Park a character in the appropriate level range (about 19-29 IIRC) at a jump puzzle chest and log in and open that chest every day. Silver doubloons will trickle in. Multiply this by as many characters as you care to or spend some time going from chest to chest.
Wait, so what? Do I have to park with a 19-29 character at a 19-29 area’s chest? Or is the character level irrelevant? I just tried picking the chest with a 65 lvl char in Snowden Drifts JP and i got sapphire crystal or something. I’m lost
I will bring some clarity to this …
Park a level 21-29 character at an Lion’s Arch JP and farm the chest every day at reset. You are guaranteed a gem or crest and if it is a rare, you can get a silver doubloon (sometimes a gold). I have three characters doing this every day. I also salvage the other stuff for Essence and mats. It’s a win/win. Level 19 and 20 characters does not work … they only gives copper doubloon from my testing.
The MF recipe has already been mentioned and it’s also very good. I have always come out ahead of my costs when I do this … i.e., it can make you money. I prefer the 3 pebble/1 lump version.
These are only rare for one reason … people don’t know how easy it is to make or set themselves up to farm them.
Are you sure it’s 21-29? I am almost certain it’s 26-34. I have a level 34 and a level 33 parked at a chest, and they have been getting silver doubloons for 2 days now. While I had my other alts at level 22 and 24 not getting anything but copper doubloons for a week now. Maybe it’s just a fluke but I just want to make sure, I am currently leveling the other 2 to level 26 to make sure.
You can jump over the waves only for the first 50% of his health, after 50% the waves are larger which means you have to roll through them. Also I noticed that it’s easier to jump ONTO the wave, rather than over it, to avoid damage, just as you said.
The reason a ton of people quit is this simple fact: In November before the huge Karka event, they nerfed the game so badly that Rare drop rates dropped atleast 65%. You went from getting 25-30 rare drops an hour to maybe 10 an hour if you’re lucky. It was perfect, each event on cursed shore would net you around 4-5 rares. After the nerf, you wouldn’t get one an event unless you were lucky. I know this for a fact and I am one of the ones that quit back then. At the time this impacted people who used MF and those who did not. From my standpoint, MF does not make a shred of difference, and actually I found that people who equip to do more DPS usually get more exotics to drop compared to MF users.
I only log in once every other week to make some money after letting TP stuff sit for a while. Have they fixed it? I haven’t even used an attack button in this game since the Super event, and it wasn’t since November before that event. I also remember when a lot of people quit back in October because of the precursor nerf in the mystic forge. They never announced these nerfs and they enjoy watching you struggle. 2g+ for 100 diamonds is more than ridiculous and most people thought it would drop after holidays. Arena net would never allow their profit to drop just because holidays were over.
If anyone used to use AOL back in the the old days, that simpsons quote was a very popular .wav used on windows sounds from what I remember. Going to friends houses that watched Simpsons had a 50/50 chance that they had that .wav.
I have also quit playing this game, for about a week now. I will not play until I hear that this drop rate bug is fixed. If it never does than so long. I am not wasting all my money on stuff that costs 3-5x more than in normally does.
Not only have the drop rates gone down for rares in the world, it is also harder to get a critical in the mystic forge. I used to grab piles of 64 items, throw them into the mystic forge and get around 3-5 crits on average. Now it seems like I will get 0-3 crits on average. This is why you see the prices of abyss dye so high right now, cause it’s very uncommon to even crit items let alone get 1 out of how ever many rare dyes there are. This is the same with many different types of items that you can upgrade in the forge.
I loved both Halloween and Cursed Shore events! Keep them coming Anet, I really enjoyed them! Thank you!
I don’t see how people who just started (via free trial) could have gotten a precursor to drop. Unless they start at level 75+ there’s no way they could have gotten to level 80 and gotten a precursor.
I ran the Event with all my characters, 3 are level 80s and 3 that are below 35. The level 35- characters all got 2 level 39 rares and 2 level 62 exotics and the ancient karka box. To me, it looks like people like to lie to stir up things for no reason….
BTW with my level 80 mesmer I got the colossus from the chest
This has happened to me twice now.. BOTH times I was on the third map and DC’d, thats a LOT of time wasted… If this keeps up, I won’t make it to scale level 3 for a while
So what should the people who have full exotic sets and a legendary do? It would be sad if more than 30% of the population was running around doing absolutely nothing. What you are saying is that this game should not progress at all and once everyone has a full exotic set, and their legendary, they should just quit the game. In which case, many many MANY people are pretty much done with this game, aside from a legendary, which is in no way the most important thing to most people who are maxed out with a full level 80 exotic set.
I will not give out any secrets as you know, it WILL affect my profit margins directly if I was to blurt something out about how I make money. It is not flipping, I can tell you that.
The way Anet ‘fixed’ the godskull ‘exploit’ was to nerf the overall drop rate of ALL methods of getting a precursor. They only reacted to the out cry of the masses. Most got their info from ‘word of mouth’ which is basically like a rumor mill and things get mixed up and misunderstood.
