The DBL will either give a server a massive advantage over others as no one will go near it, or a disadvantage if the server that gets it, has there playerbase avoid it,

This makes no sense to me.

Nobody wants to defend the BL so it’s a weakness

I’ve been working on a Guild Emblem Editor this week, mostly as an experiment.
It turns out all of the other emblem editors out there seem to be down, so I thought I’d share this one with you.

Hopefully you guys like it, let me know if you have any issues with it.
If you have suggestions on how to improve the tool, I’ll try my best to include them!

I’d also like to thank the guy who took the time to get ALL of the emblems in the SVG format. Couldn’t find his name, but great work!

I only just got this game a few days ago and have managed to get to lvl 35.
My guy was going well and in most things I was having fun. But now he’s only got one trait point (not 25) and I feel like I took a giant step back.
I really liked the speed increase trait I had but I don’t think I can get it again until lvl 50? Did characters who are under 80 just get mega nerfed?

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Halt/Eliminate:

  • Stat Progression
  • Level cap progression

Reallocate toward:

  • Character capability expansion
  • Account capability expansion
  • Player skill expansion

1. Character capability expansion in the form of new skills, abilities, and traits. This is the epitome of horizontal progression – expanding your character’s capabilities without increasing their stat power or level cap.

ANet has created one of the best, most fun, and interesting combat and talent build systems in the industry. Double down on that. Give us more of it. Stat progression is boring by comparison. I know the balancing may be more difficult, so just add these things gradually, like the healing skills. One new addition every ~3 or ~4 months would be fine.

Also, ideally, make them rewards for accomplishing something in the game – Living Story Meta achievements, a certain Fractal/PvP/WvW rank, quest series, etc. – rather than just for skill points or gold. That’s a richer and more rewarding experience.

2. Character meta expansion. Another good example of horizontal character progression would be achieving more convenience and flexibility. Expanding bank & bag tabs, deepening slot caps from 250 to 1000, etc.

Another thing that could be done is, make Ascended gear as or more difficult to obtain than it currently is, but give it the ability to swap stats like Legendaries. Legendaries get aesthetics and stat swapping, Ascended only gets stat swapping. As is, the mere idea of gearing up my 4 80s with multiple sets of Ascended is so exhausting I can barely even contemplate it, but if each only took one set whose stats could be swapped at will out of combat, that increased convenience would be more than worth working for. Of course, you’d have to figure out what to do Rune/Sigil/etc slots in such a system but I’m sure you could figure that out.

3. Player Skill Development. Simply, less frequent but more challenging content updates. Reduce frequency to one per month, and make them difficult, like Tequatl, the Molten dungeon, or Aetherpath dungeon. Some of the LS updates have added great new challenges, others have been just an unchallenging achievement grind.

Also add a “Solo” category to the achievement system for people who do things like Solo Lupi, Mossman, Archidiviner, or open world champions like Champion Risen Abomination, Khol Skullcrusher, etc. Other than insanely fast speed kills/speed runs that’s some of the most interesting and challenging stuff in the game, and people do it for exactly that reason – they don’t even get a title or gear reward or Achievement for it. If you must provide a reward, provide titles only as the reward, no need for any kind of item there.

4. Skill Gating, not Gear Gating. FotM has the right idea – same dungeon with multiple levels of increasing difficulty and challenge, however not the right implementation. Agony is a form a gear gating, but what we really want is skill gating. For example, the Uncategorized harpies start off simple and gain knockback at level 10. That is proto-brilliant dungeon design, and would have been straight brilliant had all of FotM had been implemented like that – no increasing Agony levels, but instead increasingly difficult dungeon mechanics. That’s more work for the dev team than adding mere Agony damage, but the result is a much more interesting experience based on skill gating rather than gear gating.

The key idea is expansion, not progression of game assets, but achieves player progression as a nice side effect. Expansion of capability and convenience, at the character level, account level, and even player level both requires and confers player skill progression. This achieves the same level of player investment in the game (via their built-up account), but without the burnout associated with endless gear stat treadmill grinds. Every addition to your character/account/personal skill/accomplishment repertoire is energizing – it refreshes and reinvigorates the game – rather than draining and burnout-inducing.

