I have the same problem. From 6-7days (a play on release) I lag and it’s getting bigger. I wrote a ticket to the AN but blame on my ISP. I was in contact with him so it was not and I know that all of me is OK. Interesting that I only lag in GW2.

Im having the exact same thing. Cannot ping that same IP you tried to ping. And im lagging like 1sec.. can´t pvp at all :/ No lag anywhere else except in GW2.
Im calling 50% dmg reduction on lightning strike in the next patch notes. With dps sce/dag build and new air gm trait you can basically switch to air after every other attunement dealing massive amounts of instant, hard to predict no-skill damage. Ppl will complain
Staff stuff looks good! Ive decided to come back to ele when staff is viable.. maybe now I can!
I have noticed that often the L2p-shouters play FOTM classes and builds. E.g. this D/D ele was shouting for about 3 sPvP matches how everyone is a noob and bad and should learn to play. Then at the 4th match we were on different teams.
Playing on my engi and having “few” hours put to ele myself, I was wiping the floor with him. And said on the chat that for a guy who talks so much trash I thought you were gonna be harder than this. Then the guy ragequit
But idiots are everywhere and in the internet they become more idiotic by the minute. Once they get their kittens kicked in real life for being a kitten they learn.
I was playing with an idea to maintain all kits (with few mods) and make current weapons kits too and vice versa. You could take eg pistol and a crowbar or a flamethrower for your “main weapon” etc. That would leave your utility slots free for elixirs or gadgets or whatnot. Double crowbars anyone? But I haven´t really thought about all the stuff that would take to make it work..

This thread doesn´t make any sense to me.
We already have tons of “up the flamethrower damage threads”. Because that is what this is, I can see that What I don´t see where and why did you pull the warrior greatsword comparison?
Warrior and Engi are two very different classes with different purposes in the game. You have to take into comparison other weapons, traits etc. You can´t just take a lawnmower and compare it to a shovel and say “gee shovel here don´t cut grass just as well”.
But you don´t dig with a lawnmower that easily either!
I would love moving turrets as little devilish golems that scream wiiiiiii and go harass your opponent you could explode them with toolbelt skills and have different effects. While the engi staying back lobbing grenades and cackling like a maniac.
Traits could boost their HP to benefit from their attacks, make them do more dmg, give condis, swarm around you and heal you bandaging your wounds with.. aaaa.. goo? etc.
But maybe it would be too much like a necro minionmaster or mesmer shatter mechanic.. dunno.
What I know though that it would make me actually USE turrets.

But D/D ele needs some “looking into it”. Anet has said many times that offence should beat defense. I see these FOTMrolling eles in sPvP all the time who flash in bob and weave and dodge and scoot around and accomplish nothing. Honestly try standing still and most of the guys still go around like they got hellhounds chasing them AND miss their attacks. And after that RTL away and GG themselves.
But even they are too hard to kill. They can win 1v1 by attrition if there is like 5mins to spare and dance around.
So be prepared to be “nerfed” and maybe, just maybe, they buff scepter and staff a bit to make them equally desirable as D/D has become.
The thing with the staff is that while individually the skills are subpar, combined they actually become quite decent. The skills are meant to be combined with either other players or yourself. That’s why the initial cast of fields is weak. An arrow shot through a fire field causes 320 or so extra damage, or chill with ice fields, or regen with healing fields.
And yes, they have long cooldowns. But if you swap attunements often enough, you’ll find they’re done with the cooldown by the time you get back to them.
I know this isn’t news to most people who post here. Yet reading some of the posts here, I feel like it is. What helped for me personally though, was Glyph of Elemental Power. Used in earth or water, it gives all your spells a chance to snare, which makes it easier to hit targets, which in turn have another chance to become snared. Walking through a churning earth just turned 2 seconds cripple into a 7 seconds cripple. Try it sometimes, and I think you’ll find it enchances the staff’s playstyle immensely.
I have already stated that you won’t beat ever a decent player with a staff, no decent player will ever walk over ‘eruption’ ( no churning earth which is dagger OH earth 5).
Against a r40+ warrior/guardian/mesmer/thief for example you won’t survive long enough to cast another frozen ground, they can flipping teleport/leap at you every 10s or so and burst you down in a fraction of that time
You can try to combine all skills you want, but the profession above can eat 3/4 of your health in 2-3s by pressing 4 buttons maximum, you’re quickly pushed in defensive mode without any effective way to retaliate because your CC skills have long CD and are quite unrealiable, furthermore you lack strong single target skills
The last paragraph of Arheundels reply is very true. With staff no matter what you do in PvP melee will be right at your tail all the time.
But what caught my eye was the “you´re quickly pushed in defensive mode” part. With ele this is basicly true with every weapon combination. Even with D/D you have to actually kite melee or you will get slaughtered. That´s the playstyle and I´m OK with that, but it also complicates things alot.
Eg burning speed needing a bit distance to actually hit the pestering melee, or not to even mention fire grab. (honestly I miss like 75%)
So for me the only logical weapon set is S/D. You can do damage while kiting and buff your defense safely at a distance. After all the best defense is not to get hit
I love D/D but every time I go back to it I always have the nagging feeling when I die that I would´t have died if I would have ran with S/D and kept the distance.
Today has been a really hard day for me. Im dying constantly in spvp with my trusty build.. Im getting tired of burst mechanics in this game. And lack of reliable burst with ele. Got 6,5k steal from a thief with 2k toughness, unkillable mesmers who just phase out when things go awry and many more frustrating things.. I have almost 1k games played with my ele and rank 6 mesmers and thieves cause me gray hair……… how ridiculous is that
Honestly whats the point in playing anything else than a thief or a mesmer?
Yea yea when played good ele really shines etc. The problem is when played good esp. mesmer REALLY shines.

