Sorry, but Glicko system is written to be a gauge of over all player or team rating. Glicko was not and is not designed to maintain matching between parties. Check out the creators own site and read up on it.
The rating system is purposefly designed to rate the skill with the player constantly changing opponents. However, if the system was used to match up based on rating. Then the result can lead to deadlocks that don’t represent team ratings.
Anets use on the system is wrong.
The system to use is simple
1st +1
2nd 0
3rd -1
compare based on a simple delta change on those numbers and you get a vastly better and more changing results that is a far better representation of server skill. This of course is based on matching up opponents based on standing. Where as glicko is meant to be judged on leagues(ie changing opponents)
Frankly, I have to say, this match is getting poisonous. I’m sick of it. I hope Anet change the way the scoring system works, or at the very least, that one of us (TC or FA) moves either up or down a tier.
I could only imagine the awesomeness of a FAvCDvYB match…
Imagine, unfortunately, is the key word as it requires one of the top seven to collapse. We would be fighting IoJ/CD or Mag/EB. I’d still prefer that over the current match though. TC has to be the least respectable server we’ve fought against and it looks like we’ll be seeing them for a fifth week in a row.
sigh yeah. 5th, 6th…. and on and on. As another pointed out unless one of the top 6 collapses as the current server strengths are. TC will never go up or down. Glicko SUCKS.
As for respect, needs to be earned. However, civility doesn’t and it’s been in short in existence ever since FA came to Tier 3. Seriously, civility should just be given in general as a normal behaviour. It’s too bad it’s the internet.
I just wanted to share a mini rant. It’s not even against any server or behaviour of the server.
I despise the use the Glicko system in this. After having read how the Glicko system works and it’s use for design. The use of Glicko is absurd based on how it’s used.
1. The system rating is meant determine the overall skill level of a player or team
2. The system was designed for 1 on 1 matches(ie 1 player or team vs 1 player or team)
3. The system is designed for an every changing opponents. From high competing to low.
4. It’s not meant used to determine who is matched up against each other.
5. it’s not meant to be used in 3v3 way matches
As an example you have chess players A,B,C,D,E,F.
Let us assume some horrible strange coincidences
A and B are equally skilled, as are CD and EF
under proper use of the Glicko system A should eventually compete against BCDEF and continue to cycle by various means. Tournaments, organized meets…
however let’s user ANet’s usage
AB are paired to match each other as are CD and EF as a first time ever starting of the rankings.
AB point score is so close that the RD(relative delta) regardless of score is going to be 1. Since these two might giants are always going to be the same skill there RD will always be a difference of 1.
As CD and EF skills are lower, but are equal to each. This will result in similar RD’s.
No let’s assume that AB just because of last names were placed in 5th and 6th position to start. Yes these are horrible conicidnence.
The result is that AB will always match up for the next decades will never move up in ranking. Why, because there RD and overall rating is only being modified by repeated matches against the same relatively similar skill opponent.
Ultimately ANets usage of this rating system is flawed
So I think we should get used to seeing each other for the next few years. Let’s learn to be civil
See you on the battle field later
I doubt it, there is no coming back against TC. I predict by the end of the week they will have 1.5x the score of second place.
Come on, all of you can do it. Just get the team going again. Both FA and CD population must be greater than the TC pop. If you muster that guild teamwork that the other fellow so convincingly wrote you guys can practically take the maps and make them your own colours.
You have the numbers together
Portals are awesome and not as effective as a game breaking elements. On Teir3 Portals due little impact on our battle and they are used a lot.
Portal bombs are common and while they have slowed the progress down they do not determine the outcome of anything. Often I find that our enemies and ourselves have been effective to counter portal bombs often enough or at least mitgate the effects
As for bypassing defences. Rarely have we managed to use a portal to get in a keep and on the side have very often driven out mesmers from our recently taken keeps. To orginize a take back of keep takes more than 2 minutes and orginization. If the mes can survive long enough then grats to hiding in the enemy keep for 5+ minutes.
The Glicko system isn’t working. I’m all up for servers to be matched up appropriately to other servers. However, that’s not the entirety of what is happening.
