Faster to grind Mastery on Rev or MM Necro?

Again, masteries and unlocking the specializations are two different things.

The fastest way to get all 250 hero points is to get to the hero challenges in the 4 new maps. They give 10 each, and there are about 11 per map.

Masteries require earning the points to be able to spend (through doing achievements) and earning the experience while training that mastery. There are several mastery farms, and searching youtube for ‘gw2 mastery farm’ will probably get you the most efficient place to get that.

I would say the revenant is easier to grind with. Jalis gives you swiftness/damage reduction/healing/AoE on command, Shiro gives dodges/quickness/swiftness/stun on command. Hammer lets you range well, while maintaining AoE tagging, and sword lets you DPS like a champ.

Are the returns for promoting items in the mystic forge still randomized between 20 and 200 (for lower level common items like copper, cotton, etc), or are they fixed? If they are still random, can someone direct me to anyone who has gathered and shared data on return rates?

So, there is one other person from the guild online right now, yet when I try to access the guild hall, I cannot because that ‘world’ is full. The guild leader and about half the guild is on one server, while the rest of us are scattered amongst them. Has anyone else encountered this?

Is Crafting that important?

It gives some experience as you level it. It helps get specific stat combos or runes/sigils cheaper than otherwise. There are some account bound things that you can only get by crafting (mostly ascended weapons/armor).

That said, there are other alternatives for some of those in the game now. You could sell every material you ever get, buy what you need off the Trading Post, and be a happy person. You might miss out on certain craftable things. It’s not considered ‘profitable’ unless you spend some time playing the trading post to get good deals.

I value cooking because if I want to eat lots of food, it tends to be cheaper to make it. I can also craft what my guildmates like out of the foodstores that I don’t tend to use. Its not profitable for me.

As they add controls, they are not assigning keybinds. This is to prevent you accidentally triggering it without meaning too.

And yes, you would set it like you changed your dodge key.

Does +X% damage stack linearly or multiplicitively?

If I do 1000 damage, and have three 10% damage effects, do I do 1300 damage or 1331 damage? Is the distribution of damage an individual attack too small to measure which?
1000*(1 + .1
.1+.1) = 1300
1000*1.1*1.1*1.1 = 1331

I have a shiny green chest that appeared for one character (necromancer if it matters). It doesn’t show up on any other characters, but crashes the game if I try to open it. Could I get some help removing it? I submitted a report ingame a few days ago, but understand that the last few days has been pretty busy. The world isn’t going to end if I don’t get the contents, but mine might if it keeps blinking at me, haha.

I’ve played power necro, guardian, and mesmer since release. In my experience, auto-attack is where damage comes from in GW2. Most cooldowns are for specific cases. I understand that engineer, thief, and elementalist have rotations better than auto-attacking. Perhaps the revenant is supposed to be more like the former than the latter.

What's the easiest way to manage my weapons?

I find a exotics only bag at the bottom helps, as long as everything you wield is exotic. This will, of course break when ascended weapons come out.

Also use the character screen and right click on the weapon to swap so they replace each other. One/two handed weapons is annoying of course.

I really like the idea of using death shroud to power skills. It would contribute to feeling the connection to death theme.

What if minions worked via a point buy system. 5 points of minions available at any time, +1 for a master trait, +3 for a gm one. Minions take points to summon, returning them when they die. Bone minions low point value, bone fiend, shadow fiend, and flesh wurm medium points, and flesh golem high points.

I think your suggestion should look a little at PvP balance considerations as well.

For consecutive axe auto attacks, I get 33 frames on a 30 fps video. Disregarding wind up and down times, it is 1.1 second per two attacks.

It’s harder for me to study wind up and recovery animations, any tips?

Plague signet is a stun break. Several classes have sucky elites. Ele, engie, guard. I would call ours situational.

Is Stability really that “core”? Outside of Elite Skills, Rangers and Thieves have no access to it, Mesmers have it on a skill that doesn’t see that much use, Engineers only have a 50% chance on a toolbelt skill. Only Guardians, Warriors, and Elementalists (barely) have more access to it than we do.

