Sigh, another guy not doing research. Why is everyone getting worked up about trinkets.I coudn’t care less.If theres something new for me to get ill do it.And I could totaly see how this is NOT gear progression(Theres nothing to progress). In GW1 the Mursaat had an ability called Spectral Agony and you had to get infused armor to fight them. Its a story related mechanic and I welcome it!
Another unintentionally ironic post, as you claim I didn’t do any research and then go on to demonstrate that you have no knowledge of the issue. Bravo, sir.
In the recent blog post, it was stated quite clearly that Ascended items would eventually be made available for every gear slot, not just rings/back items.
When in doubt, turn your game into a WoW clone.
Like we really needed another one of these threads..
Do we not? They abandoned their vision for the game and lied to players. All of this criticism is a predictable response.
No point in playing the game until all of the Ascended armor and weapons become available. Dungeons, crafting, etc. now seem wasteful.
Totally worthful info/opinion for a new thread.
Perhaps the most unintentionally ironic statement on these forums.
It is now apparent that the ArenaNet of today is not the same entity that created Guild Wars. Gone is the company that put the user experience over an endless gear stat treadmill. It has been replaced with a company that operates with the vision of NCSoft, where power creep and the RNG determine the end-game experience.
Many of us came to this game hoping for a proper heir to the original Guild Wars, and many of us will leave, unfulfilled, now that this new ArenaNet’s vision for the future has been made public.
So here’s a problem:
Unidentified dyes can become account bound if you move them to the bank and then pick them up on another character. Why does this happen? On top of that, the account bound dyes do not stack with the non-bound dyes, so they cannot be used for crafting the Gift of Color. What gives?
I wonder if the developers are aware of all of the problems related to this skill.
It’s definitely hideous skill to use.
Clone won’t spawn if out of range, and that… range is tricky.
Best bet is to get little closer to target than description suggests, wait for clone to jump and then swap. Note, that it won’t let you swap if clone is still jumping.
The problem with the range is that the skill icon will indicate the target is available, but the clone will still fail to spawn. I’m fairly certain that the range indicator and the clone spawn range aren’t the same. I have a theory where the clone spawn range is actually 550 or 500, but it’s hard to test range when there’s no means of measuring it precisely.
This ability needs some serious attention. It is one of the most unreliable and downright buggy skills in the game. The clone will often fail to spawn, get stuck, or spawn in the wrong location. The swap mechanic is essentially broken, and only functions properly on stationary targets.
What’s the point of an Immobilize skill that fails the vast majority of times against moving targets?
For those not aware:
One of the major reasons why Thieves currently appear so broken is due to a technical shortcut/cost-cutting measure made by ArenaNet to reduce server load and “resolve” culling. The game currently polls for character models every 2 seconds. This means that if a Thief happens to drop stealth at the right time (purely luck), he will remain invisible for up to 2 addtional seconds.
This needs to get fixed so that Thieves are not nerfed due to bugs. We can evaluate the relative strength of the class once they appear out of stealth instantly, as designed. Otherwise, we will require nerfs to balance the class while ArenaNet experiments with fixes.
The thief’s ONLY way to survive is stealth. If you remove this or remove the burst damage, the thief is now just going to shadowstep in, burst, then be forced to run away because the other glass cannon classes can kill him faster than he could kill them.
What’s wrong with running as your survivability mechanic? You already run and chase better than other professions. Would you be fine if they kept stealth as-is and took away your blinks and hefty passive speed?
I want you to consider the following:
Shatter Mesmer and BS Thief engage 1v1, and it’s a close fight. The Thief is outplayed and must retreat, but can escape thanks to stealth, Infiltrator’s Arrow, passive speed, and Shadowstep (optional).
Shatter Mesmer and BS Thief engage 1v1, and it’s a close fight. The Mesmer is outplayed and must retreat, but even after using Blink and Decoy, is defeated by the more agile Thief.
Many builds can blow up enemies like a Thief, but not with the minimal risk and game-breaking mobility of the Thief.
Also, stop standing still in PvP. Backstab is a lot harder to hit on a moving target, since it has a short range and a .25s cast time.
Wait, you actually try to land Backstab outside of the typical cheese combo? Say it ain’t so!
What seperates thief burst from other burst, imo, is the difference in difficulty to execute that burst. For thief it’s easier to do that other builds/classes.
So how to balance it, I suppose, would be to have the overall damage remain the same, but have it harder to execute and give it more opportunities to be countered.
How this is going to be achieved, i suppose we have to wait and see.
I might start calling this the “Xin Zhao axiom” of game design, where any competitive build/character/entity that can kill others with minimal effort or skill is anathema to balance and fun, and must be adjusted.
JQ only has 6-7 big guilds (“big” meaning they’ll field 20 or more in borderlands at a time"), and this is just not cutting it in this matchup. We’re losing because we just don’t have enough coverage.
That’s patently false, sir. JQ is losing because it’s imploding the same way every bandwagon WvW server has before it.
Apparently you just ignored the last few posts. Other classes can do it just as well as thief. However, since they’re not as widely used (since those classes have more viable builds), they aren’t complained about and, therefore, aren’t in line for nerfs.
