Constant crashing [Merged]

I’m in the same situation, same error message and never crashed until last patch. I tested yiksing.9432’s suggestion for reproducing the crash and it does so on my system as well. As soon as i mouse over the reward track above the minimap, i crash.

I might have found a temporary workaround until this gets fixed properly.

I noticed that i was doing the hero reward track and that it was complete ( 20000 / 20000 ) at the time i was crashing.
After manually changing to a different reward track, mouse overing no longer caused me to crash but instead displayed the usual progress bar.

Hope this helps anyone having the same issue.

Can't use any skills

Confirmed. Playing on lvl 65 necro in EOTM when i couldn’t use skills 1 – 5 on either weapons sets, seemingly out of nowhere. Skills 6 and up were still useable.
Unequipping and re-equipping didn’t solve it, but after building some siege i was able to continue again. Thankfully we didn’t run into any enemies in the mean time.

Looking for info on lag in WvW

  • Skill lag, rubber-banding
  • Server: Far Shiverpeaks
  • In WvW, EB specifically, it seems to apply to everyone
  • Worst lag during big 2 or 3 way zergs in SM
  • Does not seem related to time, but more to number of people
  • Estimated players: between 50 and 150
  • Note: Setting preset is “Best performance” with only “Render sampling” set to native.
  • Apps: Teamspeak running in the background for communication, no additional traffic.
  • I also noticed moments of lag followed by what looked like having quickness applied, in other words, i threw my grenades as fast as i would with quickness or timewarp. After a few seconds it would return to normal.

Over Achievers of Tyria :)

I will never understand why people choose to fool themselves like this.

“I got the cheevo, but it wasn’t legitDD”

People most often do it because these achievements are bugged or intentionally vague, making it so that you fail them if you try to actively participate in the event.

Exactly right. I tried “in tune” over 10 times, didn’t get it. I only attacked holograms while in the right attunement, but then i dodge, because of my traits, i leave a bomb, the bomb explodes, hits a hologram of a different attunemnt, “in tune” fails. 12th try, i hit Scarlet a few times, go AFK by the door, BAM, “in tune” achievement is mine. Why? It’s the path of least resistance, that’s why.

Anti-Condition Feedback

It really is disturbing that the devs refuse to acknowledge and adjust things for how people and zergs actually perform. When conditions are well more than half the game, why would they decide that reflecting them is a sane, fair option, especially when there are autoattacks that do it?

It’s bad enough that a heavy-CC build is generally crippled by champions, but hearing this just makes me question whether some devs need to be let go for some vacation time. Apparently, the two-week schedule is causing panic attacks that make things like the above seem like good ideas.

Because it’s all about adapting, im a condi engineer, but for these fights, i switch to PVT and get through it without too much trouble. This would be problematic for ppl who have not been able to craft multiple sets of gear though, i admit.

In Tune Achievement anyone?

It is with pain in my heart that i tell you all that the life of a leech is a good life. I hit the hologram 10 times while having the correct attunement, then i stood in a corner, enjoying my 15 year old whiskey (Dimple) until the event was over. Lo and behold, i got the in tune achievement….

Okay i just tried this tactic again and it worked :

Attack on Stage 1 only with the white buff the prime Holo for about 10 seconds… then go afk for the rest of the fight in the safe corner…. done…

pretty lame but… well.

Ok, im gonna try this, everybody has the right to be a leech once in their life…

I turend autoattack off, checked attunement to match my target and stopped attacking 5 secs before the attunement wore off, but I also didn’t get it.
I only used single target rifle attacks so this one has me wondering as well.
I’ll try skipping dps in the 2nd phase entirely, see if that works.

You know, I’m not even mad at Anet, I think they are really TRYING to do the right thing and help us out, but they are so utterly clueless about what the issue with engineers are they are doing all the wrong things. It’s like you are at a bar trying to pick up someone and you have this friend who REALLY wants to help, but they do it by telling inappropriate jokes or trying to amuse your date by making fart noises with their hand. We have had enough help Anet, thank you!!!! Please go back to your table or help Robert now, we are alllllll good!

You know, this fart noise thing might just work on some girls…. Im gonna give it a try next time.

I guess it depends on personal preference. I use it and after spending a few hours getting used to it, i wouldn’t go back anymore, it makes casting so much faster.
After a while you just turn into sort of an engineering jedi and use the force to determine whether you are in range or not.

Anti stealth tool

No way nerfing stealth would be fair in anyway shape or form stealth is the thief’s only true weapon of survival or in short without stealth thieves would just become immediate giant targets for every player.

Also the main reason thieves run away when they are about to die is cause A. It’s usually the most strategic thing to do (no matter what class you are) and B. Cause if downed the thief is basically dead as a door nail without help to get back up because unlike every other class in the game thieves only have 3 functional/useful downed skills and one crap #3 that mise well be a shout that says “Kill me I’m a thief pretending to use stealth.” and on top of that only one of said skills can even do damage or be used to attack with ensuring that once down unless there is a character very close to death within attack range the thief is guaranteed to go down without assistance to get up unless completely left alone in combat (which is extremely unlikely) and this applies to PvE and doubly so in PvP.

So yeah stealthing before you die and running away is pretty much the only option if you wish to survive. Also there is the simple fact that this is exactly what the thief class is built for/role is hit and run tactics and if a thief is doing so then he’s simply doing his/her job.