Of course Rangers, Thieves, Engineers, Mesmers and Elementalists have access to other skills that get them out of trouble. But do Necromancers really fit in with Guardians and Warriors in the Stability group? I think we should get a place in the “have other ways to get out of trouble” group. Leave Stability to the Soldiers.

In PvP it’s the stomp and Rez that matter. Thieves stealth, mesmers distort, engies S elixir. Rangers could go invul, but it takes too many resources. Lots take the pet Rez though. I’m not familiar with ele gameplay, do they take their stability, or just mist form stomp?

Anyway, it’s only a few classes that can’t stomp well, and necros are one.

So, you want to plague signet, then epidemic. Or putrid mark, then epi. I think you can already do that. If there are new elites developed at any point, I would want shiny new things, not just more of what I already do.

(Note, I dislike utility and trait “taxes” or things that must be taken like epidemic)

Epidemic has been and always will be one of my utility skills, it is i’d say an essential and signature skill for the necromancer that is quite devastating, therefore why not move it to the death shroud bar? Honestly, I’d like to see epidemic moved to the death shroud bar as the fifth skill.

This is the one thing that jumped out at me this whole thread. It gives conditionmancers an offensive reason to use DS, it frees a utility slot that feels manditory to take no matter what the build. My fear is the response to this would be “epidemic isn’t balanced for every necro to carry it” and would have to agree.

As for conditions, these feel like they would have interesting counter play:

1. Anti quickness — (is the terminology moving to "haste?)
2. Lifesteal dot — (on par with poison for damage?) (would need to enable healing in DS)
3. Damage based on distance moved — (that would help necro attrition)
4. Removal punish — (pair with anti quick for interesting counter play?)

TLDR: Epidemic moved to DS5 sounds like a great idea.

wads, it is a little hard to watch. It’s like watching a first impressions footage of a game where you’re yelling what he should do, but he’s a movie, he can’t do anything but that. Or a horror film. Which is why I’m wondering if we want to get together ahead of time and practice?

I’ll be heading up the mesmer team. Unaccustomed to PvP myself, we could be in for a learning experience. I look forward to seeing some mesmers.

I can’t convince any recording software to record both my mic and the computer audio (mumble) without routing the mic to the mix, and delay makes that hard to use. My current plan is to run both windows sound recorder for the mic and point the recording software at the speaker mix. I figure one benefit is I can adjust my volume relative to mumble in post.

Using msiafterburner. Tried camstudio, ffmeg, ezvid(why is this so terrible), and vlc(no audio at all). If there’s any other suggestions, I can try them real quick tonight.

Edit: total afterthought…mumble can just record the audio directly, can’t it? Well makes that better if it does.

Edit2: sooo, mumble is pretty stellar. Point mumble audio to headphones, record mumble session, msiafterburner record screen and speakers. Everything is covered.

The amount of turning is practice.
My solution to the directional running is to ride the right mouse button constantly. Not ideal for sure. With a thumb-ball mouse, I don’t have to pick up to reset the mouse location.

I run staff/sword, swapping the offhand as the situation requires. Using knights gear and 10/20/20/0/20, I can switch between phantasm focus and shatter focus based on what the dungeon needs. But put me down as phantasm, usually.

The other way to create them is in the mystic forge. 4 major runes has about a 20% chance to upgrade to a random superior rune. Many more armors with major runes drop for me than superior runes (think it’s mostly tied to rarity. Rares have major, Exotics have superior). Salvaging gives ecto’s and superior rune generation fodder.

I agree with and support this change, even without having played it.

The goal of having options (for utilities and elites) is to provide choices. If one ability is so strong that it becomes the ‘right choice’, perhaps it is too strong? Does this change make us weigh other options when building a character?

You guys really have to stop with the “guesting is the problem” tinfoil hat theories.

