Sorry let me rephrase…Rtw increases applied dps on FLEEING targets. Correct. Arrows don’t drop off out of range as the target moves away.

I know MT is a great skill on paper but its cast time makes it extremely unreliable from my experience. In fast paced fights I just never seem to get it off in time. I generally don’t have the luxury of using point blank to combo into MT.

It’s not an issue with MT but an issue with lack of you using the skill, as you use it you learn how to lead with it so you’ll be able to catch em in it.

Very very very rarely do I actually start casting the skill UNDER the target, it’s normally off to the side or something so they run into it.

Definitely this. It also has some very nice lockdown/control potential for teamfights.

I’ll try practicing with it some more. You’re assuming I don’t lead with it but I very much do. Problem is people are constantly blocking, dodging, leaping, etc. Cast time is too long for fast paced play. Gonna have a hard time giving up SoH while roaming.

Have you guys thought of any power build dueling specs with 30 SotF? Or hybrid even, it may be interesting seeing the possibilities…

Edit: @Rym How about SoH? Roaming with the 150% burst on pet may work well with glass cannon pets (assuming you mean wvw)

Thing with your build is you don’t need quick draw pet prowess or furious grip. To me it’s a waste of traits. If you’re gonna go with lb, might as well go long range all out!

U don’t need shorter cd on LB because if you’re not spamming #1 from max range ure not doing it right

You’re missing the point. You can’t just sit at max range and spam 1 all the time in sPvP and even when you can, that’s not always what benefits a team fight the most. There is too much Line of Sight in a lot of cases and in others, the best place to perch for ranged attacks isn’t at max range.

Examples:
Forest if Nifhel – the best place to stand for mid is the side platforms that won’t let you get to 1500 range. The side points also have barriers in front of them so that 1500 is impossible.

Battle of Kyhlo – Side points are the only place where you can hit a target on point from 1500 range. Even shooting mid from the top of clocktower is less than 1500.

Skyham – Again, very few places will even allow you a 1500 range shot and none of them will hit someone on a point. The best perches for mid are much shorter than this.

So, unless you just pray that you get a map like Forest or Legacy, you will have some traits that will do almost nothing for you.

In the meantime, Point Blank Shot is an ability which can turn the tide of a fight faster than killing an enemy by preventing a stomp or enemy rez. It also can allow you to decap a point, such as by knocking someone off the Clocktower point in Kyhlo.

Oh, and yes, furious Grip doesn’t do a whole lot, but Tail Wind does give additional mobility. Example: kill the beast or defend home, then swap to melee weapons for swiftness and run to the perch on mid. By the time you get there, you’ll have weapon swap off cooldown and can switch to bow.

I agree with your points. However, RtW ensures that no one can side step your LB shots, which is definitely worth going 30 into. Without it, you may struggle with more experienced players and an overall DPS loss from missed shots for more uptime on LB 4.

Playing with this build is awesome and knowing you can hit any target barring LOS is awesome (esp. with zq).

actually you do. running greatsword axe in duels ……

starting the fihgt with two random dodges….

i loled so hard in the first fight. only thing both did, were random dodges, fail dodges and then your oppenent get hit by eviscerate…
maybe you and your oppenent should learn animations instead of Spamming dodges on cooldown

Hi all,

[INC] is a hardcore WvW skill group that raids 7 nights a week with mid-sized groups. We are on HoD for Season 2 for awesome fights and GvG. Raid times start most days at (EST) 8:00 running until late, and a couple odd days starting at 10:30. You should be prepared to make at a minimum 4 days a week with 7 days preferred. Ideal players are those that have a desire to kill, accept constructive criticism, and does everything they can to become the best player they can be.

We are looking to add:
- 2-3 staff eles
- 1-2 necros
- 2 thieves
- 2 mesmers

Fire is meh, the whole traitline is rather poor. So you burn someone and blind them great for Scepter and its Auto attack, average for anything else and weakened due to the trait line it is in

Air. Yawn. Terrible.

Earth is TERRIBLE. It has very average skills and is pretty terrible when going with D/D at the very least. This trait wont be taken by quite a few i dont think. Being in Earth and with D/D you are not a threat so not being able to be Crit hit means nothing.

Water. Terrible.

Arcane. Terrible. No chance it would be taken over Evasive Arcana.

How about bunker eles? Maybe earth + water would open up pvp options

Well since you say bursty you’re probably running 100 percent crit damage, 40 percent crit chance, power 2800-2900, armour 2700, health 15-16k?