Using to Tier 2 and 3 as an example.
LOJ has lost for 3 weeks in a row.
, TC has won for 3 weeks in a row.
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/7#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/8#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/9#NA
http://mos.millenium.org/matchups/history/10#NA
Now as we know Glick is about a measure of score which intermingles with performance and relates a delta modifier for the ranking value.
The problem is that TC has shown similar match scores as a T2 winner for the 4 weeks. Yet watching the delta modifier a winning server can lose ranking(based on relative performance) and a losing server can gain ranking(based on relative performance). TC and LOJ have been close before and even when a small difference between them was there. The next match up made the gap larger.
The problem with the Glick system is that the performance is not being compared to other Tiers but to the same Tier servers. So it wouldn’t matter if TC became strong enough to take on T2 and LOJ lost a few guilds that they should move T3(I’m not saying that this is what has or should happened but only as an example). The problem is that LOJ is performing well enough in the current Tier.
How is this a problem. If T3 and T2 became all of equal talented servers(hypothetical) the state of the matches will never change. Because performance is only related by the server and not by the Tier.
It’s broken. TC should have had a shot in T2 even if they were to get stomped. Relative performance isn’t working as a model to manage rankings.
Culling and “lagging” special events are two different problems.
The culling issue comes from how 3d objects and textures are stored/removed in memory. This is a very root engine fix and could take a long time to fix as this affects everything displayed. This will require more than a few tweaks. This fix will probably take a few more months.
As for lagging events. This was just a matter of not having enough CPU and hardware division of all the players. Not cramming everyone at one single point in time globally will fix this.
WvW wasn’t meant to feel the same DAoC. THe maps are too small. It’s just the way the game was designed. Keeps are meant to be flipped daily. If you hold onto it longer congratulations.
I’ve been suggesting that a new WvW in addition to the current. One where the maps are much larger and conquest is a long term strategy. If they don’t then they don’t. It’s still a fine game as it is.
You will feel better when you come to expect that WvW is more like Brawl rather than Fallout 3. Quick matches or long term engagement.
@OP
I don’t think your suggestin add anything dynamic. I’m not sure it’s a good idea to add a second set for utility skills. I often found that less is more tactical than more. Making me choose a few abilities defines how I play, and the strengths and weaknesses of my character.
As for the maps… oh hell yeah. I think the different borderlands need there own maps. I also think EB should be 4 times the size.
I understand your point. However I had seen Stormbluff(Tier 1) sitting at the HIGH end of servers for about a week roughly two weeks ago.
My family recently(2 weeks ago) picked up another copy of GW2 for a family member. When he logged in we found that he couldn’t get onto our server Tarnished Coast because it was full. I decided to check every 2 hours for a week. Stormbluff was regularly HIGH not full.
I agree that numbers are important, but using the server population isn’t a good sample to know how much WvW members are part of the server. At the time SB had strong WvW presence even if the server itself wasn’t full.
I’ve had at times thieves trying to hold camps, but they are usually taken out in less than 2 minutes. The game provides excellent method of figuring out NEW tactics to cope with situations.
Saying that however, I’ve always felt that any take over of a point should be based around supperior numbers in the circle rather than ONLY team in the circle.
If there are 5 Team X, and 4 Team Y, then it should still tick towards team X, but very slowly. If there are 2 team X and no Team y. then it ticks cleanly towards team x. It should worl more like a tug of war rather than a conquered meter.
Warrior, Hammer to stun. Swap to hundred blades. Lots of damage.
Mesmer, MOA for 10s…….. damage? nah.
No. MOA doesn’t need to be removed. nor does it break the game. If your staying in combat while MOA then your hurting yoruself. Also keep in mind that’s 1 class that can do this. It’s also the only class that has the lowest output of damage.
Let it go. And please move this to sPvP. I tried it WvW… it’s near worthless.
Here is a suggestion that I think makes more sense.