We are on servers with low population. Before the World Chest patch, I have never been to an overflow, save Karka weekend. I did not say guesting is the problem, but the evidence is overwhelmingly pointing towards it being the reason for overflows. I don’t believe it’s a ‘tinfoil hat theory’, the only discussion is whether this is a ‘working as intended…live with it’ or open for debate. That is why this is on the suggestions board. I feel it’s a problem.

Maps with world chests throw me into overflow. There are two obvious solutions: force guesting to be via invite only, so that the goal (allowing players to play with their friends) still gets accomplished, but not abused (granted, this will see the formation of crossworld world-chest farming guilds, but it will form a barrier to entry that only prepared people can circumnavigate). Alternately, only allow world chest rewards on your home server. Another thread communicates the feeling well, if I may quote:

Because when I can’t fight a dragon on my own server because folks from other servers just can’t get enough dragon farming, I find it unfair and selfish on their parts. Thank you.

Maps with world chests throw me into overflow. The bug seems to be that guesting players can loot the chest in servers that are not their own, so they simply guest to worlds where the events are occurring at that moment so they can earn the chest on as many characters as possible in as short of time as possible.

Glance at the infusion type. There’s offensive, defensive, and utility. Only some of the amulets have utility, which is the infusions you’re talking about.

I’m making a simple calculator in excel, similar to this
Looking for the equation to calculate the damage for retaliation at any level.

The wiki says “Retaliation deals 267 damage per hit at level 80 with the base power of 916, and +1 damage for every 13.4 power above that.” Which is a good start, but doesn’t give the ability to calculate at any level.

I agree that the forums are depressing.

When I’m on the forum, I can literally feel myself get dragged down into negativity. The ascended gear suddenly becomes something unreachable that I need to have (why? beat me. If you see that it took us 2.5 hours to beat the first difficulty, I won’t be needing ascended gear for a very, very long time. hell, my friends aren’t even level 80 yet, so I have to wait for them to catch up anyway). On the forums, the superfun FOTM dungeon becomes That Thing That Separates The Community And Makes It Impossible To Find A Group and I’m worried about that (doesn’t bother me ingame, I do any dungeon only with friends). On the forum, the lag that I expected and wasnt put off by ingame, suddenly becomes The Next Big Technological Failure.
On the forum, servers are empty and The Game Is Dying.
Not to mention the consortium chests, that I didnt even look at ingame, but are The Proof That Anet Sold Their Soul To Nexus on the forums.

As part of the silent lurker crowd, I agreed so strongly with OP and Tosha Daydreamer that here I am, posting. I play 4 hours a day, nearly every day. I’ve got 54% map completion on my 80 character, halfway through cooking and armorsmithing, and started 4 alts. I do not PvP at all, but enjoy PvE and dungeon diving with my guild, though I haven’t hit every dungeon.

I enjoyed the two ‘one-time’ events that I participated in, though being on Vent with the guild was critical to figuring out where to be. I eventually got the hang of fighting invisible enemies. I enjoyed that the zerg wiped and was forced to think about how to fight rolling enemies. I enjoyed that they’ve figured out how to make a fight interesting for a zerg, splitting it, making it do different things like we sometimes do individually for hearts on the normal map. I took off all my armor, so going down repeatedly wouldn’t break the bank (and wondered if that’s considered exploiting, lol). I earned over 10g, simply because they gave me a 20 slot box.

There were times during reinforcements that I got bored, sure. I’d just retreat and make a cup of cocoa. B/c that’s what you do in war, tour the front line, then have some R&R. I raised some eyebrows at the patch notes on the 15th, wondering if the devs play the same game I do (poor rangers and engies). But I also look at the 300g precursors and wonder if the rest of you play the same game I do.

TL;DR: I agree with OP and wonder how a reasonable player has gotten through all of the content that’s there.

Overwhelming Threat Issues

I first noticed this last night. The Champion Giant spawned in Nageling. Using only scepter autoattacks, he would chase me back and forth as I ran around buildings. 5-6 other champions attacked him at the same time, presumably using abilities.

I embrace the tank role, trying to mitigate damage to others, so I found it a good thing, but I had plenty of room to roam.
