Of course, we’d have an example if Logan and Rytlock would just profess their love for each other :P
But that would be beastiality then, not homosexuality. or maybe homosexual beastiality?? Eeeek
I wanted to come back and address this one, because it’s been bothering me.
Charr are not animals or beasts, they’re aliens. (Yes, I know it’s technically the humans that are the aliens, but the point still stands.) They are a sentient alien race, just like the Vulcans from Star Trek or any of the other near-human races from Sci-Fi.
You wouldn’t refer to a human/vulcan paring as bestiality, but there’s really not much difference between that and a human/charr pairing. Charr just remind you of animals due to looks, but that’s really judging a book by its cover (so to speak).
Charr, tengu, centaurs… These are all fully sentient races that just happen to have some animal-like features. Aliens from another world might look at humans the same way, if we happen to resemble some creature from their world, but that doesn’t make us just animals.
So, if such a relationship does happen in the game, can we please talk about it fairly, and not call it bestiality? I’d love to see a storyline where a charr/human couple have to deal with old prejudices, without the devs having to scrap the story due to bad press because of the misuse of the term.
You hit the nail straight on the head with that, I’ve been bothered with that sentence and the subsequent discussion relating Charr to bestiality as well.
I mean, seriously? They are a sentient, evolved race, they are for all intent and pourposes people, only not humanoid-like. Would you call Asura-Human pairings (unlikely, but not impossible) bestiality? Or sylvari-human pairings having sex with a tree? :I
Come on. It’s a fictional universe, with fictional sentient races, all with their desires, and such.
Aside from that, I’d say even with females in the warband, sex can be seen as a way of bonding. They might not have the same situation, but it’s the same kind of ‘psychological’ support, especially if you consider a life passed in the constant possibility of harm/death. I’d say Charr wouldn’t have any problems with homosexuality, but they don’t have a concept of ‘long-term relationship’, more along the lines of “I want to get it on, you want to get it on, let’s do eet.”
Perhaps it can tie in with the dragons expanding after two of them died? What if we start to see crystal corruption or something like that.
With the CDI thread being locked, perhaps can we discuss if it’d be a good idea to have such a thing implemented on here?
Honestly, I think it’d be nice. Sure, not all suggestions are good, but having a place where the discussion is kept only at the suggestion/proposals/etc would make for an ‘easy to look at’ place where there wouldn’t be all the other threads around.
For example, the polymock one, or the UI redesign one. I find it a pity to see threads like them being buried down 3:
That’d be quite amazing, yes, having more middle-tier stuff to just keep people occupied while they’re doing the ‘big things’
I do like the idea of new weapons, but let’s remember that any weapon added would mean adding more skills, more balance, etc to the game.
Still…It’d be nice to have them!
Good lord this thing is amazing. I’d love to see it in action. °-°
More than one or two weapon per class, each with their own gameplay. (I’m sorry, but I’ll never get tired of saying this.)
A friendly community.
No loot ninja-ing.
Sure, it’s not a perfect game. Sure, there are things to fix, things they may add, and all. But it’s a wonderful game, and a year after I started playing I’m still in love with it.
@Felahr I’m still hoping we get an answer to this
If we can do that there’s hope for me!
Ohdearohdearohdear all. The. Yes.
But wouldn’t that mess up the JP’s?
Well, I think a dedicated/strictly moderated section would be the ideal for this kind of stuff :O
Well, fractals are supposed to be high-end content that puts to the test the skills throughout the whole game – JP included, I suppose. Not to mention, it does make for some interesting map design and encounter (Or frustrating. I’m looking at you colossus traps and harpies with knockback on the professor mew map.)
@Papelito: Come on, there’s no reason to go with insults here. It is true scouring the forums can be hard, as it was discussed before with all the ‘noise posts’.
But one thing I have to agree to, with Nilke:
Having this process being invisible really doesn’t help, for the simple reason that I, along with all the others trying to post about suggestions/answers, are honestly waiting not even for a full reply, but at least a…let’s say sign? That it’s been brought to the attention of the team.
Of course, talking among us helps fleshing out ideas, helps having feedback on one side or the other, but in the end we’re in your hands, right?
