The PvE forums can be found by going up a couple of menus in your browser

Let’s lighten things up here.

PvPers don’t play GW2 any more.
Only PvE tower farmers stay up in WvWvW.
sPvP is a kind of F2P shooter FPS.

GW2 has the best combat system. Period.
GW2 has the best graphics. Period.
GW2 has a reasonable PvE system. Period.

GW2 has the worst PvP system. Period.

1) sPvP will be better if GW2 just follow the scheme of WoW BG and arenas. PvPers like.

2) WvWvW will be better if GW2 just follow the endgame scheme of ArcheAge. PvPers like.

It’s that simple.
It is just a marketing thing.
For now, ArenaNet has low cost and high income.
Nothing will change.
But hope dies later.

If you want to fight for or against a faceless team, OK. But there’s no “PVP” there.

Yes, there is, because it’s the only gamemode that let’s small teams play “poke-the-zerg”, killing off stragglers and see how long they can survive against superior numbers.

Might make sense to you or not, but some people actually like that style of playing.

I agree, the problem is that fewer people enjoy this kind of “raid” sold as “pvp”.

Now, we have megaservers, there is no real foes in different servers, most players have already moved more than once last years. Servers against servers is nonsense.

Let’s think, for example, when the WvWvW maps became open PvP maps with optional PK, agreements between guilds would have much more strength to fight against the allied guilds from “other servers” or not.

Instead of automatic enemies that nobody knows, we would really know who is on our side and who is not.

The quests in maps in WXW would be trade routes and all goods could have real value, made by the players.

Therefore, the castles would be warehouses containing the economy of the owner guilds. This way we have more significant and vital combat.

When we get into a WxW map, we are inside our guild´s castle. A true headquarter that must be protected from foes, server’s guilds or from others.

Who has no guild (or guild without castle) get into by a common waypoint. These will need to fight by any means to conquer space.

Forget the routine. Turn WvWvW maps in GvG maps with open pvp. Millions of players will come to GW2 to stay.

PS.:
To be perfect, all WvWvw maps should be continuous and not instanced, without fast waypoints. Yes, you can think about mounts, too.

Congratulations!

They should just do it already before everyone is gone.

The way I look at it is this; lets figuratively say there are currently 25,000 people who WvW at the moment between all servers (on NA). Inputting such a change will probably anger maybe 5,000 of them, and half of those may leave to find another game. I use this number because it seems only roughly 20% of people oppose this idea judging by what’s read on the forums. Because Anet has no other way of telling who opposes it or is for it, they have to go by what’s read here.

So were down to 20,000; now how many will come back when they hear matches are now even? If Anet puts in a whole set of achievements for each “faction” or “guild”, or whatever you want to call them, how many more do you figure might be intrigued enough to come back or even join?

It’s my feeling that WvW will gain a lot more than they will lose with a change like this. This should be a win in everybody’s eyes.

Friend,

Well, my idea is good. I am happy to share it. Be happy , too.

Truth be told. Battles between different servers seemed like a good idea but became a destroyer of communities. GW2 dies slowly because of WxWxW.

Actually, I’d say with the megaserver, WvW is the only thing holding server communities together at this point.

I know when I’m in WvW is the only time I really feel connected to TC as a community anymore, and I love that, because I think our community is amazing. Outside of WvW, the only server-specific playerbase you have is the guild(s) you’re in.

Removing the last bit of server community we have still intact after the April patch would be a very bad thing, and likely would drive a lot of people who frequent WvW away.

You can keep repeating the same argument over and over, but people just don’t agree with you. Getting rid of a game mode many of us love just so you can have open-world PvP against people who don’t want to PvP…well, your idea is bad, and you should feel bad.

Don’t be fooled by the OP’s words. This thread topis is about changing WvW into a PK zone. My guess is there aren’t enough PvE victims in WvW for his tastes.

Ok, let me explain.

Currently there are no sense in playing WxWxW.

What I am suggesting is that the WxWxW maps (only WxWxW maps) become extensions of PvE maps with new quests, new goals, trade, farms and housing with “real” and “total” open PvP where different guilds can compete (it doesn’t matter the source server) .

Alone or group players could choose factions (temporary or not) as well.

This means that WxWxW maps would allow PK: Player (s) vs. player (s), the real PvP, and no longer a zerg festival.

