Debuffs, CC’s, aoe heals, aoe cleanses, tanky, disruptive. I love playing engi.

Was in WvW on my tanky boon busting build the other night when JQ had 16 arrow carts set up in SMC lords room. They were doing so much insane damage that our zerg couldn’t even get in. But Milky did! With a double dodge roll and a gear shield, I made it past all the damage, got to the arrow carts, and started knocking people off them with Big Ol Bomb, shield, magnet, throw mine, etc. Those who don’t know me were laughing when they saw me charge in by myself, and were amazed that I was still alive in there solo for a good 30 seconds. Maybe some of them will roll an engi now

This let my zerg enter SMC and destroy the rest of the carts, eventually leading to our capture of the castle. All because of 1 little asura engi.

That’s an offensive support / disrupt tank build.

Could you share that build please? sounds awesome.

As the topic name suggests, I’m looking at either set for some healing power for sustain.

It will purely for use in WvW (all aspects – roaming, small group, zerg)

Since there are some changes to conditions due how do you think the meta will change?

has anyone had any success with either of these setups?

Would rather get the community input here before I shell out some more gold

Maybe don’t play engineer?

You don’t like kits or destroying turrets which are both core mechanics of the class and want to play using only one set of gear?

I’m thinking you might be better off playing ranger. AFAIK the spirit summons work in a similar way to turrets in that they provide benefits to area’s by providing buffs without having to blow them up. Plus healing spring is a water field healing area on a single press so you can feel happy that you’ve only pushed one button as Anet intended it to be used.

Making a build based mainly from turrets is going to be very frustrating to play outside of sPvP. Taking in to account that a lot of your stats are watered down from quantity rather than quality means that you will also be cutting out a lot of versatility from the class by tying yourself to one spot and doing low damage/healing.

Personally I haven’t tried this so might be completely wrong but I don’t really see how it would be fun or viable to play.

I have a mesmer, guardian, warrior and engineer at 80 and I always end up back on the engi. It’s so fun to play.

Plus as someone mentioned the build diversity is awesome, I find that I never have enough gold to keep up with the new gear I want to buy to try new stuff.

I’m pretty much purely WvW and still find it the most rewarding to play with skills to fit almost any situation.

I crafted mine to 80 so can’t comment on the leveling experience though.

Personally think it should be modified dependent on the weapon you’re holding.

Otherwise it trivialises the fact that people spent time and money crafting their weapons and we just get it at a button press.

They are not asking Anet or you to help them play better, they are asking Anet to fix a problem that is broken so they can play the game as it was intended to be played.

Then they should choose different video as an evidence.

I’m not missing the overall point of original message and I’m not attacking it in any way. I told several times here that I agree with it.

It shows the FPS and skill lag quite clearly, It clearly shows the effects of zerging and server/design issues.

I’m not quite sure what this video is missing to be more suitable.

Yaro, I think you are missing the point massively here.

What you are essentially doing is critiquing VOTF’s WvW play style from the video that was posted.

That isn’t the issue. If they got wiped/killed from superior tactics then that is just a question of strategy and timing on their part which is within player control.

What is outside if their control is that fact that when they engage with an enemy, the game lags in both graphics (bad design) and skill usage (bad servers). You can have all the skill and coordination in the world, if you are unable to put that in to practice because the game is broken (yes broken, it doesn’t behave as it is supposed to) then what is the point of being organised at all?

They are not asking Anet or you to help them play better, they are asking Anet to fix a problem that is broken so they can play the game as it was intended to be played.

If your car was broken would you take it to get it repaired? or by your logic would you leave it to rot while you take the bus indefinitely and call it “adapting”?

You have the right ideas of how a respectable commander is, yet you generalize commanders. Have you honestly tried to compromise with a commander to help each other get what everyone wants? The problem is that no one seems to respect anyone.

You are right, I am generalising, which I shouldn’t do. Although it is a significant enough amount that they tend to stick in your mind with a fair level of frequency.

There are some commanders that are an absolute joy to play with, and they can get the best out of the players and have everyone dancing to their tune and fun is had by all.

But you’ve hit the nail right on the head as i’ve underlined above. As is most often true in any type of PvP or the internet in general for that matter.

My point is though that if you’re going to make yourself the center of play for a decent amount of unknown players then you ought to cater for that fact when you try to get results out of them.

There’s this expectation that everyone there has hundreds of hours of WvW experience behind them and or understands the huge amount of abbreviations or slang words that players often make.

Idk if i should feel bad for the commander having such an incompetant group or feel bad for you being victimized by a commander.

I suppose it’s not really a question of incompetence or victimisation, rather having unreal expectations when dealing with random players.

You can pretty much rely on people always taking the route which has higher rewards for little effort be it zerging, capping the sentry post while the zerg moves on or chasing down a lone player.