Well, it’s not like it’d be -disconnected- from the content. We do already have some activities like this (see the bell choir, or the jungle adventures) but they’re just confined to the same spaces, or even just temporary. Bringing them to the rest of Tyria would just help making them more appealing to access and use instead of having to go through waypoint/activity starter/perhaps instance/finish activity/get back to whatever you’re doing.
And the idea would be for them to give a sense of ‘game progression’ too, not to mention with the addition of guild halls and all that stuff there’s plenty of possible rewards usable in the…let’s say ‘main content’?
There’s a thread about Polymock, a minigame that was in GW1, that is actually a good example of what I’m talking about here!
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/A-Polymock-Idea/first#post5902598
I can see how some people might not like the idea, but if it can help people being less hurt by the grinding, and keep them in game some more, I think it’d be worth a shot.
Oh, well. But still, that just means that NCsoft now has even less to do with it than it did before since they took publishing in their hands as well.
Didn’t Anet get away from NCsoft some time ago?
That would be amazing :O
Again, this is not to say this must come INSTEAD of spvp/wvw. And the raids don’t look atrocious to me, to be honest.
The profession are the profession, you can call them stale, but honestly every mmo that’s been around for a while has this problem (Even worse in some cases, see the mmo’s with only one weapon per class, THAT’S what I’d call stale) and with the introduction of elite specs, this can be already on the road to be solved. For example, tempest already plays WAY different than core ele.
About the reward system, these activities can actually be a good step towards having more variety and more uses to what we find. Say you go around, kill mobs, instead of the usual stuff you find a card, that you can use in the game, or you find some other collectable/currency for other activities. Suddenly, loot becomes more rewarding, because you’re not just seeing the same skins/sigils/weapons, but something new AND potentially useful in content that can help break the pace and ‘relax’ between the grind for mats or whatever you might need.
And this is why my idea is that yes, we do have already amazing activities, but them being locked in just festivals/main plaza LA/jungle isn’t really viable anymore. If I’m farming ascalon (to make a silly example) I’d like to be able to go to a charr camp and possibly find something to do there, instead of: waypointing to LA, going to the activity starter, possibly open the instance, do the activity, waypoint back to ascalon, resume farming. You see what I mean? You can call it mind-tricking, but it’s actually just giving options, some different kinds of content, something to vary what you’re doing.
I do agree the core game needs some fixing in various parts, but it is also true that we do need some more varied activities. I’ve seen plenty of people going on about how the grinding is awful, how they’ve been burned out on the game due to the direction it took, and so on, and having something different, something to break the pace, I think might be the right direction to at least mitigate the problem a bit.
That sounds like quite the complicated programming to include…I do like the idea, but probably it’ll have to be streamlined (by quite some extent), especially considering the workforce has to be divided between the main game (with obviously the main focus) and the balancing/programming of this system, along with the art team preparing the cards. I think it’s doable, and I think it’d be good to have something like this, but probably not with 100 lvs and such.
Well, we’re still talking about a game, so the cards should have some game mechanics based on them – and even taking into account the inspiration from TB, they would need to make some changes so they don’t get sued. So some balancing/core gameplay would be needed.
I do quite like the idea though, but I would have the tables in various zones, not only in ONE point of ONE area (this is actually one of the points I made in my other post X3).
It might be interesting having certain cards be drops from bosses? Like, shadow behe, and such. Probably a mid-low drop rate, OR, an achievement to get it (possibly not 10k shadow behe killed tho, plz.)
Well, HoT actually kinda gave some ‘answers’ about that. :O
Since the concept of the Mordrem is the same as the Sylvari (the pale tree originally seems to have been a seed of Mordremoth) and Mordremoth clearly asks his minions to ‘kill them or cripple them, and bring their corpses’ so he can use them as ‘blueprints’ for his army. The pale tree probably did the same, only without actually sending people to kill and capture others for new blueprints.
Wait wait wait.
No respawning mobs? Oh yes, that sounds fair. Don’t mind me, just scouring an empty map trying to level my character but ops, someone came here a couple hours ago, now I need to wait what – a day for the respawns?
I’m sorry, but that really doesn’t seem like a fair mechanic to me, especially in a game where there’s not only you, but there’s a lot more people.
And honestly, for the same reason, I don’t see why the henchmen/mercs. Again, it’s an MMO, as such the main focus is the collaboration with other players – which is why they made the loot personal, the ‘autogrouping’ in events (well, not that you’re put in a party, but if you’re in there you get your loot and you get your exp and all that), and stuff like that.