Guild wars should have an account bag for items such as infinite gathering tools and salvage-o-matic and anything else that is meant to be used on an account basis. bag would be available by all characters and act as another bag but would only take account bound items

So you wanna have a pretty constant grasp on the NE and SE camps. Whenever they flip, flip them back. As soon as they flip, talk to the quartermaster. You should order the increase supply delivery upgrade. Then you’ll want to make sure that these dolyaks make it into Hills.

NEXT. You want to upgrade the walls in hills first. Pretty simple. Keep on camp sitting and yak sitting. Then you order doors. NEXT you want to order cannons. These help repel golem rushes. Next, mortars. These do the same. FINALLY you want to start waypoint. This takes a lot of care to make sure it executes correctly. Keep on yak sitting. Finally, if there are no trolls on your server, you should be left with fortify keep and a bunch of useless personnel upgrades. Do fortify and yak sit like there’s no tomorrow. THEN. YOU WILL HAVE. A WP IN YOUR HILLS.

If your trolls queue services, you’ll have to wait another hour or so. Sucks. If you find an anet developer in your endeavors, you should kill them. Then, use your sit emote (/sit) to show them your respect and admiration of the game, you simply cannot stand in their presence. To show your full gratitude, /sit over and over so the point is emphasized.

Addressing the population and momentum issue, and speaking from a server that has a huge SEA, a lowish to medium NA, and almost non-existent representation any other time:

While outnumbered, there’s almost nothing that server can do to stop an enemy zerg from taking everything. Towers are fortified with people on siege, while the other few people on the map try to run in. The siege barely affects the enemy zerg and the tower is inevitably lost. The power boost to siege in the form of superiors and mastery benefits all servers, but it is extremely overpowered in the hands of the winning zerg. This is not including how currently, omegas allow the winning server to completely roll over everything on the outnumbered server in minutes without repercussion or any chance of retaliation. Also, the outnumbered server is unable to retrieve their territory for some time until population reasserts itself.

This type of domination is of course the result of server imbalance, but the pace at which the outnumbered server loses everything despite having some valiant players on the map is demoralizing. This ultimately comes down to an issue of encouraging defense and allowing the outnumbered server boosts to defending, or reducing the incentive to siege or continually siege the outnumbered server.

Several solutions (which have been mentioned) would work, if implemented together:
1) Incentives to go after structures that have not changed ownership in a while
2) Incentives to go after the server with more presence on the map
3) Incentives to defend (Dev team has said they are working on this and that it is difficult to implement, but hopefully a solution can be found soon as this is probably the most important change that could come to WvW)
4) Free transfers to lower tiered server
5) Ability to keep guild upgrades after transfer
6) Less incentive to PvD – a zerg can take down reinforced door without siege much too quickly even while being sieged
7) Contested swords appear quicker on structures, allowing faster response time, and structures stay contested, especially if enemy numbers are within
8) Contested swords do not appear from npc attacks
9) Remove staggered league rewards until population issue is more balanced
10) Modify or remove the way superior siege and masteries work, or reevaluate the effect that stat creep has on empowering the winning server.

Most of these suggestions would encourage some transfer to lower servers, allow an outnumbered server faster response time, and encourage populated server to hopefully not spawn camp in the search for ppt.

The most drastic change that could be implemented is to do away with ppt and implement a system based on kills, how long a structure is held, how upgraded it is, and perhaps scaled somewhat proportionally to population present.

The most interesting thing about it is that you can’t prove anything. So called saboteur will deny it and say he was just playing the game. The only thing anet could do about it is giving players way to dismantle siege machines, but that would be a tricky mechanic hard to balance. Maybe give the ability to ‘take out’ your siege supply with 20% loss?

It doesnt take much foresight to see this kinda thing happen but they are too focused on pulling new people in and not taking care of the ones they already have -_-

lol, you don’t have to pay to troll this week, free trial got extended. I’m sure trolls on all the servers (we all have them) got free accounts to troll the other servers. Unavoidable really. Sucks, but at least it seems to have happened pretty equally to all of us.

Crazy turnout by BP tonight. We definitely need to nail down our reset strategy of personnel distribution before leagues start. Looking forward to another evenly matched week.

easy. Saying the Devs don’t like GvG is a rash generalization when it comes to the ‘event’ that took place, the guy wasn’t even apart of the WvW team.. that’s like saying that the teachers don’t care about Math because the janitor interrupted a class.

