long bow and fire, best way to increase damage?

I started my warrior’s WvW as a condition longbow first build. I’ve since replaced all my equipment (keep the old just incase the meta changes again). After doing some math, flames as a condition just isn’t as efficient to stack +cond damage items.

example:
Bleed takes 850 (42.5/0.05) +con damage to 2x damage.
poison takes 840 (84/0.1)
flame 1312 (328/0.25).

Reasoning being, that flame is so fast acting most people takes almost full damage from it – by the time you notice it, hit your condition removal and have it trigger, its most likely already (close to) completing its DoT.

However, if you are stacking flame duration, thats a different story. But you know whats even faster than condition damage? Direct damage. I believe the bright stars of the longbow skills are F1 and 3, its AoEs. stacking power, precision & crit gives it a geometric curve, mitigated by enemies armor. Condition damage on the otherhand, is a linear damage, mitigated by condition removal.

Since flame damage is already fairly high without any cond, I believe the front end loaded damage of powerprecision is better for WvW (AoE wins), PvE vs bosses (almost always they have full stack of flame already). The only place where + cond could win out is dungeons.

If you are just swapping for the might, you might as well swap it to mace/shield or something like that. First, you get 3 things that can pop on swap rather than just 2, second, you get a fresh set of CDs when you swap to mace shield [mace+shield has 1 second of daze, 1 second of stun, and 4 1/2 seconds worth of block! for a total of 6.5 seconds out of 10 of 1v1 damage mitigation].

When a thief or another warrior rushes you and your endure pain is down, or a ranger starts peppering you with a haste + bow 1, watch how you wish you had a shield+reflect projectiles on instead of a horn to toot.

I’m not sure about that Phaeris – When I die it isn’t one warrior+ ranger or whatever. It is snares, stuns, freeze/immo etc then a gangbang. Your shield won’t stop that either. Horn on the other hand gives you a chance to back out into your own line of battle. Horn4+sword2. Unless you have balance from somewhere else your shield will only delay your death by a few seconds in most WvW situations.

Longbow or rifle really is a traitline issue. How are you traited for your “main weapon” will determine which of the 2 is better.

I’d take 10% off the crit damage and take the longer bow if I were using your build. If WvW, that extra 300 means you have that many more people in the same range as you. And because you want to hit as many people with AoE, you actually have to stand further in than your max range to get as many people as possible.

warhorn I love – but not for dungeons. Warhorn really shine when you need group mobility/swiftness, the gigantic PBAoe weakness is boss too. But really the ability to convert cond->boon is super awesome. Most these none factors in dungeons.

What’s the reasoning behind axe and/or warhorn for dungeons? Maybe theres something I didn’t consider?

I am not big on PvE nor dungeons, so take my post with a grain of salt.

1. +Healing adds little to shouts. I’d rather use that more effectively elsewhere. I’ve tried to stack more there and it kittens your other stats too much.

2. Greatsword is very nice in PvE even in dungeons. You can swish in and out and deal lots of AoE damage. PvE mobs doesn’t scatter like real people so its a big bonus. The battles are long and you snowball into max Might stacks, doing tons of damage.

3. I’d take rifle for my other weapon, because they hit so stupidly hard in dungeons sometime you need to back off and let someone else take the heat for a bit. In those time you still want to keep up damage output. Rifle can dish it out. cripple and knockback is nice to keep them off you while you heal up.

Traits:
20(V+IX)/20(IV/X)/0/30(?/VIII/XII)

? depends. If you like battlestandard, take V. runes of rage or pirate. If you like signet runes of lyssa, take VI time your killshot or 100B here when you signet.

for sigil use superior blood to keep your hp up.

ANet, How will you be nerfing the warrior?

ANET balance the classes on sPvP AFAIK. So Warriors are getting closer to balance ( need some slight buffs? lower CD for all elites other than Signet?) . Mesmers, rogues and to much lesser ext. guardians needs some nerf. I think necros and eles need some help too, but it could be just how heavy the meta skew towards having condition removal currently.

yes sword/horn can close gaps but as soon as you get in now what? with no cc youroppoents disperse and you’re down to hitting one guy. where is the pbaoe?