I’m sorry you don’t like the game, but those things really didn’t click with me at all. :I
Hey. Inventory space is a srs bsnss.
I talk from experience T.T
On that note, can there be the possibility to donate stuff directly from your bank? That would help…a lot
Honestly, I kinda like this idea at a first glance, I’ll have to check it better later and give it a proper read.
As for the gemstore stuff, perhaps foils? If we’re talking ‘card-based’ stuff. I didn’t know polymock was a thing in GW1
I actually opened a thread some time ago about a general idea of stuff like this here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/A-suggestion-about-the-open-world/first#post5895410
And yes, this would fit in what I’d consider a nice ‘change of pace’ content.
I think it might have a lot of problems in balancing/designing/etc, it sounds like a LOT of work, tho.
I can understand that, but then it’d be nice to have a way to keep the suggestions orderly somewhere where the discussions can keep going on, and not get lost in a sea of troll-treads etc. :O
Well, I tried that. And it’s currently on page 4 with only a couple of constructive replies :I
I know this might be an old thread, but I addressed a similar issue here, and proposed what might be a possible solution :O
I’m not talking about OP personally, but in general.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/A-suggestion-about-the-open-world/first#post5895410
The rank leveling does sound like an idea too, I do like it. And for certain activities it might be even more suited as a progression style (Like the heres-ehm, fishing, I meant. I still think that is a good idea.) Trans charges and cosmetics, or perhaps just ‘activity specific’ items (which is, you don’t get anything that helps you OUTSIDE of the activity, but inside it) would sound like a good kind of reward.
Chiming in just to say Anet already disclosed that the future expansions will include the previous expansions. So for example, if you don’t have the game/you don’t buy HoT, when DSD (I still hope that’s gonna be the thing) comes out, buying DSD exp will automatically get you core Tyria and HoT.
Or at least, I think I remember that being said.
Ok, I think my question disappeared in the merging.
Will the essence of snowfall and essence of mischief be doable after wintersday too?
Well, in every map the progress needs to be ‘reset’ at a certain time. Or it would be silly to have an event happen ONCE, affect the world, and then no one else can do it ever again. It’s an MMO, as such some player agency on the main overworld needs to be sacrificed in order for -everyone- to be able to experience the content. If nothing would reset you’d have the impact, but no one else would have the fun you had on that map.
Anyway, what about the suggestion that has been made here? I’d like to know more opinions about that.
>Makes storm
>Not an ele with the tempest spec.
So close…yet so far…
Anyway, pretty nice model! But the skin tone MIGHT be slightly off.
To be perfectly honest, I liked the expansion story-wise, and I do understand that in order to achieve a horizontal progression there must be a reason for you to play the content and have rewards tied to it (in this case, the masteries and the hero points for the new specialization). What I’m suggesting doesn’t need to work -against- what GW2 has been, which is a story where the player decisions have some impact (and let’s be honest, they had it, this without spoiling anything) but just something to experience ‘on the side’ along with the main content. I have to admit, I still have faith in anet, even if I’m probably just something akin to the new guy on the block, but the work they did is admirable and still out of what was the standard when the game just went out. And it is true the MMO scene changed in the years after it.
Just one question, what about the two items to make in the mystic forge? Will they be still available once wintersday is over too?
I apologize if this topic has been already been covered somewhere else (If that’s so, feel free to delete this thread and perhaps link me to that, but there’s lots of pages to check through . Not an excuse I know, but still.)
Anyway, with that prefaction, I’d like to talk about the issue of what many people consider as ‘grinding’.
Especially with the addition of Masteries, and the number of XP needed to finish one or another track, the open world content and events might actually feel grindy.
I’ve been playing this game for a year now, and I’m madly in love with it, seriously. I love the aesthetics, I love the events, I love how core Tyria’s quests are made (I do hope we’ll see a return of the renown hearts down the line) but, from what I gathered from other people playing the game too, the content feels grindy, and one of the reasons of this feeling is the lack of ‘pace-breaking’ activities around.
I think I can understand the thought about it: there are activities like this in the game (see the Maguuma Jungle ‘minigames’) and they’re basically just a waypoint away! But that doesn’t really help, because they’re…well, -just- there, as in, they’re locked in those areas, and especially in the maguuma jungle example, half the time they’re down due to the metaevents happening.