Gaming companies like this absolutely have the same philosophy. If the employee was confident enough to voice it out loud in-game, you can only assume that it’s even more true when they talk among themselves.

Having followed Anet since GW1 and how they designed and handled things as a gamedesigner myself.
They have become the opposite of what I thought of them before.
They intentionally make players mad, they intentionally make game modes unballanced and easy, they do not talk to their community, they do not listen to their comunity, they do not fix crucial bugs in their game and they punish feedback with bans.
lets not forget how they break everythign they said.
No power creep and no gear grind.
Only 1 spvp mode which is based on capping points instead of fighting with broken builds. Easy grind pve. And now this will be the karmatrain

-The dev is a bad guy because he didn’t want to move from that spot?
he wasn’t playing your gvg game as it was intended (but he didn’t really do anything wrong.. as much as i know, you can stand wherever you want).

-You are the good guys because you organized a gvg match in the wvw world (you weren’t playing the game as it was intended).

Basically you’re saying – it’s ok if we do it, but it’s not ok if they do it. gj, kids.

Please look at the video and understand the context. The matchup was finished, a server was ticking 500+, what else is there to do but make our own fun?

You are LUCKY that anet hasn’t made a features to counter gvg’s altogether so far. That doesn’t mean you are playing the game as intented. That doesn’t give you the right to be bad namecallers. Gvg people are the most arrogant people in wvw, the most spamming people on forums/twitch, you anoy the crap out of anet, and you are amazed after all this time a Dev lost his ‘professionalism’, shortly after being called a lot of bad names? That being said what the dev did was wrong. There’s no excuse for it. Anyway the bad name calling people, can for the most part, thank themselfs for what just happened. And that should say something. I know a lot of games, that are way more brutal in the way of enforcing the game how they intend you to play it. Anet isn’t like that. You guys cheating wvw 1000’s of times with Gvg’s that are not supposed to happen there. They still haven’t stopped/banned you for it. Be gratefull. A lot of games would not be that kind. This is not fanboyism btw. I played other games. Where i had similar issues wanting to play the game like i wanted it, but the devs disagreed. And they completely inserted countermeasures, so it wasn’t even possible to be stubborn and still do what you want. Calling Anet bad for giving you so much freedom when they don’t have to do that is very unrespectfull. And I can’t help but agree with them, they are not very motivated to ever create gvg now. That’s on you guys (bad namecallers, arrogant ’we own this gvg spot, all interferers are: bad name). Nobody else.

Don’t lump all of the GvG’ers together. I see people acting like kittens in sPvP, WvW (as intended), dungeon groups, etc. But those communities aren’t labelled as “arrogant”. And they did put a countermeasure in when they introduced bloodlust, which made GvG unable to be balanced.

How are we “cheating WvW 1000’s of times”? There may be a few guilds that only do GvG, but the majority of them are the most active WvW guilds in their servers. It seems like many people are completely forgetting that the people that do GvG typically are the ones giving a huge positive impact on your server’s WvW. So don’t act like all GvG guilds are “cheating” you out of something, because most of them are in fact helping you out the most.

I believe the main verbal abuse was mainly before he tagged up, AFTER they told him to move a few times. But hey more than anything it is evidence of the communities anger at what WvW has become.

The rule is kind of unclear. What constitutes “authorized personnel”? So any ANet employee can whip out his giant “I’m special” guild tag and start ordering people around?

He was justified in whipping it out when he was being slagged for just standing there.

For some reason, folks seem to think that having an anet tag (or just being a random player) is an excuse for them to be treated like kitten, and that they should just take it because they are employees. I’m glad he spoke up, regardless of the underlying incident, because folks were acting like entitled brats.

Hopefully this won’t derail any progress toward GvG, because using this as a reason to kitten about it IMO is lousy, and showing them support just shows support for the toxic behavior that’s become rampant in certain parts of the community these last few months expecially.

I do agree that the situation could have been handled better by the players, but what was the need to pull out the ANet tag? He could have said whatever he wanted when nobody knew he was an ANet rep. He used his ANet tag to non-verbally intimidate the other players, which in my opinion, is extremely unprofessional and childlike.
