild xp system. But the guild missions were boring pre HoT and now they are still boring. It´s just a cheap way to get ascended trinkets, not more, not less.
