Was looking for an excuse to play the Witcher 3 add on for the last 2 months. But I really want to get back to my new build Thief.
For exotic rarity and below, swap out weapons and armor because it’s usually the cheaper change. What you swap only determines the magnitude of the change – you don’t lose any attribute points if you change out one piece instead of another (which wasn’t always the case). Swapping shoulders, gloves, or boots will have the smallest effect; then helm; then legs; then chest; then weapons will have the largest effect. The wiki has a table of the attribute bonuses granted by equipment of each rarity.
Depending on what you’re fighting, you could also try LOSing them so that you can hit more of them with a single attack, or if you’re fighting melee mobs cast Glyph of Elemental Power in Earth attunement so that your attacks in any attunment will apply cripple, allowing you to kite mobs very easily.
Thanks.. Maybe I will be able to keep all of Zerker gear and go with your last suggestion. I will try it when I get home this evening.
When battling 2 enemies at the same time every now and then all of the dodging in the world does not help. So if I decide to make my self a little less squichy by getting 3 pieces of knight gear which 3 should I get? Or does it matter?
A full set of scholar runes will give you a total of 175 power, 100 ferocity, and a 10% modifier to direct damage when over 90% health.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I know how to calculate the other runes.
When you get all 6 runes of scholar is that +100 for each piece or is it +100 for all 6 pieces of gear?
Thanks for the quick response.
Hope this isn’t looked upon as a dumb question, but I was wondering if this only works when you are in Earth attunement or does it carry over to the other elements?
Hello guys, I just downloaded the game, and I read… I read a lot.
1) So I have found many different builds for pve and pvp, but I dont know which one to focus on to start off my adventure, I know there isn’t really the best one etc, but if you can mention what builds works for you the best in pve AND pvp, with the weapons etc, I would REALLY appreciate it.
2) Unfortunately, I am a very lonely person. Is necromancer going to be hard to level up solo ? I would like to be able to level and up and play.
Thanks in advance for all your thoughts and efforts. <3
I just read this post in the Elementalist forum..
Replaced my GTX260 with the GTX760 and new power supply and the game runs smoothly with no problems.
it does sound like your GPU is dying. But it could be that your CPU is getting hammered too.
what CPU do you have?
At work now. Will let you know when I get home and check.
The CPU is a Intel Core i7 860.
I was looking at the 6/6/x/x/2 build for staff and I was just wondering if this would work for the S/D in PVE.
I was wondering if you can use the meta build for staff as well as with the S/D minus the trait for staff?

Don’t use double tap to dodge.
What do you use instead?
For the last 3 days my PC will freeze when I am battling under water where the fighting is heavy. You can hear the back ground audio but the video on the last seen is frozen and my keyboard no longer reponds. I have to power it down and re-boot and log into the game again. It’s ok until I start a battle in the water. I decided to upgrade my video card and waiting for it to come in. Don’t know if that is the problem but I needed an upgrade anyway from the GTX 260. Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
60 + here and i will be playing until my fingers don’t work no more.
Ok… At level 70 I am still experimenting with a condi built using Carrion armor. Is it OK to use berserker runes or should I stick with runes that have condition in the mix. Still a little confuse with the precision and ferocity or is it irrelevant with a condi build?
pve condi is useless until they fix the system. Pvp/wvw condi is IMO the easiest to play for thieves at least. I am not down sizing condi thieves but compared to the other play styles its probably the easiest to get use to. That being said the best condi runes for thieves IMO are krait. has increased bleeding condi dmg and also with bask venom yo get poison torment bleed every bask venom.
pve you really want power builds. any will do IMO they rank like this:
best-
1:s/p or d/d
2: d/p
3: s/d
4: SB
5: p/p
^ALL POWERCondi does work in pve buti in groups its useless and solo its very boring to kite nd wait for your enemy to bleed out from d.o.t’s
Thanks….This really helps me to go in another direction for now. I was feeling kind of week in PVE.

Which is needed more for a thief?
