I am not referring to the divinity runes.
When I said celestial, I referred to the one thing in the game relevant to this thread with the word “celestial” explicitly in it.

So to clarify this statement are you denying that the following items below are “Celestial” just because they aren’t all specifically labeled “Celestial” in their title?

Why don’t you just admit you didn’t (and still don’t) understand EXACTLY what Celestial refers to. You approached this topic from the narrow scope of sPVP (and even in that limited purview got it wrong by overlooking sPVP Runes of Divinity).

You then compounded this original error by making the demonstrably false assertion that Celestial “doesn’t net you more stats” based on a single sPVP amulet/jewel (this assertion is debatable btw depending on how many stat equivalencies you assign to the 20% crit damage on that item).

For the last time, an item is considered Celestial based on the stats it offers not on its name.

Based on your faulty reasoning, “Celestial sigil” is celestial but the “Ancient Mursaat Token” is not (even though both these accessories have IDENTICAL STATS besides the utility slot—defensive or offensive):

Stats refer to Primary Attribute x 6 (all)/Critical Damage:

sPVP & PVE Runes of Divinty 60-all/12%
Solaria, Circle of the Sun (ascended ring) 43-all/6%
Lunaria, Circle of the Moon (ascended ring) 43-all/6%
Eye of Janthir (ascended amulet) 54-all/7%
The Eyes of Abaddon (ascended amulet) 54-all/7%
Syzygy (ascended amulet) 54-all/7%
Triforge Pendant (ascended version amulet) 54-all/7%
Ancient Mursaat Token (ascended accessory) 38-all/5%
Celestial Sigil (ascended accessory) 38-all/5%

Lastly, Anet’s wiki clearly refutes your statement (feel free to look it up):

“Celestial-type items which have stats in all categories typically HAVE SUPERIOR RATIOS OVERALL, but they lack focus and will incorporate stats which may be of little or no use to a build. "

This whole thing was about that one question you had?
If you are confused about whether I’m referring to one set of gear with one word or two sets of gear, its alright to say so without complaining that I’m spouting “incomprehensible gibberish” and “trolling” and “derailing the thread”…
I won’t hold your hand word by word threw what you don’t understand, but if you work out what it is and ask, I can clarify…
I swear people won’t hunt you down and get your home address, email, phone just to constantly laugh at you for years because you don’t act like a know it all on the internet…

You should take up a sport though, its a good pastime, there are studies done that people who run more live generally happier lives, its good stuff…

And like clockwork, straight out of troll playbook:

1. completely ignore salient points of last post—above all else refuse to admit complete and utter failure to understand topic
2. wade into a discussion and immediately invalidate yourself: “I don’t WvW/PvE” (rofl)
3. engage in veiled threats: “people won’t hunt you down and get your home address, email, phone”
4. change the subject and resort to nonsensical statements about life, sports and boxing
5. make excuses like “I haven’t slept in 30~ hours”

and the list goes on and on…

do you seriously believe the non-PvE/WvW celestials net more stats?

Six Runes of Divinity offer 360 stat points plus 12% Critical damage in both the sPVP and PVE versions (60 precision, 60 vitality, 60 toughness, 60 condition damage, 60 healing power, 60 power, 12% Critical damage).

Are you seriously going to argue that any other Rune has stats anywhere near that level? I guess your only recourse is to argue semantics (that technically Runes of Divinity are not Celestial by name) when everyone refers them to them as Celestial and frequently use them in tandem with Celestial ascended trinkets in PVE.

The defining shared characteristic of all Celestial items is that they spread stats among those Seven attributes irrespective of an inconsequential name discrepancy (with the caveat that the ascended versions also give an 8th stat boost to magic find).

definition of the word (celestial)—Belonging or relating to heaven.

definition of word (divine)—Of, from, or like God or a god. synomyms: heavenly – godlike – celestial – supernal

The two words mean the same thing and are synonyms of one another. Do you think this is a coincidence of usage by Anet?

You should really get into boxing or something, a good way to take out that anger, without of course furiously typing up then deleting posts on forums while being baffled by basic English.