Commander status should cost Guild Influence, A LOT of guild influence and certain criteria based on WvW participation. Not badges, badges and kills are a bad representation of commanding in WvW. Most commanders I’ve seen tend to command more than kill. When you killing your not calling out orders or discussing(unless of course your on voip). However, even the wvw puggers need to be given instructions and most don’t void.
This has a benefit that it doesn’t cost gold. WvW criteria should be earned influence earned in WvW. So it’s about guild’s taking keeps that earns it. Also guilds that hop servers need to start on getting the influence again.
I’m staying out of any discussion as to what makes effective Commanders. My post only concerns the method to acquire.
@OP
You really didn’t spend much time in the Mesmer forum. I’ve seen Habib make posts in the WvW forum. They aren’t what I would say are frequent, but in the Mesmer forum. The Mesmer forum seems far more like a ghost town in comparison to the WvW. After hunting through the Mesmer forum there are from what I found 2 posts. One that was a transfer from another forum category and another about the Berserker damage nerf.
yeah. this place is more lavish than in comparison. However, I agree with the sentiment. ANet did say they wanted to be a lot closer to the community as that was the foundation of their game. Except there is little coming from the forum personal
I would LOVE to see a video of a Mesmer taking a +10 level Champion solo. Mostly I would love to see the technique used. My illusion usually get smashed in 1 shot before they are of use to either provide distraction or shatter.
I’m only level 55 and I’ve been building up
Duelist, Chaos and illusions as my spec because they fit my character RP design.
I use staff after realizing the buff it offers my wifes warrior with Tactics:10 with the Empowered Trait(+Power per unique boon). So it was fire.dot, burn.dot + vulnerability + boost ally. yeah I thought that was pretty sweet. Purchased extra bounce(required for staff) to faster stack everything. Staff turned out to be pretty bad kitten
I continued to use a GS mostly for second support that the berzerker does a cripple and GS2 for bounce. But I’ve been thinking the torch for the invis to lose agro and it’s aoe on appear
I decides last night to research about the Mesmer in Guild Wars 1. What I discovered was not heartening for anyone who things Mesmer will become viable in PvE; especially solo.
The Mesmer is a pure support class with strong 1vs1 PvP capability. The Memser in GW was never a strong character. Instead there talents applied by buffing and more importantly penalizing the enemy.
Mesmers will never get a damage buff; instead they will continue to recieves nerfs until there vision of damage and support is met. This is the design of the Mesmer and this is in line with what they have been doing with the nerf patches.
The only possibility is to learn to leverage the unique element of there use. This will make the class playable solo, but largly no where near as capable or on par to other classes. Instead they just magnify others. If you build a DPS version of the Mesmer… well they just aren’t suppose to exist.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_playing_as_a_mesmer
There are of course changes between GW1 and 2, but the basic principles on the design of play are the same.
1. There is mention that the bouncing damage increments with each bounce. This was a bug in how the ability works. However abilities like hundred slash are built around this damage per hit increase. So why was it a bug and not just the basic functionality of the attack.
Hundred blades is not a boomarang, bouncing projectile, or piercing skill. Its channeled with each hit giving a similar amount of damage (except for the last hit) to total a large amount of damage. If one person gets hit with it and a second runs into it halfway through the second person doesn’t take more damage than the first (if using identical builds/gear). Now, warrior kill-shot when shot through a crowd would gain damage with each consecutive hit. Thus, you get the videos of 21k damage from a warrior. Rifle warriors didn’t need a nerf, they needed a bug fixed.
This also means that iberserker was suffering from this bug as well. It didn’t get nerfed it got fixed. Just to clarify it could use a buff now that its has been fixed.
That I will concede the point on. Throwing the bouncing blade only takes about 2 seconds for the entire damage. Where as Hundred Blade/rifle fire does require channelling. However in related to the rifle allows the player to move where as hundred blade requires standing still.
Personally playing a Warrior and Mesmer the damage really is on both sides of the spectrum. Mesmer damage is signifigantly lower. I find this requires that combat takes longer. Interestingly though I find my survivability better on my Mesmer in PvE.