(edited by luckyny.7468)
2 days ago I needed to buy some gems to unlock more space in my storage. The first time I tried for $10 to paypal I got a message saying there was a error on the transaction and to call GuildWars customer service is it continues. So I assumed that it didn’t go through. I started it again for $20 dollars (figured I would need extra to expand my inventory) and got the same message again. So I gave up. Next day I check my e-mail and Paypal sent me 2 messages saying they payed the $10 and $20 dollars. I got home and had seen that the gems was applied to my account. I used up $10 dollars more then I wanted to spend because the error message I received for both transaction didn’t advised that it would complete the order later.
Out of curiosity.. what would be the secondary weapon?
Fighting mobs in zones above my level with no problems except I have to wait to level up to 2 or 3 levels before using the gear that is drop. Before that patch I was only able to get gear below the level I was at most of the time. Leveling is taking longer even though most events are easier to complete.
My level 24 thief is even better after patch.
Are you familiar with how 1h weapons work for thief? it’s different than any other class.
Your 1,2,4,5 skill for each weapon will always be the same. your 3 skill will change depending on what combo you are using.
For example – dagger main hand always uses 1 auto attack chain, 2 heartseeker. Dagger offhand always has 4 dancing dagger, 5 cloak and dagger. If you have d/d, your 3 skill will be death blossom. This is an aoe, evading skill. If you equip dagger/pistol, your 3 skill becomes shadow shot (a direct damage teleport and blind skill).
S/P – 3 skill is “pistol whip”
S/D – 3 skill “flanking strike/larcenous strike” (chain)
P/D – 3 skill is shadow strike. You can match them up with my above post to get a summary of what they do.
I’d also recommend playing around with this build site. Very helpful for seeing the skills and gear combos. They are in the process of updating it after the recent patch. Should be accurate soon.
Never realize about the change in the 3 spot depending on OH. Now you just made want to try S/D in place of my S/P that I have been using all the time. Good info.
If you read the Patch Notes, you’ll find this;
“Balancing Creature Stats
Creatures in the level range of 11-79 have had their stats adjusted to account for the player obtaining traits and stats from trait lines later on in the leveling process."
So then I was right… I will know what all the noise is about when I reach 80. Unitl then I will just enjoy defeating the creatures a little easier then before the patch. Thanks for the note.
First..I am not as good at playing this game as most of you. But I do enjoy it . I do have some experience with having an 80 warrior, necro, and mesmer. I started a thief before the patch and I am at level 24. I was just barely able to defeat anything that was at the same level I was let alone 2 enemies at the same time. Now after the patch with S/P and SB I am barely lossing any health on anything that is at the same level and beating anything 2 levels above me in PVE. I have 0 % ferocity and using mostly power and vitality armor at this level, but for some reason have an easier time after the patch. Maybe I don’t know no better because like I said I am not one of those real good players and I know nothing about all these numbers evreyone is throwing around but I am doing good. Maybe when I get up to 80 I will know what the complaints are all about. justme
If you mean the 5 free ones, you needed to go to the gem store Promotions tab and “buy” the 5 charges there for 0 gems.
Yep… What he said.
Rule of thumb, when using a sword, always go for Power. No compromises.
From there, you can substitute Precision to whatever compliments your playstyle.
Personally, I prefer Vitality over Precision thus I use Valkyrie over Berserker.
I did notice a few builds using more vitality or equal to precision.
Thank you both. And yes Yam.. I did mean overall stats.
Forgot to add I am using S/P and SB.
I am just rolling a Thief and is a little confuse due to all the skills a thief has in which is more important. So which is it…Power of Precision?
I like the fact I had an easier time in getting through PvE with my ranger then I did with my necromancer, mesmer, and warrior.
OK… I think I will trait Focus and Sword. Trying to do a build closer to phantasm, but there is so many ways you can go with a mesmer. My ranger and warrior were simple as far as trait.
I am using Sword/Focus and Sceptor/Pistol while leveling. This is what works for me at the moment. Now that I am at the level to start adding traits I don’t want to add a trait for each weapon. Which weapon in your opinion would need a trait least of all?
There is also a traits in Discipline that will give you 100% to rally if you kill what downed you.
