I’m glad to see other players find it useful. I never see it in build guides and each time I try to leave it out of my build, I feel weaker.
May I ask why I never see this skill used in any build?
I just can’t get rid of it. With its duration and cooldown you have a pet about 80% of the time. A pet that draws aggro of you, makes backstabing easier, casts blinding power, and does dps.
It’s not a massive pet like an elemental, but like I said, it has 35sec cooldown and lasts 20 secods.
My problem is, I want to use ambush, shadow refuge and signet of shadows, and that leaves me with no slot for anything else. So I was wondering why nobody used ambush in the builds they post
Like in many other games, most players talk about other classes like they have all the traits at the same time, and they can use all skills at once.
“You can remove stuns without cooldowns” “You can stealth all the time” “You do lots of damage”
Thiefs can do all that… but not at the same time. They don’t have cooldowns, but they have a resource, so breaking stuns means they have no initiative to hurt you, and so on.
Right they just pop stealth, and while the person is running around like a monkey with a sledgehammer swinging wildly in the air, using their cooldowns, the thief holding back watching, regaining their resources, ready to strike again without consequence. Worst case scenario, they repeat process until threat is gone. Stop trying to defend a broken mechanic.
Are you serious? Read again what you wrote, I put it in bold.
If somebody is using their cooldowns on nothing, he deserves to lose. It has nothing to do with class, not even skill, it’s common sense.
If the thief is only visible 3 seconds, you have 3 seconds to burn all your cooldowns, and that will hurt. If you used them while he was stealthed…. but I guess you didn’t you must be trolling because it makes no sense
…In normal games, you start and finish them. But in mmos, you want to keep playing forever…
That’s a good quote to show why the term, ‘endgame,’ is kinda silly.
No, like I said where you stopped quoting me, it’s the gameplay you do when other type of games would have ended-> endgame
I dont know, most people said that skins/armour/looks werent worth anything and they needed more stats on gear to make it worth while so I think they are working on that gear right now.
I’d love that, but I doubt it’s true.
:P
the whole endgame mentality is the cancer that is killing mmos
Nope.
In normal games, you start and finish them. But in mmos, you want to keep playing forever (or until bored). That’s why there is the expression endgame, what you do when a normal game would have ended. There is nothing wrong about that word, and it makes total sense in this type of games.
Well, I’ll add that removing tanks/healers may add something more difficult, which is randomness. But randomness is the bad kind of difficulty in my opinion.
Complex mechanics are good difficulty, randomness isn’t.
Likeing or dislikeing not having tank/healer/dps is about tastes. But saying removing it makes the game more skillful is completly wrong. Maybe, there is a way to do a game without tanks and healers which is more about skill, I’m not sure. But gw2 pve is absolutly not more skillful than a tank/healer game.
I’d love to have tanks and healers in gw2, removing them was an interesting idea, but a failed implementation imo. It doesn’t make gw2 bad, but worse than it could be

Isn’t P/D much better for kiting? Damage with 1, slow with 4, in case of need, get distance with 3
Link doesn’t work if you click it, but it works if you copy paste it
I usually love shileds in other games, but I didn’t like it on gw2 warrior at all. I feel I’m tanking much better with 2 maces or with a hammer.
No idea about sPvp, but in dungeons and wvw guardians are in the top 3
In my opinion, taking away roles is taking away game content.
That’s why I said “some”
Well, some players that claim that only the minority is asking for changes while the mayority thinks everything is fine in the game, are the same that say wow is a bad game…. with 11million subscribers
I’m loving gw2, but it could be much better with the base it has
magic find is a wrong concept in any game, like it was on diablo2 also.
You equip MF to get better loot, but then you play with MF instead with that loot…
I wasn’t using any build that was affected by this changes. Actually I am only leveling an alt thief.