Its a feel thing for me, I like to get up close and personal and go medieval on some kittens. Pew pew is neat, and I do use bow/rifle as the situation calls.. but its personal preference I think.

I like axe offhand for pure adrenaline building. BTW, I am not certain the dual axe outdamages GS in the longrun as PBAoE. Properly traited, you have stupid amount of might with a GS build. the mobility, and MUCH larger aoe with GS3 & 4, auto attack is 150 range radius rather than 130. Melee’s main problem is getting to that range, and the GS can do that for you. Dual axes you are just chasing people with no gap closer. I simply don’t see why they just don’t step back and kite your kitten Evisarate as a gap closer? not good.

I’d much rather use a sword+axe offhand for adrenaline gathering and gap closing/repositioning, and switch to hammer for the “sneak attack” 3 second AoE stunner, follow by hammer 5, 4. After you kill or down someone, switch back to sword+axe and leap out and heal. Rinse and Repeat.

I rewatched your 7.2 stefan, and here’s my ideas: run with a crew – shouts are only cost effective in a team. There are much better solo builds. Hammer just isn’t good without a team to focus whose you stun. And the pugs are focused on their own crap. Your HP is also very low, can I ask you what your gear is?

I believe a warrior is a good class to lead. They are tough, VISIBLE, and with a hammer, can act as a focal point for zerg’s damage as you lay down a 3 sec stun. Unfortunately, if you don’t run with 5 melees, the entire enemy line up will focus on just you.. which spells death for even the toughest mofo. I also find the shield lacking in WvW. most other classes can bunker better than the warrior. warhorn though, is awesome sauce to me, and those around me.

as with Ljiona I’m the same – along with my hammer, sword, horn and longbow, I also carry exotic shield, axe, mace, and rifle. Our single biggest obvious advantage is that we have so many options available… so I carry them just in case.

I have seen Matale 7 I enjoyed the video. 7.2 though, especially at the end is telling. This build simply isn’t made for dueling. The fuller the battle the more this build shines. My 3 shouts FGJ, Shake it off, fear me all remove conditions and heals those around me, to the tune of 5k heal and 4 condition removal!! That’s as good as most specs! That along side the horn with converts 2 condition to boon, throws weakness remove immobalize/freeze/slow and give swiftness!

I swap my elite between Signet of Rage and Battlestandard. battlestandard for smaller teams 5-15. The ability to be able to insta rally 2-3 people is very powerful in small teams and can turn the tide of battle. In smaller engagements I save my hammer4 for anyone attempting to stomp my down mates.

You must pick your battles carefully if you want to melee in WvW. And you will die even if you are careful. It is the price we pay for glory! Run with a party of 5 of all melee so you go in at the same time. Make sure the rest of your guild is behind you and be that spearhead to smash apart the zerg!

I’m currently running with hammer/sword+horn build. 10/0/30/30/0. My equipment are mixed basically of knight+soldier. With steak, I’m sitting at around 3k attack, 35%(55% with fury) crit, 3k armor, 30k hp without orb bonuses. At siege I either get on a siege engine or I pull out my longbow over the sword+horn.

Healing Surge, Adrenal Health, healing Shouts gives me about 15k health total every 30 seconds.

I almost never die due to ranged weaponry. It is almost always getting caught out of position, invisible mobs and/or didn’t pull back with rest of my team. And 95% its a CC that stopped me from getting away and gang kitten by the rest.

I do not do the same damage as say 100B, but let me tell you people pay attention when they see the hammers. the AoE hammer stun is frightening when the enemy mob is bearing down on you. And 2.5k swings 5k crits are not trivial.

If enemy zerg thins and skirmish ensues switch back to horn and fall out for 10 seconds. It gets the focus off you. Then jump back in you go with hammer. If enemy zerg routs switch to sword+horn for the chase and cripples. Let your guild does the killing you focus on slowing them down one by one.