A lot of the randoms don’t share the commanders priority for tactics or strategy, they just want some fun and maybe some loot. Most of the hardcore players will be in WvW focused guilds or guild groups.

The expectation that all the casual randoms are going to share your zeal for charging huge enemy numbers just because the commander is swearing at them constantly is un-realistic.

I do find it pretty ridiculous that commanders always expect to run PUG groups like their WvW guild.

Talk to people like crap, rage about things that were obviously going to happen (10 people chase after 1 enemy)

You’d think after it happened 20 times, it’s easier to let them have 10 seconds to down that thief they managed to un-stealth rather than rant about it constantly.

Also the amount of times a commander demands people stack on them and then run their 10 man pug in to the 50 man enemy zerg without any tactic bar “push” then whine and rage after the inevitable wipe and complain that no one listens lol.

also as an amusing aside – I love how there’s always a commander’s “sidekick” It always seems to be the same person. You can spot them from the following phrases;

“Stack on commander plz guys”
“Listen to commander!!!!!!”
and in the middle of running with 20+ people running behind them will randomly say in /s FOLLOW PLEASE like the large train of players was there by chance.

Less Siege, Not More!

You are reading the topic wrong.

Anet solution to zergs according to what they wrote is siege but not all confilct in WvW happen at objectives. Many fights happen in the open, and to counter those the solution is not “hey lets stop and build some siege” especially since the map itself is mostly open so even if you try to make a defendable place with siege to counter that zerg you will just be run over since there is always ways around most of the terrain. ie not defendable.

Also open field combat is fun and if there are people that like that exclusively (which there are a lot) why not make it better for then and the rest of us to combat zergs? I think that is a reasonable request and will make the game better.

Also the roaming guilds help the objective based game because they take the pressure of the other people defending the objectives by reducing the threat of an enemy zerg.
So they are in fact playing the right game.

Summary of your post:

You’re from Gandara and like to run around killing where there aren’t any objectives or any tangible results from fighting open field besides badges loot bags.

You haven’t found a way of defending siege equipment in the open field.

If you that’s what you like to do, fair enough but that isn’t what WvW is intended for.

I’m not sure that I understand the points being made here as they seem generally short sighted.

From what I read so far this is what this thread is about.

WvW is more fun if you don’t use siege (according to some random WvW guild in gandara)

as a result of random guild from Gandara not liking siege, Anet is supposed to almost totally re-work the type of warfare to not incorporate any new types of siege designs and modify the existing siege because “it hurts too much”

So essentially, Gandara would prefer to run around in clever circles against another group doing the same and call it “creative”.

Correct me if I’m wrong but WvW is an objective based warfare map. So the focus is to capture and hold structures in order to win points for your server.

As far as I’m aware, Anet means for WvW to be open for everyone. Meaning that low levels and casual / entry level players can turn up and feel that they contribute to the points that their server generate by capturing and holding objectives.

Now while running around in the middle of a field trying to kill players in a new and “creative way” plays a part in WvW, it is only a part of what is supposed to have to ensure a win for your server.

What’s wrong with someone killing people with an arrow cart? That’s its job. Come up with a creative way of not dying or taking it out. Not all players spend hours and hours a day playing WvW so they are going to get rolled without a viable way to fight back.

Also I don’t get the whole “nerf arrow carts” thing either, “zergs are bad, we hate zergs, find us a way to get away from zerg play”

Anet give high damage siege equipment which pretty effectively smashes up a zerg and then it’s “those arrow cars are killing our zergs!!!”

Perhaps you’re playing the wrong game if you just want to run around doing nothing but killing enemy guilds.

Hello!

As the topic name suggests, I’m currently in Tier 1 and losing the will to live from getting constantly mobbed by Viz whilst trying to WvW.

I’m very interested in transferring to a more balanced WvW server.

I don’t really care about winning/losing or coverage or any of that. I just want a fair environment where my actions might have a contribution or where playing well can actually make a difference without the threat of ridiculous overwhelming numbers/ imbalances.

I’ve asked around a couple of servers and currently interested in Far Shiverpeaks.

Any input on a good server would be very welcome

In regards to the min/max, I do understand that my gear selection not really optimal for any specific task but i’m a “keep my options open” kind of guy so I chose according to the stats to be honest to get a balance.

Hi all.

Recently dinged 80 on my guardian as my first toon.

I’ve put this build together as something to work towards. I wonder if you guys could take a look at it and see how viable you think it would be please?

Focus is mainly WvW with a smattering of PvE dungeons and maybe some low fractals.

The idea of the build is survival / damage on the front lines with some emphasis on boon duration with AH included to keep heals topped up as well as regen etc.

Might stacking from crits will add power in addition to stacking on allies to give relatively constant small heals from AH.

I want to run with shouts as way of group supporting in addition to selfishly keep myself up and about during a zerg again from AH.

Please feel free to critique or suggest alternatives to anything all feedback is appreciated