So, it is a good solution for GW2.

Yes, you are right.

PK is solid PvP and GvG is a major interest in GW2.

Friends, this is not a “debate”. It is only a kind of “outburst” to wake up devs.

“Megaserver” is just a pun for “Mergeservers”.
You know that the population of GW2 is falling instead of rising.

Ok, if GW2 is a game of few and still is a blessing for some, fine.

It’s been my experience that the server in each bracket with the highest WvW population wins. There is very little real doubt about who is going to win week to week, or each bracket of the tourney’s. Five defenders have no chance of stopping a 20+ man zerg. Servers are buying and selling guilds in order to “load” their server with overwhelming odds. Servers that have lower WvW populations are giving up. People who might otherwise compete either “join the bandwagon”, or find other content, or quit rather than become bags in an unequal “competition”.

Addendum

From https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Feedback-Questions-MegaServer/page/44

Just want to chip in that the lasting effects I see of the current implementation of megaservers is that while servers are generally well populated, Anet are basically killing/neglecting the most important aspect of a thriving MMORPG; the community is at a severe disadvantage to getting relevant players together, whether that comes from friends at a micro-level to groups/guilds at the macro level and players from your own homeworld at the biggest level. Before you’d see the same names over and over and develop a sense of community and belonging, now even guilds and small groups are facing too many barriers just getting to play together, and as such megaservers in their current implementation are just killing off GW2’s most important factor.

Anet – you seriously need to revise your algorithms/implementations of megaservers and how you put players together in shards; come up with a way of handling “districts” like in GW1 and rather than having people spam “join in <zone>” to get in over and over when a shard is full, queue people up just like you do for WvW entry so that people can rather focus on playing the game in the meantime while still moving forward in queue to get in to the same shard as their friends/guilds/etc.

yeah i have said it before, ill say it again, in order for megaservers to work well, they have to come up with new means of identifying, encouraging and developing communities, and megaserver has to be able to accomodate people who specifically want to go out of their way to play together.

so allow players to create/develop/manage communities based on shared interests, and then allow them to travel together

Since the megaservers went live, the community I was part of has died. My friends list now has hardly anyone online anymore, and my guild use to have consistently during the evening, 90-100 people online. That’s now dropped to 20-30 people.

I’ve just lost the will to log in these days, the final nail in the coffin is the strict world boss times. The loss of the dynamic nature of the world boss popping up randomly killed the game for me, that was the one thing I really loved doing in this game.

Right there with you Xaal. +1

Battles among servers without strong guilds/communities means nothing.
So, eliminating WxWxW there is no more need to megaservers. Guilds can grow wealthy and healthy. This way GW2 is back to be a MMORPG and no more a “trimmed” version of League of Legends.

I guess you don’t understand WvWvW at all – it does have PvE content. WvWvW is a combo between PvE and PvP. As far as zerging, that is the PLAYER’S OPTION, not the game. I often play WvWvW in a small dedicated and coordinated group. Also, with the advent of voice communication, who is to say the big ARE UNCOORDINATED? The term ‘ZERG’ means uncoordinated or mindless (look at most world bosses – those are ZERGs), but big groups are hard to coordinate and to the player on an opposing side, they look uncoordinated.

Try EotM then, that is a new map in the mists. That is mostly PvE, as that is how the players are using that map.

There is a real PvP – sPvP and yes you can play GvG in that, just not with 8 people per team.

As far as your suggestion, you know not what you are talking about. WvWvW has the most players in it, based on what A.Net has said.

I guess you don’t understand “Guild Wars” at all.

Imagine trying to organise three large guilds to compete at the same time. You’d be lucky to get one match a week.

Ok, Let me explain:

No more WxWxW. We use only the maps to preserve PvE as it is.
There are several guilds and a lot of “foreveralones”.
It´s only and classic “open PvP” among guilds, parties or factions from any server (megaserver), not among servers. Yes, 1×1 duels too.

No more zergs but battles everywhere for territories, areas, new objectives, dangerous quests, you decide.

It would be fun, hard and good to play everyday.

No, you aren’t.