Swinging a two hander with a warrior is a serious thing of beauty for damage that easily does a lot more out put than most Mesmer abilities . Ok so the bouncing shouldn’t be scaling, however maybe it would be best for a build up a little more Mesmer damage with some AOE and a little bit of damage buff. While fixing up some of the other abilities.
Illusionary Berserker has not received a direct damage decrease. Instead, is seems that the damage reduction you (and I) are seeing is most likely associated this fix:
“Fixed a bug that caused many piercing, boomerang, and bouncing projectiles (those that hit more than 1 target) to continually increase in damage the more targets they hit.”
We are aware that this particular phantasm is now experiencing a significant drop in damage and are looking at getting it back to a more effective state.
Thanks for keeping the post civil and constructive!

That’s great to hear some some word about the subject. The feeling of being ignored is very frustrating. However I have some follow up questions as do many others. Which I’m sure are not the same as mine.
1. There is mention that the bouncing damage increments with each bounce. This was a bug in how the ability works. However abilities like hundred slash are built around this damage per hit increase. So why was it a bug and not just the basic functionality of the attack.
2. and more importantly. Is there any examination of the LOS and condition requirement of bringing out any illusion. With the odds of failed illusions coming out comes to a similarity of Warriors producing 1/2 the adrenaline or Thieves having only half imitative.
Personally I think players can cope with a straight forward damage nerf, but a mechanic that utterly reduces the capability pool would be similar to mana system being removed while still requiring mana.
Congratulations Sea of Sorrows. From a Tarnished Coast player I know how you feel. When searching around pre-launch and post launch regarding the unnoficial RP servers. I came across a number of alliances that said TC was a carebear server and not worth it. So I know where you come from.
I have the utmost respect for you guys and I wish you the best. I hope your community is as strong as iron and your resolve as steal. A salute to your accomplishment. Overall since you never received the kind of mass migration of a large alliance super respect to all of you have have worked hard for Teir 1.
Mesmers are similar to the to WoW palladin. Paladin’s usually never got buffed for balanced. Instead it was nerf after nerf. Only when expansions came out which brought along massive game play changes did Palladins see anything improved… only to be nerfed weeks later.
Mesmers feel like the new Nerf class. Unfortunatally this as time goes buy leaves only a single viable build for a situation.
Solo PvE single build type
Group PvE support
WvW something else
Little flexibility.
Yeah I think Anet is listening to the vocal minority rather than performance metrics.
oh look.
Elementalist. Please NERF Mesmer…… and Buff me.
Anyways. I agree that the Dolyak reward should be returned. Put some limits on it though. So that we don’t get half the population doing a single escort.
Lets not play the blame game by blaming entire servers for the actions of players they have absolutely no control over. Let the kids camp the JP’s and the rest of us will continue to have fun playing honorably.
Speaking of jp and kids. My kids LOVE the EB JP. They are always dissapointed that it’s not a shutout for a safe run. We ran it a few days ago to get dead end by BEAR in the darkroom. So we did some WvW. However, my son keeps going back again and again. He’s a little trooper.
Otherwise it’s been a tough match. The only reason it seems we are winning is due to population spread. I’ve had a lot of fun.
keep at it everyone
If you really think you play any game where you won’t go vertical you won’t play many games my friend.
Can you please point me to the verticle progression in Street Fighter? I’ve been playing for years and I have never once seen a bonus to my stats no matter how many victories.
Games don’t near verticle stat progression. It needs content that holds attention.
Yeah. We have a friend just get an account for the game. I’m on TC my two other family members on TC. My guild on TC. And my friend can’t join
please get guesting up ASAP. Though he managed Black Gate yesterday afternoon to make his first toon.
My wife has anxiety when she plays PvP… but it’s a wierd thing. Not her having it as wierd, but the circumstances around and when it occurs.
Ok. She HATES PvP. She doesn’t like PvP and for the most part she avoids PvP.
However…….
She has gone into WoW battleground to do a cooking achievement and ended up killing a few enemy with other players.
She has done some PvP to do some of the WoW achievements. Most of the time I do them for her.