It’d do you allot of good, I promise

When your arguments make absolutely no sense and you are unable to communicate above a dyslexic drivel the last resort is an ad hominem attack (attack the person not the inherent argument). Rage posts like this just further expose your trollish antics.

isn’t it bothersome that equipment is split for pve/pvp? I understand the reasoning behind it entirely, but it creates an unnecessary knowledge gap, which is definitely frustrating)

I agree without reservation the discrepancies between PVE and PVP item availability is troubling and becoming more convoluted.

Why no exotic soldier jewel (Power/Vit/Toughness) for PVE but the equivalent is wrapped up in the soldier amulet/jewel in sPVP? Why no apothecary gear available for sPVP when there are exotic/ascended versions in PVE? It is idiosyncratic oversights like this that are perplexing.

My biggest qualm is Anet should give us a roadmap of the next year for target dates as to when ascended weapons/armor is going to be made available.

Should we be farming/storing prisitine fractal relics and laurels on a daily basis in expectation of future ascended Celestial pieces? I wish Anet could temper their secretive instincts and give us a definitive answer on this topic.

It doesn’t net you more stats.
Logically, if you are getting an even bout of everything you would need to gain more total stats, to take into account specific stats helping the build more than others.

But you don’t…
So its worthless.

*I don’t WvW/PvE

A truly baffling statement given it is clearly established that you do gain more stats overall with celestial ascended and/or runes of divinity. I don’t know if it is a lack of comprehension or just plain denial on your part but your statement is completely wrong (the part about you not playing PVE or WvW may partially explain your apparent ignorance).

Stats are Primary/Secondary/Secondary/Critical Damage

Normal Ascended Gear:
•Amulet: 126/85/85/9% – Total: 296 points
•Ring: 103/68/68/8% – Total: 239 points (478 with two)
•Accessory: 91/60/60/7% – Total: 211 points (422 with two)

Total points with normal gear: 1,196.

Celestial Gear
•Amulet: 54-all/7% – Total: 378 points
•Ring: 43-all/6% – Total: 301 points (602 with two)
•Accessory: 38-all/5% – Total: 266 points (532 with two)

Total points with celestial gear: 1,512

The stat superiority is amazing (to the point that I think that they are going to nerf Celestial as Ascended weapons/armor are likely introduced over the coming year). If you recall there is a precedent for nerfing Celestial (Divinity Runes got nerfed from 18% crit dmg to 12%).

This Celestial 343 point stat advantage doesn’t even include Runes of Divinity that give you additional >100+ stat AND 12% crit dmg bonus depending on which Rune you compare it to.

I think Celestial is a no brainer for Ranger but to each their own.

Question for Feaux and Deamhan: Nature Magic III “Nature’s Bounty [NM]”- Regeneration you apply lasts 33% longer); What specifically does this trait extend??

It does exactly what it says, it extends regeneration that you apply wich can be from traits, runes or healing spring to yourself, pets or other players, in his case from the minor natures magic trait and runes of dwayna.

Wow that really cleared it up a single sentence vague generalization. Do you even bother to read full posts? The trait applies in some cases of regen and not others (that is the whole point of examination/clarification “wich” seems to be lost on you).

The only thing I see Nature’s Bounty working with is the Salvari hound’s regen howl (I have yet to test this) which makes it a good combo with Commanding Voice which you said you use. Assuming it works.

Edit: Just compared the pets howl with and without Nature’s Bounty. No difference and I reconfirmed Troll Unguent as no difference.

Question for Feaux and Deamhan: Nature Magic III “Nature’s Bounty [NM]”- Regeneration you apply lasts 33% longer); What specifically does this trait extend??

1. “Troll Ungent” – Regenerates health over time for ranger and pet but wiki says “Does not apply regeneration” so NM provides no extension.

2. “Signet of the Wild” – applies regeneration to you and pet, but the regeneration is constant while the signet is passive so again NM provides no extension.

3. Nature Magic minor “Rejuvenation” – You gain regeneration when your health reaches 75%—Grants regeneration for 5 seconds—so this is extended by 1.65 seconds from NM and further extended by Rune of Dwayna (+20% Regeneration Duration) for 1 second?

4. Beastmastery III “Compassion Training” – according to wiki, At level 80, this grants 350 healing power to your pet—so again NM has no affect on it.

5. Fern Hound (howl to grant regeneration to nearby allies) NM does not affect this regen according to Deamhan’s testing.