GW2 will be perfect when take from other games what they have made better and to make the best. This is the secret of Warcraft in this last decade. We need open world, no more square boundaries, no more PvP progress independent from PvE, working and interesting crafting. Well, an expansion takes time to make. It must have some relation with the lore, new areas (big ones, and those are pretty hard to make, lots of details), new enemies and maybe new mechanics, new classes/races maybe (also have to think about a nice kit of skills for weapons and utilities and balance traits)

If we already have problems with the game, why spend time creating new stuff instead of working on stuff that will make future plans easier?
Stop asking for a expansion, there’s the gems store to spend your money already.

Why is competition so important?

I believe in freedom of choice, so that you can turn on or off the PvP mode. People can decide about it. It is open to discussion:

Does Instanced PvP create competition?

…and GW2 has failed to realize this fact, at least at the current stage. Instanced PvP (sPvP or WvWvW) does not create competition, rivalry, or a realistic game world.

Duels, battlegrounds, arenas, and warplots are almost essential to the design of every current MMO, but they don’t have to be the end-all be-all.

It is important for the actual game world the be inhabited by more than idle NPCs and the occasional leveler past launch, and world PvP is the way to accomplish that.

Let me make a distinction: world PvP should NOT replace instanced PvP, it should increase player interaction with the world.

Let’s set one thing straight: most players don’t PvP for free. Players need a carrot on the stick because in general the stick just isn’t enough to keep people interested.

GW2 is still the best MMO in terms of art direction and action combat, beats all the others.

But – pay attention – to face WildStar and Everquest Next, GW2 needs desperately of:

- Factions
- Open PvP everywhere and duels (with option flag: pvp on ou off.
- Police, trial and prisons
- Better and valuable loot everywhere
- More Pve maps (open PvP)
- Housing in WxWxW
- More traditional quest and better rewarding
- Portuguese translation

By the way, from another forum:

“Hello!
Games are a psychological experience. And the way they feel is of paramount importance.

That being said, let me use examples from original ____ to show what constitutes ____ feel:

Real danger was often imminent, and you really didn’t want to die. This kept players in a state of high awareness and thus complete immersion.
Players relied on each other for both complex and mundane tasks. (res, TP, buffs, CR, etc)

Trade skills required devotion to max out, causing those players to become highly valued.

Players could engage in complex tasks and build a reputation in the community.

This led to appreciation, attention, and new relationships.

Quests could be long, hard, and elusive… but very rewarding. (epic weapons)
Players valued what they earned, since it usually required considerable effort.

Traveling was not always trivial, and was often scary.

Players learned to share, since for a long time, instances did not exist. Instancing disconnects players from the living world, thus breaking the feeling of truly being part of it.

The game was a rich journey to be savored, instead of just an aggressive min-maxing hunt.

These were the things that made ____ so memorable. There was persistence of alertness, determination, length, care, accomplishment, proper rewards, and daily collaboration among strangers. This is what I believe ____ needs.

Modern games are too often designed to cater to the lowest common denominator. Spoon-fed quests. Mindless killing. Minimal thinking. Content fed through a fire hose. Instant gratification. Short-lived gear. Flashy character appearance. Horrific communities. User interfaces that automate everything.

I hope the development team reads these forums.

Thanks"

“Yes, that’s what I am saying. Put everyone on 1 server. Integrate everyone, break down these barriers between the movie watches (pve), the actors(rp) and the real life story (pvp). I say set it up like eve. Have your hko areas that people can take taxi or shuttle between. You are not 100% safe in these areas. But if you do get hit, just tank it till the police rock up and blow the aggressor away. Then all the areas in the middle make pvp and player driven content.

GW2 needs to become a mmo about a war between 2 factions trying to get to the riches that await from a past empire. This isn’t co-op mode, one day the masses that like coop mode will realise the real game play is in the player driven content and integration. That will force developers to realise that’s how you create longevity. They have got housing which is a start and warplots on the way. But how about we fight for land, fight for something that can be taken or destroyed. Fight for something that we have created, put some awesome dungeons or quest hubs in these area. Make us earn the right to the sexiest gear, the craziest mask. Most of all, don’t let it take till level 30 for this to happen. Throw it in right at the start.”

Thanks"

Imagine a new style of PvP mixed with RPG but, in fact, is a game of chess?
A chessboard dungeon where players can take roles as pawn, bishop, queen etc under the same (almost) rules of chess.
It would be fun and a great appeal to more intellectual players.