She joined a WoW arena team and played a couple of matches. Where we were stomped easily :P
Honestly my wife just doesn’t have the reaction ability to PvP. Constantly moving just isn’t her thing and she only get’s by in GW2 because I am getting her to go Vit/Tou and Power as her prime stats on a warrior. I also ended up turning my character to support so she get’s more buffs.
Personally I think if I could get her into a guild WvW run I think she could handle it. I believe what get’s her is the 1 on 1 where she feels useless. To her she is more of an immersion-ist player. Where she is the character. So when she get’s stomped it breaks her play and she get’s anxiety.
However I managed to get my 7 year old son and my 13 year old daughter into WvW and they have a blast
PS
“This is why hardcore PvP-ers will always be better at any skill related aspect of any game than PvE players, and it is blatantly obvious, especially when I wander into PvE to level alts/what not. It just leaves me to wonder why people even bother playing the game if they don’t care to get better at it? Are people really content with just being “under par?””
I’ll answer this. Why do people watch movies, like to eat good tasting food, read novels, and so on? I personally get where your coming from. I play Street Fighter under the same idea. Get better, but that’s not why everyone plays games. This one I will put on you rather than those you are pointing at. It’s not about competition. It’s about enjoyment and enjoyment can be found in many different ways. For some it’s about getting better for others in an MMO it’s about the story and where the game takes you. All you need to do is keep an open mind that people don’t play just your way. It sounds odd, but it’s true. I’ve seen a number of gamers who just can’t even comprehend that fun or enjoyment can happen in any other form. It’s the same reason that people who play the game for story can’t comprehend the number crunching at Elitist Jerks over WoW.
Fun is where you find it and playing better isn’t the only way to find that fun. I hope that enlightens the mystery a little and answers that question you have. So be patient for those who are in it for different fun and they will be patient with you… not that I know if your the kind that is impatient
(edited by jayderyu.3751)
Well it’s a pity what happened last time. I wonder if this is just more common in the higher tiers. Our(TC) middle Tiers were a lot more classy chat. I’m sure it’s the same for the other two(YB and CD) servers too.
Well I’ve been having fun. Keep up the good fight everyone
Sokina hits the nail pretty hard on the head. It ultimately devalues that 5 man elite skillzors. Those players who decked out and are pretty baddazz at playing.
You have a 5 man elite strike team that are just the bomb. Suddenly boom there is a 15 man army or zerg. Now the 5 man elite can kill the 15 man team in a game like WoW, DAOC, Rift….. because once the enemy is down they stay down.
It’s just that while the 5 man are working on set to 6-10. Set 3 11 to 15 are rezzing. oh guess what. Makes the fights longer even to the point that the 5 man elite won’t win.
But that’s the nature of armies and battle fields. Numbers mean a lot and not the weapons alone. Games like Call of Duty and Halo where one mans wins a war against a planet are really out there. WvW is closer to war than an FPS. Manpower is exactly that POWER.
Don’t pick on the situation too much. Yes it’s unfair and I’m glad the proposition has been turned down. But it’s politics.
So here is a question. When your in last place and your close to last place with another server? your saying it’s dishonourable for two servers losing to team up against the winning server?
So in an example
TC 200k
CD 100k
HoD 50k
It would be wrong for CD and HoD to team up? It would be wrong for an alliance?
This isn’t so much as it was “meant to be” as it is “what you want it to be”.
I din’t agree with them all, but I don’t disagree with them all either. However, the design that should be kept in mind that WvW has some features for larger scale wars, but is limited to well small maps. I don’t mean small as in size, but in the fact that they are small for a war.
Some of your ideas would work a lot better if the battle size was 4 times larger and not defined just as more arena’s. but more designed as conquerable lands. As it is keeps are meant to go down and flip with good strategy or large numbers before it can be defended.
I like WvW the way it is, but I would also prefer a much larger war world.
Or it shouldn’t cost influence when you want the bonuses. How about making some really expensive cost then it’s just permanent bonus for any claimed location.
Also how about this wrench. In the lower tiers it seems guilds don’t feel it’s worth spending. If the a server feels the location is going to flip in 10 minutes many guilds won’t pay the cost.