6. Nature Magic minor “Fortifying Bond” – Any boon you get is shared with your pet;
wiki says “regeneration is 5 seconds and is affected by boon duration and Nature’s Bounty”.

7. “Healing Spring” – Create a spring that heals you, your pet, Grants a 3s Regen every 3s for 15s; NM extends this.

8. “Natural Healing” Beastmastery XII- Your pets have natural health (this is a constant regen for you and pet).

Summary: Nature’s Magic appears to only extend Healing Spring, Rejuvenation, and Fortifying Bond (only 1 of which you have in your build Feaux). Please let me know if this incorrect.

Great build Feaux, thanks for posting but I dont understand your statement “after only a couple seconds in a large fight, you can stack 40s+ of regeneration boon” unless you are referring to the Signet of the Wild and Natural Healing that are constant.

Boon duration only works on the ranger, not on the pet. Fortifying Bond gives fixed boon durations to the pet and (AFAIK), can’t be affected by anything. Stats from armor only affects the rangers, only points in BM and traits can affect pet stats.

Thanks for response. That actually makes sense now that I think about it if you could extend boon duration on pet in that way it would be OP.

I’m gonna stick with Superior Runes of Divinity then, the 360 stat points it brings plus the 12% critical damage is too good for me to pass up (I find all other Runes too situational in comparison). When you combine Divinity runes with the Ascended Celestial (Divinity) trinkets x5 those bonus stats really add up.

Shortbow does well in full Divinity trinkets + Soldier ascended backpack + Knight armor + Berserker weapons in my opinion.

Clever build that works well.

I believe using runes to extend boon duration like a lot of d/d Eles run might do very well in this build; be an effective alternative to runes of melandru/hoelbrak.

Using:

2 superior rune monk,
2 superior runes water, and
2 of either major rune sanctuary/monk/water

will give you +40% boon duration for you and your pet in theory (gonna try this setup tonight when get a chance).

To partially address the lack of condition removal lost from ditching the other runes, the superior sigil of generosity is an option (60% chance to transfer a condition to your foe on critical hit with cooldown of 10 seconds).

Hey fellow arrow slingers I’ve gained invaluable insight into the class and discovered our most effective builds here (as well as from informal conversations in-game with other dedicated/knowledgeable Rangers).

Wondering if there are others who see potential value in creating a guild of other Ranger enthusiasts? Alts of all classes would certainly be welcome.

Last night, I randomly was assigned a hotjoin sPVP group of 3 other rangers: we did surprisingly well but more importantly it was a good time had by all (everyone laughed and enjoyed spamming conditions/arrows; by time targets got within melee range they were dead).

A ranger centric guild for grouping purposes for Fractals/sPVP/tPVP/WvW would be potentially fun and useful for sharing migrating builds in reaction to the meta. Kind of a Ranger think tank.

Please post if you have any interest in this idea (perhaps there is already one running of which i’m not aware). I believe a good location would be on one of the Tier 1 solid PVP servers like Jade Quarry although I’m flexible. Thanks for your consideration.

Ok, I updated with data on moving targets.

@ Methal: Cats look good here, but remember that they have totally inferior numbers for defensive stats and realistically won’t survive a lot of situations. After all, a dead pet does no dps. This is why I tend to choose canines for most all around situations.

Dahkeus incredibly useful info thanks very much; based on your research I think I’m going to compromise: keep Jaguar and pair him with a single Canine.

Questions:

1. Which Canine did you use for the tests?;
2. Which Canine do you recommend or use yourself in WvW (Alpine Wolf, Fern Hound, Krytan Drakehound, or Wolf)?

Does Crossfire (shortbow auto-attack) in a full set of Apothecary armor/weapons/jewelry do more damage with this set up than full set of Cleric’s armor/weapons/jewelry?

I know the answer depends on how well you can flank to maintain more bleeds but let’s assume average flanking ability in a standard 1 v 1 match versus a thief.

There are diminishing returns in the game. A good way to see this is to add 100 power to a build that has 3k attack already versus adding 100 power to a build with only 2k attack and noticing how much the damage scales (you should see less of an increase adding to the 3k than the 2k).

This is incorrect. There are no diminishing returns to adding Power in GW2.

