Krookie, I am in no way advocating that this game become WoW. And guess what, neither is Arenanet. Vertical Progression is not a WoW concept, it is a concept that has existed as long as gaming has existed, even back to DnD and pong derivatives. That people are assuming the game is “going to become WoW” simply because it derivated in one way from GW1 is just silly.

Hunterfox, yes, that is what is happening, GW2 is an extension of the lessons learned in GW1 and is also incorporating ideas from other games to make it new. What is upsetting is that anything that changes the game in any way immediately gets called out as “anti-GW” or “a WoW clone” or some other such nonsense.

Tolmos, this game is not being turned into a WoW clone. Gear progression has been a concept of RPGs throughout history. Vertical Progression may not be something you like and you are free to state that, but it is not in any way making this game into WoW or even making it WoW-like. It is simply a mechanic that is also used in WoW, and EQ, and EQ2, and every single player RPG ever, and several thousand other types of games.

Zoul there is a marked difference, Diablo 3 was a single player game that was a sequel to Diablo 1 and 2. GW2 is an MMO, it is not a sequel to GW1. GW1 is a sequel to GW1 because it is constantly being updated with new content.

Why Autoattack Needs a Reassessment

One thing I loved about EQ2 was that it did not have an autoattack. Every skill was on a cooldown and no one skill was a “core skill”. That sort of concept could work in this game as well.

Please for the love of Grenth, stop trying to turn this game into GW1. I understand that you all loved the game, I get it, but guess what? It still exists. If you want to play GW1, go play it. GW2 is its own game, it will have differences. You may not like or appreciate those differences and you are free to make that known, but please stop saying “because GW1 was this way, GW2 needs to be too.” They are two different games, and GW2 does not have the same design philosophy as GW1. This is a GOOD thing, it makes the game unique and worth playing for what it is.

It is pretty unfair that people who use 2 1h weapons get 2 sigils (upgrade slots) whereas people using a 2h sword, bow, or otherwise, only get 1. It is my belief that 2h weapons should either have 2 upgrade slots.

Keep checkpoints, otherwise bugs will destroy FOTM and make it not worth playing. Maybe add a hardcore mode for players that want the challange, but dont punish all of them to a life of bugs destroying our runs.

Stuck with my ranger

I want to be a ranger, its the only class that I really see myself playing. That does not mean that my ranger is good at anything, just that I dont want to give up on it. I am a good player, I can hold my own in SPvP, I can do the most damage in my PvE groups, and I can significantly contribute to WvW. However, there is literally, not a single thing that I can do that a warrior cannot do better while still maintaining my contribution or greater in every other area as well.

Rangers definitely need a buff.

No War Siren, its not. Just because you can only see your own issues does not mean you are the authority on all issues. I understand that you are upset that you cant experience content due to your schedule, but that does not mean that the content shouldn’t exist or needs to span whole week or month or even day periods. In an evolving MMO things have beginnings and ends, you enjoy what you can, and move on.

Honestly, its great if the new mechanics dont affect you. However, Anet does need to focus on many different playstyles, and if they are creating things that are negatively impacting parts of their playerbase, the players have a right to voice their dissent and Anet can listen and decide if the points are relevant enough to warrant a change.

You do have the same opportunity War Siren, you are just choosing things in your life over things in the game. Yet another fallacy of reasoning. Lets follow your line of logic. What about the people who cannot play at all on Fri/Sat/Sun because they work entire weekends doing in home care or they are doctors that are on call. No matter how wide you make a window, someone will be left out. The only content that people cant be left out of is static, dynamic, forever repeated content that makes up most of the game. If you have the mindset that everyone must be able to do all of the content, you will never have fun, world changing events.

I would much rather have events I cant make sometimes that are keeping the game fresh than have a boring static world like most other MMOs do.

I'm finding it difficult to find groups to go through content

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lunabaguna.8293

lunabaguna.8293

A lot of the overflow came from:
a) the weekend of free trial invites
b) all players being focused into a very few zones for the event

Also, I think you will find that dragon hunting has become much less populated due to fractals giving much better loot on a much shorter cooldown.

This post reeks of fallacies. They dont hate anyone, they monitor trends in population and place the events during times when the largest amount of people typically play. Sadly they cannot always get every single person involved in an event, but they can strive for maximum exposure. You still have a fantastic, huge, entire game out there outside of these events. The events dont impact gameplay enough for it to require exposure to the entire population.

I think one of the main concerns is the ascended impact in WvW since the only way you can currently get Ascended stats is by running PvE content.

On V-Progression, Casual Players, and WvW.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lunabaguna.8293

Yeah, WvW already has a leveling curve with level/trait/stats/skills, removing gear from the equation would help to alleviate some of that imbalance; especially now that most people in WvW are 80 and in full exotics.