You will not win any 1v1 against a dueling spec thief, mes, or guardians with any decent playing abilities. But noone else can Earthshake, staggering blow and Fear me to break apart that zerg.

good discussion here, some good points. I’ll add my 2 cents.

1. I love the cosmetic stuff. I really want to show it off.. but not if it adds to the invisible enemy problem. While there are technical rendering issues that are game breakers, all further stress causing factors should not be introduced and must be placed on the back burner (ie future feature request only).

2. Discussion/Recommendations of systems and features that do not compound the rendering issue and non-WvW queue-er situation, that increases fun/ reason to WvW should be sought first.


so OPs ideas I like the following:

I think a out of game, stat browsing web service that publicize guild and personal WvW achievements is a no brainier. It will promote guild/server pride and community competition that EXTEND beyond the 1 week face-offs. Beyond just getting the “titles”. If somebody wants to be the #1 Yak slayer in of ALL TIME of the WORLD they should be able to show that off.

I understand mcls point about these “personal title goals” may actually distract members of a server from focusing on “winning”. At the end of the day MCL, this is a game, and “winning” is to have fun playing the game. It means different things for different people, and you have to understand that. If, cosmetic titles are given for different tasks that needed to be done in WvW, and people are having fun chasing those titles I say bring them on. There will be similar number of people distracted on all 3 servers so that should balance things out. Another device to keep more people playing this game is good in my books.

Night Capping and YOU

It will always be a PvDoor type of gameplay. At least, it is always much more efficient to attack objectives when they are not there to defend it. The way the score is calculated dictate this is best practice/tactic. Unless they CHANGE the way score is calculated, capping while you have no opponents will ALWAYS be the most effective and efficient method to win.

Change how? In a way that your score is directly proportional to the amount of opponents you have. The more enemies you have, the higher your score is for holding that objective for that tick. It is easy to hold the entire map when there are only 5 enemies. It is very difficult when there are 200 enemies. The scoring should reflect this simple reality.

How about score tick is proportionally represented? Right now a minority of people can swing the score so much its completely unfair to the MAJORITY of the people.

So during prime time, all servers full, the score tick is multiplied by 100%.
during sleep time, servers are mostly empty. score tick is multiplied by 20%.

This is true fairness. 10-15% people playing at night should not account for 60% of a night cap server score at the end of the week.

I think the people shooting this video obviously has all 3 OP orb bonuses, BUT those orb bonuses are no where close to how OP DAoC realm skills instances were. This is what a well played team can do against zergs. Without additional skills.

if you want to see how good healing shout is, try running with a 5 warrior party.

5 warriors, all have healing shouts. Healing Surge. Utils are Shake it off, For Great Justice, X, Battle Standard.

4 rifles, 1 longbow.
1 axe/horn, 1 sword/horn, 2 great sword, 1 hammer.
X = 2 fear me (horns), 2 frenzy (greatswords), 1 on my mark(hammer),

everyone runs runes of the soldier. No one have +healing gear.

10 healing shouts (12000) that removes 15 conditions every 20 seconds. Healing surge for 9k if you really need it. Battle standard when one goes down.

Scary amount of death at ranged, with mad bursts with 2 frenzied volleys. Longbowman drops fire field near them to create combo projectiles with every auto attack/volley. Your pressure is constantly high because its very very hard to make to you drop back to heal with that much shout healing going on.

The only kind of realm ranks I want is bragging rights & shinnies. Titles, new /badkitten outfit, maybe an aura/beacon that you can turn on/off so your enemies can see you from treb range and will be drawned to try to kill you. Maybe a server wide kill spam if you manage to killed such a Titled character.

I’ll add a few more beside the obvious bug fixes.

1. Increase group size to 10. This way 1 full group is enough to pop up a treb. Sure we can run 2 groups of 5 but 1 group of 10 is easier to communicate with party chat /assist.

2. Remove PvE contents from WvW until you increase pop cap on the those maps.

At least, have a tax in the NPCs of the keep so when people use the NPCs to fix armor, sell junk, buy prints, etc the keep gets a % to use for upgrading walls cannons.