Guild claiming sounds like it would work for much larger and conquerable world design rather than these arena like locations. I think they should be cheaper or permanent purchases for the current WvW maps.
Our server is just so PvE centric…i swear, all the popular zones are camped/zerged/overflowed out sometimes it seems. I’ve only ever seen Arah down once, in my normal play hour, and 40+ people LFG outside, when WvW has like, 15 on each map.
Still though, these are the two servers i’ve enjoyed playing the most in the past, in TC and YB. Regardless of time, or numbers (screw the score), I’ll be out there in WvW.
It’s been great so far. I was looking forward to this match
I hope you all do well and everyone has fun
however I had to reply to one part of this post specifically. Your calling out a weakness on your server due to it’s PvE nature…. yet TC is the unofficial RP server. There was a commander on the field a couple of nights ago(TC) that was roleplaying in the EB.
really i’m not sure you can call your server PvE side a weakness. The lack of full coverage sure, but not against the TC on PvE. :P
good luck everyone and may the fun be with you.
TC lost SM to a 5 golem zerg from CD a few hours ago. They zerged the north outer gate, got through, and we wiped about 75% of their forces.
But noone watched the golems, and they ran to the east inner gate and knocked that down. CD was in the Lords room while most where still outside on the clean up job. Lost SM a few minutes after that.
Few hours later, after CD caps all of HoD’s stuff off of us, main force attacks SM with trebs, tear a wall down, go north, and attack it. 5 of us rock up, decide to go hit the south gate to see what happens.
CD pushed the main force back out and downed our trebs, but the 5 of us took down the south gate before they noticed. We rallied those left outside the south wall, ported them in, roflstomped into the Lord’s room, and reclaimed Stonemist back in the name of Tarnished Coast.
Fun night thus far.
That’s awesome. I went to bed just after we lost SM :P grats guys. I gotta admit that CD has been pushing really well even when the score is not with them. That’s a server and how they should be fighting. SCORE MEANS NOTHING.
GL everyone. I will be coming in next match up. Probable on Sunday
For the Toast I would suggest checking with https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/members/Alodar-5794 . He has been successful getting recruiting our gaps in coverage. It’s helped push us up to teir 2.
However, I get the feeling that 12 to 4 est is our a strong hours, but don’t qoute me on that. Check up with someone who is paying attention to that. I’m just a casual WvWer.
I think this is an awesome idea. I would also like to see
GW2 engine revised to allow for seamless map loading(ala WoW).
The reason for this. So that GW2 can have some truly MASSIVE maps so that we can have much larger worlds. As it is right now the maps are more like an arena rather than a world. 2 weeks Alterac valley or Arathi basin is too long
Commanders get there position from Guild influence purchase. Commanders also can purchase squad bonuses by way of guild. Similar to how a guild can boost a keep.
more dynamic WvW events when one side does really well.
Yes though I think a sea version of WvW would be pretty awesome. I can imagine it now. Cannons, swinging on ropes to the enemy ship. Boarding. Supply gathering by sailing to islands. Small island keeps that can be attacked by ground and sea….. why isn’t this in the works?
Personally I’m a firm beiliever that blink should work like a proper teleport. It’s really strange that a super simple jump to a platform cannot be blinked too. It’s just silly.
However, I am aware that it is in fact not a teleport so much as it is an instant move and must abide by all movement. So you should report this to anet so they can fix it.
Not that I want it fixed, but it’s not working as intended and this should not be happening… though damnd that’s cool.
Phantoms are killable dot’s. That’s it that’s all. Not only that they aren’t exactly tough either. So as rebuttle. Please remove all burn, bleed and condition damage. Please Anet fix AOE by removing them. They are broken.
Well I’m hoping tonight around 4pm PST that CD has a lot of territory. It’s when I will get to join seriously today
please CD do awesome
It’s the first day of the weekday let’s see how everything holds up
I think HoD is doing well enough for there recent exodus. I hope in a few more weeks they can pull together some more and really stand tall
GL
Sometimes I wonder if all these “remove” threads are based around one principle.
