i’ll put it in simple language for those who can’t understand simple concepts and like to generalise.

new purchaser: £35 for HoT + base game

recent purchaser: £35 for HoT + nothing + regret because of no prior announcement (once again, i’m sorry to my friends who i persuaded to get the game in recent weeks after HoT was announced but before it was available)

“veteran” (whatever that means for you): £35 for HoT + nothing. oh, you wants character slot? £60 plis

just from a consumerist, value-for-money point of view, some people are getting less for £35. and that makes some people feel that some injustice is going on, and that’s why they complain. true, some will still buy the expansion regardless, but if nobody makes a stand against poor business practice (and against inequality in general), gamerkind (and humankind in general) is doomed.

dear anet

you’re announcing a lot of new guild features for when HoT is released, and you’re clearly assuming that every player will pick up HoT. what happens if not every member of a guild buys HoT? i’m assuming that they’ll not get any benefit from the new features like the guild boost slot or guild hall, or be able to earn the new guild currencies (seriously anet, yet more currencies? you already have a gazillion, guess another 3 won’t matter -_-).

the reason i ask is: i’ve recently convinced some friends who’ve played other MMOs with me previously to get on gw2, since there’s an expansion coming up, loads on content, etc. etc. and we’ve made a guild together. then you lot announce the kittenest pre-purchase of an expansion ever (so i’ve been apologising that i’ve made them spend money early on something they could have gotten free with the expansion).

some of them are students who don’t have a lot of money to spend, and they’re not going to buy HoT at this price. others are quite impressed with the game and will consider buying it. i just feel betrayed (like a lot of old players), as you’ll clearly gather from some posts on the forum and elsewhere on the internet, and i would rather pick up another game (go homeworld remastered omgonly£10onsalelololol) than spend on HoT.

so, how will anet handle guilds being split across the gw2-HoT chasm?

btw, searching for “guild” on the forum is a bit pointless, since every mention of “guild wars” will also come up -_-

seems to me that the guard traits have weird new synergies that don’t make that much sense. hurts my brain to think but maybe i’ll try a hammer/sword+torch burning build that needs purging flames for condi cleanse since i can’t trait absolute resolution with glacial heart -_-

why is shattered aegis a grandmaster trait? unless it does a few k damage.. -__-

and re feel my wrath, i’m actually dreading it a bit. it looks nice on paper, but it might break wvw a bit since everyone will want a few hundred guards with that equipped -____-

I’m assuming you’re EU, not NA.

SFR (Seafarer’s Rest) has both WvW- and PvE-orientated guilds. I don’t PvP much so I can’t say much about that but I have seen PvP guilds recruiting on SFR.

There’s a group of hardcore WvWers on SFR who are really good commanders and players. Most of our numbers are made up of casuals though. Altogether, we have good coverage throughout the week and at most times of the day. Queues to get on WvW maps are only a problem while tournaments are on. Queues are non-existent or quite short otherwise, but they might be slightly longer during primetime (around 5-9pm) and on reset Fridays. If you’re new, joining our server Teamspeak is recommended so you learn WvW tactics quicker and can make a better contribution to the fights etc.

We also have some pretty big PvE guilds that regularly run missions and world events. However, with the megaserver “technology” complicating matters, which server you join doesn’t matter so much for PvE nowadays.

you need to find YOUR build to suit YOUR playstyle.

i’ve been through all the different builds, weapons and gear (even burning spirit weapons when the game was young lol, altruistic healing, shouts, empowering might, mace + torch, hammer, staff, knights, clerics, soldiers, celestial – you name it, i’ve probably tried it), and i’ve finally settled on a meditations guard wearing a mostly zerker + random bits set, traveller runes, using 0/6/6/1/1 traits with sw/f and gs.

after nearly 2 years.

it’s a crap build which i arrived at after a few months of testing, but it works fine for how i play. i even join zergs by swapping out my sword + focus for a staff or hammer (perma-blind with F1, 25 might stacks with shelter ftw) and survive to make lots of bags.

you should probably go for something surviveable first till you get a hang of the profession. some good suggestions above, but i’d go for a shouts build (both for utility and some damage), knight set with 0/x/6/6/1+x traits and one of every weapon (because guards are very.. “situational”).