The tax is still taken out of people’s pockets so the game gold economics stays the same as before.

I think 2-3x is plenty. And totally fair they can’t even whine about it because you beat them with SKILL alone and not some BS instant cleanse/root.

Yes, its possible to chew through an entire zerg in DAoC 8man. … entire zerg of lowbies. Because

1. realm abilities were totally OP at the higher levels.
2. AoE limitations GW2
3. downstates and resurrection even from dead.

GW2 is a different game – that can and will improve over time. And I suspect, even if DAoC has the same playerbase as it use to, I’d still be playing here. Simply because I’d HATE to grind through RR12 while getting beat on by the so called “elite” simply because they were there before I was, all my abilities null and void because of their OP instants, and only way to get RP was to kill them for it, when they can roll over 5-6x our numbers.

With cooldowns, a pug zerg will win 100% of the time unless you run. They will eventually over run you. You can only dodge so much, you can only hit your abilities so often, etc… Cool downs even the playing field, which ANet wants. no matter how good you are a mass of slobbering scrubs will just eventually steamroll over you.

It sounds like you are talking about a situation where you are vastly outnumbered.

I think you should lose in that type of situation. If the numbers are somewhat close to even, I have a strong feeling you are going to inflict some major pain on that pug-zerg, and may even fracture their cohesion.

If the numbers are closer to equal, it isn’t the same situation.

20 very casual players dabbling in W3 vs. 10 W3 veterans who spend nearly everyday fighting for their homeworld

I almost garuntee the 10 vets will win that everytime. Even outnumbered 2:1. Even without any major mechanical advantage.

This has been my experience in RvR as well. I cannot claim to be great at this game yet as I’m an old man now and no longer game as I use to. But when I’m on comms with a small group of 5 we can usually take out 8.. maybe 10. You can tell who is skilled and who is not straight away. And we have been only at RvR together for a week as we have jobs and kids. 3 of 5 are DAoC days all the way from beta DAoC.

If you’re being run over by mass of slobbering scrubs because you’re on cooldowns, it is your fault and you’re just as scrubby as they are for failing to properly assess the situation. You’ve taken on more than you can chew.

Learn to burst 1 down, kill him off, back up, swap weapon, pressure and heal up, swap to burst, and re-engage and repeat. Properly made roaming-killing team of 5 made to for a nice team romp will not have problems killing 10 “generic WvW solo” PUGs. If you do, learn to play better GW2.

So please, not every who disagree with you about RPs and realm ranks are scrubs or WoW kids. Now there are problems right now that makes the 8v8 or small man days hard to accomplish here.

1 – Maps needs to be bigger. about 2x distances from one objective to another at least. Right now its hard to roam without running into the zerg, outside a handful of out of the way places. fighting at those places is getting boring.

2 – Invisible peoples! A few times we’ve engage thinking that we can take them, when they are actually 3-4 times the size. Now we tend to face off and circle for quite a bit (maybe 30 – 45 seconds) to wait for everyone to load before we engage. This sucks and we lose the surprise -shock troop advantage.

3 – hackers. stop the speedhackers. Due to our team composition and skill choice we know when some are abnormally fast because our team is made to Roam FAST. The hackers have it on a 10%-15% speed increase so they are not noticeable but they are noticeable to us.

I mentioned in another post that I agree with people saying we shouldn’t just turn GW2 pvp into DAoC pvp, but I don’t see why we can’t take the good ideas and learn from it to make GW2 the ultimate pvp?

I don’t want any extra abilities, etc – like RR5 used to give you effective lvl 51 – and RR10 gave you so many extra abilities it was just too hard for others to compete. But I think titles like ‘Sea of Sorrows OMGIKEELYOU’ rather than ‘Sea of Sorrows Invader’ would be a neat addition that can do no harm and helps give those who want a sense of progression exactly that.

Also think Darkness Falls would be a neat idea – I know Mike has already commented on the possibility of something like that appearing.

I certainly think WvW has a ton of potential, it just needs some tweaking from Anet to make it reach that potential.

