The feeling of being lost, not knowing where you’re going, is the point of the maps; it’s literally a jungle out there.

Just run around the old fashioned way and learn your way, it’s not that complicated, especially after getting a few masteries to navigate.

No raids seriously?

Normal instanced raids will never be apart of GW2. Any challenging content will be open world minus the typical dungeon. That’s GW2;

Now, they will include raid style mechanics…but, it will be in the open world and/or they may allow guilds to summon like they can now, but it will never be limited to that since it would only benefit large guilds.

Life isnt fair but we’re playing a game here so that fact doesnt hold up. When you play a game you expect to get the whole story out of it not half then the rest of the story is gated behind the gem shop. Either pay 20$, which isnt worth it AT ALL, or play a friends instance but dont get kitten for your time.[/quote]

You are getting the game that was sold to us all and all the story that came with it – PERSONAL STORY. You should read your terms of agreement to know what you should expect if you are confused.

I play from Japan and can be hell, especially when encountering other thieves; dead before I realize I’m being attacked sometimes. However, it’s not entirely game breaking, if you enjoy the class then play it, Yes you are at a disadvantage but there’s nothing you can do about it. If you learn to anticipate the other classes and time your own dodges carefully, you’ll give a few others hell too.

Boost your health and armor a little to take a couple hits instead of running pure offensive stats like a majority of thieves.

Hasn’t anyone heard that life is not fair. Unless past LS is advertised on the box as being a part of the game, there is no reason new players deserve to be able to access it for free – none. Not even taking into account the complaints that would arise from players who were currently playing the game but wasn’t able to log in for whatever reason. They have to pay but a new player doesn’t…

And LS is a good way for Anet to generate more revenue, and the more they can get from LS, the little bit less they have to rely solely on the gem store, which benefits the players – more in game armors, Hooray!

Expansion Thread [merged]

It is clear as day that they are working on expanding the game, they probably won’t call it an expansion, but they are going to show something bigger than just LS season 3. They are introducing new elements into the game.

People get caught up in managing their own expectations, “avoid the hype” and whatnot, but if you just look at the evidence, it is ridiculous. Anet is isn’t denying in anymore. They are in the office laughing at these comments.

First, they were looking to hire a raid designer last year, they even hired that dude who works on consulting for AI, who tweeted last year that he was excited for people to see what he was working on.

They have the main stage at PAX with their two biggest guys. I don’t think they have done that since post launch.

The earnings report, which to be clear, said in 2013 Anet was working on an expansion, then in 2014 said an expansion would arrive in 2015. Now it being 2015, reports in being released later this year.

One of the writers from Massively visited Anet’s offices and came away with the feeling that something big was going on, things he wasn’t allowed to see and hushed whispers.

Also looking at the content they have released, which clearly didn’t require that much staff.

Of course, all this individually means little. However, when looking at everything, it’s obvious. Whether it is new classes, skills, mounts, tacos, who knows. But it is bigger than anything they have created so far. Bigger than LS, bigger than a feature pack, bigger than a new map.

@Equilibriator.8741

The game was going “forward” handsomely without forcing people to have to do the jumping. Now that has changed and the poster has made a valid comment about it.

Jumping is a mechanic. Like dodging. Like running. Like attacking. You can not progress within the game without implementing them.

Certain parts of the game require a certain level of skill while using a mechanic. Jumping puzzles for instance.

Jumping at least within the EP1 story is not skill based, at all…anyone that says it is, is either trolling, exaggerating, handicapped or incompetent.

If the OP finds it genuinely difficult to press the jump key or aspect key, then he should probably play a simpler game.

ekimsfree.9406

Yea, those are good ideas, I had to look up what was miasma when I first entered LA, a studying and learning about it quest would have been cool. I think Anet knows this since they have been implementing small instances to progress the story but they haven’t committed to it as a means to tell the story.

Quests have gotten a bad rap cause they are associated with the repetitive fetch and kill quests, but used sparingly and creatively, they could become as engaging as an actual TV show.

