About only way to kill a good engineer
Pop TG
Throw Gunk in front of your P/P thief
Let the confusion build…I run P/P or P/D just for this ability. 10+ confusion stacks, plus bleeds, plus dmg, plus thief…Dead bunker engineer
Then you dont understand its uses imo…Its my opener on just about any class. Open with that on any thief, and within secs he is spamming HIS without ever landing a hit on me, and due to its “cast time” I will interrupt that as well against other thieves. You just dont understand how effective that ability is…I would like a .5sec daze, but the interrupt is just amazing when used correctly though.
What? Who uses HiS in response to getting a tiny amount of vulnerability stacks? XD
yep..I read it is headshot….Bodyshot is meh at best lol
You’re only further proving how ignorant you are on the subject, you’re obviously clueless. Burst D/P builds are almost identical to burst D/D builds, with only a couple modifications to suit WvW i.e. less power from the DA trait line, all of which is made up from Sigil of Bloodlust stacks. In sPvP, the build is EXACTLY the same, but you wouldn’t know that. I’m only pointing this out because people like you provide wrong information to people trying to learn.
too bad you are the only one on this thread that thinks that way. I’ll just ignore you like the others.
Eh? Hotcake isn’t wrong about this for sPvP…the usual 25/30/0/0/15 D/D build can also be played with D/P instead and is how I run it myself.
Its also how every single top Thief in sPvP specs, but there’s no point arguing with fools. The same build is also perfectly viable in WvW, but some people prefer 15 in Shadow Arts for perma stealth rather than a full 25 in DA since its really easy to make up that loss of power in WvW.
Dont fall into the same trap as the other poster you talked about…
Sure D/P is run 25/30/0/015…many do run this (and I’ve started seeing alot more D/P users, which is nice, since I’m grow tired of people telling me I’m hacking in /map and tells). I’ve been D/P since game has come out, I have run multiple builds….Each has its plus. I personally enjoy 0/30/30/10/0, others will want 15 in trickery as they feel they need the extra regen from a steal/and 3 larger pool. I use my spec and gear to make a very balanced build (17k hps, 3k armor, 3k attack, 43% critical dmg), I almost always hit back harder than you hit me.
I run mainly sPVP and hotjoin…I more of a soloist vs party player

Utilize your death blossom, don’t forget, it’s not just there to apply bleeds, it’s also an evade.
Once you see the smoke field, they’re most likely gonna hs to you, that’s when u death blossom to counter their blind and prevent their stealth, and u should be within range still to CnD and stealth yourself giving u the upper hand.
Deathblossom uses alot of ini too so don’t forget to manage your initiative
LOL…WOW
/D specs will always have trouble with D/P, if played right the pistol off-hand skills let you control the fight
Why would you even use Fleet Shadow? :|
Every other trait seems like a better option.
LOL….Its a MUST have for any BS build
i found some bugs in thief traits section, after testing around i found out some traits do not work with pistol off hand skills
the traits “ankle shots” , “pistol mastery” and “richohet” do not aply when using following off hand pistol skills
-shadow shot
-head shot
-black powder
-pistol whip
Should some of them work though? I can see the full off-hand HS and BP, but when it comes to Shadowshot, its a dagger strike not a pistol strike. I believe it reads fire a blinding shot (not dmg), that allows for a DAGGER strike. The pistol plays no part in the dmg. Now for P/D #3, its strike with dagger, then shadowstep away for a PISTOL shot (that should work with pistol mastery). With PW, the name says pistol, but the dmg comes from the Sword…I just cannot see the justification for getting the pistol dmg increase unless your actually using the pistol for dmg
withdraw and roll for init go with facing of your avatar, not the facing of your view.
Coming out of stun spamming withdraw can end badly, specially since it does not break stun…Maybe make withdraw a break stun? Perhaps that would increase its popularity and take away from hide in shadow. Less complains on stealth is what we want right?
Popular or not (I run it over HIS anyday), none of our heals break stuns, and they shouldnt, we have stun breakers available in our utility spells. Each heal serves a purpose, and imho work nicely when you compare them.
I like WD like it is, and can easily control the direction I want it to send me
PVE/WvW it is way too easy
Hot Join:
2.9k armor
3.0k power
22% critical (not a concern with correct traits)
43% critical dmg increase
17.5k health
This is what I run for D/P and S/D for pvp….I have been toying with SoM and some other utilities….You can obviously change things around to make it more towards pve.
Alright… what about… this build!
(these are meant for PvE btw…)
That does change things then…LOL
I was thinking pvp….I havent done any pve so not sure what would work or not tbh LOL
Which will do little dmg…
Your survivbility is based on the fact you can dodge alot…Nothing more? Where is your iniative regen? Off steal (most thieves have this) and then the 4 every 30sec your heal ( bad selection of abililites), or 4 every 60secs off SR? Anybody building this into a build would take Withdrawl or SoM (both 15sec heals) or drop SR for roll (6 every 45sec and a stun breaker which you lack). A 100-B warrior will kill during haste, a S/P thief is going to kill you in one burst PW spam with lock downs. It has little survivability, just ability to dodge (which isnt going to save you the entire fight)
Low Critical
Low Power (unless you gear for all power)
Low Survivability
Bad major talent selection
Is you plan to just roam around spamming dodge/getting into stealth (not healing) and taking lots of physical dmg/condition dmg?
If that was your plan, I think you have accomplished it nicely.

Your positioning matters more in S/P when you can’t stealth out projectiles as readily is how I feel. At least when I’m fighting D/PS everything is about how well I’m aware of my placement. If he stealths how long I think I have before warping away. Dodging BP so he doesn’t get off HS. Not getting stuck in bp since even if we both use it he gets stealth from it where as I do not. Can’t afford misses my 2 and 3 are more expensive. Can’t chill in PW he will time it or even spam Back stab till I’m out. On a flip side S/P can abuse terrain to insane levels juking more than a running back. Abusing terrain you can commit to nothing and be a threat.
SS (#3) works extremely well at chasing, it will teleport you right to the target abusing terrain just as easily…I typically use this against S/D and S/P thieves as once they return, they typically have the feeling of being ok for a few secs
I run D/P and S/P (off-weapon) especially if I see alot of mesmers/engineers on other team. They work greatly together, I find the Sword does better over dmg in my play style than running SB. I do not do WvW, and i dont zerg in hPVP