I was looking for a more group friendly build tbh, ‘Takecares’ seems better, i’m finding in team fights immobilise/extended chill or fear is a nightmare if you’re focused. I just can’t find the balance between a 1v1 build and a team build.

Are those stats considered “bursty”? I’m not sure if those stats are even possible, though correct me if I’m wrong. That spread is very ideal.

20/20/30: The Best Lockdown Trait Spread?

I know this thread is mainly about tPvP, how about WvW?

Has anyone tried a lockdown style build extensively in small-man/solo WvW? I am going to start playing it, however I see a couple concerns as of now:

1.) Taking a condi clense + daze mantra leaves you with either blink/decoy and mass invis for escape.
2.) GS and s/s offers a lot of offensive power, cripple, and immobilize. Swapping to s/t allows for an additional stealth with a loss of daze + iswordsman.

What do you guys think? Zerker gear and traveler runes allows for decent defensive stats, and I feel if you swap out zerker pieces for more defense stats then you lose more burst, which I’d like to try and retain as much as possible.

You’re best off between Lyssa & Ogre.

I prefer Lyssa because of the condi cleanse. It comes in handy very often and can be clutch in longer fights/condi bombs.

With a non stealth build like 10/30/0/30/0, how do you approach encounters vs other thieves? Mainly d/x thieves that stealth for the majority of the time

Standard build for S/D is 10 30 0 30 0.
30 points in critical strikes are mandatory for dealing any sort of direct damage.
Acrobatic is better than Trickery as it boosts Initiative gain and Vigor, so you will have more dodges overall.

What about large condi bombs and general sustainability? I played with 0 30 10 30 0 for a bit and struggled with fighting outnumbered due to lack of longer duration stealth + the sustain from 30 in SA

S/D WvW build question

After looking around at several WvW S/D builds, I see that quite a few people use a base of 10/x/x/x/30, usually leaning towards heavy acro/SA or a mix of both. I’m curious as to why I haven’t seen almost a mention about 10/30/30/0/0 or 0/30/30/10/0?

I ran the 10/x/x/x/30 build for a while and had trouble with the lack of raw brute force damage that you could get with the latter builds above. Although I love the trickery tree, why do people prefer a lower dps build over a more bursty type build? If that is the case even, I’m curious of your opinion.

what is your goal for wvw? zerging or roaming?

if u plan on doing only 1v1 or MAYBE mediocre enemies on 1v2 then d/p is the way to go. if u play on doing 2v2 or 1v2 or 1v3 etc then id say p/d is the way to go. basically direct dmg for even 1v1 s and p/d carrion condi for larger attrition fights.

While those are two viable options, they aren’t exactly the only way OP can go. D/D burst takes much more skill and is just as apt at 1vX fights as D/P is, and he can always go P/P if he enjoys the playstyle (and having dual Quips with unload is more hilarious than a ranger spamming 1 with The Dreamer).

i personally dont like d/d bc the only line of defense lies within your utilities.

deathblossom was meant to be the defensive part of d/d but its obviously a total bust.

personally if they turned 4 into some kind of super low dmg but high utility skill on d/d that would have high evade or something it would make the set much much more viable.

dont be decieved by yishis. hes decent. well good. but anyone who looks back can vocalized that they had clairavoyance while playing. also it takes him weeks to make 1 video. when i made my vids i put mine in mostly unedited from a couple of hours straight in wvw. anyways to cut a long story short…all you see is those fights that happen 1 out of 20 times and put them together in a montage making it look viable. when in reality 80% of the time or more you either run….lose….hide…or have so much help from allies. its hard to actually get a 1vx fight and win…. especially with d/d. you need mediocre enemies in addition.

d/d is good … wvw is just not tha best place for it.

You make a few good points. However, why the aggressive stance towards yishi?

You really do a good job, from my perspective, of losing respectability by attacking someone else. Keep that out of here and continue the discussion please.

Anyways, d/d can be a very good build in the right hands and practice – though there are other builds like p/d that are very rewarding with similar survivability and can easily transition into a venom share build like pandicond from messiah for some group support.

I feel that GS WW is too easy to be dodged in wvw/pvp and thats a kicker. Hammer’s MB is awesome and hammer 3, 4, and 5 offer a lot of control on the field. The thing that GS has is the mobility with GS 3