More quest!

in Living World

Posted by: ekimsfree.9406

ekimsfree.9406

Telling a story through open world content isn’t the best way to do it. I know quest are kinda a dirty word at Anet, but it’s needed. Every update doesn’t have to be big group kill kill kill events. Small quests scattered around Tyria that tell a different part of the story would work much better to

A: tell the story from different perspectives and characters, learning motivations and even mundane aspects of what characters are going through or what is changing in the world which ties to the overall story but may not do it in a direct way.

B: Battling zerg fatigue some players have.

We could have had quests delving into exactly how Scarlet formed her alliances or quests to the alliances themselves, who the hell are these aetherblades??

And some quests may be very short, start and end in one update, others progress with updates. Others could be hidden quests not stated in patch notes. Slowly bringing everything together towards the end of a season, giving players that Aha! moment.

Obviously the difficult part is this being a videogame, everything has to somehow tie to the players characters and also be somewhat fun…but I’m not a developer so I’m pretty sure someone can figure it out. Combing the quest like system and tie it into eventual open world content would make the game very balanced for all players and actually tell a multi-layered story while still having fun killing stuff.

Kudos to the fellas & fillies @ Anet

Good job on making a game that gave me thousands of hours of life distraction time for only fifty nine ninety-nine. Game’s not perfect, ascended gear is a mess of currencies, time gated crafting and impossible loot drops. LS needs to be bigger and broader; how’s the war in LA affecting other cities. Some new armor styles without a coat or man blouse is needed, and other distractions besides the same repeatable combat events would be nice.

But you guys actually are trying to improve and it shows. LS is much better, loot has improved…slightly; some utility, elite or movement skill loot drops would be the bees knee if bees had knees. And PVP is on your roadmap; soon finally something to earn besides useless glory. You know, this is the only game I have ever played where I know some of the developers by name, and as a very casual player, that says a lot.

so, kudos I say.

PS story is the bane of the LW. I believe they are working on a means to move pass this problem but it will take time and resources. They would have to basically restructure this PS. That’s a lot of work so it is not happening anytime soon.

But they are trying to at least move forward. LA will be back as a hub though, like 98% sure.

No Second Chances on Rewards

People need to stop caring about what others have and determining their enjoyment from it. The pastures become much greener when you do so.

If you got rewards that no one else has, good for you, and if someone else does get it, it shouldn’t change anything for you. You are not special and should’t feel special cause of a vanity item in a videogame.

If you didn’t get rewards that someone else has, too bad for you, but it shouldn’t change anything for you. This is like elementary where every kid gets a gold star so none of them feel bad.

Personally, limited rewards are good, give the game variety and appeal. I don’t have a jet pack but I think it’s cool when I see one.

The change to it’s range is clearly part of the problem the OP has. It is implied by the words fun and skill he used and asking it to change it back to the way it used to be. He states the issue with it not working as a tack on sentence.

If I need a reading lesson then you should take a basic comprehension course. You know where you read a paragraph and have to guess its meaning, like main ideas and such.

The overall majority of the content in this game is for groups, like 99%. I think it is good to add a little variety, especially for players that don’t like to group. Sure they could just “allow” players to join up together but I’m going to assume then they would have adjust difficulty and then there’s player levels, you know logistics and stuff. Point being this way is probably easier and faster for them to design. Anyway, pretty sure they will add more group story content in the future, let the solo players have a little enjoyment too.

They put dragon skins in the shop I would easily trade my gold for gems for them. So how in this process does Anet generate revenue? Whereas if I want a realistic chance at one with the current system I would have to buy an enormous amounts of crates that would easily exceed the cost if they were in the shop. Add the psychology of “a chance to win” and I would potentially keep buying after I ran out of gold at which point I would have to use real cash.

Of course there are other ways. I think their vision of being the top MMO added with thier expectations multiplied by the games cost is influencing their choice of which model to pursue.