I’m going to go ahead and disagree with you.
If you want to talk raw damage, yes, other classes can produce similar numbers. No class, however, can produce such numbers with the mobility and flexibility of the Thief. The Thief chases and escapes superbly, has great gap closers, initiates strongly, can survive despite glass cannon builds thanks to stealth, and so on.
I don’t want to alarm anyone but:
For now, they don’t care. New content is always more important than challenging bug fixes since the developer can placate the majority of its player base with far less effort. Some of the game-breaking bugs and quirks in GW2 (culling, for example) have puzzled the developers to such an extent that they have admitted “defeat” in that no solution is currently available.
Detha Tremblebones is fairly easy to “break” during the mortar portion of AC path 2. After she has finished talking to the ghost, but before she starts repairing the first mortar, if she is drawn to enemies (such as the oozes outside the room), she will never proceed to repair the mortars and the group must restart the dungeon.
I’m just curious: if you’re going to treat us like your QA team, shouldn’t we get paid too?
Just ran AC path 1, got nothing after completing it. No pop-up for anyone in the party, so that means no badges, no silver, no karma. Good job Anet, thanks for that one.

300 hours in game farming was a blast.
Wait, what? “My free time is valuable, so I spend it doing menial and repetitive things.”

@Levellord
It took me a little over 300 hours to buy everything I needed for my Twilight running a ful magic find set in cursed shore.
300 hours @ $8/hour = $2400. Assuming that this is your only source of income, you would get most of your gross income back via rebate.
Why didn’t you get a job and buy the precursor? $200 or so for the precursor, and you’re still up over $2000. My point? A Legendary doesn’t mean much when the major component of it can be purchased with cash (precursor + all other TP materials), at a yield far greater than in-game time investments.
This.
It boggles my mind that we’re seeing balance changes made while every class has at least dozens of skill/trait bugs present. Making sure everything works as it’s supposed to should be top priority, and then you can see where the balance lies.
As it is, we’re seeing a bunch of number tweaks being put in place with no idea how the affected skills will perform once broken traits are fixed, which is just asking for everything to end up balanced twice over. Seems pretty inefficient and short-sighted.
Agreed. If the bug fixes come after the balance fixes, the classes will once again be terribly imbalanced. I can think of dozens of traits and skills that, if fixed, would significantly increase the power and usefulness of that profession/skill/trait/build.
I am glad to hear you enjoy the game while playing your guardians, mesmers and thieves.
WvW: Elementalist/Engineer AoE wins wall battles; all other classes are terrible in comparison during siege battles
Ergo, nerf Elementalist and Engineer across the entire game because they are strong in WvW. Right?
On a scale of 1-10 (1 underpowered, 5 balanced, 10 overpowered) we’ve seen rangers and elementalists at 2-3 for weeks. Thieves and mesmers started at somewhere around 20 and have slowly crawled down to around 15.
Take a bigger slice off them next patch please. it doesn’t take this long to grasp whats overpowered and why.
Your name indicates that we shouldn’t take you seriously.
Also, let’s talk balance. Thieves are good because they will gib anything not built as a bunker, and Mesmers are good because of 1-2 utility spells. See the difference?
I’ll never understand the anti-Mesmer whine. They don’t hit as hard as Thieves, they can’t run away like Thieves, and they can’t chase like Thieves. Mesmers will outplay you and win, but what’s wrong with that? If you’re in trouble, blast out of there. Mesmers are arguably the worst class at chasing once a target is out of 900/1200 range.
Some classes need some buffs, but Mesmers are treading a very thin line between “strong” and “complete trash.” If ANet listens to people who do not understand profession mechanics, PvP will suffer.
Is this some kind of sick joke, Anet?
Status quo-supporters ignoring the argument about how precursors can be obtained with RMT, hm?
Such a great system! All you havek to do is shell out $200 to the gold seller of your choice and you too shall enter into the elite circle of skilled, hardcore gamers!

The whole, “it’s already too easy to get a Legendary” argument is irrational because it assumes that gold should be the determining factor in a weapon designed to display in-game accomplishments. Buying gold does not make one good at the game.
To those of you who fear making Legendary weapons “too common” (oh no, the blue collar folk are joining the country club, what shall we do?), why not propose alternatives to precursor RNG-grinding that involve skill and achievement within the game?
Lowest now at 3.19g, with only 40 total in stock on the TP. Someone is obviously trying to corner the market.
For reference:
Before today, prices of Charged Lodestones had tripled as a result of the Spirit/Foefire weapons (starting around 80s before the recipes were discovered, to about 2.3/2.4g). Today, with the gold sellers involved, the prices have become unstable and we may see additional spikes in price before the market stabilizes.
If these items start going for 4g each, I can’t imagine a solution that does not involve developer intervention (increase availability, fix prices, etc.).
Well i specified mobs and chests. Figured there’d be a drop chance on mobs aswell.
Still, we’re on the same point here, that chances are horrible…Why then? Shouldn’t Lodestones have the same chances, same values and whatnot? What’s supposed to make them more or less special? So that someone that crafts a bow or whatnot can make it easier, and someone that crafts Sunrise can slit his wrists.