“Please remove X so my melee build is effective and everything else is nerfed to be useless”
Well I didn’t get to play last evening. I did however get to play Saturday morning server time. It was rather an exiting morning too.
My daughter, son and myself logged in to play some WvW. It was a delight to see that CD had most of the map and 400apx scoring while we were around 200. No picture I often don’t. We joined the TC Borderlands to show them the the karma shop. While there we noticed an assault on Dreadfall and joined in.
Dreadfall
Wow. I must say that CD had that played locked down tight. The direct entrance in was defended while the south gate had trebs bombarding the inner walls. After finding that CD owned both the inside and outside of the walls the hard way. We went in by the water gate :P joined the inside fighters. It was a fun battle. Attempted to push a force to get those trebs. But CD pushed us back down the stairs. I suppose we needed another force coming around the back rather than the front. We fought in the inner keep only to lose it when the walls came down. Good job CD
However CD didn’t let up the least.
Shadaron Hills
So the three of us started re-orginizing back at the garison and and the citidel. We tried to get my son’s character kjg(yeah I know it sounds like a gold spammer) a bow or rifle only to find that he made a guardian. Being only level 7 him running into melee was usually a death warrant. Ok ok enough of that. SH was under attack by CD of course. We went to join in. We entered through the NW gate and heading to the bridge that led to the lords room only to find a massive army of CD. It looked like a see of red. We were up, down and up again and managed to eventually get to the lords room. Try as we might we still lost it, but it wasn’t quick and I think the server held up well.
At this point we were being led around by a couple of commanders. Sorry i can’t remember there names. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t exactly strongly rallying either. They tried and I think that counts a long way.
We regathered at garison only to find that Sariya(PiNK) showed up. We ended up rallying around her. Went around grabbed some supply.
Finally we waited ourside of SH. To our fortune a or couple of Mesmers were not discovered in SH
. We were inside the inner castle. Placed our rams and got into the lords room before any serious defense. CD certainly showed up in force and we ended up fighting in the lords room for a few minutes before we wrested control from CD.
We drove out CD and started working together. The three of us were getting scattered so we had to regroup here and there which had the three of us miss a few supply runs and castle attempts. We finally managed to get back together and join in the defense of SH lords room. Yep in the between time CD make there way into SH again. TC successfully pushed them out this time.
We went about to gather supplies, but again the call that CD were attacking came. CD was seriously pushing really well. As this was going on we were still losing ground across all the other maps with CD pushing up the point score. ok ok back on topic. CD was at the south gate which we joined in. They broke through only to be repelled…… and then boom we get the alert that North gate was going down. And wow did they come it. We fought and I like to say we fought hard, but they pushed us out of the lords room and finally took Shadaron hills.
Bravo CD bravo. It was exiting. They pushed right to the lords room where we managed to repel them the first time. Get the gates and walls back up.
At this time I had to go to sleep as had done a graveyard shift. But my daughter and son kept on the fight. before I wen to bed though Sariya of PiNK was seriously pushing map control.
So thanks CD I had a lot of fun. Your persistence that morning was fantastic. I had almost thought we would never start gaining ground. CD rallied and was going to hold. Keep up the pressure. It’s still early in the week that there is no clear winner. By Tuesday CD can take the lead if they manage to turn what’s happening around.
Jadon is part of PiNK. I just followed because he seemed good, cool and worked well with others. My daughter was fighting along side him last :P
If the Coast wins we will not move into T2 actually. We will stay right where we are now.
The number 6 server has 200 points over us, we will not make up that difference in a single week.
ok ok, so we don’t move positions base don win loss…… I could use a link to how all those numbers work. Like what the hell is volatility?
Personally I would like to see the buff directly applied to the keeps and camps. Offer the Orbs another benefit than buffs.
The idea would be a exponential scaled buff.
