I was really excited with Echoes of the Past, with how if you failed an achievement on a boss you could reset the boss and try the encounter over again. I thought that meant that our feedback on the annoyances of going for achievements in previous LS installments had been heard.
But now this – we have multiple one-hit-kill type achievements (don’t get seen, don’t get hit by trample, don’t get hit by a whirlwind) and if you fail them you have to start the whole thing over, listen to Faolain being catty, etc. etc… it’s a huge waste of time. Why not implement a similar system to the reset nodes in Echoes of the Past?
How long is “some time”? I realize it’s probably a low-priority fix but the 29/30 in my achievement tracker is really bugging the crap out of me.
Despite the Halloween patch renaming the specific champ bags needed so as to avoid confusion, I still can’t get this collection to unlock, even though I’m specifically opening the right bags (Boxes of Lab Equipment, Thorny Seed Pouches). This is making me not want to open any of the lower tier bags until I’m sure I’ll get credited for them in the collection…
This is really disappointing. Even as far back as the beta weekends I was really impressed with how lifelike the characters seemed, in large part because of the multiple idle animations (weapon-specific ones too etc.)
Hopefully we can get a red post soon either explicitly stating it’s a bug, or explicitly stating the reasons things were changed, rather than making this another undocumented removal a la the personal story steps etc.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very appreciative that they’re adding in new hairstyles.
However, there’s a particular hairstyle that I’ve been wanting ever since I saw video previews from the beta weekends – there was a hairstyle for Norn females that included a feathered hairpiece which would be perfect for my valkyrie-themed Norn guardian, but sadly, that hairstyle never made it in to the initial release, and I’m not seeing it on the Facebook album either. So just wanted to know whether the ones in the Facebook page are the only ones being added… (and if so, if we can expect more in the future?)
As people mentioned, the game calculates giving out the daily dragon chests by participating in the battery defense events. Although probably intended, it’s kind of a poor design given that this screws over the turreters or anybody else cleaning up fingers etc. during the battery phase.
According to Josh Foreman, the inability to resume at checkpoints is technical problem, not a design decision:
And that’s why a smarter design decision would’ve been to NOT make the zones so freaking long. I just now painstakingly made my way through 2-3, avoiding bananas blah blah blah, when I had a sudden disconnect. Boom, all progress lost, checkpoints or otherwise. Now I have to do everything over again, including the climb up the vertical room inside the mountain, which is only artificially difficult because of bad camera.
Also stuck here. Specifically kept a list of zones so that I would know which ones I’ve completed, but even though I just finished the list today looks like one of the ones I did didn’t actually count for the 13… they really do need to update the achievement so you know which ones you’re missing.
Same here. Not sure why this is going on.
I’ve found that if a particular chest (say, Tequatl) bugs out in a given day, it’ll be bugged for the rest of the day regardless of what you do. It’s as if the “already received chest” flag is erroneously set on your account so the game believes you’ve already gotten the reward that day.
I typically do Shatterer, Tequatl, Shadow Behemoth, and Golem Mark 2 every day as I’m trying to save up enough ectos for a legendary.
Pretty much at least one out of those 4 will bug out daily and I will get no boss chest and no daily chest, despite getting a gold-level medal. I do not server hop, and I always make sure to do this once per daily reset period. I use different characters for each event (have 4 alts parked in those locations). It does not matter whether I’m part of a party or not.
It’s been happening sporadically for at least the last few weeks. This bug is extremely aggravating, I hope they’ll fix it soon.
I was hoping that they would rethink the costs of Ascended items in the latest patch, but that didn’t happen. Monetary issues aside, this is just talking about the time commitment necessary to get the Ascended trinkets.
Amulets I will use as a baseline since the only way to get them is via Laurels. They also have the highest stats. 30 laurels, so they are telling us it should take us a month of work to earn one. OK, fine.
Rings – they have slightly fewer stats than an Amulet. So why does it take 35 Laurels, i.e. MORE time, in order to earn one? Furthermore if you run Fractals for only 10 days, then you can pick one of your choice (not to mention having a random chance of getting one along the way). So why don’t the rings cost more like 10 Laurels? “Fractals are harder than doing Dailies”, you might say, but still, you could make it 15-20 laurels… it shouldn’t cost MORE time commitment than an Amulet.
And then Accessories, where the stats are even lower than Rings. They decided you need 40 laurels (a month’s work PLUS the bonus monthly), AND 50 Ectos? That’s insane. If you want to purchase via Guild Commendations, the time commitment is still a little off. Let’s say you’re lucky enough to be in a big enough guild and you earn say, 3 commendations a week (Guild Bounty + Rush for instance, Trek not giving GCs). So you still need 4 weeks of work in order to get a single Accessory, where again, the states are lower than Rings/Amulets. And never mind all the people in small guilds who can’t even use this option. If you look at stats/time invested, Accessories again should be more along the lines of 10 Laurels and maybe 4 GCs.
Backpieces are even lower still statwise. We can’t get them with Laurels currently, but considering they require huge amounts of fractal grind or huge amounts of grind for a stack of T6 mats, they also certainly require way more time commitment than makes sense.