I also checked BLT again, prices went to 5g and then to 3g 20 per lodestone..Absurd
The bots have started farming them across several servers. Expect the gold sellers to attempt to control the Charged Lodestone market in order to fund their operations and increase profits.
So John, what’s your solution to this? You inflate the price with artificial scarcity, which only encourages RMT groups to exploit your broken system.
Charged Lodestones are currently a joke. John Smith can condescend to players all day on the forums, but his tightly-controlled economy is a disaster. Various elements of the game scream RNG, grind, and coerced Gem purchases.

Being stupid with your money and making bad gambling decisions on the mystic forge is no reason to complain. Doing it the right way you can actually MAKE money gambling on precursors in the mystic forge even when you don’t get a precursor. Then when you hit on a precursor its big bucks.
being vague in an attempt to insult the op, while trying to sound cool, is actually played out x.x
I’m not going to spoon feed my methods to the community so that my profit margins can dry up. Spend an hour or two figuring it out for yourself and share in the profits if you wish. I currently make in the range of -5silver to +90silver per combine while attempting to get precursors. Just buying up level 80 exotics off the TP and throwing them into the forge is stupid and no reason to complain when you fail.
So you sell your gold to small/independent gold sellers, yes? That’s the only reason to be so protective of fake money.
Most of these players are reporting that the issues are limited to GW2.
How do you know “Most” of these people are not just running GW2? Therefore might not notice a packet loss issue or interrupter connection.
Where are you pulling your data to support the statement “Most” and their troubleshooting steps?
Notice the “these people” portion. Most of “these people” refers to those with whom I have discussed the issue with, as noted in the first post. No need to flame me.
Most of these players are reporting that the issues are limited to GW2.
Players in areas unaffected by the hurricane are reporting random disconnects and general instability. Can we get that resolved, please?
I’m still uncertain as to why the Legendary weapons are more about gold grind than in-game achievement. Gifts akin to the Gift of Mastery make sense. 600-800g+ in materials seems like a not-so-subtle attempt to coerce players into buying Gems.
So it would appear that clones get the weapons, but phantasms do not.
In other words, avoid Legendary off-hands that require skill use for their primary effects (Quip being the one that comes to mind).
Here’s a question:
Do Mesmer clones and/or phantasms also carry Legendary weapons if their creator has said Legendary? It really hurts the class when the clones are outed as obvious fakes. Also, weapons like Quip would be a waste if the Duelist did not use the gun, as Mesmers would only have a single ability, on a 25 second cooldown, to trigger the effects of the weapon.
I’d like to point out that since the discovery of these recipes, the price of charged lodestones has tripled (from 80s to 2.4g). That is absolutely unacceptable, especially considering that the price continues to rise each day and it is entirely possible that the 100 lodestones to craft Bolt will cost over 300g within a few weeks.
The prices of precursors doesn’t matter when 100 Charged Lodestones (at well over 2 gold/piece and still rising each day) cost more than an entire precursor.
BG looks like it’s going to be the next FotM server after JQ dies. Who will follow BG?
Why focus on one server when you can beat them both?
How do you beat two servers when it’s a 1v1?
If SBI and HoD were smart, they’d solely focus on JQ. But good luck with that.
The HoD militia is now JQ. Are you suggesting that they sabotage their new server?
The current server rankings are entirely invalid because they assume that the servers have been “fixed” in player ability and participation.
Anyone who thinks that JQ will not suffer the same demise as HoD, for many of the same reasons, is purely in denial. Expect this to last a few weeks and then JQ to die as another FotM world takes its place.
I pity the chest-thumping JQ diehards, as they will have to watch their beloved home fall.
Tier 1 WvW is dead. JQ is the new HoD, thanks to free transfers. ANet’s decision to make free transfers available, and keep them open for so long, is destroying world balance.
I doubt that tier 1 will ever be a reasonable match-up with band wagon WvW guilds hopping to the top server every week.
Are you saying that the Emerald crafted set is an acceptable replacement for the missing Soldier’s jewelry?
Hey ArenaNet, are you going to respond to this thread? Is there a reason why you make the various stat combinations available for crafting of weapons and armor, but not jewelry?
Please tell me why you expect people to dish out hundreds of WvW Badges (a full set of jewelry is more expensive than the Gift required for a Legendary weapon!) for Power/Toughness/Vit jewelry.
(edited by melchiz.7182)
That isn’t a practical solution for players due to the massive materials cost and 50 Mystic Coins needed to make it. That is a precursor to the Triforge.
Why did you make Power/Toughness/Vitality jewelry so difficult to acquire, ArenaNet? The armor can be found from dungeons and crafting, so the “But those stats are special so it has to be hard to get!” argument fails in that regard (and also doesn’t fit the design philosophy of GW2, where stats are easy to acquire, but cosmetic upgrades require grind).
This feels like an oversight. If there really is no easier way to get that jewelry than the 1000+ WvW Badges, I should make a post asking a developer to comment on what is a serious shortcoming in balance and design.