1 Camp or Keep(here on in as C/K) +1% to X stats
2 C/K +2%
4 C/K +4%
8 C/K +6%
16 C/K +8%
owning the entire map only offers a small buff. Once a camp is taken it cuts into the buff. Also keeps could offer other bonuses as some thoughts
Green Briar +2% move speed
BlueBriar(?) +2 supply capacity
Garrison +2% damage
……
LOL. This is getting hilarious. I like the PvP in the JP. But I think the treb right at the front of the entire area is going get Anet to sooner or later reconsider siege in the jp…
ROFL.
I agree with Rpgtabbycat. I know I’m in mostly for the fun. I love the see-saw matches where keeps are taken and lost. Shut outs are dull. So I really hope with the orbs out of the way that it will have a positive impact to the battle for the week.
Also to RPGtabbycat. if we(the TC server) win this. We will be heading into Tier 2 next week. It’s sort of exciting. I would like a rematch against SoR since I didn’t participate due to halloween.
Shutouts are rough and I agree demoralizing. It however happens when population starts unbalancing due to non prime server time. However, it’s not a killer. We had a rematch with Dragon Brand and managed to handle there Oceanic hours.
Plus with a lot of keeps in the enemies hands. Leads to the opportunity of many places to take over. Though that’s not much comfort to the more casual WvW player.
I hope your wrong and that the demoralization won’t happen
good luck to CD and HoD
Commando units and infiltration are fine tactics. All the classes have their strong and weak points.
Some are great at burst damage and hide(thiefs)
Damage and sustainability(warriors)
Damage and support(Guardians)
….
Mesmers(Support and Utility) Mesmer is find DPS over long term boss fights. Terrible for quick battles of WvW. It’s not to say they aren’t useful. They are. I love my mesmer, but I’m not pounding out anywhere near the damage of a comparible Warrior, Thief….
This isn’t to say mesmers aren’t tough. i’ve seen mesmers played well in various video’s. I’m not that good, but it was done through well played utility abilities not overwhelming damage.
I agree though. The culling problem needs to be fixed. I don’t feel portable bombing is a fair tactic. However, all sides can use it equally and Anet has said they are working on a fix. The fix however is a very root engine problem and it’s going to take time. In the mean time it’s open for all sides to use.
As for thief stopping capping. I always though it was silly that 1 or few can stop capping period. I had originally thought that a superior number of players in the zone should take it. The more you have in comparison the faster it goes. So if there if it’s 4 vs 5. Well it will still move. I think it should be similar to a tug of war.
One thing I despised about WoW was the “Now working as intended”. Let’s consider games like Pokemon, Magic the Gather and D&D. All of these games had a very similar structure. They allowed ability synergy. In WoW when synergy was found it was usually removed as it was “not working as intended”.
If someone could use speed boosts and other such abilities to use terrain to their advantage. Including getting over walls. Then I think that’s a viable tactic. Why can’t keeps have some kind of dangerous backdoor. Put a siege to guard it. Protect it. It’s not likely that a massive zerg could effectively use some kind of difficult jumping based entry anyways.
I’m glad they are gone. I really want to see the results of this buff. As the OP you make the claim that people will find a reason about losing ala nightcapping and Orbs. Well let’s see by Sunday/ Monday how the server scores are. If we still end up with the shutouts then the Orbs didn’t really have much of an effect. If the matches are much closer in score then they did.
that’s why I’m glad they are gone. Not because it “might” cause an unfair advantage, but because we get to find out for sure. either it will shutup the complaints or justify them. So take it as a positive move for one form or another.
TC player here. I hope everyone has a good match this week; especially with the Orbs gone.
To CD it’s unfortunate about the loss of your guilds recently. Thanks for the heads about the guild in question. I’m hoping for positive outcomes, but always best to be prepared.
To HoD I offer the best of fortune that your server stabilizes it’s WvW crew sooner than later. I hope that you have a lot of fun this match for those that do come in
To the TC i’m very proud that my daughter is joining WvW and during Friday evening was traveling with Commander Jadon. No i’m not mentioning names, but a father can’t help be proud introducing their kin to the virtual war :P
Win/Lose I hope everyone sticks to it and has an enjoyable match. Based on my own personal hours I think I may not be able to make it for another week… missed last week entirely