Power to damage is a set ratio according to Anet’s published equation:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage

“Base direct damage is given by the following equation:
Damage done = (weapon damage) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)”

The LACK of diminishing returns specifically related to power has been discussed on multiple threads such as this one:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/I-think-we-might-need-Diminishing-Returns

“Going from 1000 Power to 2000 Power will double your DPS, and going to 3000 Power will increase it again by the same amount.”

Power of course does not increase the condition portion of those skills/weapons that do both direct damage and condition damage (condition damage is determined by another equation which does not contain power as a variable).

(4): 25% chance to gain Protection for 4s when hit. (Cooldown: 30s)

Some things to consider when comparing these two builds:

  • Survivability/damage of pets?

Deadhead you nailed the seminal issue. The whole point of 30 BM is you can go full dps pets (cats or birds) and not have to worry about them dying easily to AOE. I think Olbugga is one of many trying to relay that whatever conclusions Anet is finding out about the class internally is not necessarily translating into the real time scenrios happening in WvW and PvP (just as the orb idea seemed good internally and played out not so good externally).

They have a certain vision for the class that is admirable and sounds awesome but has yet to realized in the current gaming environment. I for one am willing to wait for this vision to come to fruition and it is not my intention to come across as completely bashing Anet. They have given us a great product for which I am grateful.

“I am sure that high-tier PvP players can come up with all kind of crazy builds that are viable as well.”

Andlat you sound like an optimist and I respect that but the reality is that NO top drawer, competitive tPVP teams use Necro as it is simply less effective in comparison at that level (sure their are some rare exceptions by some extremely gifted players; these are isolated cases). 1. anecdotal evidence 2. first person experience and 3. gathered metrics indicate that Necro in its present state is simply inferior/less used especially when compared on an apples to apples basis with mesmer/guardian/thief in terms of competitive play team abilities:

Poll of over 5,000 GW2 players indicating Necromancer is the least played class in general (and as one MBA professor drilled into me “the market never lies”).

http://imgur.com/a/O2e9X

Corroborative evidence consisting of multiple threads backing up the fact that Necromancer is extremely unpopular across the board (for instance):

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Necromancer-least-desired-class-in-spvp/first#post72967

This rings true no matter how many times one is given “l2p” responses by other classes who are laughing all the way to the bank.

Even John Peters the lead game designer himself admitted THREE MORTHS AGO that:

“The problem this is causing for Necromancers is that they do not have a lot of build diversity in this meta, because they don’t have any great power builds they can turn to. What I would like to try and do is increase build diversity…I don’t believe we have really seen what strong Necromancers can do yet.”

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/I-play-a-necro-but-I-traid-a-warrior-for-one-play-session/page/2#post116878

Mr. Peters has yet to make good on these assurances and we seek to provide a helpful reminder that this and other tweaks still need to be executed. We are dutifully waiting.

“The silence on this issue is as I expected because there is no such viable build.”

Oldbugga I think you honed in on the seminal issue. It’s crickets cause they have no response either willfully or out of sheer ignorance from no one on the staff playing Necro on any sort of routine basis. It is their loss as we all know that Necro attracts some of the most ardent, passionate and dedicated players in the game. It is easier to cater to the masses (Warriors etc.).

Still the figures don’t lie, Necro is one of the least played classes (in particular in sPVP /tPVP) for a reason (metrics validate this) and it’s a shame for many of us who have invested hundreds of hours into this class to be willfully stonewalled by Anet.

However, sometimes the squeaky wheel does get the grease so if we make our displeasure heard in a reasonable but strident manner they may have no choice but to revisit our obvious and glaring shortcomings (surely someone on staff is monitoring this thread?). We can only hope.

Oldbugga:

Thank you for offering up this challenge. The onus is on Anet developers to provide more detail in how they expect Necromancers to be successful in an extremely competitive environment (WvW and sPVP).

From extensive conversations in-game and on the forums with other competent Necros it is nearly UNANIMOUS that the current state of Necro is unsatisfactory in its current permutation. To say it mildly, we have problematic mechanics and the most unsynergistic trait lines of any class (hey lets throw this in this line even though it makes no sense here).

Despite my reservations, I will continue to play this fun class even though my biggest gripe is that we are unable to run down an opponent who is intent on escaping in many situations.