in terms of when to pop F1-3, i use:
F1 when i need a blind (because of my traits)
F2 + F3 when i’m about to die (or if i accidentally activate renewed focus :p)

How to Reward Scouting

best reward for scouting: keeping your waypointed keep up all night and getting loot bags while defending with a good commander

2nd best reward for scouting: seeing an enemy zerg melt when they get ambushed from behind while they are busy trying to ram the gate (and still getting bags because you tagged everyone with your arrow cart)

or do what i do and “actively” scout. there are always roamers to kill, dolyaks to speed up and camps to take back. with enough experience and map awareness, scouts can actually leave whatever it is they’re guarding and do other things nearby so it doesn’t get boring.

i find scouting for short periods pretty rewarding in itself (especially if you have a bunch of friendly scouts to chat and take turns with), so i don’t feel the need for an in-game mechanic to reward scouting.

some commanders on my server do offer to pay scouts for their efforts upgrading and sieging stuff up, but that’s up to the individuals involved.

i normally ignore unproductive posts like this, but it made me wonder: what will happen to build diversity if we have to build to survive whatever meta is prevalent? oh wait.. there was no diversity to begin with.

we always just went with metas and either pwned or died trying. and then the next meta comes along and we either jump on the bandwagon or die trying, etc. etc.

sure, you can still make your own build and play how you like, but you’re never going to be optimal. i still remember when gw2 was young and i ran around with spirit weapons.. sigh.. those were the days..

in other words, build diversity in mmos is a myth. hence we either adapt to the situation or die trying. the problem for me is, some classes just cannot do certain things no matter how hard we try.

i main guardian, and a condiguard is just gonna be a joke. sure, i can be a good cleanser in small groups or zergs, but then i won’t be able to do what i like: running around in traveler runes (only because we have no passive movement speed skills/traits) and actively scouting while denying supply and ganking.

sorry for being out of topic but i think there is some relevance to this debate about condis. you either try and adapt to the meta and choose your fights, or be forever frustrated because, unless there is a massive, in-depth revamp of runes, sigils, condition triggers and stacks (redesigning everything, basically), that is how the game is going to be.

You could perhaps trade some of your awesome burst power for condition counter.
Have you at any time considered that your kind of invincible power burst guardian might be a part of the reason of why roaming has shifted towards condition bunkers? Do you think the players you stomped so easily should have kept playing power based burst builds so they could keep on breaking their teeth on your blind&block guardian? Do you think it is reasonable to expect them to not adapt their builds so that you could have kept playing yours with the same success rate?

oh dear, it turns out that i’m the sole cause for this condi roaming meta! i guess the only way to fix this is to ban me since i broke the game single-handedly! /sarcasm

look. in all my time roaming, i’ve yet to see another guard playing my build. in fact, i’ve yet to see another guard that roams solo on a consistent basis. maybe that’s not the case on the other tiers, but you can’t point fingers at my “kind of invincible power burst guardian” and say i caused the condi roaming meta. (i think a large part of my success is because people who don’t pvp, often panic when all the flashy blue guardian fireworks start. that or people get overconfident and leap in expecting a solo guard to be an easy kill)

also remember that with the ferocity change, power burst builds have lost some dps and it takes noticeably longer to down enemies, which might be enough to either walk away with a sliver of health or get defeated.

and i’m by no means invincible. i have lost to other players with power builds because they were better at avoiding my attacks or have a class that kites well (i die ridiculously quickly to power shatter mesmers because all my attacks cleave or are melee aoe). remember, i have only 16k hp max with all my buffs on, so i can’t just sit back and wait for people to make mistakes. and i sacrifice practically all my sustain with my build so i almost never survive a 2v1 or 3v1 situation, whereas i see really good solo condi bunker mesmers wipe groups of 3.

a lot of my weapon and utility skills are centred around condi-clearing, believe it or not. of the meditations i use, two clear condis (smite condition and contemplation of purity), and greatsword skill 4 gives a light field which i can then combo with skills 5 and 2 for whirl finishers to cleanse. even then, condis are re-applied the moment i cleanse them, and i’ve had fights where up to 6 different conditions were placed on me by one opponent in a second or two. all while i’m trying to catch up so i can land a hit.

