Candy Corn Node Item Problems?

If you go in to the human city of Divinity’s Reach (or any other race’s city), you will see an area that is marked as your “home”. This is your home instance, where you will find your node of candy corn. This isn’t race specific, you can be human and go to the Asuran instance if you so please. You are only allowed to mine it on one character per day. Once you mine it, that’s it until reset the next day.

That’s exactly what I wanted to know, thank you!

Mesmer skill illusionary leap

well, happyjedi: Guardian’s GS leap is also a move that can be used without a target, and has much better pathing than ILeap. Guardian also has superior pulls/area-denial
(Love those Warding moves). Frankly, I’m ok with that setup. Guard has far crappier
range, after all. They need stuff like AoE chainpull/walling off areas. As for myself, I’d
be fine if ILeap’s cruddy pathing was finally fixed. The way I usually use it, I’m getting back out of range soon after.

I understand and as a Mesmer user (with a guardian as main) I do feel like you said.
The fact is the text on the first post of OP was somewhat a request to let the leap be a 1200 range skill, and maybe my interpretation was wrong.

The thing I don’t actually like is that heavy armor does not feel like heavy armor at all; having light armor classes with nearly the same amount of armor as a guardian or a warrior is absurd.
Everyone should be able to cover the tank role BUT it should be mostly based on class skills instead of HP and armor.
While using my guardian I really feel ashamed that, for example, a necromancer arrives and he/she got the same amount of armor, 1/3 more hp than me. I think he/she should rely on utility/weapon skills instead of pure raw armor/hp; shouldn’t armor/hp be generally associated to soldier classes? What’s the meaning of using heavy armor if it’s not that heavy?

Change downed state

Honestly I like the downed state, the thing I don’t like are about it are the player abusing stability/stealth/quickness to finish downed players.
While performing the “finishing move” the player should not be influenced by stability/stealth/quickness. If not possible it should simply works like that: if a player starts a finishing move he/she istantly re-appear if stealthed and automatically being immune to quickness/stability boons while channeling the finishing move.

I understand that the game is NOT balanced around 1v1 but having classes specialized in a invisible/inamovible/half second cast finishing move is totally BS.

Since the February patch everyone willing to do Guild Mission and not being part of a very large guild is trying to achieve alot of influence for his guild.
Based on my experience I know two ways to aquire influence: doing things in the game (logging in, events, winning tournaments etc) and purchasing it with ingame coins.

What I think here is that alot of players now have a huge amount of karma with nothing to purchase with it; why not allowing players to purchase guild promotions with karma?
Something like 40~50k for 1000 influence sounds reasonable

Minimum specifications for running a game are exactly that: what you need to run the game at the minimum quality settings.

Then, please, explain me why I get the same amount of fps (15-35) with nearly everything at max while tuning the settings all the way to ultra-low doesn’t even change a thing.
The only thing able to change the fps value are the shadows, a setting I don’t really care for because I am satisfied with medium.

Having to wait to start a voice acted dialogue because the game needs to load a high definition model 1km away from my position is absurd.
Having to wait to do anything in Lion’s Arch because it needs to load my character AFTER loading the map is ridicolous.
Having to stare a very low fps situation in WvWvW because of the bad particle management with ZERO differences with ultra-low and ultra-high is beyond my comprehension.

I do appreciate Anet’s hard work but sometimes it is mature to admit that “not” telling everything or just being no true on claiming the minimum requirements is a bad thing.
Anyway, since the first BWE I had a fair fps boost after launch (from 10-25 to 15-45 depending on the situation); I know what optimization is and I now there is always space for improvements and for that I have faith on Anet.

I do surpass minimum requirements by a fair amount and since setting everything to low or to max does not change a thing I generally prefer to set everything to max.
And, please, don’t tell me that I have to run a defragmentation.

What GPU do you have o.O? I can’t run that game at max…

I can max out GW2 though, but FPS can drop to 30 and 15 in rare cases. Also, GW2 is pretty CPU intensive. So at a point, your graphic card stops helping you. This is especially noticeable when you stick a really nice graphic card into a i3 system vs an i5 or i7.

It seems impossible but with a Radeon HD4870 I am able to max out Far Cry 3 (If I remember correctly I only removed motion blur, a filter I personally hate in every game).
Sadly I know that my CPU is what hinders the game to run smoothly (along with Arma 2 with online mission mods like Wasteland)

Of course, weaker PCs will be at a disadvantage. It’s like trying to play Far Cry 3 on a 2007 graphics card. If this ends up being the case, then “too bad so sad, get a better PC”.

Funny because with an early 2008 video card I can run Far Cry 3 at maximum but not this game; the real fun thing is that I get the same fps either at the lowest and maximum settings.
I understand that there are differences between the engines and everything but your analogy simply does not works well.

It seems to me that most people still fast travel to LA instead of using the cheapo option of traveling to the heart of the mists and using the portal for free. They’d save more by taking that extra 20 seconds once per day than they would by not undercutting 1c on every single transaction they make in a day.

I agree but don’t forget that not everyone is equipped with a very powerful machine, loading the mists and then LA might takes a lot of time for those with a low-mid machine.
Considering that a lot of players prefer to play insteand of watching a very long loading screen twice you should just think that a good part of those players are not throwing away their money because they value their gameplay time and the 2-4s cost is acceptable for them.

Please explain how on earth losing ~20% of income is “not losing anything”? (this explanation will be interesting… especially since it means you complaining about a 5% “tip” must be less than nothing)

They are not losing a single cent in the transaction: the final consumer (us) is covering the 20% VAT cost here in Europe; plus, to round the price they added a “tip” of 50 cents from nowhere.
I still don’t understand why we, european players, must pay more for the same amount of gems.