From the information I gathered, people used to get 8 precursors per 1000 rare weapons into the mystic forge. After the godskull ‘fix’ it went to 2 precursors per 1200 rare weapons into the mystic forge. These were tests before/after this fix withOUT the use of godskull rares. This was pointed out in various threads thru out this forum yet people still misunderstand the information in front of their faces.
Also, just because they say level 80 exotics gives the highest chance for precursors, does not mean that it has a more higher chance than using 4 level 78 exotics or 2 level 65 exotics + 2 level 80 exotics. They only say it has a higher chance because the outcome is always level 80 exotics. The percentage is always the same with any combination of exotics, as long as it produces a level 80 exotic.
If you farm Orr/nodes for money, you are doing something wrong… Orr is for karma only, there are plenty of ways to make money faster than farming. I can make around 30g in 2 hours, the pricing on precursors are very reasonable.
I also find it funny how people call the people who used godskulls to create precursors ‘exploiters’ when all they did was/is use the cheapest route to create level 80 exotics. Nothing was exploited and they never had a ‘higher’ chance of getting a precursor, it just saved money and/or made profit while trying for a precursor.
Putting 40 exotic level 80 Staffs into the Mystic Forge and guess what happened?

Yeah, in order for a good chance at making a precursor, you need a huge stack of w/e weapon it is. The rate in which these are coming in, it’ll take at least 2 weeks to gain enough weapons for a decent shot at a precursor….

So it’s the waiting game? I put a decent buy order in for something, it’s been over 12 hours, and i finally got 1… Unless daggers come in faster?
Just sent 115g~ into the mystic forge, level 80 rare greatswords. I would say close to 670 greatswords after all said and done. And nothing. I sold all the exotics and made about 30g off of them and bought more rare greatswords. That is close to 167 tries.
I want to hear an official response on the actual percentages of any given precursor, every other MMO has a site that gives actual percentages, I don’t see why this game should be any different.
Time to save up another 100g to throw away.
I just went thru the clock tower for maybe 2hrs with my Norn/necro… I got to the end 5 times and he just WILL NOT go thru the crack at the end…. I am done.. I made it twice with my human/elementalist and he did the last jump with ease.. Ridiculous.
Level 80s, Haunted Door Campings, Lower-level farming, and problems with level scaling
Posted by: namastex.8906
I would be all for higher level doors, I noticed that fighting lower level mobs from those doors don’t give as great of loot as higher level mobs. It would be awesome to farm the haunted doors in Cursed shore, as most people are standing around waiting for plinx/tunnel to start anyways.
I don’t think they are full of crap, my guild leader bought 200 keys worth of diamonds, he then bought about 100 keys, and decided to sell the other 100 keys worth of diamonds for gold instead and bought the skin he wanted off the market.. out of 100 he didn’t get any halloween items.. I used 2 that I got from my low level characters and said to hell with it. After stories like that I will just buy it off the TP
Ok, I have seen 2 different variations of crafting the weapons and/or gifts. The weapon recipe consists of using w/e + 100 lodestones + gift of (spider, moon etc) and I have also seen recipes to craft the gifts themselves also needing 100 lodestones… does this make sense? I doubt you need 200 lodestones for one weapon, thus meaning some info is wrong. I have yet to see a confirming picture showing off what you need to craft the actual weapons nor the gifts, just the gift recipes from the mystic forge.
Yeah I know it was stupid, but all in all, it was pointless for me to have a dusk at this point in time anyways. And with all that money, and no dusk, it would be pointless to have all that money, get my drift?
If I really want to make a legendary, it will come, I’m not forcing it, but that doesn’t mean I will force myself to stick around and wait for it to happen either. I was planning on playing a long long time, was looking into buying new content if it appeared.. but now.. with first hand witness to how hard it is to recreate a specific weapon.. I am starting to wonder if it will be worth the time/effort.
I am starting to wonder if DR does affect the mystic forge. I know the mods said you cannot receive DR from mystic forge, but what if you got DR prior to using the mystic forge, which in my case is what happened.
I had just finished farming cursed shore events for karma and hit DR, and realized my dusk sold. I than ran to Lions Arch to perform my own exotic experiments. I did notice that I received a ton of exotics in a row, such as, the cleric’s pearl great sword, which I thought was unusual. I would say I went a stretch of getting 6 of those in a row.
Yeah it’s brutal, not sure how long I will keep playing. I only risked it because I was far far away from making a legendary anyways, and if i made another dusk/dawn with any profit I would have been leaps ahead of where I was. When I sold it I was completely broke. Now I’m back to where I was but without a dusk haha… RNG or rigged? You would think 200 exotics would give you the sword.
Two weeks ago I got a dusk with using about 40 rares into the mystic forge. Today I decided to sell it for 360 g which left me with 320g. I tried over 200 exotics and did not receive another dusk/dawn. 320g down the drain. Well played arena net, well played.