so, yes, while you’ve actually brought up a pertinent point (that the current condi meta might have been a response to the power burst roaming meta a while ago), i think it’s unfair to pin all the blame on my build.

p.s. as a side point, you have to realise that my kind of build can’t survive in zerg fights without some modifications, but the condi builds that you see nowadays can easily do that. on top of that, on the occasions i join zerg fights, the experienced commanders on my server are actually using minus condi duration foods instead of omnomberry compotes or healing tick foods. says something, i think.

i think that in the end, the reason there is a perceived imbalance is the stat combos that are available/used, and the strengths and limitations of certain classes.

condi builds have the option to really tank up and still kill people quite easily by kiting while the conditions do their job. power builds have to sacrifice either damage or toughness/vitality as someone mentioned above; you either go glass cannon or be a tank that tickles people to death (your tickling will probably get outhealed anyway).

when you couple this with classes that have lots of damage mitigation that work well in a pvp situation, it makes certain builds seem imbalanced. for example, mesmers can just clone/phantasm/stealth/teleport away and kite till the opponent is dead. thieves can run forever and ever, in or out of stealth, and take their time being annoying while their condis work. necros have aoe condis and have a very high hp pool, which makes melee classes suffer against them.

me playing a bursty solo roaming sw/f + gs guardian (who in their right mind would do that? melee with 13k hp without buffs ftw) is fun but also really frustrating. other glass cannons have absolutely no chance because i just block/blind all their damage and burst them back, but the moment i see a good mesmer or necro, i need to run because i know i’ll very likely lose. and a condi build is not an option for guards, so i’m shoehorned into either zerging or being a power-based roamer.

as per title. i’m left with a whole bunch of sigils of fire and battle which i can’t sell or give away (i’m swapping them for sigils of strength till anet decide to nerf them) after using some upgrade extractors for infusions. the upgrade extractor should have a warning in the description that upgrades will become account-bound after extracting.

i’m reporting what happened after the patch. i’m not complaining about before the patch. i get some dailies done, don’t get the laurel, and when i relog, i’ve got 0 dailies again. even all the progress bars are empty.

edit: just tried relogging again. it seems to remember my progress now. got 30 mins to finish my daily again -_-

yeah, i realised after i posted the topic; people would just start _camp_ing. it would be interesting to be able score off “supplies gathered” as well as kills without encouraging zergs and karma trains, but i don’t have an elegant solution to the current system otherwise.

scaling is gonna be hard to implement also. servers with vastly differing coverage will mess the scaling up. do you scale for the 100 players from server X, or the 5 from server Y? or do you average the two and say there are 52.5 players? why should server A, which might have players from asia, oceania, europe and the americas, score less when, for example, french server B is underpopulated at night in europe?

search not working, sorry if suggested before. instead of the current points-per-tick, i suggest that the score be determined by:

1) the amount of supply that successfully reaches held towers and keeps – encourages holding onto and upgrading objectives, defending dollies, might encourage many small groups instead of one big blob

2) player kills NOT dependent on borderlands bloodlust – like, come on, the bloodlust gives you buffs to your stats AND points for killing others without those buffs? why not just award points for any player kill, but leave the buffs as a bonus for holding ruins?

might be controversial, but i feel it might be worth thinking about, and that’s what the forums are for, right?

edit: just thought about blobs camping supply camps, forget i said anything :p but point 2 is perhaps valid

i wish people would read the patch notes at least and try to know what they’re talking about. copy-pasta from patch notes:

  • Coordinate to stop three miasma deployments simultaneously to earn the Triple Threat achievement, which awards 10 Spinal Shards and bonus loot.
  • Rescue enough citizens and work together with the entire map to earn five tiers of rewards.
  • As players surpass each tier, contributors are rewarded Spinal Shards, Refugee’s Belongings, and Found Heirlooms.
  • Tiers are set at 100, 300, 600, 1000, and 1500 citizens rescued.
  • Those who remain until the miasma reaches lethality, participants will be rewarded with daily Dragonite Ore, champion bags, Blade Shards, and masterwork items.
  • For players who attain the highest tier, there’s a chance for ascended materials and rewards from previous Living World releases.