They have the statistics on all of this, who buys what and when and how much.

RNG isn't the problem, gems are

Posted by: ekimsfree.9406

ekimsfree.9406

Every event players posts about not being able to get that pretty new skin. Begging for an end to it and why don’t they just put the skins in the gem store. Anet won’t. They would lose too much money cause most players would just trade gold for gems to buy them. In fact, the ability to trade is what’s hurting most of the game.

They make it hard to make money for casual players to keep players from being able to trade for too many gems.

They nerf farm spots to control the player income.

I bet if players couldn’t trade for gems, RNG would mostly end. The gem store would explode with skins.

To be clear, I don’t see this as malicious or evil, just a company who made some bad design choices and trying to survive. Every thing they do is in response to their business model which has severe sustainability issues.

They released a new area within months of release so they couldn’t have spent much time on it. You may argue they shouldn’t have made it in the first place if they couldn’t put ample time into it, which one would counter in a game whose income is based on cash shop purchases which rise considerably during special events, it probably worked out for them.

I remember reading they were going to expand on it in the future so I see it more of a place holder for future content.

To clear things up about "A dying game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ekimsfree.9406

ekimsfree.9406

Every MMO I have ever played has claims of it it dying when “OMG I don’t see anyone playing”. Apparently Wow has been dying for 6 years. Your experience does not equal the World. Your server is empty, mine is full. Lower zones are empty, Lion’s Arch is packed.

I don’t think people understand GW’s business model. There’s no sub so it’s assumed players will temporarily stop playing but because of it being free, will return later, especially when there’s something new like a monthly or one time event. And when they have these events people spend money on limited time only chest and items.

I’ve read nothing but negative response to the Karka event yet Anet has shown no plans to stop doing them. Which is very likely because they made a hell of a lot of money.

This game would only be dying if people are no longer spending money in the cash shop. If someone only plays a week out of the entire month but makes a purchase on something shiny, Anet’s made money. I’ve personally never spent real money on this game, so what happens when I stop playing…nothing.

Also, they are still hiring, which is something companies usually don’t do when they’re not generating income.

You don’t need the new stats to do the new zone content, just like you don’t need exotics to do Orr.

This will have little impact on WvW, many people do fine in just greens and yellows.

I don’t understand, in a PVE game, why do people care what stats other people have? These stats aren’t enough to change your effectiveness in any dungeon, you can do current dungeons in greens. And you can do the new dungeon in exotics until you go far enough where you need the condition protection.

And in WvW stats mean very little, you can join in at a low level with low level gear and still play.

I’m all for it, been playing less and less. It seems when they release new dungeons they’ll just add a different defensive infusion which isn’t a treadmill since stats will be the same. If they release a new tier with every new dungeon then that would be a problem, which isn’t the case so far.

Only thing I’m a little concerned about is whether the skins will look decent. Not really feeling the look of many of the sets now.

There isn’t any ascended armor yet so you can still craft the best armor, and it’s pretty much certain they will introduce new recipes to craft Ascended. Only thing needed to do the dungeon is the Agony stat which is only needed in the dungeon.

This is just something new to do, the stats won’t make you or other players gods, Ascended armor when released will be easy to obtain like exotics now. They’re even making legendaries easier or at least not as random.

Seriously not a big deal.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ekimsfree.9406

ekimsfree.9406

I don’t think people understand why this is needed, they want to add a level of customization to gear in which they can build on. Exotic lacks that currently. Sure they could just upgrade all the exotics in the game but this seems much easier.

Now, the stats seem to be the big problem with many posting. But they need to do two things, push people to go for the gear so enough have it in the future and give those that feel they have nothing to do in the game something to do. They planned on legendaries occupying more of peoples time, which they don’t seem to be doing.

I don’t see any problem with broken promises unless they continue to create more tiers in the future. Right now this seems to be just a new system from lack oversight.

The tenets of the game are still here, you don’t need high end gear to access any part of the game or compete. It’s all optional.