One time events are fun and great. Please stop trying to ruin other people’s fun because you want every aspect of the game to cater to your personal whims. Im sorry but you cant experience everything in the world, enjoy those things you can and move on. If you want them to polish events more, I get that, but are you really going to advocate that special events never happen just because you cant be there? Sometimes you will get to be there, sometimes you wont. I missed 2 haloween events and one event this weekend, but I’m not upset because there is SO MUCH more to the game.

On V-Progression, Casual Players, and WvW.

A weekend about loot... what did we learn?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: lunabaguna.8293

lunabaguna.8293

OP is missing the point. Loot is not a thing, goals are. People see loot as a means to a goal, whatever that goal is. If someone’s goal is high dps, loot is a means to that goal. If someone wants a cool looking skin, loot is a means to that goal. If someone wants to be better prepared to face new content, loot is a means to that goal. People (myself included) enjoyed the event, but we also enjoyed the loot because for our individual goals, it helped us further them.

That being said, you have a gripe about the difficulty of the event and how it made you rage. If there was nothing hard or frustrating about the event, it would have been lame, not immersing, and stupid. That we had parts that were ridiculously hard even for a zerg, is what made the event GOOD. Difficulty makes us shine, and your claim that people are overlooking something bad because they got loot is you missing the point of why difficulty exists.

I loved every moment of this event. And I ALSO loved getting loot at the end.

I believe that Precursors should be sold in the Gem Store

setting the price higher on the gem store would encourage tp sellers to raise costs, further inflating the market. Setting them lower would hurt in game sellers, removing a source of income and likely driving them to buy gold from other sources, also inflating the market. Bad idea either way.

If you dont have time to farm, legendaries arent for you. You dont have to be able to experience every part of the game.

So it seems we are at a collision of the desires of these 3 groups of players:
1) Players who have enough time on their hands to have reached the highest tier of gear and find themselves wanting a sense of personal pve progression
2) Players who do not have the time to devote to maintaining a gear treadmill but want to enjoy the game and still have a sense of progression
3) Players who want to WvW on even footing without a grinding treadmill of gear requiring them to take a break from that to remain competitive.

These 3 arent mutually exclusive, but they present a problem in giving everyone what they want.

Solution:

The solution is already in the game and could be taken advantage of with a few tweaks to improve the mechanics in place.

First, FOTM is a great direction for both the first two groups, it gives a scaling difficulty of content that can be churned out quickly and easily meshed into the game.

Ill begin with WvW difficulties from gear treadmills. There are 2 problems encountered when creating a vertical progression:
1) It detracts from being able to focus on WvW
2) It creates an unbalanced playing field.

The solution to both of these is already implemented in SPvP. WvW should have a WvW specific set that can be purchased for free from the WvW vendors, the 7 core stat setups should be available in heavy/med/light versions to mix and match as you want with runes/sigils. This allows people doing WvW to not have to participate in the PvE vertical progression.

A fantastic tweak that could help balance in SPvP and WvW is to have a check for what is being hit with a skill, a player or an npc, and using x damage for one and y for another. This allows for balancing around pve and pvp independently when working with skills.

Now, as far as casual vs hardcore goes, I feel that Anet was really onto something with agony and FOTM. Instead of a vertical treadmill of stats, it seems the game would best be served by having specific environment stats to increase rather than increasing base stats by an excessive amount. Rather than have toughness and power increasing, you could have agony resistance, agony reflection, and some sort of stat that helps increase your damage vs npcs that use agony.

This allows players who are not hardcore to still be able to be useful in groups in open world or general pve content without having to keep up in gear: while still allowing for a progression for hardcore players in specific areas (post 20 FOTM or other such places where the debuff might not be Agony but might instead be Foefire or something.

Basically, I feel like Anet has done such an amazing job thinking in dynamic and lateral ways in so many areas, but might be falling victim to the pitfalls of other MMOs by thinking about progression in such restrictive terms as a gear treadmill.

At any rate, keep up the good work Anet, you are doing amazing, and I have faith in your ability to move forward in a way that will benefit everyone.

It scales to the lowest common rank.

Say party consists of 5 people:

Person 1 has run it 20 times
Person 2 has run it 15 times
Person 3 has run it 2 times
Person 4 has run it 2 times
Person 5 has run it 8 times

It will be a rank 2 instance, and everyone will get another notch in their belt. Basically having low rank people helps you up your rank faster by doing easier runs. I dont see why at this point anyone would turn away a lower ranked person.

Pets are broken. Fix them or remove them.

Also, I want to be able to hit for 20k crits every 8 seconds like any warrior can (chaining utilities/heals to fill adrenaline faster than once every 8 seconds).

WvW isnt PvP perse, its open world in which PvP is happening and affecting that open world. There is quite a bit of PvE stuff in WvW, and you really never have to kill another player to get any of the WvW points, you just need to wait until your team controls it. I say leave it in, it encourages people to see all the areas of the game, weather or not they choose to participate.