so it might initially seem like another zerg fest, but to obtain the highest rewards, people need to coordinate and break into many little groups to do all the objectives. having many little tiers might be too easy.

though i wish it was ascended gear, not just materials.

so. i’ve been maining guard for more than a year now. i know quite a bit about the class and i like playing pretty much everything: pve (dungeons, fractals + open world), wvw, some pvp. i’ve hit a bit of a wall:

guards are very situational, especially when it comes to the dps department. in pve, a 20/25/0/0/25 build with sword/focus + greatsword works well for me, while i use meditations with sceptre/torch + sword/focus in pvp (don’t complain. i like it ), and shouts with staff + hammer in wvw zergs.

now, if you know guard at all, you’ll notice that all of them use different trait trees, and i use every single weapon except mace and shield. my issue is when i go from pve into wvw.

the pve dps build has no surviving power in zergs, the pvp build is great for roaming but is not optimal for zerging, and the zerging build dies to roamers while i’m slowly jogging to join the blob (guards need a speed utility. really. SoS is useless now outside of a zerg. used to be able to keep 99% swiftness uptime solo).

so what i’ve done is make some kitteny radiance/valor/honor mash-up that does nothing well, so i don’t need to spend money retraiting every time i switch game modes, but that obviously doesn’t work.

why must guard be so super-specialised to do just one thing well? should have mained warrior, but i’d probably get bored to death -_-

i already have 8 character slots filled (they’re all unlevelled except for ele and thief [maybe i’m a masochist, i picked all the low hp professions to level to 80 T_T], and totally under-equipped). the only obvious solution to me is to level another guard for pve so i can keep my wvw ranks, but my ascended gear with agony resist is soulbound, and i don’t really fancy spending another few months getting another guard up to 80, skilled up, and fully-equipped.

any suggestions? giving up a game mode is not an answer, neither is asking me to play an AH/boon/support build. i like my big red crit numbers and i don’t like the sound of wet noodles slapping on things.

From personal observation, I get more rares on hitting 200%. If I use a birthday booster, taking it up to 300%, I’d get the occasional exotic on top of more rares. However, I’ve not been recording all my drops, so I couldn’t say what rate they drop at.

Gw2 is actually very CPU-intensive, especially in wvw. I can’t advise you on your budget but it might be worth spending on a decent CPU. Look at the benchmarks and see what performance/cost ratio you agree with. I upgraded to i7 recently from an i5 and it’s made a MASSIVE difference to my frame rate and the settings I can turn up.

But generally speaking, in large blob fights I tend to turn the settings way down anyway for smoother gameplay. I guess it depends on the server you’re on too. Fights of 60 vs 60 = unplayable on max settings.

i’d be interested to see how Anet will manage the match-ups in 1v1v1 or 2v1 games, seeing that Swiss-system tournaments are done in 1v1 games usually.

achievements
i’d be interested also in seeing what the achieves will be like this season. more achieves that encourage zerging and griefing (e.g. take x towers, destroy y bridges, use z supply on siege) or useful wvw things (e.g. proper scouting, escorting dolyaks when supply is low, defending camps)? knowing Anet, they probably will not impress.

rewards and transfers
wvw “tournament” rewards should be just for prestige, like a title or finisher, and nothing else. the moment you give out valuable loot tied in to achievements, the loot and achievement hunters who care for nothing else and have no server pride will start stacking on high-tier servers, servers that are already high-pop and will have queues during the “tournament”.

what then happens is the people who can contribute (experienced wvwers, scouts, commanders, coordinated guilds etc.) can’t enter maps day after day. they get frustrated and either leave gw2 (since all they play is wvw) or move to low-pop servers, which cannot possibly have the coverage and numbers to win matches against top-tier servers anyway.

so, all Anet is doing is filling ncsoft’s pockets (so they can spend it on a wildstar expansion but not a gw2 one) and destabilising high-tier servers while not really helping the low-tier servers, where loyal players might be fighting way harder than bandwagoners. and who gets the reward in the end? the bandwagoners, who spent gems to transfer to a high-pop server, not the skilled, loyal players in the low-pop servers (OMG THIS IS PAY 2 WIN START FORUM THREAD AND QQ ARGLHFLBR£$^&!!$%*).

wvw is unplayable for me since the new patch. massive lag that i never experienced before and there’s a ~10 second delay from when i press my keys till skills activate. i did experience some mild skill lag previously in really big fights (we’re talking 60 vs 60) but now even in small group fights i can’t use any skills. also disconnecting during matches (something i never experienced in the past).

see sauzo’s post too. also, this hardly smacks of p2w to me. you wanna see p2w? pick up any nexon game, where it’s impossible to get good stats (say, the equivalent of exotics or ascended) without spending any money.

