got 11 pieces (full armor, scepter+focus, rings and amulet) in total now and frankly i started to think these little suckers are just great.
As long as you use all stats in your ordinary gameplay this cant go wrong, and i actually found such a build, i was actually was suggested one.
I think its definitely worth investing heavily into this armor and i will go the full monty with accessories and also a secondary weapon.
Most fun i had in a long time in wvw.
I abandoned the might stacking for now and use energy and 5% crit sigils instead and boon duration and might duration runes. And will end up playing staff as main weapon and alter between hammer and scepter/focus as one setup.
My second setup will mace/torch but those are 9 days away.
I’d love to see what build you’re running.
This is fantastic. Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks for all that you do for this community, Nemesis.
Heres my idea in more detail. These skills could work on a greatsword aswell. As i said before its just a more viable frontline aoe weapon which fills the role we already have, debuffing with low mobility. Based on the spear and the guardian greatsword.

Cleave. I know I’m a broken record on this, but the lack of cleave is incredibly sad. I’d place daggers forever and never swap if we had cleave, but as it is, I’ve been fumbling around for ages trying to think of an effective staff build since it’s the only AOE weapon we have.
It says 8% but it always seems to almost half fill my bar so i dont really pay attention to the numbers on tooltips.
I’ve never seen this happen! I’m really, really trying to like axe, but I still need to use another weapon set for LF generation most of the time because I see about 10% like others have said.
The only build I’ve found that can generate any kind of LF with an axe MH is a spectral build.
Powermancer is virtually unchanged. Cooldowns were reduced, and I suppose they could use Dhuumfire now if they wanted to be flashy. Also, I will never understand why they believe running a staff on a power build is a good idea.
Lifeforce is tasty in SR30 builds and staff provides more of it than any other weapon along with a bunch of other utility (condi clears, regen, dropping CC marks behind you during an escape). I know everyone else seems to manage just fine with axe/X and the very, VERY occasional lifeforce gain in skill 2, but I love staff on set 2 to recharge it as quickly as possible while kiting.
I appreciate Defektive because he’s used a longbow for ages. (Longbow for liiiiiife.)
The new cleave weapon: scythe?
But for reals, a cleave weapon would make me stop playing my alts all the time. (Oh yeah, and the staff fix we keep bringing up xD)
Absolutely agree with this. /signed. With pretty much every class’ weapon cooldown skills being mashed together with the corresponding weapon buffs, this should be a no-brainer.
Draehl—totally agree. I’m really hoping that power necros get a little love (cleave? trait shuffling?).
I’m really curious to see how upcoming changes affect power-based necro builds. Will we be falling by the wayside?
Would it be more worth it to grab targeted, lower cooldown wells and greater marks/staff cooldown instead of 30 spite for 10% marks and closer to death? Something like 0/25/25/20/0. Just curious. (Closer to Death is an amazing trait and it’s hard to avoid the deep spite investment on any power build.)
It’s certainly viable! Many tend to go 0/30/0/10/30, Picking up Furious, Stronger Bowstrings, and Quick Bursts along the way. http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-so;3RKkN0_4ZL-60;9;5T-9T;124A;13;045AE
I tend to go with something a little heartier to help when the other team is getting up close and personal. Something like this: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-so;3RKkN0_4ZL-60;9;5TO-E;124A01;25S
Yet others like to add 10 in strength for the falling damage while defending keeps. http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-so;3RKkN0_4ZL-60;9;49T;0T0;024A;454Az
The beauty of bow is you can be successful gearing either way. You’d do well with a hybrid set, too. Personally, I prefer to do most of my damage up front so I stack power over condition damage. (In my experience, people don’t always stand in the fire.)
I love the Furious trait, but then again, I’m not a GS warrior.
+1. I’ve never been a fan of this animation. I feel like Pig-Pen from Charlie Brown
Info on his new build, including his weapon sigils, are in the new thread posted above. It’s rage/chilling in dagger and focus and stamina in staff.
Just thought I’d let you know how this build went for me.
After a few dungeon runs, I’d hesitate to call this a tank build at all. It can certainly take hits better than the average necro, and fear/chill spam is helpful, but I found the most success standing as far away as possible all the time which becomes a problem for the more DPS-oriented warriors and guardians in the group. It worked much better when someone else took the front line entirely, but at that point, I was upset that I couldn’t put out better numbers. (Side note: The new Terror is AWESOME. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!)
I’d love to see where this build goes, but for right now, I have difficulty seeing which niche it’s supposed to fill.

It hasn’t been mentioned yet, but grenades CAN be strong on a condition damage engi as well. (I’ve seen seen very viable pistol/grenade builds.)