You really have to be sure to hit when going for your “big” attack.
And if I have a combo or a skill I prep with CDs, traits and voodoo to get a really nice effect aaand the guy dodges it. Is that so wrong? (prolly on a 45s CD also) <- to me that is the same thing as having traits and other stuff that affect phantasms.. now we also have the chance to dodge YOUR “big hit”.

Just out of curiosity, why use evasive arcana with D/D? You only have a fire field, i know everyone praises up and down about that skill, but to me its only effective if you use Staff.
To me it´s mainly for the shorter attunement recharge to have 30 in arcana. But I´ve tried some new builds which rely on might stacking to get the damage up and there it really shines. Not to forget the heals in water.

To clarify I´ve played ele since bwe1 and have over 700 games with ele atm.
Maybe this thief just was better than me or lucky to dodge and evade all, because I couldn´t touch him.
It could also be that I´ve been messing around with new builds and I´ve mainly used S/D.
But nevertheless I know the tricks and skills with ele like my dirty pockets and still I didn´t have a chance. He stealthed to wait for his bleeds to tick and his initiative to return AND for me to use my condi removals. And after that it was nr3 all over again
And I´ve played a thief enough to know the routine. That´s why I asked if you´ve got any new ideas because I´m out of any to be able to reset the match with stealth is such a huge thing that good players will eat you alive. Or at least me
Maybe my biggest change to my normal build was to let go of cleansing water, the XI trait in water and got eaten by condis. Won´t make that mistake again doh.
Having played extensively with all weapons in pvp I still think D/D has the negative side of being in melee. Our big hitters fire grab, churning earth and burning speed are really hard to hit if your set up gets mitigated.
When at the same time the other melee just autoattacks or uses his/hers big hitters and usually hits.
So I think it´s back to S/D for me
Today I ran only into bleed specced D/D thieves spamming nr3. What happened to backstabbers, huh? They were fun and quite easy to counter.
It´s insanely hard to try to land your combos when they just spam 3 and evade at the same time. No fire grab hits, no earthquake, no updraft.
Any tips how to counter?
I tried to stun and get back with burning speed etc. But it just was not enough, they just stealth and open up from there and jump twice over you before you can even see them.
I´m running 0/10/10/20/30 build. Maybe just lose evasive arcana and invest to 30 water to get more condi removal..
edit: oh and it seems that lately more and more ppl are running condi specs. You noticed anything like that? Or do I just run into them
Ele is good.
I can´t play another class because I like the effort you have to put into winning. I found a build that suits me and I seem to win most my encounters.
But. (you saw this coming, right )
After deciding to stick to ele no matter what I haven´t played another class. Today I just got steamrolled again and again with my ele in pvp and dug up my mesmer just for the kicks.
Boy. Did I feel like a winner! I had totally forgot how freaking easy it is with other classes!
It´s insane how you can spec to be a full glass cannon and just roflstomp your enemies left and right. Spec a bit vit and tough you´re nigh unbeatable. Maybe playing ele has honed my eye for the battlefield or smthing but I died one time in 15 games.
Yea the build is OK. But it isn´t OP or anything that special you are trying to make it. I think we all know the combos and chains with S/D, if it would be so easy to “mist form change to air 3 2 4 5 blinded and takened havey dmg then water armour of frost 3 5 press healing buttion(aura of restorarion) while swithing to fire for 3 4 2 then earth if i can get that knockback” we would all dominate with ele.
Ofc you could be some miracle kid with cat-like reflexes who can win anyone with any build or prof. But the thing is your mist form is going to be in CD all the time, so that will save your behind one time. So the amount of dmg you take is up the roof without toughness. When you take 7k heartseekers it´s time to pull the toughnesspants on.
Ofc in a perfect setup you can win anyone with that build or with any build actually. But so can your enemy
Good thief stuns or dazes you in the middle of earth 4 aka earthquake and does nasty things to you. Then you obviously mist form and after thats finished one heart seeker takes you out. Thats the bad thing about glass cannons.
eles have one in earth summon skill magnetic shield and engis have a pull in tool kit.
Well I actually tried it and played 10ish rounds with it.
It isn´t very different from the other glass cannon builds tbh. I ran something like that with three cantrips and focus for extra survival because you really need it.
You are squishy as hell You take so much damage you have to go survival mode pretty soon. And if two guys focus on you you´re toast. Even getting away is a chore ´cos you take so much dmg from even autoattack.