But what non-thief players should understand is that you can’t balance a skill just around itself. I mean, lots of other things count. And you should feel how a thief receives damage. It’s the fourth class I level, after warrior, engi and ele, and ouch. Just regular mobs take such big chunks of your hp away.
So, don’t whine about powerful skills without taking everything into consideration. Level a thief yourself.
Prophet, did you insta buy and insta sell, or did you make buy offer and sell offer?
Yup, this is what is preventing gw2 to be the best. I wish gw2 designers would stick with their gameplay and world ideas, but would change their progression ideas so they can make an awesome mmo.
Defending those camps wouldn’t have made their DR go away
you spend 1 g each day on sieges? I don’t make even close to that each day…
I am a fan of dungeon finder. If I want to sozialice, I do it. And I really do.
If I want a dungeon, I want it now, not in 1 hour. Not maybe, if I find a group.
And this is IF you can really say finding a group is sozialicing and not spamming the chat.
Totally agree with OP
This weekend I’ve been doing explorer modes for the frist time and I didn’t feel like i suck.
I was 10/0/30/30/0, with GS for dps/gettin aggro and 2x maces for tanking/CC. Also, shouts for buffing, curing conditions and small healing.
I felt very useful
GW2: Dungeons/wvw/explore/DE
Other games: Raid
Yes there isnt much endgame but its more than in any other mmorpg…
This post is wrong in so many aspects…
I deleted my answer to the “you are just a minority” because talking about that is just demagogy.
I’m 80 and in full exotic. I could farm Orr but why should I? I could farm dungeons but why should I? Guess what? I’m running around, fiddling with world completion, WvW, and all the stuff I enjoyed while levelling like jumpin puzzles. I run dungeons with friends when I feel like it and I go to Orr when I feel like it. Or – simply put – I’m having fun.
Playing an mmo without character progression is like playing a dumbed down adventure/shooter game.
YOEGT
Yet Another Endgame Thread.
There’s no smoke without fire
And btw I am gw2 fan, I just admit it lacks endgame content.
But you are right, the Endgame in GW2 doesn’t offer anyhting new. And that’s great, cause you are not forced to reach 80 if you want to have access to certain content.
That’s not a feature, it’s an excuse.
Lets say we have 2 games.
- Game A has 10 features/things to do.
- Game B has 15 features/things to do.
While you are leveling you unlock skills, get to new zones, meet new monsters much faster. So Game B gives you 10 things to do while leveling, and leaves 5 more only for max level, since then you are getting new content much slower.
Game A says: we have a new revolutionary idea. You can do 100% of the content at every level, and you get the 10 features since level 1.
Grats for the revolutionary idea.
Why am I not getting experience points from killing creatures and capturing towers?

We just have a chance to get reward for each kill.
Don’t ask me why I spend hours on wvw, killing and finishing lots of enemies, completing events and only gathering 10 badges after 3 hours tho.
It should be 1 badge per kill. And then balance the rewards and make them more expensive if needed. This randomness makes no sense at all.
After leveling to 40 with GS, I started testing other weapn combos. I loved mace/mace, hammer and axe/mace. But I just didn’t like shield at all.
It si the first thing I tried. I had been going full dps and I wanted to be tanky. Well i didn’t feel tanky at all. I receive much less damage with hammer and mace/mace than with a shield.
So, pve for me is, gs for dps and mace/mace or hammer for tanking
Although I feel for you you AngelCole, this system ensures there’s actually an economy, especially at T6.
If you, and everyone else, could farm your needs, the economy would disappear (like it has for lower level stuff where supply>demand).
Having an economy (trading) in the game is good. But beeing able to play the game to get what you need is better.
I mean, if we could have both, great. But killing the fun in getting stuff, for beeing able to trade….
Players coming up with this argument are much more stubborn than the players they accuse of this.
Almost everytime I see this argument, the other poster hasn’t said a word about wow.
It’s always:
-it would be better if…
-go back to wow!