Now, you have already plenty of interesting, fun activities – again, the maguuma ones are an example, and the festival activities are a lot of fun as well (The choir bells, just to name one). And I think you can capitalize on that to make the game feel a bit more varied in pacing, with fun rewards helping in keeping the art design team working on in-game acquirable items along with the gemstore items making the itemization feel more balanced, and give players something fun and distracting to do in all the various areas just to break the pace of grinding for events and stuff. Jumping puzzles were a good start, but I do feel we need more.
For example, one thing might be something akin to the choir minigame in all the various major cities, with songs themed along the area, and more than just one instrument (instead of having low/mid/high have lute/harp/bass, for example).
It might come as an heresy, but fishing would be another good way of giving some pace-breaking activity. There’s plenty of rivers and seas in Tyria, after all.
So yes, this kind of stuff, spread across the land so once you leave -THAT- zone, that’s not the only place where you can do that – but it actually becomes another fun thing to do for a collection/reward/etc, that would help making the game feel less grindy and doable closeby where I’m already working for my levels/masteries/etc.
Anyway, this is my suggestion. Thanks for the attention, and I hope I’ll hear some feedback on it! Keep up the great work!
Ok…here for another bug in hearts and minds.
So. Me and a friend are doing this again today, and we went to the final phase, where he sends out minions and everything. We’re doing great. Last wave of minions, I go to open the rift…and it bugs. No more rifts, no more minion, Braham and Canach are just sitting there doing nothing and mordremoth is not beatable. Because he remains in his ‘weakened’ state, but there’s no rift, so there’s no way to stagger him, so there’s no way to finish him.
PLease. Please, please, PLEASE fix this. And I don’t mean “remove the fight/make it easier/etc” just fix the bug T.T The fight is so fun! Thanks and sorry for bearing bad news
P.S. It STILL doesn’t reset properly. Just tried. Break bar was still up.
(edited by jarieleledan.8249)
I have two issues to report, the first one is I pre ordered my HoT expansion and still haven’t received my additional character slot, the other is on my Revanent, under builds, it shows Shield, off hand, and it show the skills, however, whenever I tried to buy a shield, when I hover over one with my mouse, it says, weapon type unusable by this profession. (first of all, isn’t a shield a piece of armor? anyways) Now is this a bug? is it only available upon the elite specialization or am I missing something here? Can you let me know? Thanks.
I don’t know about the char slot, but it depends – did you take your Revenant to 80 and unlocked the Herald elite spec?
The shield is usable only with that being unlocked (if you look at the Specialization tree in the hero panel you’ll see the first talent on the tree is “shield proficiency”) and then you can use a shield. And no, for the mechanics of the game the shield is, in fact, a weapon and not a piece of armor. I hope this was helpful!
Here to report the same issues with the Hearts and Minds fight.
The moveset doesn’t reset with the mote.
Basically, when you get killed in the mordremoth fight, he retains the same phase attacks. For example the ring pull when he summons Rytlock, or even worse when you die at the last phase and he retains the break bar full. I don’t know if the gliding phases are bugged as well, but they might be, they are kinda finnicky.
That being said…I know you’re getting lots of bug reports on such an important occasion, but the whole thing is amazing. I love this expansion, and I love the music, the fights, and everything. Keep up the good work, hope you’ll fix these things soon!
There’s a difference though.
On one side, the events are actually fun and challenging to play, at least for me. And aside from that, you have plenty of activities and possibilities to get the exp you need (For example the new adventures, which yeld xp as well.)
And aside from that, it’s not like you will use those masteries only for the story – they help you throughout ALL of the content. To make a silly example, let’s say you need updraft for a certain story mission. It’s not like when you get updraft you will use it only in that story mission, but you’ll actually use it all over Maguuma, giving you a ton more movement/exploration/combat options.
Masteries will probably be if not required at least strongly recommended for raids as well, exactly due to the options they give in terms of movement and strategy.
And as other users said up there, Anet clearly wants this content to last, and be fun. And in my opinion, they absolutely did it. I love the expansion so far, and I’m happy that both in the new maps and in core tyria I have stuff I’m looking forward to do because “Yes, I need the exp points because I want to start on my legendary/I want to loot automatically/etc etc”. It gives a lot more life to the game.