Realm Abilities got to be over powered the higher up you went and the more you had. My suggestion is to add Talent Points for RR’s and RR sub dings. So, one talent point for 1.1, when you hit RR2 you get another chooseable ability. If that’s too over powered, how about the Champion Levels they added later? Those were much more of a sideways progression instead of straight up.

I hit 50 on a prince run in DF while fighting off albs who were recently locked out. It was an epic night. Next day I got my epic armor (what do you mean we share the same skin as a a BM! argh!) At the time epic armor was still kinda new so everyone gawked, it was great! Big huge firby in epic armor! Back then they even had resistances to things NOT in the game, were broken, or were way to specific, like Darkness and what not.

Really, I just want some kinda reason to WvW. The world is too small right now to roam and there is really no reason to WvW outside of killing things which will get old soon enough. I like progression in a chracter, this is an RPG after all.

The main issue here is that even if I WvW none stop, and kill 100k people, I will be no better off toon wise than some scrub who ground out tokens in a dungeon and jumped in with 0 kills. * Oh, my skill will be higher, but the toons will be equal. * Makes no sense to me.

That, and you have a tight crew that understands the dynamics of RvR because you’ve been mashing brains while they grind dungeon mobs. How to gauge opponent strength, engagement distance, which skills to dodge, when to chase and when to flee, etc, etc etc, should be enough right there. If you’re still getting rolled by PUG zergs that pop in to have some casual random fun, you’re not as good as you think you are.

I want to add that there should be level limit of joining Eternal battlegrounds.

Only 30+ or 60+ or 80+ have to be allowed to join Eternal while borderlands will be free to join at any level.

1.This will take some height from Eternal queue which as stated is heavier than borderlands.
2.Will let newbies learn the basics of WvW and don’t get 1 shot in Eternal or mess up iwth the politics there due to their 0 WvW knowledge.
3.Will reduce the amount of hackers if they do exist since i’m pretty sure most of those are low levels when they join WvW.

Because for them, it isn’t about that. It’s about being able to steamroll any newer players easily with inflated stats because they’ve been doing it longer. It’s about finding a sense of pride in creating a character persona that grows to be powerful, like a god among men.

It’s a sense of entitlement, and of retribution for the things they do not or can not have in their real life. They don’t want rewards, they want rewards that put them in a class above brand new players.

lol. Got owned a lot in other MMOs, did we? You people complain about gear in games like WoW, but it’s honestly just an excuse for playing bad. I beat better geared people ALL THE TIME. It’s not hard – you have to play smart. In DAOC, I beat incredibly high realm rank assassin’s with a lowbie RR minstrel without a pet (one of the hardest classes in the game to do this, btw). Don’t just jump to conclusions like “oh he wants gear so he can facerollwinlolgg”.

Don’t believe me? Look on youtube for a video of a WoW rogue killing plenty of people 1v1 with lvl 1 gear on at 80 v 80 (I forget the name of the player). Yes, gear makes it easier – but skill will win 90% of the time.

PS. I’m not saying you guys are not skilled at gaming, I understand you don’t have the time to put into these games that other players do.

I just dont want to have to grind gear sets, its boring and takes time away from pwning newbs. If you need something more rewarding then what is currently offered in WvW that is understandable but the way the game is designed it shouldnt give you any advantage over another player, skill does that alone..and orbs.

So if I create a new character at level 1 with no gear, I should be able to beat your 80 with full exotic gear with no problem, right?

point being – there’s already enough ramp up time level 80 + exotic gears. We don’t need another RR point grid so you can roll with more or less equal footing. Its just another treadmill.

Please focus on what you need to do.

Don’t get distracted by a lot of people complaining and focus on the true problems of WvW first:

1 – Invisible People of Doom
2 – Queues so long guildies can’t even play together
3 – Speedhacks & Flyers.

I think everyone can agree those 3 problem solved will go a long way.

As you can see OP, there are a lot of people who do not have the same view as you about what GW2 WvW lacks/needs. Even DAoC vets. Different people enjoy different things, and its all a matter of opinion. At the end of the day, ANET will have to decide which features are more fun to most of their customers.