1) sprockets are freely tradeable on tp, and nobody has confirmed that watchwork mobs will no longer spawn in tyria if scarlet goes away. hence, sprockets are not gemstore exclusive.

2) it does nothing in pvp, and even in pve, if you’ve amassed billions of sprockets, it doesn’t increase your stats, it only makes a new stat combo available to craft.

3) i’ve yet to see a gathering tool with OMGOVERPOWEREDANETPLEASENERF gathering abilities, so all this talk about setting a precedent is just speculation.

4) if you don’t like it, don’t buy it. it’s your choice. if nobody buys it, NCSOFT might rethink it and stop, or it might make an ecto-gathering tool. who knows? but with the consumerist society we have nowadays, i suspect this item will see good sales.

Sure you could say to your guild to meet up in District 10…but at that point you don’t have enough people to complete the event.

not if that overflow list had the number of players/max number of players displayed on it, like how server lists work in pvp.

the way it works now, you have to guest on another server if yours doesn’t do pve or has a small population. mine’s a very high pop one, so people guest to mine and make large queues and we end up with so many overflows during big events like what is going on now.

since the overflows are “shared” by the servers anyway, why not make it all a bit more transparent and let players pick which one to join?

what’s happened multiple times today: happily partied up with guildies/server mates for wurm and marionette. waypointed to map. ended up in separate overflows. tried to join same overflow: “server is full”. many calls for taxi, pleas on teamspeak, etc. tried to join each other for a few minutes, event starts on overflow, we break up in order to do event. players don’t speak/understand same language, cannot coordinate, events fail. repeat each hour.

sort of defeats the concept of having an open world where people could join and leave as they please.

i’ve had so much fun i’m practically crying tears of frustration. thanks muchly, anet.

what i would like to have happened: happily partied up with guildies/server mates for wurm and marionette. waypointed to map.

1) ideal situation: get onto actual home server. win. rejoice.

2) not-so-ideal situation: home server full. a message pops up: “home server is full. join the overflow?” yes. still with party. win. rejoice.

3) less-ideal-than-not-so-ideal situation: home server full. a message pops up: “home server is full, but more than one overflow. pick from list of overflows?” quick check on teamspeak, server 4. yes. still with party. win. rejoice.

what might have happened in an alternate universe, where things were thought through properly and implemented well:

crusader vimo runs up to you. he’s out of breath, but manages to blurt out, “help us, mighty hero. gasp my vigil comrades are scouting for.. pant information on the energy probes in bloodtide coast. will you help?”

you round up your guild in the magical guild whatsapp and march out to the vigil camp the crusader mentioned. after a few minutes of showing off the latest un-nerfed celestial ascended gear and discussing general strategies, you notice asuran triplets exit their tent, right on the hour.

you speak to one of them and are teleported to what 21st-century gamers call an “instanced zone”. this.. instance.. would normally be limited to your home-world, but happens to connect to other alternate realities some call “the other servers” if there were too many heroes. soon, many other heroes who spoke to the asurans join you, informed by an “instance list”, which some compare to “the server list” in the heart of the mists (i.e. pvp). this list showed them the number of active instances and the number of people already in them, so that intelligent choices could be made.

parties and guilds intact, you prepare for the expedition. after a brief argument, the brave midgets decide to cover more ground by splitting up. you and your coordinated, still-together, still-partied, still-bros guild set off and beat various things up.

