are games only made for casuals these days?

When you have completed all 33 explorable paths, you can come back here and say you’re hardcore.

Lets do a casual game. Then, in the only one hard content there is, we multiply the hp and damage of the enemies by 10 (why bother making them more intelligent when we can just make them do crazy damage). Voila, we have a hardcore game.

I think not.

In my opinion: this game is simply not addictive

Why do people need epic rewards to play a game?

Not to play A game, to play THIS kind of games.
You can’t compare the gameplay of a shooter, sport game, fighter game, or such to an mmo. Those games are all about reflexes, strategies, total control of your char…. An mmo isn’t. You target things, you don’t aim for them, you autoattack, you have huge cooldowns, the action/reflexes/skill is just lower than in those games.
But why do they still shine? Because they have levels, skills to unlock, gear to get.
If you take that away, you just have an action game with bad gameplay

I never liked the magic find stat on any game. Even in diablo2, which I loved. It is a stat that should never exist.

Why do Turrets not scale after 60 and Pets do?

in Players Helping Players

kal.4350

I don’t know why they would stop scaling at 60? Where did you get that info.

What doesn’t make sense, is that they don’t scale with items. Right now, they are too weak. Even if they would make them better, if they don’t make them scale, they will always be too weak or too strong. Too weak if you balance them for players with bad items and too strong if you balance them for players with good items.

Okay. We get it. GW2 is not what you expected.

You would be right, but you use that argument too much. Somebody says: “hey, a hard dungeon should reward more than killing wolves in a forrest”.
And you inmediatly say: “You only play for reward, this is not that kind of game, blabla”
(by “you” i mean ppl that use your argument, not you in particular)

No, that argument is not always valid. It is one thing talking about rewards in general, but it is just good balance that in your own game, something u can do with your eyes closed sholdnt be more rewarding than something very hard. And if somebody points that out, you don’t have to come with the same old argument like a fanatic.

I repeat, your argument is very valid, but some players use it too much in posts where it doesn’t belong.

Hammer lacking?

kal.4350

I play with my warrior only togeather with my girlfriend who has a ranger. I player with GS until about lvl 50. Then I was bored and tried other combinations, trying to focus less on dps and more on keeping the mobs away from her. Any combination with shield was awefull. Any mainhand and mace offhand was pretty nice. But the best for it, turned out to be hammer.

How am I supposed to play this game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kal.4350

Yes, cosmetic dungeon gear takes buckets of time, but this is intended to be spread over several weeks and months done at a moderate pace.

What’s your point exactly?

Give more goals, spread between those “buckets of time”, instead just 1 thing after the whole “bucket of time”.

If that means he is a reward focus player, so are you. Otherwise you would play a game where you don’t level 80 times, and doesn’t drop items.

I am out of words really. OP makes a very valid argument. There are tons of posts which are very subjective, about gw2 game style and such. I can understand the trolling there. But not rewarding players for healing, buffing, CCing, debuffing, and such, is clearly a flaw.
Saying :

“badges were primarily a reward for killing opposing players, not for showing up to wvw?
Yes it’s asymmetric. Yes it discourages support. But you know what? I think I’m okay with it. It is things like these that keep the game from becoming a mind numbing “everybody wins” adventure.”

sounds plain fanatic.

LOL,

when OP said “working hard” i cracked.

game is just fun, and isnt about “working hard” or “stronger gear”.

working hard and having fun are not oposite things. When you do sports for fun, you can work hard. When you are an artist and.. lets say paint for fun, you can work hard.

Saying he works hard for something in the game doesn’t mean he isn’t doing it for fun. Stop making things out like if you were reading between lines. That’s just lack of arguments: “lol, if I copypaste 3 words of what he said it means this!”

Closest weapon to what you say is imo the hammer with defense traits and power or precision traits. Don’t forget the damage and CD reduction trait for hammers. It does less damage than 2h sword (which for regular pve is OP imo, so don’t look for a weapon that comes close to it), but more than maces/shields.
I also feel much more tanky with a hammer than with anything+shield, which is kind of wierd. But all the aoe CC the hammer has makes me get hit much less than what a shield offers. I also tried the 90tho and CD reduction for shields trait, which sounded great in theory, but I still receive more damage with it than with hammer.