You don’t know how to play a thief do you? Thieves DO NOT NEED STEALTH. Build to never touch stealth and you would be surprised how much punishment a thief can take and how pathetic any thief that relies on stealth really is. I’ve ran a p/p and sb build in spvp, pve, dungeouns, and wvw just fine…never used a single stealth skill just to prove that it isn’t needed, stealth is a crutch for those lacking the skill to play a class that forces a fair fight (honestly mesmers aren’t hard to kill people, every last mesmer player gives themselves away constantly).

A shimmer/outline should definately be forced on the thief. The thief is not a mage, they have no special skills, and honestly…the entire idea of being able to use a stealth skill when I am in your face hacking your limbs off is rediculous in and of itself.

Very true, most thieves are lazy and just wanna backstab and then spend the rest of their initiative on heartseeker for that guaranteed kill, so they feel like a pro player.
I tried D/D, but it’s so boring OP i switched to P/D. Played last night and still only died 3 times, all 3 times because i didnt see the zerg coming and got immobilized. 90% of the time you kill ppl and if for some reason it goes wrong you can go “pooof” and just run away.

There is no penalty for making mistakes. I personally look forward to the changes coming to the thief, finally it takes a bit of thinking and planning to play it properly, and indeed, stealth is not needed for a thief if you plan ahead, keep your eyes open and use good positioning.

Engineer's uses in WvW?

in Engineer

You would have to ask yourself what would give you the most fun while playing?
Which I assume, the reason you are in this game, is to have fun.
At the moment i have two level 80 leather professions, the engi, which is my main and the thief. I also play WvW almost exclusively.

The thief I find easy to play, using D/P or P/D with shortbow.
It is excellent at taking camps solo or in small groups and when you need to make a quick getaway from an incoming zerg, no problem there.
But I personally get bored quick because of the repetativeness and the ease that stealth gives you for getting out of situations, which is luckily gonna change soon.
If you take comfort in being able to annoy the hell out of people, this is a good profession.

The engineer is much harder to master, a jack of all trades, master of none.
But if you are looking for fun, the engineer is definitely that, because he can assume so many roles, with varying mileage sometimes
A warning that didn’t make it on to box is that you have to be prepared to go through at least 1 keyboard a month though, because it’s like playing a symphony, constantly switching between kits.
This also might make him hard to play in laggy situations, where you end up in the wrong kit and shoot yourself in the foot instead of cleansing that foot from a nasty chill condition.
But if you are a guy that likes explosions, flames and technical gadgets, and lets face it, what man doesn’t, engi is your profession. It as close to your own Hollywood movie as you’ll be able to get in this game.

Stow kit is redundant

in Engineer

Posted by: mark.3160

mark.3160

I agree that having an extra utility skill instead of stow kit would be a bit much compared to other classes, which would only result in more nerfs and even more buttons to press.

I did notice however that when switching to a kit during a lag spike, nothing happens because of the lag, so i press the button again, only to end up on my weapon instead of my kit which has unpredictable results. What i would like is an option to just press a button and switch to a kit and stay in that kit and use weapon switch to get back to our weapon. It would make more sense to me personally and makes playing during laggy times a bit better.

Move travel box to edge of screen

in Suggestions

When fighting in borderlands and being queued up for Eternal Battlegrounds, alot of times when you are in the middle of a fight the box pops up dead center on your screen giving you 3 options:
travel => you are now dead, but made it into EB
requeue => wait another hour to get into EB
leave queue => why would i wanna do that if i queued up in the first place

We have alot of time to decide which option we want, but please move this box to the edge of the screen so it’s not preventing you from fighting. It’s big enough not to go unnoticed and at least would enable you to finish your fight.

Thief overpowered?

in Thief

Posted by: mark.3160

mark.3160

Having recently finished levelling one to see for myself, yes they are OP, at least when it comes to WvW, for the following reasons:

1 – In open world type PvP a fairly fundamental concept in MMORPGs is risk vs reward, the balance of this is totally off on my thief compared to the other classes I have played to 80 (Necro, Engineer & Mes).

If I muck up or misjudge the situation or am simply outplayed, I can escape combat the vast majority of the time, there is far too little risk on the thief class.

2 – It is largely faceroll to play, stealth is the next easiest defence to use after passive defences.

Also far too much is done automatically for me on my thief, it is as if the game plays it for me – I have skills to teleport me / leap to the target, skills to teleport me away from the target, I have all-in-one faceroll skills like a spammable gap closer / finsher / combo finisher or an evade / AOE bleed / combo finsher, etc.

Skills are spammable, so if I miss my dagger 4 skill to cripple someone as I chase them down, I simply try again, unlike other classes where you don’t get a second chance.

3 – As a glass cannon my thief is less glass than other classes glass cannon (mesmer is second of the ones I’ve played properly), the cries of “oh but my thief is fragile” are pathetic, stealth + mobility gives the best survivability in WvW and scales against multiple opponents far better than any level of toughness / armour / HP. For those who think thief glass cannon builds are fragile, I suggest you try something like a static discharge engineer, you will find 4277 more HP does not compare to stealth + better mobility when it comes to survivability.

Frankly I am borderline ashamed when I play my thief in WvW, at least when I played my burglar in LOTRO (it also was OP in PvP at times), but at least it was considered an advanced class and took a bit of thought / skill to play, the opposite to my thief in GW2.

This sums it up perfectly! I made a thief to learn how to counter them, and compared to the other classes i play (engineer and mesmer), this is absolute faceroll.
L2P has nothing to do with it most of the time because of the culling issue being so heavily abused by alot of thieves. Lets just hope they fix that soon.