In a party setting, it is almost guaranteed that Necros are running in the rear. Everyone laughs at Necros lack of movement advancing skills (no skill like Warrior sword leap) in addition to our lackluster/mediocre swiftness skills.

Wake up Anet: Access to swiftness alone isn’t enough to be competitive in WvW (and as for our most commonly cited/used movement skill, spectral walk, the secondary feature of spectral walk is a retreat skill not helpful for running down a wounded opponent). We play like a disproportionately slow caster tank in WvW.

Why Signet of Locust not work in Deathshroud?

Signet of Locust equipped does not work while in Death Shroud (you instantly lose the 25% speed buff). In comparison, the dagger/dagger trait “Quickening Thirst” does work while in Deathshroud.

Anet: Why would you make it so one 25% speed buff works in Deathshroud (Quickening Thirst) and another not (Signet of Locust)?

It is these sorts of inconsistencies that make many Necros want to pull their hair out and gives the impression that the class was rolled out in a less than polished manner.

Perhaps when you introduce the upcoming UI to Deathshroud the Signet of Locust will work. Moreover, our lack of mobility skills other than access to swiftness is a huge disadvantage in WvW and needs to be addressed with an additional movement skill (otherwise even FEWER people will run Necro in WvW/PvP).

Come on guys throw us a bone this class feels neglected in both game play problems and the general lack of developer input/presence on our forums.

Working in Deathshroud: Active weapon sigils DO appear to work in Deathshroud. For instance, Sigil of Air is helpful in a power / crit build to add extra punch to Life Blast (common sense dictates that you probably did not intend some things like sigils to work in DS while other not {active signets}). Again, it appears there was some unintended omissions when Deathshroud was conceived that you now how the great opportunity to correct.

Thank you for your attention.

Why do people think in terms of stats instead of thinking about builds…
Anyone can wreck your “immobile fortress” with half the stats and a better optimized build….
Jesus…

try this one for instance..
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=;0_-30GKlHVI0F43KkJ0;9;5T9J9;118A1;027-2;0U-F4aJG6jwmAjwmA2ZZ

If you had bothered to read the thread before posting your wildly inaccurate and absurd statement you would have seen this build is optimized for WvW / PvE (not sPVP / tPVP).

Posting a half-baked sPVP condition build (i.e. all the stats wrapped up into the amulet and jewel) is beyond unhelpful. If you think your build is so kitten fantastic post it in the appropriate place not in a thread for sharing info entirely about a WvW power build.

Sheobix: thanks for all your hard work, tireless responses and patience.

Runes the only way to remove conditions?

Wookie:

There are two additional ways (in addition to Runes) for a Warrior to remove conditions that being:

1. Sigil of Purity: 60% Chance on Critical: Remove a Condition (Cooldown: 10 seconds)
2. Mending healing skill removes 2 conditions instead of healing signet which you have in your spec atm.

My build is similar to yours but I forgo Beserkers power to put 15 into discipline for “fast hands”. Being able to switch weapon sets every five seconds is indispensable in WvW (a class defining skill and a clear advantages in terms of mobilty set offhand/ every other class has to wait 10 seconds to switch).

As you know from your build, all shouts:
1. Shake it off
2. For great justice
3. On my mark
4. Fear me

All four remove conditions with Rune of Soldier (not to mentions shouts heal grandmaster trait is synergistic with conditon removal).

Like you I also stack Power/Vitality/Toughness exotics—shout healing Warrior with P/V/T exotics plus a couple Cleric’s exotics to slightly increase healing power is very strong (just remember that power does nothing for condition damage so to make the most of that power you need direct damage weapons i.e. mace or greatsword or axe as your using).

You have a solid build I would just strongly suggest you switch to mending.

Thanks freak. So i figured it out (I have no life atm hehe). Master Maintenance Oil is working as intended Anet just goofed on the description.

Here is the right one to use:

“Superior Sharpening Stone: Gain power equal to 6% of your toughness; Gain power equal to 4% of your vitality”

This is amazing cause it is technically a tool not a food so you can use it AT THE SAME TIME as the Omnomberry Bread or Orrian Steak Frites (omg this build just gets better and better cause of all the info sharing and Sheobix’s efforts!)

See attached: with Wvw bonuses + food+ guild buffs = 33k health, 3.7k attack