The devil’s advocate side is that maybe I should consider Amulets being “cheap” and that we’re lucky that they’re “only” charging 30 amulets for them. Still, if you want to fully gear out in Ascended trinkets (ignoring backpieces for now), that’s 30+35+35+40+40 = 180 Laurels, or about 4.5 months of Dailies, for a single character. I’m not advocating that they should hand us Ascendeds on a silver platter in a few days, but 4.5 months is pretty extreme. Consider people who say, used all their character slots and have 5 characters, we’re now talking almost TWO YEARS of dailies to get Ascended trinkets…
TL;DR the laurel costs for Ascended items are wildly uneven and should be much less given the stat points you get and the time costs for other methods to earn them.
I recently saw on the wiki that Sunrise and Twilight don’t count as a legendary for the badge on your account medals section (the thing in the upper right when you’re selecting a character). So a few questions for those in the know:
1. Do they still count towards the “Legendary Collector” achievement in the Explorer section?
2. Any plans by Arenanet to fix this? Sunrise/Twilight are no easier to get than any other legendary (harder if you consider the price of Charged Lodestones etc.) and it doesn’t seem right that the game ‘wants’ you to get Eternity before you get the account medal etc.
Apologies if this has been asked before.
Um, hairstyles do add accessories. That’s why there’s a separate area for selecting the color of your hair accessory below where you select your hair color – they come as part and parcel of the hairstyle, you can’t mix and match them.
There doesn’t seem to be a specific subforum for character creation, but since it’s technically the very first part of the Personal Story, here goes.
I recall from videos of the early demos at Gamescom and the like that there were several hairstyles that are not in the game currently. For instance, for my norn female guardian I stylistically try to set her up to look like a valkyrie, and I remember that there was definitely a hairstyle that had a winged circlet as the accessory in character creation, which is no longer in the game and hasn’t been since any of the BWEs. I know there are other hairstyles that were also removed. I’m wondering if these hairstyles will ever make it back in to the game, and am perplexed as to why they were taken out in the first place unless they were causing some major clipping issues (though the hide-helmet option is always there). When you pick Norn then female in character creation the generic norn female portrait even has a winged circlet…
On my laptop (Win 7 Professional), for some reason some of the usual text gets replaced by various foreign characters.

You can especially see it in the crafting menus for instance where an accented E pops up at the end of some (but not all) of the recipes. My region and language settings are United States/English, so no idea why it’s doing this. Furthermore I don’t recall having this problem on my desktop (Win 7 Ultimate, also US/English setting) so I’m not sure what the difference is. On a possibly unrelated side bar, when I play Borderlands 2 it’s my desktop that sometimes fails to render apostrophes properly, whereas my laptop does, so there does seem to be a difference between the character set my two computers are using even though they’re both set to US/English.
I’m not sure if the Profane Armor skin shows up in the mail but have you tried deleting your mail? I purchased some crafting boosters a week after release and thought I was SOL until I emptied out my mail and surprise surprise, it was there.
Oh geez. It actually worked. I did not think mail being full was a problem because the mailbox says “9/10”. Thanks!
Perhaps naively, I didn’t think my issue is related to the 9/19 outage, since the purchase was made earlier, 10 days ago (around the 13th) – not to mention it’s a gem store item instead of an item from the trading post. With gem store items there’s an infinite “supply” so to speak that doesn’t rely on moving an item from one player to another, but yeah, the backend may all be the same.
So 10 days ago I tried to purchase the Profane Armor skin from the gem store. I got deducted 500 gems, the Profane Armor shows up in my “Recent Transactions” sidebar, but I never got anything. I submitted a support ticket, and got an automated “we know items sometimes get delayed, please wait 72 hours” response. Waited 72 hours, nothing – updated the support ticket, and since then, have heard nothing.
Has anybody else had problems buying something off the gem store and it not arriving? If so did you get support to get it to you, and how long did it take? Or god forbid, am I misunderstanding and the armor skins don’t arrive in the mail like other gem store purchases do?
My theory is that when salvage kits refer to ‘rare’ materials they mean one tier higher than normal. So salvaging a 70-79(80?) item normally gives you mithril/silk, but if the salvage kit procs the ‘rare’ material then you get orichalcum/gossamer instead.
Trahearne: I personally find him to be probably worst character. :SPOILERS:

I have no problem with Trahearne being my character’s superior/commander – the issue is with how he also becomes the focus of the story. Look at Mass Effect, as much as people argue about the writing in that series, I don’t think anybody would fault the story and say that too much attention is paid to Shepherd’s military/political superiors like Anderson. If the Personal Story had taken a more subtle approach and not shoved Trahearne in our faces every single quest, it would’ve been much more tolerable.
One of the personal story quests gave me a Letter of Commendation which is supposed to give 400 influence to my guild. Problem is, it didn’t actually do anything and my guild didn’t get any credit. Strangely enough, when I used the LoC I got the ‘2000 influence contributed’ achievement, though, so it seems like the system credited my account with influence gain, but didn’t actually give it to my guild.
And yes, I was representing the guild, and I only have one guild I’m in, so there’s no way I’m mixing it up.
Shortly after head start day I bought an extra character slot in the gem store. I now have 8. If we started with 5, then that means I somehow received more than one slot. (I honestly didn’t pay attention to how many slots there were to start with but I’m guessing it was 5 like the betas – unless purchasing the DDE grants more to start.)