It is not possible. You can’t take away the damage from mele heavy chars and give it to ranged ones without totally unbalancing pve. Meles in this game get oneshotted very fast, they can’t also do less damage than ranged.
Nope, players don’t say that. Other players say you are saying that everytime you make a suggestion.
Even more, 9 out of 10 times they say this, the feature that is beeing discussed comes from other games long before wow
I am no dev, and I have no official answer. But based on how everything else works, yes.
MMOs trade gameplay for progression. You can’t compare the gameplay of a shooter, action, sportgame, even adventure game with an MMO. In mmos you dont aim and dodge (no, gw2 dodge is not really dodging yourself, it’s like using a skill). You just target and use abilities. That gameplay can’t compete with other types of games.
In return, we get character progression. So yes, mmos need char progression. Otehrwise they would be like a totally dumbed down adventure game.
As for time invested – I’m sorry, I wouldn’t view it as investing time in playing a video game as I would say we’re wasting time playing a video game.
Of course, you have fun while doing it, but you are progressing a character. To ditch it after 2 weeks makes the time you spent improving him worthless
I lie in hope that ArenaNet will not be arrogant about their philosophies on endgame, and at least attempt to realise that this is not a hot-join game, it’s a persistent world, and that it’s not fun to repeat the same content over and over again outside of PvP.
I hope so too
Totally agree with OP.
btw, many posters are saying he got his money worth. That is not true. An mmo is not only a money investment, but also a time investment. I work a lot, and I love gaming. I have to carefully chose the games I play, because I’d love to play a lot, and I only have time for a few.
So, if I chose an mmo, and I only have time for 1, I want it to last.
If I want a small game I play mass effect or something like that. But the mmo I chose to play, has to last. Ending it in 2 weeks is not getting my money’s worth.
(edited by kal.4350)
I have the official guide. There it says something like: players often say tps are expensive, but it’s the oposite, they make you win money!!! If you spend the time you would be traveling making money, you make more than what it cost you…
yeah sure, because we are always ony playing to earn money right?? Sure, if I tp bc I want to reach an event on time, it may be worth the money. but if I want to go pvp and back, go help a friend, go to the bank, am bored of this zone, go get mats of another tier, and many many other things, then the tp costs are making me think twice and maybe just stick to whatever I am doing instead of go have fun
The moment a game mechanic stops you from doing fun content, it’s bad.
For the past 2 days me and my gf haven’t done wvw, and we wanted too, just bc we are about to reach lvl 80 and we didnt want to be spending the fraking high amounts of money it costs to travel back to the zones we are leveling in.
It is bad design. Even if it is there to balance something, it’s still bad design.
You can bring 50 (or infinite) nukers to an event but only 3 bleeders
Saying: “i want loot” may be a whine.
Saying: “killing wolves in a forest is more rewarding than doing an instance” is a valid argument about balance
Why are so many people still using this stupid “endgame” phrase? Traditional endgame is terrible, and I’m glad GW2 does away with it. This idea that the only fun stuff is at the end and everything else is filler until you’re max level is one of the most absurd ideas to ever rear it’s ugly head in gaming.
A game that is not focused on endgame would for example be anarchy online. There, max lvl before expansions was 200. You rarely saw somebody beeing lvl 200. you played the game at your level. You were happy to level up, but you didn’t plan beeing 200, at least for a very long time.
In this game you reach 80 megafast. ANd no, i didn’t rush, I’m not even 80 bc I’m playing 4 chars at the same time. But I see how fast leveling is.
This game is not about playing it before max level. Well, it is for a few weeks, but not after that
Are you having fun? Continue
nope, antifarming code
Why should you log out after DR hits? Because once your character is diminished, it affects ALL your activity gains in any map and/or zone. You can change location and map and you will still have DR on you.
what? I mean… WHAT?
you can’t be serious. No company can do such thing…
I hope you just mean it looked that way, bc that really can’t be the official way it works