Score should at least be proportion to the total number of players on all the maps. That way its “fair”. If there are 2000 people during prime time, vs. 200 people from one side night capping everything, those times the ticks are worth only 10% of the prime time score because well no one is playing congrats on being really good at gate bashing.

Speaking also as DAoC vet:

1. Disagree with point 1. WvW should be its own reward. I don’t want another grind thanks for realm points. I just want to do WvW. I get karma, great. I get money its required as I need money to fund the war efforts. badges are also a bonus. Even if I don’t any of the above I’d still do it because its fun for me. No skinner box buttons required. Getting better at it while having fun should be the goal I don’t need or want extra advantage over people who do it less often than me.

2. Lack of Community tools totally agree. What’s the excuse for for having server based forums so the servers can at least have an easy place to coordinate? kittenthing should be accessible in game! How about some chat rooms where guild leaders can form? Something!

3. Too hard to kill people… huh? Only true if you spec, trait and have the right gear to avoid death. Your damage output & team utility is sacrificed for the survivability. On water combat I agree with you 100%.

Orb buff is ruining WvW, please change it.

Another option – orb bonus only present when you’re within the SMC walls.. it it give substantial bonus that is focused, but not totally dominating all maps like they do now.

I’ve tried all sorts of builds for WvW. At the end of the day I went with Longbow and Sword+Warhorn for most part. Sometimes I’ll run with sword+warhorn / Hammer if I’m running a small hit & run disruption team.

While it is true that you can kill people with Rifle, I don’t find it decisive. With the longbow I can make a much bigger difference in WvW than just putting pressure on one guy in the opposing zerg. Same with warhorn. IMO Only siege weapons can make you more effective, but that also locks you into place.

I run 10/0/30/30, varying traits depending on the tasks at hand. Healing shouts + quickbreath is awesome. I ause runes of the soldier, and run 3 shouts Shake it Off, For Great justice and fear me. I don’t put anything in healing but even so I have 3 shouts that can remove conditions + heal everyone around me, as well as warhorn that can further reduce harm and remove immobalize and haste myself and those around me, and apply weakness to a fairly large area.

Yes, you may have problems dueling. But that really isn’t what WvW is about. If you want to duel try sPvP or tPvP. But even 1v1 I’m not totally kitted I have a lot of tricks. I can drop a fire field with the longbow Burst then switch to sword 2 to complete a combo. With the warhorn 5 their direct damage is drastically reduced. My shouts and warhorn eats all conditions and I run with armor around 2900. When you’re loosing you can always run away and reset the battle. Not too many things can chase down warrior sword+warhorn with signet of rage.

Do we have any? I know we have some scattered about in a few guilds but I’d love for us to merge into a guild or an alliance.

In my small guild there’s a few of us from Mithril Circle we’d love to meet up with more DAoC vets!

i personally think they can stay as long as they like.. but the screen should fade to black and sounds start to dim starting at 30 seconds and dims to pitch black after 1 minute after dying.

its the way they design the client -server unfortunately. Many many many games doesn’t have this problem.. DAoC for example has maps that were way bigger, had way more players, a DECADE ago! iphones has more processing power than the servers they used back then!

But whatever network architecture they implemented- can’t even pop up all the player models within viewing distance… With todays cloud computing technology that should be 0 excuse. The devs needs a reality check and acknowledge the problem before they can even be fixed.

Is a single goal and win condition part the problem here?

agreed with OP – the score board is the problem. remove it. Pride of guild flags flying over keeps should be its own reward – how about a if you click on the guild flag you get something like “Held by XX guild since date YYYY” that should be enough of an incentive.

for a dedicated guild and those that will win at any cost – including sportsmenship, 24 hour is cheap price.

I for one think the OP is right. I know a ton of PvEers are in the queue for WvW clogging things up for the map completion. Get rid of them and make everyone happy ANET.. its a win-win.

corpse scouts aren’t a big deal when you can send a free transferee to do LIVE scouting.