Explanation about level 80 items

kal.4350

I’ve read several times that you can get your lvl 80 items from different sources, but that the items are the same. Or at least, have the same power. Could somebody please be more specific?

I know that items with different stats will have the same “total stat value”, but:

1. The exact item depends from the source? I mean, I get the dps oriented item from crafting and the tanky oriented item from karma for example? Or you can get all the items from the same source?

2. What are the different lvl 80 stat tiers and their sources? Up to yellows from random drops I guess, and then? I’m talking about stat items, not cosmetics.

3. What about pvp (wvw i guess since you don’t get items from spvp right?)? You get the same items from pvp as from pve or are they different?

thanks!

My only complain is it has too many high cooldown skills. I mean banners of course. I’m not saying they are not worth the cooldown, they are great. But high cooldowns, no matter how good the spell is, are boring. I use them when needed for the team, but I don’t like them. Just bc of the long cooldowns

@Swagman.9013
Well, if i would play a puzzle just for the pleasure of solving it, I would like games like uncharted, but no, I’m playing an rpg with levels and items. There are lots of adventure games with puzzles, hell, there are even lots of puzzle games. But this game has levels and items. If I am playing this game, it’s because I love to get new things, spells, items, skills… If I woulnt like to improve my char, I would play a game that focuses on solving puzzles, or whatever.
This game has some puzzles, but it has 80 levels, lots of skills, hundreds (thousends?) of items…. don’t tell me: this game is not about the loot.

The problem aren’t puzzles, it’s everything that takes effort in this game. It doesn’t matter how rewarding a game is, but the more effort, the more reward. That makes sense to me.

I don’t know how hard puzzles are, I haven’t found any yet and I have a lvl 62,25,22 and 14. But from what I read, they are for sure harder than killing wolves in a forrest. So, it should be more rewarding than that. You don’t need it to be rewarding? Ok, it sure won’t harm you, and it will benefit lots of players.

No Swagman, the question is: if they reward your 30 min of random killing with 5 blues, 2 greens and maybe a yellow, why don’t they reward your hour of effort beating something hard with more than a blue and some few coins?
What would be the downside of doing it? you prefer having your players killing wolves in a forrest or trying to beat bosses/mazes/instances whatever hard content?

Contrary to what some players say, waypoints make you earn money. It is much more efficient to teleport and do something for money, then wasting time getting there and doing the same thing…

Yeah sure. They think we aren’t too smart or what? That doesn’t make any sense. You are not farming gold 100% of the game. Sure, if you were, than teleporting from one farming point to the other would be efficient since you save travel time and instead farm more. But what about teleporting to friends, to the bank, to explore, and much more…

The problem, in my case and most of my friends, is not money. It’s time. We love gaming, but work many hours each day. So, if we invest time in a game, we want it to last. This isn’t lol or team fortress. It’s an mmo. Spending 1 month in an mmo, and then qutting is kind of.. a waste of time. Not totally of course. We are having fun anyway. 1. You don’t have the same 5 skills. you have about 6 set of skills, you can even change between 2 of them in battle.

2. Engineers have fewer sets because their skills are like new weapons, with whole new sets.

3. You ask for new levels of the same skills. Well, your skills will do more damage as you level and gear up, so it’s the same.

4. Whats the problem about a ranger or a mesmer using swords? just the stereotype you have in your head. A ranger is just a class. You can play him as a ranged class or as a melee class, or both togeather. And it works.

First you ask for more skill options, and then you complain about more playstyle options…

Jump puzzle rewards scaling with map levels

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

kal.4350

They want you to do the puzzles while leveling. Not get there and say, “I wont do this, so I get a great item at lvl 80”, and save all the puzzles. It’s the same as map completion. They give you a reward of the same level as the zone, because it is a one time reward. Otherwise everybody would save map completion until lvl 80 and then complete all for the best items.

Like I said, repeatable rewards can be scaled on your level, 1 time rewards not, unless you want players to just wait until lvl 80 to do them all