after a long and bloody battle, you rejoice as you’ve manage to obtain [21 Great Wurm Egg Batters] and [42 Great Wurm Larva Pulps], a good haul for the effort. you’re looking forward to your [Wurm Meat Pasty]. thanking your still-together, still-partied, still-bros guild, you return to lion’s arch to plan an attack on scarlet’s experiment in lornar’s pass, which would be an enjoyable experience too, unlike what heroes in a certain alternate universe have to endure.

if things don’t change, the price of silk (and other cloth materials) will not drop for a loooonnnnggg time, and will never get anywhere close to the price of mats of the same tier i.e. mithril, thick leather

silk is not gatherable (can only be salvaged or bought off tp); you need 3 silk scraps per bolt (but only 2 mithril ore per ingot), 100 bolts per spool/damask (50 for others)

3 damask per insignia, variable damask per armor piece, 6 armor pieces, and some characters might need more than 1 armor set

and the total numbers: 10800 silk scraps for a set of ascended light armor, 7200 for medium armor (note medium armor only needs 2700 thick leather for a set), 7500 for heavy armor (only 1600 mithril ore per set)

like, seriously, how could you not expect a “discrepancy”?

if you have the gold and the materials ready, crafting is a quick way to level. pretty expensive though, because you lose money.

i already have a lot of mats from my main, so i recently levelled a thief over a few hours:

1 → 20: XP scroll (from “birthday” gifts)
20 → 70: crafting (www.gw2crafts.net for cooking 400, artificer 500, leatherworker 500, weaponsmith 500 with crafting booster [on thursday for artisan wvw buff])
70 → 80: tome of knowledge (from pvp rewards vendor)

deli, the people who QQ and boast here don’t use our forum. the ones who have any sense don’t use this general forum (sigh.. it appears i don’t have sense either)

purifer, i can be really harsh when i have my loyalties questioned, so i apologise. but you have no idea what is going on in our server. we have people constantly complaining on chat and ts, and then ragequitting when we lose fights, which is actually when we need people the most. i am making a plea to SFRers to adjust their attitude to the game. the threat was thrown in at the end because:

1) my long break from the game was because i was kitten ed off with those who were arrogant and boasting everywhere because we won most of our fights, even against VS when the game was relatively new. i came back and the attitude has changed little

2) i cannot stand working so hard in wvw to benefit those who are jerks, even if they are a small number. and you have to realise it is this small number who do the most damage in terms of morale and kitten ing people off

are you satisfied with that answer? i need to sleep. we can continue this tomorrow lol

purifer, please take my comment in context. i was saying we shouldn’t complain about 2v1s when we’re 3rd place, while we do it to other servers ourselves. i never said 2v1s were not an issue. there was a thread suggesting ways to try and fix 2v1s which i contributed to and the mods later removed because some SFRers came and posted out-of-topic stuff. and i wouldn’t have bothered to post here to try and fix my server’s attitude if i didn’t care. your comment about my attachments is irrelevant and unnecessary

please, please.. stop coming to the forums to complain about this “double-teaming” business. i know that we are used to winning because we’ve been above average right from the start (i was pretty active last year before i took a long break), but that doesn’t mean we’re entitled to win without working hard for it

posting random screenies of red and blue players standing next to each other doesn’t prove anything. complaining about 2v1 because we’re 3rd place is just embarrassing because we do it ourselves

we need to work on getting a stable community who are keen on wvw, we need to secure our teamspeak server, we need to choose our fights wisely, we need to not give up when the fight gets tough, we need to stomp [gck] many more times, but most of all i think we need to improve our attitudes and be less arrogant

if we lose, it’s not because we got 2v1ed, but because we’re a long way from being the best server

so please, think before you post. if you hate me for this, that’s fine. but if our server continues acting childish and expecting to win without effort, then i’m afraid i would gladly pay to transfer elsewhere

I’d counter suggest that at minimum, there should be some WvW skirmish maps (aka overflow) *snip

if you look up arenanet’s official channel on youtube, there’re plans for an “edge of the mists”. i guess that makes my suggestion even less likely to happen

hmm, this idea probably wasn’t very well-thought out. as an add-on suggestion (probably suggested elsewhere), make different commander types for pve, wvw and pvp and have them cost gold, badges and glory respectively. or maybe they could make a queue counter and show how many places you have to wait for to get in

have them shout out events like dragons and temples, e.g. “BIG STINKY LIZARD POOS ALL OVER SPLINTERED COAST!” or “LYSSA SCANDAL! UNDEAD PRIESTESS LIVES CORRUPTED LIFESTYLE! NO KARMA GEAR FOR YOU!”