I can understand the 20% VAT that MUST be charged (everywhere in europe is the consumer that is charged of the tax cost, there should be a 50/50 split cost between seller and consumer if we talk of fair prices but I’m not starting this discussion, this is not the place), BUT I cannot understand the 50 cents overpricing.

ArenaNet should lower the cost in Euro, raise the gems aquired by the value of 50 cents OR use the same method utilized by other companies allowed to charge in USD instead of local currency.

If they believed 20% lower prices would maximize profits, they would have set the price there. Clearly Anet believes the current prices are the best prices, otherwise they would have set different ones.

We are not concerned about VAT costs but about an arbitrary raising on the overall price.
Remember that “just rounding the price for some reason” is not valid because in UK players have to pay a not rounded amount.

Also, remember that in europe the whole game costs 54,99€ and in US it costs 59,99$ so we are not talking about “rounding prices and/or inability to set a price” but about ARBITRARY OVERPRICING.

It would be very unwise for them to just say “Sure, we’ll pay the taxes!” In your eyes, they’re not losing anything. But, your eyes are wrong.

But they ARE NOT losing anything.
We do pay the gems value, taxes and even a tip (the 50 cents).

Like other businesses do, ANet could just credit 880 gems for 10€ instead of 800 and change the amount from time to time on the basis of the current EUR/USD exchange rate and their other hidden costs.

I totally agree.

and that additional 5% cost is built in to protect against inflation.

Interesting, and how are we supposed to protect ourselves from inflation, considering that Anet only is protecting itself I still call it arbitrary.

About the pricing conversion you mentioned: the conversion difference EURO-USD was even larger on 28th August 2012 (1$ = ~0,79€) than today (1$ = ~0.73€) so the idea of Anet setting a precise price of exactly 10€ is totally arbitrary.
A fair margin for the customer can be of 1 to 5 cents at maximum, not 50.

The margin is 5 cents per dollar. Why is that a problem?

The exact conversion is nearly 9,5€ (VAT included) for the gem pack so the margin is 50 cents, not 5.

Again, I am not arguing about the cents but about the concept: there is no reason to charge more for the same amount of goods (gems in this case), especially if we talk about virtual currency.

And if the exchange swings the other way and 10 euro is less than USD10 + VAT? Do you want them to raise the price or just keep it the same? When pricing was set, it was approximately equal. Remember that there’s a cost to Anet in converting currency as well (assuming they want to eventually convert that money to USD). Since Anet’s adjusting prices continuously, they’re not going to charge something like 9.53 euro. They’re going to charge a nice round number because people prefer them.

I don’t want US players to pay more just because european players pay more than them but I’d like a fair exchange based on overall values.

About the exchange costs: with all the respects to Anet we, players, won’t care less about how Anet will use our money; if they want to invest them in the market, pay european workers salary or exchange them in USD with a fee is not of our concern. You should not make assumptions on how will Anet use game’s revenues.

I am not suggesting that Anet must change prices every week or month but AT LEAST keep them at a fair amount and actually rounding the price with a net revenue of 50 eurocents is just too much.
To everyone using the “round prices of 10 of everything are for better convenience”: I have to remember them that the cost in UK Pounds is 8,85/8.85 so, this argument is invalid.

Interesting, by reading the responses there is a common idea of a low profile scam surrounding european pricing (they talk about 80 eurocents and now is 50 eurocents but it’s the same thing).
If they are charging with an included VAT then the price (atm) should be 9,5 euro and not 10.

Don’t take me wrong but I want to understand why should we pay more for gems.

That’s true of most things. Sellers of goods will increase the price of their goods to offset taxation costs.

Anet is already covering the mentioned tax with a +20% on the gem cost but is also raising the overall price with no reasons.

Ok, I tried to advance in the process of purchasing gems with EURO currency and the window clearly states that the taxes are of 0.00 EURO.
In my opinion there is nothing indicating that virtual currency is affected by VAT and Arenanet is simply overpricing non-USD transactions.
I really feel a bit scammed, not about a small amount of bucks but because we european players are discriminated.

I am not able to purchase in USD because it requires to imput a valid US billing address (and that is reasonable).

My point was that people get angry that they’re paying a lot more than the currency conversion alone would justify, whereas in fact when the VAT is taken into account, the difference is much smaller.

If ANet continually adjusted the Gem prices based on the current exchange rate to get an exact dollar to Euro match, then it would be an accounting nightmare.

I agree with you but it should be advertised while purchasing gems in any currency except for USD.
My answer still remains: if I purchase in USD using my PayPal account will the gems be avaiable for me, playing in Europe?
And, I should add: If the answer is “yes” will the system notice that I’m from Europe and it’ll add the VAT exchange by itself raising the price to 12 USD (notice that even in this situation EU players will have to pay more for the same gem amount in comparison to US players)?

EDIT: I checked actual currency exchange and it seems that purchasing in pounds is cheaper than purchasing in euro (8.50£ is 9.89€ actually) so, purchasing in euro is always a loss at the moment considering that 10$ are 7,5€.

I was going to buy the 800 gems pack when I noticed that inserting any european country changed the price from 10$ to 10€.
How’s that possible? Why does North American players pay less for the same amount of gems? I am sure Arenanet is aware of currency change.

I do play from Europe and I really think that this isn’t fair towards european players.
What will happen if I play in Europe (in a european server) and do pay in dollars?

This issue never happened before the said patch.
I generally launch the game with Steam and noticed that it happens ONLY when launching (and closing) the game using Steam and never while launching from the exe itself.

The only thing I changed after the patch is the compatibility mode (from standard Win7 to WinXP SP3 because of a launcher problem we discussed a while ago).

Any idea/suggestion that doesn’t involve removing the game from Steam?