it can be really difficult to get enough people to succeed at these events sometimes and a bit of publicity wouldn’t hurt. psst.. balthazar.. obsidian shards.. i think this is a little better than suggesting a timer counting down till the next event. and it gives the heralds something to do (let’s face it; how many people actually talk to them?)

i guess someone needs to clear up what dungeons and AC explorable are supposed to be. in my mind, dungeons are meant to be completed by at least semi-organised parties. they can be PUGs or statics, but players should at the minimum know their classes and the mechanics specific to that dungeon in order to finish it and claim the reward.

i think AC explorable in its current form should not be adjusted for level 35 players. the tokens at the end are for level 80 exotic loot. because of this, the difficulty should be set for (perhaps new) level 80 parties with greens/rares. tying in with this, explorable mode should be difficult enough to challenge the average level 80 party, full traits and all. newbies with only a handful of traits and incomplete builds should not expect to be able to sail through a dungeon that gives level 80 rewards. they should be encouraged to stick to story mode while leveling and then return to try explorable mode when they are more experienced. sure, give it a go if you want, but don’t qq if you wipe till all your armour is broken after 3 hours of trying.

maybe the level requirements for exp mode should be raised to 60+ (or even higher).

don’t get me wrong, i do loads of dungeons (even fractals) with lowbies, and i take the time to explain the mechanics that i know of, and i fully expect to take longer to finish. it’s just that so many people join dungeon parties expecting an easy time when they’re meant to be relatively more challenging, and when they don’t make it they come on the forums and cry about dungeons being “too hard”, “should be for level 35s”, “should be starter dungeon”, “should be fun”, which just screams of entitlement syndrome, as i call it.

try hero/nightmare/whatever hard mode on some asian MMOs to get some perspective. GW2 dungeons are pretty easy and largely forgiving in comparison, barring the very high level fractals (seriously, the person who thought of mossman should be.. made to suffer. a lot).

having said that, the new graveling CCs are very annoying (but still somewhat doable), even for a guardian with aegis, blocks, vigor, stability and lots of stun-breakers, because when you’re tanking a mob of them, eventually every skill will be in cooldown and you’ll run out of endurance. it might be a good lesson in pacing, but being constantly knocked about isn’t great. i can’t imagine what it’d be like for the classes that lack CC mitigation. they’d either have to stay well back and range or be ressed a lot.

bravo, Anet. with the new missions and reward schemes, you’ve killed off the little guilds of casual players (one of which i’m pretty invested in) in just one patch. good job.

now me and my guildmaster get to watch while the underlings join the big guilds and represent us less and less and eventually, we won’t make enough influence to justify having the guild.

putting everything together, Anet is “weeding out” the casual players and encouraging the gold-sellers and TP-players (ectos = new end-game currency now). let me be blunt: Anet have sold a lot of us a lot of lies, as Isende and obastable have much more gently implied.

what is your next step now, Anet? fix the mess(es) or leave more and more of us feeling cheated? tbh i think the game’s still gonna draw newbies in due to the good bits (that i fell for initially as well), but as i’ve played for a few months now, some big glaring issues e.g. poor decisions like this are starting to have a cumulative effect.

think i’ll cut my losses and start saying goodbye to the guildies. dragonborn’s beckoning.

on a typical run above fractals level 10, i’d get a few rares, and maybe if i’m lucky an exotic or mist essence. maybe even a lodestone from the jade maw. a combination of gear, food and banner buffs gets me to about 55% magic find.

i’ve noticed in the last few days that all i’ve been getting from fractals was blues and greens. maybe a rare or two across 2 characters everyday.

my typical gw2 session is doing fractal runs, then actually leaving LA for a few minutes to get fresh air gathering and events for the daily. then i log off, or if i’m not working the next day i’ll pop onto wvw to help.

i tried a forum search but all i got was random drivel about precursors and dungeons being too hard etc. am i having a run of bad luck RNG or does fractals have DR?
